Worst food ever 1 Star Rating - Unsatisfactory

first off i would like to say they only got a star because i have no choice but to give them one. Secondly I always look forward to a good tasting desert. And latetly I havent been getting that. Why is that is because I had found out that the pastry chef they used to have no longer works there. If anyone knows any information about her i would love to have it. She can really make a good cheesecake.

Pros: need the old pastry chef back
Cons: need to fire current pastry chef

What about the desserts when you first OPENED!!!!!! 2 Star Rating - Wouldn't recommend

I have been here recently, and I must say that the bbq is still the same, and the sides, and all of the other works. But I was looking foward to that dessert they used to have. The cheesecake is not the same in consistency, and I prefer that Pumpkin Cheesecake with all the toppings. And OH MY!!! that Banana Rum Pudding was to die for with homemade peacan shortbread, was very unique and I am having a hard time looking for that same pleasent taste in Banana Rum Pudding, made with real meringue and not marshmellow fluff. Talk about not home made. What happened to the Pastry Chef? Bring her back. She did special desserts for when we came in for anniversary's and birthdays. I wish I new her name, and where she is at. Talk about a natural at Dessert making. If anyone knows please contact me..AND LETS NOT FORGET THE SWEET POTATO CORNBREAD......YUMMY JUST THINKING ABOUT IT, BUT KNOWING I CAN NOT GET IT NOW.

Pros: The BBQ
Cons: THE DESSERTS NEEDS HELP, GET OLD PASTRY CHEF BACK

The Pit: Delicious food, great atmosphere 4 Star Rating - Very good

I have been to The Pit probably 15 times, so this review is not based on one good or bad experience. I've been for lunch and dinner, weekday and weekend. I'd say overall, this is a fantastic place to dine. The food has been consistently delicious. Of the 15 times I've been, maybe 2 times the food was not "amazing" but just "okay." One time the ribs were dry and the other time the pulled pork (at lunch) tasted like MAYBE it was warmed over. But the other 13 times, it was delicious. I think that's a pretty good percentage. I definitely prefer the ribs, pulled pork, barbecued and fried chicken to their chopped pork (which I thought was slightly mushy but I only tried it once). They also have a "turkey barbecue" that is delicious and a healthier opton. The sides are fresh and the food is always hot.

Sometimes I have to say the service is not that great, but it does seem to be getting better. All the service problems I had were in the first few months of them opening. But lately I have not had problems.

I also think the prices are really reasonable. You get a full r a c k (LOL: citysearch won't let me type the word R A C K!) of ribs with sides for $20 and you can go to chain places and the ribs cost more and aren't as tasty. Plus the Pit has organic (antibiotic free) pork, if that matters to you.

This doesn't take the place of the "greasy diner" type 'cue places like Coopers, but there is room for both folks, so don't go trashing the Pit b/c it's not Coopers. This is a great place to take the family out to dinner at night, to take out-of-town guests, or have business lunches.

The Pit is definitely a favorite.

Pros: delicious food, great ambience
Cons: spotty service

Great Food 5 Star Rating - World class

The Pit was great on on fronts. The food was very flavorful a fresh tasting. Our server was very friendly and came around just enough to make sure we were ok without being annoying. We also had some drinks at the bar (great selection of beers beers and bourbens) and the bartender was very friendly as well. What impressed us most about this establishment was the ambient. The design was Hip and done very tastefully. Two thumbs up, going back soon. We need more places like this!

Pros: everything
Cons: too far from my house

worst BBQ ever!! 1 Star Rating - Unsatisfactory

The Pit is definitely the pits!! Well named. After searching for over ten minutes to find any trace of the Pit on Citysearch, we finally discovered it under "Empire Eats". I have to believe this is a deliberate attempt to prevent people from writing reviews. I hope I never have as bad an experience in a restaurant again. The barbeque is horrible!!! We had a combo of turkey, chicken, and pork. The chicken was a wing and a breast that looked like it came off of a sparrow, the pork was more gristle, skin, and fat than meat, and the turkey was as dry as the Sahara. The bread and hushpuppies were served cold, the beer we had was served in a freshly washed HOT glass, and the brussel sprouts were rock hard and cold. The flies were absolutely intolerable, and the hayseed rendering of the whole hog on the front partition is not what you would call atmosphere. Is this a joke?? Is this one of those "it's not really a restaurant commercial"? In this economy, we all appreciate inexpensive, but stay home and have a PB&J before going here!!!

Pros: inexpensive
Cons: the food and the atmosphere ( well, everything )
