4 Stars: Takami is the #1 sushi spot in downtown LA (by Matt S.)

Takami is a really nice restuarant in Downtown LA. Its on the 21st floor of a building and offers a great view of the city. The food here is pretty good but could be better. Definitely not worth it for the price though. The Chicken Teriyaki was rather small. I basically paid $20 for one piece of chicken. The spicy tuna on crisyp rice was small as well and the california rolls werent that tasty. I enjoyed myself nonetheless and had a great time. The one thing I did like was the Sake.
If Takami lowered their prices and/or increased the food portions, It would be a whole lot better!

4 Stars: Try at Least Once (by reviewandbereviewed)

My girlfriend took me out to Takami for a nice occasion for a dinner. It is a very nice place with a very cool ambience. If you sit by the window you can oversee alittle bit of LA, but mostly the financial district buildings of downtown. So if you come there with a date, I would def recommend sitting on the outside patio by the window, very cool vibe. Nice decor, some music playing in the background, very hip place.

As far as food, a few dishes we tried were delicious. Spicy Tuna on crisply rice is a great appetizer, very tasty. Also we got, penthouse roll - very good, and I got Grilled Salmon in teriyaki sauce - it was melting in my mouth, great dish. And miso soup and edamame, same as everywhere. Some people were saying their portions are small, but I would have to disagree. Their sushi rolls are about 8 pieces, and appetizer and entree very good sized portions. I had Takami 10 coctails, very tasty and on the strong side.

Price was not bad either, its pricey but not on the very expensive side. Our bill for the above order came out to 80 bucks before tip, which is not bad at all, and we were full. So if you come here to enjoy a nice light (meaning not stuffing yourself out) dinner, it will not cost you an arm and a leg.

Service was very good as well, waitress was fast and very attentive. Elevate lounge next door is nothing special, just your basic hollywood type lounge, with dj spinning top 40 (which I dont care for too much). Hostess at Takami was kinda bitchy as far as getting us to the Elevate, she kept saying shes waiting for a club manager to come out and give us tickets, which never happened, i think she was just bs'ing. But my GF worked her around that by asking a security guy at the club while i was in the restroom. Very good maneuvre by her. So anyways, I would def recommend Takami Sushi, for nice dinner and to enjoy the vibe and atmosphere. Worth the visit at least once

5 Stars: You MUST go and see for yourself! (by HelenwithanE)

Lunch or dinner Takami is the place to be if you?re downtown Los Angeles. With multiple kitchens providing traditional Japanese dishes to Sushi to the Robata Bar there is something for everyone in your party. Do you have someone at your table that just can?t get the idea of raw fish past their nose? Try the Robata Bar! The baby lamb chops are out of this world. A skewer of Chilean Sea Bass is cooked to buttery perfection.

Sushi lover? In addition to tradition sushi rolls Takami has some of the best signature rolls in town! The Takami Roll is probably my favorite with Spicy Tuna, Snow Crab, Asparagus and Albacore drizzled with Apple Ponzu Sauce. The Sashimi is always fresh and sliced in healthy size pieces. Don?t forget the Spicy Tuna on Crispy Rice or the Tropical Avocado Bowl. Yum!

The servers and managers go out of their way to complete the experience. You can sit and never be rushed out of your table or you can let them know you are limited for time and every effort is made to accommodate your schedule.

Nice folks! Great Food! Beautiful restaurant!
It?s a great experience and a fun place to take out-of-towners too.
Enjoy!

4 Stars: SKY HIGH AT LA's TAKAMI SUSHI (by MDC1)

I must give a round of applause to Takami Sushi! I love this place and frequent it often. I travel alot and find this place to be one of my favorite roof top restaurants in the world mainly because of the awesome food, setting, and awesome General Manager who is always making sure we are enjoying ourselves.

Whats better than a 21st Floor Sushi Spot during an LA Sunset. Wicked!!

Sure some things aren't perfect, but nothing is. Tell the management if something isn't up to your standards and I am sure they will work to make it better.

I would highly recommend Takami Sushi over any spot I have been in LA for the food, energy, and setting.

The night club next door rocks on a Friday and Saturday night too.

