After pricing and listening to many systems at Car Toys and Frye's a friend referred me to Mobile West. Peter sent me a quote and his prices were in-line with the competition. Well, when he said I wouldn't believe the quality of the speakers his shop carried I had to hear them for myself. Being an audiophile, I have very high standards. Peter's claim of "unbeatable sound" was true, true, true. Mobile West built a custom sub and installed everything behind my factory mounts. You'd never know I have a rocking system until I turn it on.

To beat that, when we had some confusion over the level of alarm quoted and what I thought I was getting - Peter had his team reinstall the higher version at no cost. And the confusion was my fault since I was so excited about the speakers I forgot to tell him about which alarm I wanted. The price on the alarm beat everyone else by $50 and didn?t include all the extra fees the competition wanted to charge. (not to mention the double install at no charge ? thanks Peter!)

I'll be back to his shop and so will my friends. Way to go Mobile West!

This place is tops! Peter helped make a sound system for my car that has amazing clarity...and lots of power! The experience was fabulous, he even gave me his car to drive home while I left mine to be installed. I KNOW he went out of his way to make me a deal! I will be back soon to add that subwoofer!! The Hertz Mille speakers are so crisp, and the Hertz coax's in the rear really give a complete bliss around you.

I decided to switch out my seven year old factory stereo for something that I could connect my iPod to and which included Bluetooth hands-free support. Peter spent a lot of time explaining feature sets and helping me compare several available options. He was very patient and didn't pressure me at all.

The install process went smoothly and Peter took extra time to make sure I understood how to use all of the features. When I had trouble connecting my phone via Bluetooth, he patiently helped me diagnose the problem (my phone required an additional step) to make sure everything was working before I left.

When I later noticed that one of the rear speakers did not seem to be working properly, they fit me in the same day and figured out that the factory amp (which I had told them to re-use in order to save a few bucks) was not working properly on that channel. They rewired the rear speakers into the new head unit powered outputs at no additional charge, and it sounds great now.

I am thoroughly impressed with Mobile West and will use them for any car audio work that I need in the future.

Peter, the owner, is a great listener and quickly understood what I was trying to do and recommend a product that suited my needs even better than what I was originally looking for.

He offered both products but the one he recommended actually saved me a few dollars. I was so comfortable with Peters suggestion that I purchased the product without doing any research, (very unlike me) and took it for granted that I was getting a fair price. When I got home I found I received a brand new in-box product with professional installation for about the same price as an uninstalled refurbished on Amazon.

Since then, I have a few minor issues with product software updates and Peter has always been more than willing to squeeze me in with very little notice.

I can't say enough good things about my experience. An independent business with the same products as the big box stores but better prices.

I would not hesitate to do business with Mobile West in the future.

It seemed like they had a busy day yesterday, but I came away very satisfied. I had the guys replace my radio and speakers, and I was impressed with how good it sounds! I know I have a difficult vehicle to work on (mercedes) and they were tring to fit me in, but they did a great job. Peter took the time (even though the phone kept ringing) to let me hear the difference between speakers and decks, and when it was done, Carlos (who worked on my car) showed me how everything works.... It was great! I don't know what the other guy was talking about.....I've got to do my wife's car next.

This was the THIRD place I tried to work with to get a car stereo installed in my vehicle. As a young female with relatively no knowledge about car stereos/audio, I had faced trouble with two other locations in finding something that suited my needs. In the end, I felt a little pushed around -- overcharged and left with less-than-quality products in my vehicle. I may not know much about car stereo systems, but I certainly have a good ear and can tell when something is below par.

After two less-than-acceptable installations, I was skeptical about visiting a third location. This place was a dream come true. Their customer service was excellent, they were honest and patient with me, and the product that was eventually installed was of high quality for a reasonable price. Three reasons this place was far better than any other place I worked with:

--I was allowed -- no, encouraged! -- to listen to every single sound system I wanted for as long as I wanted to
--My inexperience/lack of car stereo knowledge was addressed patiently and informatively
--The enthusiasm and positive energy of the salesperson was refreshing and uplifting

I went in on Friday the 19th looking to replace my stereo that was stolen. I wish I would have found these guys a week ago when I had an alarm installed! They were SUPER nice, friendly and didn't treat me like I was an idiot because I am female. They understood my budget and didn't push me to buy what I couldn't afford. They even fixed my hatch release that the alarm installer (NOT Mobile West) hadn't reconnected. And they didn't charge me. They were also kind enough to bring to my attention that I had a flat. They put air in my tire and directed me down the street toLes Schwab. I have been telling all of my friends how great these guys are. Thanks Mobile West for making my stereo shopping easy and stress free!!!!

