I'm only exaggerating slightly when I say that Writing Pad saved my life. I was stuck in that rut of "should be writing tonight". I had a creativity jones that got fixed in my first class. Marilyn creates such a welcoming atmosphere in her cozy pad, I felt comfortable right away. She got the students started with a fun, mind-revving set of quick questions and we just started writing, mere minutes after we had sat down. Three exercises and one yummy desert later, I was hooked. Now, a year later, I still love going to workshops, heading over after a hard day at work, drained of all hope of creativity, and then being amazed at how a little tea, gourmet food, good company and skillfully led free-write exercises can coax that creative writer to the page.

The classes I take at Writing Pad use the "Amherst Writers' Method" (which you can google separately). I screen-write, which as you probably know is quite structured and rule-driven. The Amherst Method, and how it is implemented in the Writing Pad workshops, exercises a different set of creative musculature because it is based on impulse, improvisation and free-association. Your fellow writers will produce some of the funniest, truest and best material you have ever heard in a workshop, using this method. It's almost worth going for the entertainment value alone.

I love Writing Pad. Anytime I'm having writer's block, I sign up for a class, and I'm re-charged to finish my book. I've met the greatest people there who I get to see over and over because no one stops at just one class. The gourmet food is just icing on the cake.