I hope to see you there.

3 Stars: great place (by luncher)

This is one of our favorite restaurants - a quick lunch or a long lunch, can be had. The food is always fresh and good, service is always attentive and accomodating.

We go there for many business lunches because it is always reliable for good food and service. It is filled with people, yet quiet enough to have a conversation without shouting.

They have a great variety of cooked and raw dishes, so everyone can enjoy something.

The "long lunch" crowd can enjoy some interesting wines and Sakis sitting and staring at the great view of Los Angeles (on a clear day). On a warm enough day, the patio is a fine place to dine and enjoy the sunshine.

1 Stars: What a mess (by hoot1981)

I have no idea where these people are coming up with the positive reviews. This place was a joke. I live in NY, and I was really looking forward to a birthday dinner there on Saturday. Instead of seating us at a table, they sat us in the lounge. We had a table of 16, and only one server. At one point our table hadn't been bussed and our friendstarted serving people. Not to mention the lighting was so bright. So much for ambiance.

The food was decent, but the service was such a sh*t show, I found it hard to focus on the food.

I don't recommend it at all! What a waste of money.

Love the way the restaurant is set up. It was very busy we were seated promptly. We had made reservations. Their flavor sake is really good. I would compare the food to Sushi Roku. Overall I had a good experience dining here. I would def. go back.

4 Stars: A memorable experience !!! (by joshcranford)

I had read a variety of reviews on this restaurant (pro and con) before deciding this week to have dinner there prior to a Staples concert.... Based upon some of the negative reviews I almost avoided Takami...I'm sure glad we didn't! Our party of four tried a little of everything (robata, seared yellowtail with diced chiles, duck breast, tropical avocado bowl, spicy tuna on crispy rice, 21st roll, etc.)... it is obvious that a lot of thought went into the creation of the menu/dishes, as well as the artful presentation. Everything we tried was memorable, including the manager checking in with us to make sure we were happy with our meal and service. Although in may not be the very best sushi you've ever had, overall the amazing view of the LA skyline and the exceptional service we experienced insures that we will be back!

5 Stars: Best of Sushi...Highest Award!! (by SushiWorldTravelor)

INCREDIBLE RESTAURANT! Very pleasing to the senses! We have traveled the world in search of "Best of Sushi" We have all come to the UNANIMOUS decision that the west coast has a new Winner! Takami transcends the discriminate to a whole new platform. Takami is tasting sushi- the way sushi should be Experienced. The mouth-watering Filet Fois Gras...the Lemony Lemon-Albacore...the Blissful Japanese Taco...Who knew we were going to have our senses "Elevated". Please do not go to this restaurant unless you are open to a new experience. The management has done a wonderful job at carving out a top notch staff. The staff really know how to make your experience the "Best of Sushi" . The Decor to be envied...the open air restaurant takes your breath away with every bite...and the sushi...No one on the west coast does better than mr. yamada! The chef came to our table to tell us about his newly created specials, and asked us what we thought. We were astounded by the price! Alot of mouth-pleasing sushi for a really low price. If you can't make it to Japan to taste sushi...Takami is the next best experience! And yes, the chefs are really Japanese! Say hello to manager Frank, bartender Sasanna, and server Emily when you're there. Again, this is Tony James from Sacramento's SushiWorldTravelor writing another experience-tested review. Look for our next review about Manhattan Beach's "Sashi Sushi" coming soon!

5 Stars: Great food and great view!!!!!!!! (by joej76)

Went to Takami for the first time last week and it was their anniversary. I can't believe I just heard about this place. It's at the top of a high rise in downtown with awesome views and good food. It's about the same price as most sushi places (about $40/person). I am going back for sure.

4 Stars: Best atmoshere in LA and great sushi (by SteveLim)

I just stumbled into this place in an awkward office building in Downtown. Once we got up there and the world changed. Felt like we were blasted to New York. We have been back 3 times in the last month. The food, service, and people are great. The prices are a little more than the Kabuki's out there, but the food is not comparable. Now, we can't go back to our usual sushi spot since we crave Takami's edamame, crisy rice, and lemony roll. I would recommend the place and at least the items we are adicted to. Enjoy...