I met Peter and his guys last year. Since then he has installed a complete Exile/Alpine system in my T100 with bluetooth hands free setup. He then showed me in my saab that you can hear the difference between my old sony and my new Alpine. Damn. I own an auto shop. I get angry at cars. Driving home (30 mile commute) every night in cars that Mobile West has equipped with great stereos makes me LOVE driving again!. I have heard many car stereos, being in the business and all, but I have never heard how great it can sound when somebody as knowledgeable and skilled as Peter and his crew get it done right. The first time. For a fair price. The best part is they are a small local company. Why go to Car Toys when you can talk to someone who knows who you are when they answer the phone. I refer all my customers to Mobile West, and would advise anyone in Portland who wants gps, navigation, stereos, or any mobile electronics to see these guys. They are the best I have ever dealt with, and would wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone. PERIOD!

I had Peter and crew install a deck, speakers, amp, dynamat and sub in my Tacoma. They did a great job and the system sounds sweet. I had shopped them against other shops and they were fairly priced and were very easy to deal with. I had some other dealers try to push me into equipment I didn't need or swing for the fences in their pricing...They did a great job on the system and I have recommended them to all of my friends. I also had them install a handsfree system which came out great. I recently went in to have a satellite radio installed in my other car, and didn't think twice about shopping it since I had dealt with them a few times before. Turns out I was charged $179.00 for a unit that lists at $129.00, and can be found all over the internet for $99.00. On top of that I was charged an additional $35.00 installation....I blame myself for not doing the research first. So, while I think that Mobile West is the best place in Portland to get a stereo installed, and I believe they are honest, make sure you know the current pricing of your equipment before you go in there- you could end up paying a lot more than you should, like I did. They do good work, but I won't be going back.

I told Peter how much I wanted to spend. He listened to my current system and set me up with six really nice speakers, rather than trying to talk me into an entirely new system. The installers had me back on the road quickly. If only it was this nice and easy buying from ALL retailers!

I had previously purchased a used phone with Mobile West and had an okay experience. So when I needed a simple fuse for my amp I went to three different places unable to find what I needed. I then remembered they were right down the street and headed straight there, went in and asked what seemed a futile request for a simple fuse. Who ever he was he took me into the shop, pulled out a couple of fuses and I asked how much and he said how 'bout a buck. Thanks for doing what a national chain or what a corporate peon couldn't have done. I'll be heading back whenever I need something they offer.

My excellent experience with Mobile West started with the very first phone call. Peter was so pleasant and friendly, I thought I had the wrong number. Every shop I've ever dealt with seemed as if they were doing me a favor in helping me and if you're a mobile audio n00b like me, the service gets even worse. I brought my new Tundra to Mobile West to correct an issue from an install from another mobile audio outfit referred to me by my dealer (almost no bass coming from the sub and the speakers clipping something fierce). Needless to say the problems were many, but easily remedied by Peter and his installers.

Long story short, I got wonderful customer service along with a quality, prompt and professional install. When I left their shop, I had an audio system that exceeded my expectations. I have future plans for my Tundra like a iPod controller, back-up camera, etc., and I will be returning to Mobile West to have that work done.

So I found myself in a situation where I needed a new car stereo and didn?t want to go to Car Toys. I went to CitySearch and found Mobile West. I like the fact that it was locally owned. I prefer to keep my money in the area especially with the economy the way it?s going. I called and spoke with Peter. I told him what I want and didn?t want. He recommended a JVC that was pretty simple and didn?t try to sell me something that was expensive or way more than I needed.

As it happened Peter (I think he?s actually the owner of the company) was the one who installed my stereo. The first thing I noticed was he genuinely seemed happy to have my business and he had a great attitude.

We looked at the JVC he recommended and he pointed out that I may want to go with an upgrade so I can hook up an i-pod and play that through my stereo. Again, I was surprised that he didn?t try to sell me a more expensive model.

After it was installed he took his time explaining how everything worked. Even though it was after closing time, I didn?t feel rushed.

A couple of days later my CD player suddenly stopped working. I called Peter and told him what had happened. I expected him to start troubleshooting or ask me what I did. He wanted to know how soon I could come in so he could make it right.

I came in the next day and he fixed the problem. In the process he said that he scratched my CD. I was shocked that he admitted it. He even offered to pay for the CD. That kind of honesty and integrity is, unfortunately, rare but refreshing to find.

My whole experience with Mobile West has been amazing.

I was in having some problems with an amp and deck i had received a few years ago as a gift. There was a whining sound with the accelerator.

Pete was kind enough to let one of the techs troubleshoot it for a bit, and it turned out the amp was the source of the problem. He gave me a great deal on a new deck, and amp, and i have never been happier with my sound system. They do quality work, and are dedicated to make sure you are pleased with anything you receive from them, whether it be product, service, or advice.

I will always use them for my car audio needs, and never hesitate to recommend them. You have a customer for life Pete.

