I took my late model car to Sun Valley to have it smoged. The tech. saw that the check engine and maintenance lights on the dash were lite. He did the smog check. While he was doing so I mentioned that I might get my car's service done there. His face lite up as he qoted me various prices for things he suggested to have done. I told him that I was a senior on a fixed income and that I could not afford to have all of those things done at once. He said, "Well, your car won't pass the smog test unless I do them. It will never pass while those maintenance lights are on. I'll have to do all of those repairs before you can pass."

He knew before he did the smog test that the car would not pass because of the dash lights. Yet he did the test anyway and charged me $19.95. He wanted to get me for more but I said that was it. That was all of the money he was going to swindle me out of. I complained to the manage at the register. He gave me a line of balony that it was illegal to not do the test once I had signed the work order!

All the tech. had to do is reset the car's computer to turn of the dash lights. Instead he wanted to do over a hundred dollars of bogus repairs.

On the receipt was listed parts I never received and not a word about the dash lights. It merely stated that the emissions were more than the maximum allowable. That was just a computer glich caused by the maintenance lights needing to be reset.

I have had my car smoged with those lights on twice before. Both times the tech. merely reset the computer to turn of the warning lights and the car passed. The lights merely come on after so many miles past the last servicing and do not reflect the smog emissions. Now I am listed with the DMV as having failed a test and have the added expense of yet another smog test.

Don't go there to have them do anything to your car! They are crooks and scammers. I am just thankful I had the sense to leave before they really ripped me off.

If I could give a zero I would. I started going to Sun Valley 15 years ago. Recently they have gone from a reputable shop to a bunch of cheats who will never get your car right the first time. recently I took a car in to have them change a broken lug bolt. This necessitated pulling the hub and pressing the new bolt in from behind. I got the car back and discovered that they had merely found a bolt short enough to put in without pulling the hub! They still charged 60 bucks!
After getting my cash back I pulled the hub and did it myself. I then had a check engine light. I had Auto Zone do a diagnostic and the check was very specific. "jumped time, tensioner pulley failed".
I took the printout to see what they would charge for a timing belt change. A short trailer troll looking guy, after finishing his shuck and jive about girls with his buddy in the waiting room came out and asked to help me. I showed him the printout, he laughed, said "Imonna take yer car round back and do a real good computer check" He said Auto Zone was trying to sell me parts and he would never do that! I asked how much a "real good computer check" would cost and he told me 94 bucks! I started laughing and told him that wasnt going to happen took my slip and laughing so hard I was crying started to leave the store. He then yelled at me, "fine go somewhere else!" I told him I assuredly would go elsewhere before paying his BS charges and that after 15 years, I wasn't coming back. He then came running out the door after me yelling at me that I had better "Stop coming around his shop talking f*cking smack!" he continued to approach me in a threatening manner yelling at me! I told him to go back in his store and act professional. My kid was with me and stood amazed watching this walking turd scream at me in the open lot in front of customers! Imagine my surprise when I found out that this clown, whom I did not recognize, was the owner Terry! I did not even realize who he was, he looked like a bum who should be holding a sign, not the clean cut shop owner I met 15 years ago!
Get off the pipe Terry!
Do NOT patronize these people, they will rip you off! My stupid friend went, after I told him all this, and guess what? After changing his injector system twice at thousands of dollars cost, his check light still came on! He then got what I guess you call a "real bad" computer check at Aubtozone. they told him his O2 sensor was out and 8 bucks later light off! Gotta laugh when you tell someone and they still get ripped. Don't get ripped, go somewhere else. It is worth the drive down to LV blvd and Nellis area to find a shop that doesnt threaten you and steal!

Their "no catch" $10 smog check had a catch that was not on their website anywhere! Costs twice that for a (6 cylinder) light duty truck! Tested anyway, popped the hood and only one of the two wingnuts and NONE of the clamps that secure my air filter were properly reassembled. I wrote to them and received absolutely no response! POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE! A friendly and courteous demeanor behind the counter was the only plus...