2 Stars: ok food, staff needs to be replaced asap.... (by 272727)

food is ok for a sushi place...that being said, the hostesses are RUDE, NOT GRACIOUS, NOT WELCOMING. (unless maybe u look like someone who can get them fired bc ur so important) anyway once u get in they won't say hi to u the way a normal restaurant will, those snobby (i dont know what they're so snobby about? theyre working as hotesses and wearing outfits from forever21...no offense, i wear it too but i dont act like a snobby princess if im in customer service) girls just stand there and look u up and down til u say ud like to be seated. If you go for happy hour, try to sit at the bar, the bartenders are so much nicer than the other staff. I'd say one of the female servers is polite, and the male servers that bring the food out of the kitchen all look stoned (and not in the fun way....in the I HATE THIS PLACE AND I DONT WANT TO BE HERE way) otherwise it's not worth it to eat in the "lounge" for happy hour, it's not comfortable, it's mostly for "socializing" and u dont get to sit at a table like a normal human being to eat...i know its part of the ambience, and yes u are paying 4 dollars instead of 8 dollars for ok sushi, but i still say if u want to sit at a table and its available, u should be able to! p.s. i think i got the same unattractive, "big" hostess, i only write this bc she was wearing a very not classy, short, very revealing dress that looked more appropriate for a cheap club, and not an upscale restaurant.
I'd only go back if I wasn't paying. Otherwise, I prefer Kabuki for cheap happy hour sushi :D

2 Stars: Arrogant unattractive hostesses, need customer service class, long wait for empty outside seating area, great food but not worth the horrible service (by bellamusa)

This is the first bad review I've ever written, how sad that it had to be about a place that could be "elevated" to a higher standard. We had no reservation but figured on a Thursday at 7pm we'd be fine. We waited half an hour for this horrble tiny table in the way of traffic. The oversized hostess should have realized there is no way anyone would eat there comfortable. I am not trying to be mean or ill tempered but they are so under my expectations that I just cannot hold back. The food was delicious but have they not heard that it is a faux pau to allow your client to wait 15-20 minutes between appetizer meals to be served? Service was slow, servers kept serving our orders to the couple next to us. Would not go back. It really is a shame considering the food was wonderful. Another suggestion: you're on the 21st floors in the evning and you don't pull your blinds up? Nothing but stupidity can justify that.

4 Stars: Nice place to take new people (by clubwriter)

the place is well done, may be some people call it old fashion but to me it was nice decoration, food is good but expensive, don't get me wrong I do pay for good food but here you don't get for what you pay. the biggest trun off for this place would be the Hostess, and she is the only reason I won't back there any more. She didn't greet any guest, slightly rude and even with reservation we had to wait for 45:00 to be seated, what's the point to get reservation if you have to wait any way. the other problem would be outside sitting, the way that setting is you don't get that much of view that you are expecting. but in general I recommend to experince this place, it's well done

5 Stars: Must see and experience (by WillieWill)

We just went in tonight and took a very important client out for dinner at Takami. I very rarely feel the need to write a review, but our experience was truely 5 stars. The associates in our office have been raving about Takami and tonight I found out why. The staff impressed my client, the view is amazing, and the atmoshere is great (keep in mind downtown was dead at 6pm and now it rocks as hard as West LA at 10pm). This place is a must see!

4 Stars: Great Sushi (by JennyMMMM)

I went there last night with a three of my girlfriends and we had a wonderful experience. We had a reservation at 8 and were seated by 8:15. Our server was very helpful, the food was so tasty and original. My favorites were the 21st roll and the Lemon-albacore roll. The martinis were great too, I loved the rose water martini
We were planning on just having dinner but since we had such a great time we decided to go to Elevate, which is a lounge on the other side of the 21st floor.