I never write reviews but in this case I am going to make an exception. Mobile West was hands down the best experience I have ever had with any business in Portland, let alone car stereo/electronics. They listened to my car, listened to what I wanted and gave me options on what I could do. The system I decided on was identical in some components, superior (same manufacturer, higher grade) in most when compared to my visit to Car Toys, and yet the price was $1000 less! The installation was flawless. The sound was everything and more than expected. They took the time to make sure I knew the ins and outs of using the system (IPOD, sub, bluetooth phone, etc) and never made me feel rushed. Peter is fantastic to work with. Price, quality components, impeccable workmanship, customer service, and the personal touch is all there. See for yourself, you won't be disappointed.

I've been wanting to play my iPod over my RX-8's car's stereo since I bought the car 4 years ago, but it doesn't have an auxillery input and the dealer told me it wasn't possible. Recently, I read about a solution online that involves plugging an iPod interface into the Satellite Radio input of the existing stereo. I found Mobile West here in these reviews, and decided to give them a call. Peter answered, and as I asked my questions, it was obvious he knew exactly what I needed. Assuming that parts were going to be cheaper online, I asked him what it would cost. Amazingly, the parts were $125 (plus shipping) online and only $90 at his shop (when does that ever happen???). Another great surprise was he immediately told me he had all the parts in stock. I asked when I could come in, and he replied "when do you want to come in?" I said I had the afternoon off and could come in at 3:30pm. He said, "we'll see you then." Too cool -- Nothing is ever this easy. When I got to the shop at the pre-arranged time, Peter had me pull my car right into the garage, brought out all the parts, sat with me in the car, and showed me what everything would look like when it was done. This was really nice since this was a non-standard addition for my car, and I was afraid it might look like it. Fortunately, this was not the case. After that, Peter directed me to a local coffee shop within walking distance, said come back in an hour and it would be ready. To make a long story short, I am very pleased with the solution they recommended, the quality of the work, the customer service, and the cost was exactly what I was quoted on the phone... in fact I can't think of one thing that could have made my experience better (maybe a keg of free beer in the waiting room?). I will be recommending Mobile West to all my friends that need any kind of car audio, video, GPS, phone integration, etc. Thanks!!

I have used mobile west for car audio installs since I was 16 with my first car in 1990. They have always been great, Don is the man, and keeps up to date with all his equipment.
Many places have gone under through the years, but their family business is a model that should be respected.
For those haters, just go to their shop in person and explain your issues, they will go above and beyond to help you out.
I ho[pe for many more years of this business to continue.

For most of us, we have had mixed situations at various car audio operations. Going to Mobile West was a smart decision for me. I have been a client with this company now for a couple of years and have had only straight positive interaction, excellent service and quality products to choose from. I was told about Mobile West years ago from a friend, and they have always helped me install the used equipment I've gotten off of friends, another store, or ebay. They've always made it sound good, but what i've brought them never has satisfied me. Their installations have always been great, and if I have a problem down the road, they always take care of me. Which amazes me because it has never been 'their' equipment.
This time I finally listened to them and bought what they reccomended. WOW. All I can say is it has never sounded like this!. They told me how and why I should choose each item, and I listened. The result is one happy customer, and I'll never trust one of those damn chain stores again. Car Toys tries to sell you what makes them the most money. Mobile West sells you what sounds the best for your budget. You guys rock!

Had SAT radio installed on brand new truck. Peter was very nice but after install I found razor blades and trash in my new car. Some scratches on the dash and left it dirty all over the door sills. Then I left and found 4 screws in my cup holder and had to go back and they were the mounting screws for the head unit and forgot to put them back in. Then I left again and was going down the freeway and then I saw some molding that was taken off as well but never put back on. Luckily it did not fly off the truck as it was stuck between the windshield and hood. I want a alarm installed but I am not sure about letting them do it.

The place that I originally had my alarm installed (Sounds on Wheels) is no longer in business. The service guys at Broadway Toyota told me to see Mobile West. Even though they do not carry the brand of alarm that I have, they were able to fix my remotes that haven't been working for months. They didn't even charge me. THANKS!!!!

These guys are fantastic! I wish that every store had their attitude towards customer service. I originally went in to replace the radio and speakers in my sons' new(used) car. They set me up with a simple and basic CD player wwith iPod controlls and put in good replacement speakers for less than $400. That car sounded sooooo much better than my car, I knew we had to do mine next. I do love music and have a very nice home system and I wanted to know what they are capable of. Amazing!!!!!! I LOVE my car now. They were able to do a full system upgrade in my car, that looks stock, and that sounds as good as my Morel speakers at home. I won't say how much my home gear was, but what these guys were able to transform my car for less than 2 car payments. The last system I had done at the 'OTHER GUYS' cost more than twice as much, and didn't sound half as good. I guess knowledge and experience is alive and well at Mobile West

Mobile West is a mellow, unassuming shop in a funny location but it is the best car audio shop I have ever used. I typically go to Car Toys but never again. Mobile West has competitive prices, very fast service and (this may sound funny) a certain maturity that Car Toys lacks, with its goofy 25 year old boy clerks. A+
