Tenzan

Please avoid the rock shrimp at this place by all means. The shrimp was pink color and looked like it was dyed or something. The sushi was not authentic. There are definitely other better sushi place in the neighborhood.

I first went to Tenzan the same night I moved to NYC. I thought the sushi was delicious, even though I had expected worse for the price (Just being honest). First, let's start with the customer service. Even at its most hectic time, I don't ever have to wait very long for a table. The waitresses, esp. Sonya and Shelly, are divine. We are on a first name basis now, because they were so friendly and polite I couldn't help but get to know them. Even if it is your first time, they will be very accommodating to you. Second, presentation. Have you ever been to a restaurant that had good food but the place looked dirty and you just wondered who exactly made your food? Well, Tenzan is exceptionally clean. I never have to worry about hygiene, and I know that the tables and booths have been wiped and cleaned. The decor is very nice, and they always have such pretty flowers. Best thing is, its a casual restaurant (I go there in my sweats when I am desperate), but you wouldn't feel out of place if you happened to be wearing a really nice outfit. Bathrooms! So clean you can sit on them (I don't, but you could). Smell so nice and again, nice decor. Perks: Warm handtowel before you eat, this is seriously something I have become used to. If I go to a restaurant and there isnt a warm towel, I automatically frown for a second. Sushi: YUMMY! Presentation, wonderful. The rolls are really tight and hearty. The nigiri pieces are humongous. They always had a little flair to your plate (Designs, etc). Once, they messed up my order and the chefs wrote "Sorry [my name]" in spicy sauce. Cute! Anyways, I highly highly recommend the Spicy Girl Roll and the Special Dragon.

I could ramble on forever about this place, because it's just that good.

LOVE SUSHI LOVE TENZAN.... this place are awesome with fresh sushi fish and great rolls too. i will never want to try other place ever after i found tenzan. now they even have new location at 2ave 52 street. The service and the environment are wonderful too. try it and you will know.......

Even on a Saturday night on the upper east side, the service was attentive, friendly, and timely. With a sushi joint on virtually every corner, Tenzan stands out with superbly crafted maki--what's meant to be cold is cold, and what's intended to be served warm is warm (e.g., the sweet potato roll with pineapple sauce). The peanut-avocado roll was delicate, not super-chunky like at some restaurants, and the asparagus in the AAC roll was extraordinary. (Where do they get their produce?!) The age tofu appetizer was fried to perfection: large chunks of light tofu in a delicate rice flour crust, with only a hint of oil, not greasy at all; and a delicious dipping broth. The vegetable gyoza were light and flavorful, really melting in our mouths. At the end, the check was very manageable. We had a fantastic meal at a very reasonable price. Highly recommended!

I went the other day with some work folks and it was so good. Everything was fresh and the waiter recomended some sushi rolls that I had nvere had before and they were awesome. She even recomended a desert and brought us some great Sake. They really made it easy and we will certainly be returning to this spot!