1 Stars: NENENENEVER AGAIN (by YummieInMyTummie)

I went here for my birthday & the sushi is definitely not great. The decor is so old fashioned and old looking even though this place is new and u can barely see that much of the view when ur sitting cuz of the balcony type of thing blocking it. The chicken tastes like something my mom could make at home definitely nothing gourmet about it. The teriyaki sauce was salty & not sweet. I asked for light butter on the garlic edamame which was so salty our tongues were burning and we couldn?t even eat it anymore so we just left it so that was a waste. If u ask them for it I would just say NO salt at all. Everything was so salty I feel like i have high blo od pressure. I wanted to go here for my birthday because I thought what better than a sushi restaurant with a great view but now I regret it. Don?t go here for a special occasion. The sushi was very average. Overall I have nothing to rave about and I am definitely not going here again. Katana and Koi are on a whole other level/dimension/everything than this place. Oh, we got the garden salad with the onion dressing, let me tell u they were not kidding about the onions all it is is onions pureed in a food processor that they pour over your food. My friend and I had that aftertaste until the next day. When we ordered a drink at our table and the waitress brought it it tasted a billion times less strong than the one we got at the bar and we didn?t wanna be one of those rude people that act like its too light or something but it really tasted like sparkling water and cranberry instead of vodka and cranberry, we told her and she took the same glass and poured more of a ?well? vodka drink even though we specifically told her grey goose in the first place. I regret going here for my birthday the food is overpriced for what they give just 2 people hardly ordering much food became 90 bucks, I'd much rather go to koi and spend 150 on a great meal and a great ambiance. This place sucked. Read my review for Elevate Lounge too.

1 Stars: Another Wanna Be Trendy Mediocre Sushi Spot (by iknowgrub)

I decided to check this place out before going next door to "Elevate" to get some drinks, and was very disappointed with the food. The view was great but the sushi quality was average. Presentation was ok ( but what's the point of presentation when the food is horrible), and the price definitely not worth it.
Like I always say, I don't mind paying $$$$ for good food. But when I am charged a grip for mediocre food, that pi#&es me off.

5 Stars: Very Good Valentine's (by EFischer34)

So I read the reviews about both places and saw very good and some bad reviews... My friends had all had very positive experiences at Takami (and Elevate next door). I made reservations for Valentine's and went in hoping that everything would go well since it was a busy night. All I have to say is that the experience was great!!!!!!!!!! Our server was a girl named Sara and she was amazing. The food was also very very good and they had some nice Valentine's specials. One thing I really liked was the fact that the menu was not pre-set (I hate having to eat from pre-set menus on busy days). They also gave my wife a red rose (thank God I had already given her flowers earlier) and us both some heart-shaped chocolates and chocolate covered strawberries!!! I also made separate reservations for Elevate and was able to go in with no issues (most people said they had issues, but didn't realize you should make reservations for both places). Overall, it was a great experience. I will definitely go back again!

4 Stars: Closest thing to being in Manhattan (by TomRicharson)

My co-workers and I tried this place for the first time last week for dineLA and we really enjoyed the food and service. The lunch was reasonably priced at $22, but when we went back this week, the lunch cost us about $31 each. We did order more food, but I think this much for lunch is definitely going to be reserved for days we can charge the lunch in or take a client out. It is a great lunch spot (we saw the LAPD Chief there talking business) and the view is great. It is Closest thing to being Manhattan. I would give it 5 stars if I could afford the $31 lunch on my dime.

2 Stars: Takami is Not so Great...Elevate is Not Worth it (by nothingbuthetruth)

I've always wanted to check out Takami & Elevate since it opened last year, but was hesitant due to the reviews. It took Dine LA Week for my bf and I to make dinner reservations @ Takami since we can try it without having to break the bank on a poor experience. The hostess was not welcoming at check-in & since we were early for our reservation they asked us to wait at the lounge for 10 mins. Instead we decided to go to the bar. The bartenders were AWESOME, the drinks were rather expensive, but very good! Since we already checked-in and was asked to wait, I thought the hostess was going to notify us that our table was ready. However, it took my bf to go to the hostess desk to ask, which they said we'd be seated once we closed out our tab at the bar, STRANGE. So we did and were seated on the outside patio. Since we did the Dine LA reservation we had to order from a shorter Takami menu. For the main course we ordered the sushi platter (not spectacular) and sea bass (tasty!). We also ordered the crunch roll, but somehow that was forgotten & not charged for it. For dessert , the chocolate cake could've warmer, and the creme brulee was yummy. We definitely enjoyed our dinner & the beautiful view of LA. During our meal the manager asked us how everything was & we said it was great. However, not soon after did I notice he went to other tables and asked if they were going to Elevate & gave them some kind of ticket. My guess is the ticket was so they didn't have to stand in line or pay for cover. After dinner we wanted to check out Elevate under the impression that if we had dinner at Takami we could get into Elevate...WRONG. The Bouncer and Hostess both said it's up to the Manager & that you can talk to him to see if he'll let you in otherwise you have to pay a $20 cover, it was only 9:45pm. I said forget it, we already spent well over $100 for dinner & drinks, if their standard is $1000+ like another review said, then they won't have my business or my family & friends.

