Remember Jungle Nail? That kitschy nail salon on Ventura with the stuffed tiger in the window? Well, I was devastated when it closed for business -- its windows were covered over, and the familiar stuffed tiger was nowhere to be seen. Well that closure was like a metamorphosis: Jungle Nail has been replaced, and not an ounce of that old kitsch remains. It has been transformed into an elegant, and remarkably relaxing spa setting called Body Lounge.
As a pedicure regular (I only rarely get a manicure, since I invariably destroy it within 2 days), I highly recommend this salon. The quality of the work is terrific, the prices are reasonable, the staff is friendly (but not overly solicitous -- for those who like to enjoy an hour-or-so of pampering without too much chit-chat), and the overall experience is incredibly pleasant. They even keep drinks and sweets on hand -- you never know when you might need a Diet Coke or a dose of sugary goodness! For pedicures or mani-pedi combos, clients sit in big, cushy massage/whirlpool chairs, and take my advice: the additional 10-minute massage (for an extra $10) is a must. This may be the best-kept-secret on Ventura -- but perhaps not for long.
