I stop by here nearly every week to pick up groceries for me and my family. I come from Tuftonboro, and usually stop by with my son while my daughter is at school. My son has a blast in the store (sometimes at the expense of others) because they have at least 4 shopping cart sizes/shapes to choose from.

I usually pick up or stock up on their weekly specials. They also run a lot of promotions, most notably their 1-year anniversary celebration. I've been in the area less than a year, but I tend to prefer shopping Harvest Market and IGA over making the trip to Hannaford. It's so much easier to get in and out and on with my day doing it this way, and I'm sure I get out the door spending far less.

When reading the other reviews, I can relate to buying an expired item, although I personally have yet to run into that here. I do think it unfair the poster didn't try and rectify the problem with the store before posting a one-star review. Usually how a problem gets resolved should be a contributing factor to a review. One star for a soup is almost laughable, again because it mentions nothing about the overall quality or experience with the store...just a change in soup recipe.

As far as what one should look for in a small, home town grocery store, I think Harvest Market does an EXCELLENT job. It's always clean and spacious. Every time I'm there, stock boys/girls are constantly fixing the look of the shelves and restocking. Most of the adults there are especially friendly, and some of the young girls are very nice and outgoing as well. There's usually 2 lines open, plus the service counter and I hardly see more than one person in line in front of me. Finally, I like that the seafood and butcher's counter is separate from the deli meats counter.

Hope this helps!

I really like this market!

I like shopping locally and am so pleased that those of us who live here in the Wolfeboro area have the choice of two groceries. I go to both but much prefer the choices and the freshness of the produce at Harvest. If someone is having a conversation at the checkout, that's okay with me. It's one of the perks of living in a small town. People actually know each other and stop to say hello.

In terms of bad or expired items mentioned in another review, any grocery will gladly give a refund or an exchange. Just give them a call on the phone or bring in your receipt with the product. No retailer is perfect but Harvest fixes a problem immediately when someone tells them about it.

Harvest Market has a more spacious layout with better lighting, wider aisles and a larger produce section. Their produce and meats are quite good and the store looks clean and well-organized. I usually find weekly specials that make me and my pocketbook smile. And Tuesdays, because I am 55 or older, I get 10% off with no minimum purchase required, unlike the other grocery. The staff is friendly and helpful when I need to find something.

When you think of how inconvenient it would be to have to drive out-of-town to get our groceries,or to have only one choice of where to go in town, I feel blessed that Harvest thought that the DeVylder's Market was a good investment and is keeping such an important community service going strong. Being a former retail store owner in another seasonal resort area, I can tell you it is really tough trying to pay the overhead when the town shrinks to a much smaller population, with less disposable income, in the winter. I am happy that so many of our long-time businesses are able to survive being open year round. I encourage everyone to shop locally as much as possible, especially now with all the upheavals in our economy. Harvest Market should be commended for such a seamless change in management. The oldie but goodie recipes may have stayed the property of the previous owners but the thoughtful care which Harvest has put into the transition is pretty remarkable.

I would heartily recommend the Harvest Market to anyone.

With all of the concerns over food safety lately brought to public attention by the tragic circumstances involving contaminated peanut butter, you'd think the folks in the food business would be on their toes.

Not Harvest Market located at 36 Center Street in Wolfeboro, NH.

On Thursday, February 12, 2009 I purchased a package of Mission Brand, whole wheat burrito size tortillas. Two days later when I opened the package to prepare the planned meal the smell was horrible. Upon checking the expiration date printed on the package I discovered that the product had expired on December 16, 2008.

The tortillas had expired almost two months ago and were still in the grocery store's cooler! I know they have lots of stuff to keep track of and that sometimes things can be honestly missed. And, yes, maybe I should have checked the date at the time of purchase. But two months beyond the expiration of a food item! That's just a public danger.

I believe that this incident demonstrates poor management practice on the part of Harvest Market. The lesson is, check the food you buy very carefully.

I have always loved the broccoli soup and am always stopping in to see if it's available. I was glad to see it today...immediately I could tell that it was different...It was just ok. No way near as good as it use to be. Please bring back the old recipe.

Unlike the other reviewer, I have found that since the ownership has changed, so has the attitude. At least, of some of the staff- the school aged kids and some of the old guard are still as friendly as ever, but some folks there would rather jawbone with their buddies than help folks. I've had more than one incident there of late and would like to remind them that there are 2 grocery stores in town. Today I waited in line for minutes while the older checkout dude talked to someone he knew, only to be informed "Uhm, this line's gonna be closed for a while". Know what? Don't bother, jackass.

This store has a much better selection than it's competition. The prices are typical for this small tourist community (too high), but the help is generally friendly. Small but decent parking lot for its customer traffic; I've never had problems finding parking. The store is spacious and easy to navigate, and never crowded.
