Message from Bistro Don Camillo

Jean Philippe and Genevieve Guy welcome you to Bistro Don Camillo, where the food and wine from the French Riviera pair in complete harmony with the flavors from Italy. With the well established Bistro Provence in the Memorial area since 1998, they wanted to bring the Provencal food closer to the loop, but also stretching the borders into the Italian gastronomy. With the help of Executive Chef Ryan Hildebrand, they were able to merge two of the best Mediterranean cuisine into once concept at Bistro Don Camillo. The menu offers French-Italian fare with a large wine selection to choose from. Dine with friends and family in a friendly atmosphere when you visit Bistro Don Camillo in Houston, TX.

Excellent food, decent service - I'll be going back.

by benjaminaficus

The fresh bread and olive oil/garlic/herb dip served as an appetizer is very nice. The Chicken Cordon Bleu was excellent and the herb roasted potatoes and green beans couldn't have been cooked more perfectly. The dessert menu was very diverse and the creme brulee was spot on. Oddly enough, I found the lunch menu to be more inviting (selection-wise) than their standard menu. I'll definitely be going back there for dinner sometime and hope the experience will be equally as rewarding.

Pros: Food selection, Food quality, Ambiance, Dessert Menu

Cons: A little pricey, parking can be tight when busy

Disappointed

by aivod

We went there with a group of friends on a Saturday evening. The place is small but was nonetheless half empty. However, they do not take reservations. You would think that if they can't fill up to 50% of capacity on a Saturday, they might as well take a reservation, but no such luck. So when our group showed up they made us wait for a long time to put tables together. While waiting for the table we ordered a glass of the house merlot for each of us. The house wine was really bad, as in $5 per bottle from Walmart cheap stuff kind of bad.

They appear to be understaffed. All waiters and other personnel were running around and working hard and still they could barely keep up with the half-empty restaurant. As a result, service was less than good. By way of example, when we finished one of our wine bottles we ordered another one and had to remind the waiter 3 times over 15 min to bring out the second bottle. The real disappointment was when the food came out. Friends who ordered steak said their steaks came out cold. The veal was not seasoned well and tasted bland. I ordered duck and it was too salty and overcooked. At the end our checks averaged $140 per couple (which included 3 semi-good bottles of red wine shared among 8 people). Overall, this place is really pricey for the quality of service and food they offer. We will never go there again. There are plenty of other good French restaurants in town to choose from.

Cons: Mediocre food and service

really good

I really enjoy bistro provence (the other restaurant of Geny and Jean Philip) and i gave a try to their new restaurant. Now i don't know wich one to choose. Food was great, service very pleasant (altthough the waitress Elissa sdq from Provence was missing) and price affordable. Now they do to go menu, to bad i am working to far, it would have been a nice meal during my lunch break.

Nice quaint neighborhood Bistro

by TheBestCritic

We visited on Thursday night right after Bistro Don Camillo opened, along with some neighbors. Since it's walking distance, we couldn't wait for the opening. Food was very good, service was good, ambience was great; the only draw back was the food preperation time. Wine list was nice, but on the pricey side, with limited good values. I had the duck and it was excellent, some of the other dishes didn't match the quality of the duck. The group enjoyed deserts more than anything.

Pros: Abience, Warm Feeling, Location

Cons: Wine prices, Food Prep Slow

The best

What a wonderful french/italian restaurant!!! It is hidden on Del Monte @ Voss, but take the time to stop by... I live in the neighborhood and I think Bistro Don Camillo is just what we needed.
I love their pizza and pasta dishes, recommend the escargots and fried calamaris. They have special for lunch and dinner (one french and one italian). Their wine list is also french and italian with a wide price range.
Try to get there early on the weekends as they tend to get very busy.

Pros: food, wine list, location, ambiance