I would like everyone in Las Vegas to know that Sun Valley Automotive is a *****FIVE STAR business. When I moved to LV two years ago, I was very concerned about finding a mechanic. I took my car to the same mechanic in San Diego from the day I got the car over 10 years ago until I moved to LV. Some of my friends would say, ??being a girl and not knowing what the mechanic is even talking about, makes a girl wonder if mechanics actually rip them off. With Sun Valley Automotive Mechanics this is not a concern, they are true, honest by the book mechanics.
People complain wherever you go about the cost of mechanics, well mechanics are comparative as a good Doctor is to their patient. Auto repair tasks are very involved and hard work. Most people just complain how much it cost without even knowing what repairs the mechanic made and how much time and labor was put into the repairing of a car of any magnitude.
My point here is if you like to have confidence in knowing you are getting your car repaired whatever the problem may be by absolute best profession, top of the line mechanics give yourself a treat and go to Sun Valley Automotive. The office staff is most friendly and professional, provide explicit details to the customer ever inch of the way, itemizing every detail and every charge. Letting the customer make the choice.
When you drive away in your car after a Sun Valley Automotive mechanic has worked on your car you no longer have any worries ?? your car will run excellent, you didn??t get ripped off, nor did you have to over pay. I know Sun Valley Automotive is the best in the business in Las Vegas; I researched intensely when I arrived from San Diego. Sun Valley Automotive is the greatest place to take your car, at least go check it out for an oil change or a smog check they are open until midnight, which is way cool. I love Sun Valley Automotive, great atmosphere, honest business, accurate diagnostics; superb top-notch mechanics that make your car run excellent. I know my car is safe because Sun Valley Automotive mechanics worked on it. I am just a customer trying to spread the word. If you do not believe me, give them a call and ask for yourself. ? sp

I have been waiting almost 14 months for Sun Valley to complete an engine overhaul for my 1968 Ford Mustang. I started the repair July of 2010 so my daughter could drive the car to school junior year. She is starting her senior year this August 2011 and it is still not done. They have continually failed to communicate with me, locate parts and work to complete this job. I am having to resort to hiring a tow truck and taking the car to someone else to finish it. Since they moved locations and started doing fleet repair work their attention to the little guys who were their bread and butter has faded. I was a loyal customer of theirs for almost 15 years and unfortunately after their treatment of my vehicle and lack of effort to complete the ""two week"" job, my relationship with them is at an end. I now know how Tom Hanks' caracter felt in the movie ""The Money Pit.""

They have taken 13 1/2 months to attempt to complete an engine overhaul for my 1968 Ford Mustang. They have continually dropped the ball on providing information, locating parts, and just plain doing the work in earnest. I had been a customer since they were located on the corner of Lone Mt and Rancho and had always been pleased. This is no longer the case! Their treatment of my vehicle and lack of effort tells me that I am not appreciated as a customer.

My simple battery replacement cost was:
$92 Labor
$223.96 Parts
$15.80 Supplies
$3.16 Disposal of old battery
$19.42 Tax
$354.34 Total !!!!!!

My new battery is an O'reilly that cost $155.00 from O'reilly auto parts (conveniently located right across the street). After Taxes they marked up the cost of the battery $75.00!!
When I asked about the 'supplies' charge I was told it was for shop towels, uniforms, and other misc supplies. $15.80 for that!!??
These people are rip-off artists and are more expensive than dealerships.
Stay Away!!

Sun Valley Automotive, Las Vegas has ripped me off, last month I have some problem in my car, I went to Sun Valley, and they have diagnosed the car. They said it would take approximate one day to repair; I left my car there and paid some advance to them. Next day when I went there, they have not done anything, they told me to come again. Next day it happens again. I become very frustrated, and then I had searched another Auto Repair Shop for my car. It was a horrible experience for me; even they have not returned the money. I recommend you all to not contact these frauds.

Lots of bitching here, and for good reason. Any post complimenting SVA is posted by their stooges. In fact, a former customer service rep, Chuck, told me "it pays to have a big family to invent posts". I took my vechicle in for a possible transmission problem. The bill was nearly $4,000. Then got a second opinion from AAAMCO--guess what, nothing wrong with the transmission at all. These people do not care who they screw. If you go there, you will be next. Stay away.

This has to be the worst place to get your vehicle worked on. The cost to repair the damage they did to my truck (In the thousands) is still haunting me nine months later. They even screwed up a simple oil change!!! I encourage anyone who has had the displeasure of doing business with these crooks to send a complaint to the Better Business Bureau then maybe with enough effort we can get the doors closed on this place!!

Stay away from this place! Had a female friend take her car here to find out why engine cooling fan was not coming on when the a/c was turned on they told her the engine was not overheating at this time.suspect fan is intermittently non-operational and recommended replacement of fan assembly at a cost of $668.00 which she declined to have done at that price.New fan price at autozone is under a hundred. But here is where it gets good they told her during inspection they found a pcv hose leaking and recommend replacement so she did which was a big mistake they got her for $67.64 for 14.09 parts 46.00 labor 5.00 supplies and 1.00 for disposal and1.55 tax. I am not done here is the best part! They told her she had excessive engine vibration and recommend replacement of motor mounts for a price of $1430.00! ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!! I just replaced them a week ago.She told them to look in the trunk and they would see the old ones that came off the car. They had no comment on it. I will be checking out this car, only reason i did not already is because i was out of town. This place is EVIL toward women so I would NOT RECOMMEND this place to anyone anymore. This place is what makes the honest mechanics look bad. This place is a rip-off!!!!!!!!!!