2 Stars: Great view but Bad service!!! (by like2smile)

I totally agreed with the last two reviews...I've been meaning to write this review for some time but didn't get around to it till now. The ambience and the view is beautiful but it was ruined by the bad service we received by the Hostess mainly. I went there 3 times and everytime I went there is this 1 asian hostess who is just not friendly nor helpful. The first time we went here we had resevation but that hostess did not welcome us and then made us wait for like 1/2 an hr then asked if it's ok to seat us outside..we said no because it's cold and we preferred to be seated inside so she said you have to wait then (with an attitude too). So we waited and she still sat us outside!!!! Food was ok, our server wasn't great either, we asked if we will be able to walk over to the lounge after dinner and he directed us back to that hostess. We went to her and she did not acknowledge us so we waited and then the manager came by and helped us. I don't understand why any establishment would hire a hostess who is not warm, friendly, and welcoming...she could have at least gave us a fake smile. Same girl, same attitude, same service the next 2 times I went there. The bartenders were very nice though. I will never go back there unless they find a better hostess and provide better service. I do recommend the Elevate Lounge next door .

4 Stars: Very nice (by tmfuller)

So the negative reviews for this restaurant gave me pause before I went there. But all I can say is that the individuals that have negative experiences at this restaurant clearly experience the exception and not the rule. If you go on a week day night when it is not completely packed the service is fine, the food is good (and not overly expensive) and the view is fantastic. It is a great place to have a nice dinner with friends or significant other.

1 Stars: THE WORST SERVICE IN LOS ANGELES - KEEP AWAY (by joke2me)

They sat us an hour late and the hostess gave us an attitude. They have three kitchens, so the food does not come out in the right sequence. I asked two people to clear a few plates, and they states that they have ?other? people that do that. The restaurant manager needs to be fired! The only saving grace was the bar staff. There are plenty of other better choices. I have given them two chances and both experiences have been terrible. KEEP AWAY.

In all fairness, the food is OK. Ok at best. If you want trendy sushi and Robata go to KATANA!!!!! These people don't know right from left!! There are so many things wrong here, I don't have enough space to list. In a nut shell, this place is FAR from a well oiled machine. Management should take notice and fix it. The food is ok, but I do believe this place has the WORST service in ALL LOS ANGELES!!!!

Went to Takami last night and had an amazing time. We started with the Happy Hour and slowly progressed to having dinner in the same place (had reservations at Morton's). There was an amazing energy in the restaurant. We finished up dinner and were leaving (at about 10pm) and we saw Elevate was open. Walked into Elevate and it was crowded too! Stayed and had a drink there as well. They turned just another evening into a great experience!

The ambience is good, the service is great! The food is ok, and the parking is awful! Yes, we know it?s expensive to park in downtown. At least give the customer a direction where to park instead of letting people driving around? Is it a sushi restaurant? The fish tasted like it has been put there for a loooooong time. There are many things the owner should do. First of all, define the theme for the restaurant!

4 Stars: Some Good Some Bad (by chudjr)

The restaurant is very trendy, great views, nice lounge. I think the reason there are so many mixed reviews is that some of the food is good, some of it is not. The robata steak had good flavor, but was very tough. I would not recommend it unless you really like chewing on stuff for a long time. The sushi was not that great. The chilean seabass was good and the lobster dynamite was very good, but the serving was small for a $25 lunch entree. I agree with the comments that is it expensive for what you get.

The service was excellent. Very attentive.

