i've been taking my dog to the metric location for over 2.5 years with no problems. then after a recent stay, my dog immediately displayed some very atypical behavior as soon as i brought him home (which seemed to be related to a possible injury). i then contacted the management and told them about the problem. their response was basically, "our staff never makes any mistakes and there's no way that your dog sustained an injury while in our care, or we would have written it up and told you about it." i then asked for them to arrange for an examination by a vet, and they absolutely refused to allow this repeating their assertion that their staff NEVER makes any mistakes. they absolutely refused to accept any responsibility for the possibility that something happened to my dog while in their care, period. i had to accept this since their contract is written in such away that essentially protects them from any liability whatsover. a week later i tried to make a reservation, and for the first time in 2.5+ years, they said they were full. as a business owner, i was very surprised at their complete unwillingness to even entertain the possibility that my dog may have been injured while in their care, and their arrogant assertion that their staff never makes a mistake (their words, not mine). and now rather than act as professionals and accept that there was a dissagreement, they claim to be overbooked (for the first time ever in my 2.5 years of experience with them) i think this speaks volumes about how they treat customers and totally disregard the possibility that problems might occur when dogs are in their care. very low level of integrity and service, and i wouldn't recommend them for this reason. not to mention continually increasing rates recently.

We took my older dog there, and she seemed to like it. Then, we got a new puppy & stopped taking her until he was about 6 mos old. He got very ill and even had to be hospitalized overnight. It sounds like they waited longer than they should have to call me and/or take him to the vet next door.
He has not had such an episode before or since, and he was kenneled with his 'sister' when it happened (she was freaked out that day, too). After several expensive vet bills, they could never figure out what was wrong with him...I can only think it was a coincidence (that's why I didn't just do one star, but it does seem suspicious he's never had it before or since then, which was a few mos ago). I do worry that there was some head trauma or something that they were too afraid to report, so instead we did several tox panels, and it was very traumatic for us, but luckily he is happy at home now; we just keep him in the kitchen w/ his 'sister' all day. I've heard good things about another location, but I will never go back to Taurus Metric, especially after reading the other reviews, and we are calling to get a refund.

Pros: location, older dog liked it

Cons: puppy got very sick there

I dropped off my 4 dogs for boarding at Taurus. They assured me they would all be kept in seperate kennels and away from all other dogs (they are specially trained in ring sport, and are quite reactive) but when I picked them up, 2 had kennel cough (which is understandble and forgivable) but the other two had clear puncure wonds. They charged me for all 4 kennels but clearly the dogs were not kept apart...fishy.

We had gone to the Metric location for bout 6 months for the occassional play day but mostly for vacations where we couldn't watch out lab. She's 3, loves people, dogs and playing; a wonderful dog. The last few times we went she reacted kind of funny when we were dropping her off, she wouldn't leave my side. The last visit she had her tail tucked and ran for the front door to escape with me...and this dog has always loved doggie day care in the past but obviously was freaking out. She still seemed a little amped when we picked her up too. We tried someplace new and she LOVES it - happy to go and exhausted to come home.
My guess is she spent too much time in the crate at Taurus or may be an individual there which seem highly unlikely as they have always been nice.
Anyway, my dog now can roam all day, loves the place and staff and it's cheaper too (just drive 3 more miles). Sorry to say we won't be back to Taurus but the dog knows.

For 2008, Taurus Metric has LOST its luster.

We used Taurus several times this year for week-long vacations and, each time, one of our dogs came back with an injury or were sick.

One of our dogs came back with a paw that was bitten and Taurus, despite several calls about not eating, never detected the bite and subsequent abscess. We ended up having to get vet care after the week stay and the dog needed be on antibiotics.

In another stay, we requested that our dogs be kept away from the other dogs. Two of our dogs came back vomiting for several days. We're guessing that they had access to some plants in the yard or had gotten sick from the shared yard where other sick dogs were playing. We're questioning how sanitary the conditions are at the Metric facility.

In the last stay, our 9 year old was distressed enough that she was chewing on her crate and had metal shavings in her gums according to her dentist a few days after we picked her up. To Taurus' defense, they did detect that one of the dogs had bloody stools. Now we know why.

For all of the lip service that Taurus provides on added services, we think that the level of care and monitoring is not adequate. When you drop several dogs and pay over a $1000/week for someone to watch your dogs, you don't expect these things to happen.

The bottom line is that WE ARE NOT comfortable leaving our dogs with Taurus Metric and it's time to find another dog sitter. They need more people staffing the location, they also need more qualified people there, they need to increase their sanitary procedures in the kennels and in the yard, they need to better monitor and inspect for the health of the animals in their keeping, and they need to keep MUCH better records of issues/incidents. When questioned, they were not been able to provide details or anything other than a scrap of paper regarding issues that they had sought fit to call us about long distance while we were on vacation.