Don't ever take your car to this crooked shop. I took my car in for a diagnostic because it was shifting hard and long shift to 2nd gear. They told me it was caused by a broken transmission mount only. I assumed, ( you know what happens when you do that) that they did a complete diagnostic ruling out transmission failure. But no, they did not, they just ""looked"" at it and decided the most obvious thing must be all that is wrong with it. Well that ""band-aid"" worked for 3 days and then my car did the same exact thing. I took it back to Sun Valley complaining that my car was still not fixed and they said that they could now do more testing. What? Why? Didn't they already do a diagnostic. Apparently no. I refused and took it to Findlay Honda, they told me my transmission was failing and didn't even charge me a diagnostic fee. \n\nNot only do you get ripped off but you get treated horribly. I tried to formally complain to the General manager, Mike Rumple, but I have only had the pleasure of talking to him twice, each time less than 5 minutes. I have called several times and am always told the same, he is out of the office or in a meeting. Apparently Sun Valley doesn't care about customer service. \n\nWhen you look at their website they are accredited with an A+ rating from the better business bureau, say that they have ASE certified technicians and are a affiliated with Tech-Net. Which is misleading because you expect knowledgeable technicians and ethical service, you get neither of those with Sun Valley Auto.\n\nJust so everyone knows, Terry B. is Terry Buis the OWNER of Sun Valley Automotive. Shame on you Terry, you should take better care of your company.

The only reason I chose a star is because I have too...If it were my choice they would get a negative grade.
Well at first I thought that they offered excellent customer service....Dun...Dun...Dun...then they half a$$ed installed my fuel pump, half a$$ed re-wired under my dash, and then....are you sitting down? They claimed that my ECM ( Computer) was fried and needed to be replaced....well the original ECM is still in my car an inch thick with dust and cob webs....so they ripped me off because my mother was helping with the service...pigs all they saw were dollar signs....Not to mention that I had to go out of state about 500 miles and they didn't install the fuel pump properly...so it was pouring out gas my whole trip...you want to know the best part ....the un-helpful and un-caring general manager had the never to say that that was nothing to be concerned with as if it is ok to drive the interstate in a mobile bomb with my daughter with me... Thanks alot for your crummy service...if you value your life and your children's life then you will stay clear of Sun Valley Automotive!

@ Terry B... You must somehow be affiliated with this disgusting shop...and if you by any chance are the owner then I suggest that you spend a little more time with your employees to ensure that your customers are not getting ripped off and their lives are not being put in danger! You have not heard the end of this!

Over 5 years ago I was recommended to Sun Valley by my father who is a retired auto shop owner/mechanic (not from Sun Valley). Back then the service was reputable, but it seems that lately they are slipping. Last summer they somehow charged me $112 to recharge the freon in my 10 year old Chevy Cavalier. I knew there were no problems with the a/c then, that the car was just old and the freon was bad (it is very common - despite what some shops will say - to need a freon recharge in a 10+ year old car). Anyway, they refused to recharge it without an inspection, I thought that that was somewhat reasonable and I trusted them so I allowed it. Too bad their inspection came up with my same conclusion (just old) and it cost me an extra one hour labor charge.

Not to mention that now - six months later - the a/c is not working. Never had a problem with it until Sun Valley touched it. I will be taking it into a different shop this time, a shop that at least will do the inspection for free and not rip me off.

Oh, did I mention that on my last trip to Sun Valley they tried to tell me that I needed my dip stick replaced among other b.s. 'necessary services' that I 'absolutely needed'.

These guys are desperate for cash and will do anything to sell you service you do not need. Dave will try and distract you by talking about irrelevant topics. I am a broke college student and I feel that they took advantage of me for being young. I am not sure I would trust them for a $10 smog check. Now I do not blame the kids left there to work else where. They could not stand the immoral business practices being performed.

Family owned and operated for 23 years in Las Vegas, Our A+ BBB record speaks for itself. To the volvo owner I would say its very unlikly that we would have left the hoses off as it would not hold coolant and it would be gushing out gallons of coolant on the ground as soon as the vehicle started.Hard to miss that even for a 1 star shop. We dont make everyone happy but you will find that in 23 years of doing business in the valley we have very few real complaints with BBB or consumer affairs division. Its easy for competitors or ex employees to write any thing online. If you want to know about a local business look into the agencys that handle real issues and see the businesses track record.