1 Stars: STAY AWAY!!!!!!! Read this if your slightly thinking about going... (by stevie6456)

Poor Service! Rude waitress and an even ruder manager!

We originally wanted to go to the club next door, Elevate. Since Elevate opens at 9pm and we were there around 8:45pm, instead of standing in line we decided to go to up to Takami and have a few drinks. Once, we got up there the hostess told us that she can get us in without standing in line if we sit down for dinner. WOW, what a horrible mistake that was! Not only did we wait for 15 minutes until our waitress came to get our drink order, we waited another 15 mins to put our order down, and another 10 minutes until our ONE sushi roll came out!!! At that point, we decided to get our check and leave! But, not without exchanging some words with the manager. After waiting for 10 minutes to speak to to so-called manager, I explained to him our horrible experience. We asked him if its possible to forget everything and just go to Elevate without standing in line, he took one look at our bill, which was $35.70 and said " Come on guys, I have tables here that have at least $2000-$3000 on their tab, you guys don't even have $100 per person... sorry I cant do anything." Shocked and amazed at the situation we left without leaving a single cent for tip, and sneaked our way into the club!
Two days later, I looked at my debit account and saw an extra $7.00 charge... hmm.. I wonder if that was the tip I NEVER LEFT! I called my bank and called the manager at Takami... got my $7.00 back and told him I will tell every single soul I know and don't know to NEVER come to your restaurant again!
Hence, the moral of this story is.... NEVER GO TO THIS RESTAURANT!!!! and tell everyone you know! Oh, and if you do go... check your credit card statement, who knows, they might weasel you out of a couple bucks!

5 Stars: Delicious, high-end sushi! (by agalstia)

The trendy decor, exceptional sushi, and superior service all made the night enjoyable for us at Takami. We went on a week night so it wasn't too crowded, but it seemed to have a loyal clientele of people who had eaten there before. The hip environment was fun, but not snobby or uncomfortable. The food was of excellent quality, and the staff did a very good job at explaining the menu items. I highly recommend Takami if you want to have a night out full of good sushi, a hip atmosphere, and good service.

2 Stars: I don't get the hype. If you think this place is good, please eat out more. (by pchop)

Are you kidding me?! I cannot understand all the hype of this place. The food was mediocre at best and so is the service. I'm vexed when the wait staff needs to check with the manager over questions such as "may I have some spicy mayo on the side". If you think this place's sushi is fantastic, I highly urge you to eat out more. These guys are neither trendy nor good enough to be arrogant and expect to survive, especially with the ever demanding chic downtown crowd...which explains why the crowd is more 808 instead of 310 or 213 (Bridge & Tunnel if you are from NY). Please also check your bills (and credit card statements), since they have a tendency of "accidentally" double billing customers....hmmm.

The only plus: a nice view and ambience...unfortunately I can only say "what a waste!"

3 Stars: Just OK (by kharm11)

My overall rating of this place is just OK. What you are really paying for here is the ambiance, which was great just wish the sushi was the same. We made reservations for a party of 6 for my sister's bday. Our group wasnt all there so we sat the bar to have a drink. We all ordered martinis Yuzo-Berry, Mixed Berry, and White Lotus. I'd have to say mine was the tastiest of the bunch (peach vodka, juice, and strawberries) the others were bland as far as flavor. But when I ordered a 2nd one it was bland and not as flavorful.

I have to admit the place was really nice and the view was cool & the crowd was older business class. I think we were the youngest ones there that night (20 somethings). We all ordered rolls and sashimi, and miso. Miso was ok, but its just miso so nothing really to dazzle me with there. Our food came out one by one and in small portions which is to be expected in these places. The salmon sashimi was the only thing that impressed me, it melted like butter in my mouth. That could have had a lot to do with the fact that I was starving and drunk by the time it arrived. Our waitress was attentive and made sure our drinks were refilled and our order came out ok. They brought out a small cake and ice cream for my sister with a candle. I didnt experience any bad or rude service either. I gave this place 3 stars; one for ambiance, one for good service, and one for ok food.

I wouldnt go back to have dinner there. Next time I'll just have a drink and enjoy the view.

