Hot & Tasty Cafe and Bakery

I wrote a review not too long ago, but it somehow was deleted from this website. Basically, the cake I had last month was very nicely decorated, but once it was served, it tasted horrible.

I've had cakes that were good and cakes that were not so great, but I've never had a cake that tasted so bad I had to investigate it further.

Decided to look up this company - how do they get business?

Looks like some reviewers actually like their cakes, but noone at the function I was at had anything good to say about the taste.

One thing I must say though, is that the cake was gorgeous. I would have someone else make the cake, and then have Hot and Tasty decorate it - the cakes are that pretty.

We have hired "Hot and Tasty" to create cakes for our wedding, our son's confirmation, and my husband's Birthday. Each time the cakes have been unique, beautiful, and perfect for the occasion. The best cake they made for us was the tiramisu. My husband is from Italy and I have lived there. I can confirm that Hot and Tasty's tiramisu is the best I have ever tasted. They even made it in a large glass bowl and decorated the outside of the bowl with whip cream and almonds so it looked like a normal Birthday cake from the outside (a very creative idea). They are a wonderful Pompano Beach secret, but I expect that soon they will become very busy because of their wonderful talents and great prices.

I have had a zuppa inglese with you guys before. But insider pages does not let me review for each occasion I go there.
So I erased my other review and I am posting my newest one.

Thank you for the graduation hat cake I had on May 25th.
I loved all the little details on it. You guys took it to the heart.

The toasted coconut filling was very good and the cake was moist and light like I expected. We are not fond of the buttercream, and with the fondant, it tasted just right.
The top tier in bavarian cream and strawberries was just delicious. I liked that cake better than the other one. I just wished I had done a third tier because the cake ran out really fast. I guess I miscalculated how many guests would attend the graduation party.

Price was reasonable - it came out to about $6/person with tax and delivery. Most other places charge at least $8 a piece. We went to We Take the Cake for a consultation and thought the $12 dollars were a bit too much.

CONS: I just wished we had moist the cake with champagne as the Chef suggested it. It would've made a huge difference, we believe.

Overal it was a great experience. And, I will be back again for my son's birthday party in august.

YUCK! - I can't believe the good reviews about this bakery! To make a very long story short, I ordered a red velvet cake from them. It tasted like (to quote the guests) "wheat bread" and "play-dough". It wasn't even sweet. The cake was also very heavy, dry and dense - not light, moist, and fluffy like you would expect.
I thought there must have been a kitchen mistake so I called the bakery to tell them my experience. I was told that the cake batter was also used for cupcakes they made, and that they tasted "fine". They did, however, offer to make us a smaller cake free of charge for our family to enjoy. I took them up on the offer, and asked for a lemon cake this time, since the next person we will be ordering for loves lemon cake. The filling was great, but the cake was horrible again! This time it was very crumbly - as if millions of pieces of crumbs were pressed together to make the cake. I was disappointed, but decided that the bakery must not be a good match for our circle of people.

That was when I received an email from the chef's wife, telling me that her cakes aren't like Publix and Walmart cakes - and in many ways implying that I have cheap taste. I was very insulted, as I am a regular purchaser of cakes from gourmet establishments. Even if I had not been - it was very rude indeed! She went on to describe her cakes, and finally said that they were "HEALTHY, LOW-SUGAR" cakes. That explained a lot. I wish I had been told that the cakes were made this way -- it seems like a very important piece of information to give someone who is planning to order.

I would also like to thank the bakery for the professional response to my review. Finally, after more than 15 responses from the bakery, this one makes sense. The previous response they left for me here was this (I copied and saved it because it was so unbelievable):

I am so happy with my cake.
I ordered a fondant cake 3 tiers sea shell and it turned out better than I expected.
They made the shells with sugar and handpainted them in pearl and pink and it turned out glorious! Great pictures!
The cake was incredibly DELICIOUS!
My husband (who doesn't like cake very much) ate three slices!