I just want to say that Sun Valley Automotive is one of the most reputable and honest automotive shops you will find anywhere! I have always been treated by Sun Valley Automotive with compassion, as a young woman I have always been treated with respect by their staff, and the mechanics have always taken the time to explain to me what is wrong with my vehicle and what needs to be fixed. I've been using their services for over 5 years - from their old shop to their new shop - and I've never once been disappointed. I also enjoy knowing that this is a Family Run business!!! :)

Had my car jump started on June 19, 2009 by Darrell of Fast Tow - he recommened this rip off joint. Purchased a NEW battery for 111.95 and labor for 46.00 and shop charge of 7.90 and tax of 9.29 for ta total of 175.14. Well the battery lasted all of 8 monthes - Auto club came out twice and jump started and would not hold a charge.

I have taken all three of my vehicles to Sun Valley for about 15 years. During that time, I've never had a negative experience. I was always treated fairly and the work was always done right the first time.

I highly recommend them.

Took my 99 Volvo SW in for service (service lite on) talked with Dave and he suggested I do the 90,000 mile work - which I agreed to for just under $300.00. Dave called back later and said the radatior was leaking and I asked if it could be plugged and he said had to have a new one for a cost of $600.00 including the labor. Picked the car up the next day - early evening and paid, go into the car and now the Engine lite is on. No one can take care of problem, bring it back next day. When I got home I opened the hood and it is the same radatior and the hoses are disconnected. Called and they said it would take several hours to determine cause and I asked to be brought back home and they said they could not - I would have to get my one ride home and back to them.

First off I'd like to say we were on a road trip down from Tempe, AZ (7-8 hour Drive), We got here and the party began, while driving around town my car started making a funny noise kinda like it was straining a little.(not a car guy excuse my Lingo ha ha) went into a nearby club and ask one of the staff where i a good place to take my car since we are 7-8 hours from home. I was instructed on Sun Valley Automotive as one of the better NON-overpriced places around. the Manager told me they would give me a good deal. When i arrived nothing but the best was received. these guys really did give me a deal on getting my car Fixed. Turned out my car was desparate for oil and my Oil light was broken.( I need to watch the Miles NOT the Oil Light) They were nothing but helpful and it really didn't take to long. Got my Oil Changed and my Oil Light fixed for a great deal. i believe the mechanic' s name i had was Dan.remembered since we had the same name. if im ever back in Las vegas again and have any car troubles these are the guys im taking my car to. it had a family style atmosphere and everyone there was very helpful. If i had Drove all the way home with a car running out of oil and no oil light to tell who knows where i would be.

I just picked my truck up from Sun Valley. (Oct 23) I brought it in to them June 9th. I had quite a few things I wanted done. I spent over $3000.00 there and still have problems with the truck. For 4 1/2 months they continued to tell me lies, when I could get a return call. They told me parts that I needed were on back order, then the parts weren't even on the bill. It was terribly disappointing to be treated the way I was there. Unless you enjoy being taken advantage of, stay away from Sun Valley!

I used to work for this company so I can tell you first hand that they are hard up for money and do and charge for repairs that are not needed. For example there is a long time female customer of theirs that owns a later 90's Rav 4. technician told her originally that all of her coolant bypass hoses were leaking and needed replaced. In all actuality only two were leaking. this repair cosed $1000.00 for all of them. customer paid for repair not needed. Watch out for this company Las Vegas! They treat there employees horribly so your not likely to get the best service do to rapid turn around in employees.

I was going on a road trip and I needed the transmission serviced on my truck. I also did an oil change and overfilled by a quart. Never mind how I did that. I called Sun Valley Automotive and scheduled an appointment to service my transmission. I asked them if they could also drain a quart of oil out of my pan. They assured me it was no problem. So, I left my truck there and picked it up about two hours later. When I looked at the receipt I noticed that the oil draining was not on there, but the transmission service was. I asked if they drained it, and they assured me it was. Hmm, I saw the guy who drained it, and there was no oil on him. If you ever drained the oil on a Cummings diesel, you know it is messy! So i checked the oil the next day, and it was still a quart high! I took it back and they told me that it was fine when it left, so I must have fuel in my oil! And they were strongly urging me to leave it there. They even used props! they had an oil pan with oil and fuel under the truck and said they drained that out of my engine! I sensed B.S. so I drove the truck to the dealership and told them what I was told at Sun Valley. They checked the oil and laughed! The oil was perfect, After they drained a quart of course! I pulled a 13,000 pound trailer to CA with no problem the next weekend! Watch out for these people. They are not to be trusted!