I was a little afraid after reading some comments, but our experience was great. We actually asked about the price of toro before ordering and our waiter said it was $18 or the sushi and $40 for the sashimi. We ordered it anyway and it was really good. Also, the japanese jacos, albacore sashimi, and calamari were fabulous!. I highly reccomend it. The views are stunning, service is good, and food is great.

5 Stars: Great sushi and amazing view (by misskathyj)

The view and space is amazing! My girlfriends and I hung out in the restaurant bar area and we were able to keep an eye out on the Standard. My had dinner and the sushi was really good. The prices for the regular sushi are good $5-$6 for two pieces, but some of the specialty dishes are more expensive. We knew it would be pricey... Sushi always is! We had dinner and headed over to the lounge, but it was not very crowded. Jumped over to the Standard and partied there for a while. We came back and Elevate was packed! We got back in (with some delays), but the crowd was great! I recommend it at least once!!!

5 Stars: AWESOME!!! (by jason1976)

I live in Downtown and have been going to Katana to get my fix. This place is great. My friends and I hang out during the week for happy hour and also have dinner there. The food and service are really good. The must haves are: the sweet scallop present, spicy albacore, and crispy rice. The prices for those that are used to Katana are lower. Downtown really needed a place like this. We also head over to the lounge afterwards and there is a great crowd there on Fridays and Saturdays.

4 Stars: food was great, ambience was spectacular! (by akira101)

my girlfriend and i had dinner here for her birthday. sorry, no birthday treats available :(

at anryate, the food was pretty good. a little pricey but what can you do, you're in a sushi restaurant 21 stories from the ground.

however, the decor and style of the restaurant (and lounge) are top notch. views of the city are incredible as well.

Come for the decor, atmosphere and view. Drinks were good too. As for food, again a little pricey, but DEFINITELY worth the trip!

1 Stars: Unfortunately AWFUL (by tbfreak)

Spicy Tuna roll came out like it was rolled by a 2 year old. I was dining with 4 people and all of our entrees came out at a different time, when we asked the waiter about it, he said that it was family style dining.. He never mentioned that when we ordered, then he said that everything comes from different kitchens, yet 3 of the 4 entrees we ordered were from the main menu... Then we did receive our food it was awful.. Duck- tough, the chilean seabass - over cooked, lamb chops - overcooked the size of lollipops .. Truly awful. I really wanted this place to be good. I will say it's gorgeous.. go for a drink, but don't waste your money on the food!

4 Stars: Great addition to Downtown (by trojanchic)

Not sure where the first reviewer eats but for someone who dines at restaurants such as Koi and Katana, this is not only more affordable but much less pretentious (not to mention its Downtown where I work/live). The atmosphere is great, the lounge leaves a little to be desired (the DJ on both nights I went was pretty lame but I?m not big on Rave music). The food on the other hand was magnificent! Creative and tasty! I've had a taste of the Chilean Sea Bass, Dungeness Crab, Lobster Dynamite, Popcorn Shrimp and a few other items I cant remember (went with a large group both times) and none disappointed!

For those that are a somewhat price conscious, skip the Robata, I got the Chilean Sea Bass Robata and it was literally the size of ONE toothpick for $10. When I went back again I got the Chilean Sea Bass Entree which was about 4 times as much fish for $20. It was a no-brainer for me. I will definitely be going back again!

1 Stars: You have got to be kidding! (by emvel)

Overpriced and not very good. Refer to the LATimes review. $56 for one order of toro is a rip off. I understand that there is a premium for the view but the premium should not be charged on one item. If you must go because you want to be a hipster, go for the drinks and view but skip the food. There are many great sushi restaurants in Los Angeles that are terrific and a fair value.

5 Stars: This place is AWESOME! (by cristinaz)

Went with several co-workers for dinner. All the staff was so nice - - our waiter Lucas was so attentive and made the BEST food and drink recommendations. All the food we had was absolutely delicious. In addition to the spectacular food, the views of the downtown skyline are breathtaking. The place is so hip my friend said she felt like she was on an episode of Se_ and the City. After dinner we went into the adjacent lounge. WOW! Talk about Cool! This is by far one of the best places in downtown right now. I will definitely be back.
