I love indian food and this restaurant is delicious. The naan is great and all the dishes have just the right amount of spice.

My family took me there for Mother's Day. I loved it. If you like spicy food, this is the place to go. It was buffet style with many delectable choices from entrees to dessert. It was beautifully decorated and in a nice location. Easy to find also. All the mothers received a rose. I can't speak for the others but I felt special.

And thank goodness I found India House.
The best Indian Food I have had in America (and if you count NYC, it does compare just as well with 2 places there as well!)
Their korma is wonderful, rich, alot of veggies, and spiced just right.
The kashmiri naan and the alu naan (alu means potatoes) are both perfect!!!
Paneer Tikka with some Biryani rice is a wonderful dish as well, if you are in the mood for something a bit drier.
There is such an enormous menu at India House, and I've only listed a few options. They give you an option of any spicyness you are comfortable with (mild, medium mild, medium, medium spicy, or spicy)
Of course the gulab jamun ("moon pearls") are to-die-for (dessert) as well!
Enjoy India House!!

(Update note: They no longer have sitar and tabla on Friday nights.)

Pros: Everything

Cons: They no longer offer sitar and tabla on Friday evenings, if you are looking for live entertainment.

The India House has great food. Everything is always fresh, the spices just right- the meals are filling and always have that- YUM they should have!

The staff is friendly and knowledgeable., I am at the point now that I just ask the bartender Samson to pick something for me... I am NEVER dissapointed.

If you are not sure what you like- you can try the buffet- everyday- and pick a little of everything and find out what you like. There are fun drink specials every day too.

The restaurant is nice- the bar has a very local neighborhood feel. But if you are not local- you will still feel comfortable there- and enjoy the company with the food!

Cons: Parking, meters

The staff were friendly and our order came promptly. The lamb curry was interesting and the spices tasted fresh, the side was without the usual overcooked vegetables. Tthe sitar and tabla were much better than I've heard in Indian restaurants before. A very pleasant place for a Friday night out.

First time I went to India House, i was very pleased. The service was great and food was fresh and tasty and came out hot. I met the owner, who was a very nice man and had an obvious passion to bring great tasting indian food to Minneapolis. After going once i haven't been able to stop. Anyone looking for a great, friendly, family place should go to india house.

We went to this restaurant based on a recommendation from a friend. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed. While the service was OK, the food was not. A chicken dish, where it said "tender" right in the description on the menu, was bone dry. I almost sent some of my food flying because of how much force I had to use with the knife to cut through it. We also had a lamb dish and a vegetarian dish, both of which were completely lacking in flavor and the flavor of the lamb dish wasn't even right for that dish. All during dinner we were attacked by black flies buzzing around the inside of the restaurant. To top it all off, the dishes were not cheap ($11-15 each) for this quality of food.

I'll agree with most of the other reviews - the food was excellent, plentiful, well presented and very reasonably priced. Our issue arose when our server made it perfectly obvious that he was determined to get us to leave as soon as possible. Dessert was not offered; the bill presented instead of a dessert menu. We continued to enjoy our wine after the bill was paid, and were made to suffer through the waiter looking at his watch and sighing as he walked by. Keep in mind - we know the restaurant was to close at 9.30pm - as they do every weeknight - AND there were three other tables still EATING! The watch gazing and tut-tutting happened at 9.10, and when we (hurriedly) finished our wine and walked out at 9.32 the waiter actually said "Finally!". Now, I have a well developed sense of humor, and know that often it's not what is said, but how it's said, but I am certain that this "gentleman" meant it! My recommendation would be to sample the food in a buffet fashion and with as little input from the wait-staff as possible.

My friend and I stopped by this restaurant for a late lunch a few weeks ago, and fell in love with the atmosphere and food. The buffet is amazing, and they even have goat meat! Everything was very flavorful and fresh. No bland food here. Two thumbs up from me!!! I definitely plan on going back there soon.

Based on the reviews on this site, my wife and I recently tried the lunch buffet at the New Delhi restaurant. Upon arriving, we were seated promptly and our drink orders were taken almost immediately. Then to the buffet. For an Indian restaurant, the buffet had disappointingly few vegetarian offerings (my wife and I are both vegetarians). The Saag Panir was overly sour and underspiced, and lacked any sort of interest or complexity. The vegetable curry was also bland and uninteresting and seemed to be made mostly from celery. The Aloo Gobi looked great and the potatoes and cauliflower were cooked perfectly, but the dish was essentially just potatoes, cauliflower and turmeric, with little in the way of interesting flavors. The Chana Masala (usually one of my favorites) was overly-dry and the chickpeas were underdone. And again, very bland and uninteresting. No dahls at all on the buffet and the chutneys were restaurant-supply, from-a-jar quality. The one bright spot on the menu was the desserts. The Kir was runny but otherwise excellent, and the Gulab Jamun was spectacular: not overly sweet, and with a wonderful hint of rosewater. Great service throughout the meal, but overall, the near-complete absence of aromatic spices or interesting flavors made this a very disappointing dining experience.

[An update: We tried this place again for dinner, and it was like a different restaurant. We had an absolutely excellent meal. I don't understand it: the standard restaurant ploy is to lure you in with the cheap buffet so you'll be impressed and come back for dinner. I'm glad we came back for dinner, but the buffet almost kept us away.]

I ventured out and tried "Best of India" to give a new restaurant a try. I then remembered why I love New Delhi as much as I do; their food is FAR superior to any other indian restaurant that I have experienced in the Twin Cities!

This restaurant is becoming a favorite for my girlfriend and I. The buffet is awesome! It's very clean and the service is prompt and almost always great. We have had dinner there a number of times and they have live music on the weekend, which makes it nice for a date-spot. The food is always good too. I think this is the best Indian restaurant in the area.

The restaurant was busy. The host said to wait in the bar and it would be 5 minutes. The smoke was overpowering in the bar. The host told us that we couldn't stand in the restaurant because we were in the way. We waited for 40 minutes. I went back to check, and of course the host said that it would be 5 minutes more. We waited another 30 minutes, our eyes are watering from the smoke and we can't stand it anymore. I'm not a wimp when it comes to this, as I go to smoky bars often. Right before weleft, I had words with them, and they were not at all apologetic or sympathetic. I can't believe that they actually thought it would be 5 minutes for a table when they told us that. Their food might be good, but I'm never going back to find out.

I really enjoyed the food. The portions are a bit small compared to other restaurants but sufficient nevertheless. The 'Hot' category can be quite hot especially if you are used to the milder food served in other Indian restaurants around town. I have been to most of the Indian restaurants in town and this one definitely takes the cake.

I thoroughly agree with the Minnesota Monthly Magazine (taste) that this is definitely one of the top 100 reasons to dine out in Minnesota, and worthy of the title "Best Indian Restaurant in Town" not only is the food to die for but the ambiance is too...the murals..the draperies..
This is the best in TOWN!