I forgot to mention, I had a cake consultation and a week later a cake tasting. I worked with Nicole on a drawing of my cake and saw many pictures on their portfolio and computer. We came up with a design of my own and I put down my 50% deposit.
I was very satisfied with my cake and my catering. My flowers and my entertainment at my wedding had a few glitches. But the cake was exactly like I envisioned.
My wedding was on May 11th, after I came back from my honeymoon I found an email to review their services.
I wish I ordered more cake, because after we were done, we wanted it more!
I was surprised that was a bad review, and I actually know why. Their cakes are done in european style so they turn out fluffy, moist, light and not too full of sugar like other bakeries.
And for people that like to taste fat and sugar, it is definitely the wrong place. A lot of flavor!
The quality of the cake was incredible. I also called them after posting the review to let them know that they made my day more than special.
I AM DEFINITELY COMING BACK!

I highly recommend to anybody that wants to have a beautiful, delicious and tasty cake. YOU WON'T REGRET IT!

PROS: Great beautiful affordable and tasty cake.
CONS: The store is small. If you are by yourself with them, it is fine. But it is hard to stay inside if there are other people in there with you.

I had just come from the Addison's Restaurant in Boca Raton where there was this party where Hot & Tasty delivered this cigar box cake.
The Executive Chef there said that it was the best cake he had seen in that restaurant (and he had seen his share of them...)
So I thought... Hummm, I want to know who they are.
I got their address and stopped by.
I ordered a fresh German Chocolate Cake for two days later.
IT WAS DELICIOUS!!!!
I am used to great quality German Chocolate (since I am from Sweden...)
I just came back from my trip to Germany and this cake was top notch.
I couldn't say enough!
It is definitely a place to be checked out.
I heard they are getting a bigger place. And, they should!
For those who love quality and not the crappy american sugar and fattening desserts, you will be in the right place! I will definitely call it a "fusion" bakery (nice european style with healthy and tasty brazilian cooking... lol)

My next order will be a fondant chocolate cake. Probably a shoe box with a real shoe on the side. That will be really neat!

Thank you so much for your timely delivery of a Cheesecake to my Dad for his 89th birthday. He said the cake was absolutely delicious; and his wife, who is not a cheesecake lover as he is, gave it extremely high praise. In addition to it's lovely appearance, she said it was yummy.

What a pleasure to work with Junior and his wife. Junior did not have a Scooby-Doo cake already, but he jumped in with both feet did some research and designed one,it was the perfect fit for my 4 year old cake. The service was fabulous and the cake was heavenly. 4 yr old kids always love the cake, but parents usually don't have much to say. Not the case with this one. Nothing but complements, followed by, "Where is this bakery!" I highly recommend this family owned and operated bakery. 2 thumbs up to you and your staff.

Thank you so much for the Grooms cake! Everyone loved it and were taking pics because they had never seen such an amazing looking cake. Even the people walking by our restaurant were staring and taking pics too! It was the hit of our party!

I was lookin for a bakery for a special cake I wanted to have. I wanted something "naughty" as they said in the bakery... I just wanted something funny to have a couple laughs. I loved the cake! The cake was absolutely amazing! And not only it looked good, it tasted good! I was very happy!
Looking at this little shop from outside, you don't think much. You just see the grass that needs some maintenance in a busy plaza, but the smell when you get in is delicious. It makes you hungry right away.
Everybody was so nice. I didn't know they serve lunch, subs, wraps, salads, so I ate a meat ball before talking to Chef Junior.
He was very attentive, and his wife wrote every detail. They even made a drawing of the cake and showed pictures on their laptop.
I saw that they really got it, and I felt in good hands.
Later on, to my surprise, I quickly got an email with the quoted price and with the credit for my deposit. That was quite organized for a little bakery shop and days after I picked up the cake a link to post this review.
They delivered the cake on the day as promised and were nice enough to leave instructions for us to take care of it.
The cake was a big hit! I believe as far as price, quality, organization, professionalism, they sure are a winning family team!

PS: Later on I found out they work as a family with two other members taking care of correspondence, finances, email marketing and other details. Very neat!

First of all, you all were a pleasure to work with. The cake turned out beautifully! It was a hit! The club went mad when it came out..sparkler in tip was too funny! My guests loved the cake, as did I. I would definitely use you all again. We loved that the balls were shaped around gum balls--very funny. You really helped make my Drag Queen Birthday a hit!

My critique of the cake itself is this: I did wish the fondant was more flavoured and the cake itself a tiny bit more moist, but I would give it a 90% on the delicious scale.

I loved my cake. It was delicious. The staff/family at Hot & Tasty were really nice and attentive to my needs. I will order again. The price was fab! Couldn't believe it!