this place is the last place i will ever take my car to again. estimate was way more then quoted. i had my car towed there so i had no choice but to do the work. i dropped my car off at 10 am on a saturday and work was not done until noon on sunday. its an hour job tops. they say they do first come first serve business. well how could 26 hours pass before my work was done then. terrible service. never kept me informed by phone. and as usual they wanted to do more work then i needed done. once i declined the "extra work" they were rude and difficult. beware of sun valley auto

I just took my car in for some work and I'm glad I chose Sun Valley. The customer service was phenomenal, and I was really impressed with their honesty and quick turn around. I will never take my car anywhere else, and I've already told all my friends and family about this place. Use Sun Valley and you won't be disappointed. This place is top notch.

My experience with Sun Valley Automotive was frightening. I just moved to Las Vegas and am an older woman. Sun Valley replaced my headlights on my truck and replaced a hose relating to the engine at the top of the engine. The owner drove a Harley Davidson motorcycle with a chrome kickstand in the shape of a skeleton hand giving the finger. He has long grey hair and his attitude toward women is frightening. I told him repairs in Las Vegas were expensive and he started screaming at me that I was calling him an inappropriate name that I would never say, nor can I print it in this post. I told him I had never called him any names and to please stop screaming at me and his behavior escalated. He was threatening and frightening. The lights did not work properly when I turned them on that evening. The brights did not work. I returned to the shop and they refused to fix the lights. The lights and a hose cost me $356. The experience cost me my sense of security. The owner is menacing and threatening. I left his shop with my hands shaking and sick to my stomach because of the owner's threatning behavior.

Reading Bart C. comments, it??s safe to say he was not happy with failing his test. Four guys coming to rough Bart up for the $29.50 smog fee is a bit absurd. Sun Valley Automotive has been a family owned shop, helping people for 20 years and known for their integrity and quality work. BBB member and a regular Honor roll recipient.DMV is not an agency without bite. Anyone who is told ??we guaranty a pass? or offers a shady deal to pass a vehicle is in direct violation of Nevada laws and the fines are severe to both technician performing smog and business. DMV routinely sends in vehicles ??undercover? to all stations.

Took my 2000 ford Windstar there and it had a lot of stuff undone for a few years. I was short on funds and asked that they get the worst stuff first until I ran out of money. They got it running like a top and went about $60.00 over my limit because the problems were not something I should drive away with and still use the car, as I had to. They told me every step of the way what they were doing and up dated the price and the priority list as they corrected each step. I am very happy with the work and the customer service. I will send my friends there if they ask me if I know a good shop.

I have used this service garage for 14 years and have continued to be impressed with their honesty, integrity, promptness and quality of work. They have always delivered a quality finished product and been very cordial in the process. If they say they will correct the problem then they do it honestly rather than using the most expensive way to alleviate the situation.

I have taken my vehicle, a 1999 Suburban 2500 other places for price comparisons and found Sun Valley to be lower and yet more efficient. It seems that volume of work rather than high prices is their standby. I know several retired people who I have sent their way have been delighted with them also and made them their mechanics.

One of the best finds in the northwest part of the valley for automotive care.

My 97 expedition engine blew a valve out on a trip up to Mt Chas. It ran rough but it continued to run. These guys gave me the price, came under it and did a great job. I've added another 20K miles and it still purrs. I've sent three friends there. They all thanked me as they had great work done at really good prices.
I found the guys at Sun Valley to be very honest, even if the truth hurts a bit, like in my case. I really did not like hearing that my truck running rough was from a broken valve. They gave me the options and how long the engine should last with each. They were not interested in just doing a quick patch job so I could sell it. I appreciated their integrity within their industry which is riddled with problems.

My breaks went on my car, I took the car to the repair shop, they looked at it late in the day and called me with the cost. The price was fair, but when I went to pick up the car, it was less than quoted. They even fixed my breaklight at no cost. The shop is really busy and open 7 days a week good place

We took our motorhome for a smog test. It didn't pass. They were extremely rude! They told us they would "guarantee!" it would pass if we left the vehicle with them. I explained I was NOT going to pay for their scam to MAKE a vehicle pass emissions! Then they threatened us - about 4 guys started coming toward us - this was late in the evening and no one else was around. Don't waste your time with these guys! I called the smog fraud line but basically they can't do anything. I was willing to do anything to help catch them in their deceit!

PROS: Absolutely none!
CONS: Scammers, rude, threatening! Called BBB and Consumer watch!
