5 to Try: Exotic Cocktails

I just moved to midtown early this year and i dont know many people and many good restaurants. I usually read up on them before i visit them mainly because i dont have anyone to recommend any. Well i read up on Sweet Devil Moon and was surprised to find many poor reviews. I decided to visit this restaurant anyway. Wow! I couldnt believe this was the same place. The food was excellent! I love latin food and was glad to see a mix of latin tapas on the menu. I only tried a few but they were all very tasty. The mole was flavorful and so was the chicken and rice. I ordered a mojito because this is a drink that varies from place to place. I must say, it was neither too sweet nor too minty. I was just rite. A definite must if you go. Everyone was very friendly and the service was superb. Unfortunately, i was there on a tuesday so i didnt hear any live music. But im definitely going back.

Pros: Food, Price, Service
Cons: No draft beer.

I have never eaten here.....so I cant speak to how the food tastes...although it always looks very pretty. I love the atmosphere....it is so dark in there! They have the best mohijtos in town and $10 bottemless sangria...you can't beat that. The service is a bit slow so be warned but they are super friendly!

Two of my friends and I walked in to dine about an hour before the restaurant closes. There were no workers in the front room so I asked the bartender if there was a hostess. She replied, "Nooo. Do you want a table or something?" in the rudest manner. Our waitress, Monick, was a little better until we tried to order a few more tapas. She said we couldn't order anything else because it was too late. I let her know it would have been nice if she had told us the cutoff time for ordering and that we were all still hungry. On top of this, the food was also subpar to the agreement of my friend who is Peruvian. I reiterated that we were extremely unhappy with the service and to please get our check. She then has the audacity to add gratuity even though we were just a party of 3! My other friend asked if this was customary, and Monick said yes. We waited again for her to return to run our card. Instead of being prompt, she begins to help bust a table with another server. Mind you, our table and the other table were THE ONLY CUSTOMERS THERE from 10-11pm! At this point, I just wanted to leave this horrid place! I yelled, "Excuse me! Can we get this check taken care of?" She grabs the check and mocks me as she heads towards the back room. She returns and says, "So when I run the card, it won't let me add the gratuity so just write the gratuity I added on the tip line." RIGHT. We left NO tip. Of COURSE, we knew she would still run the card including the tip she had given herself. My friend checked her account immediately and there the WRONG charge was. My friend phones the restaurant. Owner Paul Vinces answers and assures us the charge will be corrected. We let him know that we will never ever dine there again and will also advise everybody we know to do the same. Not surprisingly, he has little reaction or resolve to this. I think Paul and all of his disrespectful, ill-mannered employees should rethink whether they should be in the business of HOSPITALITY.

Cons: HORRIBLE SERVICE EVER - made us feel unwanted during our entire meal.

I always enjoy dining at this restaurant! The weekends offer great music and upbeat atmosphere and try Thursday nights if you like a little salsa dancing. I really enjoy the recent menu changes (esp. the lamb!). The Ceviche is always delicious and they make a great mojito.

The yuca rellena, peruvian saltado, and cameron al ajo were delicious and the mojitos were well-made. However, the service was exceedingly slow even though the restaurant was pretty much empty. Furthermore, our waiter made a mistake in overcharging our credit cards even though we had given a generous cash tip. Instead of apologizing and offering to rectify the situation, he first blamed us and then claimed nothing could be done. I was shocked by this response, since such mistakes happen at other businesses and it seemed pretty simple to cancel transactions and resubmit the proper amounts. No matter how tasty and unique the food might be, carelessness and dismissive attitudes toward monetary transactions are just not acceptable to me. Therefore, I will not return to this restaurant.

Pros: Tasty, unique food; energetic location
Cons: Poor customer service; inaccurate billing/credit card charging; limited parking
