Not a place to go regularly, but for the occasional "something different," it's certainly worth a try. Go during the week, early. You may still have to give them your phone number and head off to another bar until they call to inform you that your table is ready. There is no open seating, no standing room, no going to the bar while you wait. If tables are not currently available, you must give them your phone number and go somewhere else to wait. However, once seated, you are in an unbelievably intimate, chic atmosphere with a truly unique assortment of drinks.

If waiting in line outside a shiesty, boarded up building to get into a bar isn't your thing, don't go here or go early in the week. If the light above the door is on, they're open. The bartenders are amazing to watch and the drinks are tasty, alcoholic, and impressive (they ought to be for $12). Apparently, they also serve beer, but I'm guessing you're frowned upon if you order one. Place is very dark, with some interesting music and crazy chairs reminiscent of Alice in Wonderland, but definitely a cool spot.

I have only gone to the Violet Hour early on a week night (around 7pm) and I had a great experience. Our server Troy was extremely friendly and knowledge; he talked us through all of our drink options and even made us combinations that he thought we'd enjoy based on our general drink preferences. I can't even recall what I had but it was fantastic.

Don't let the "exclusive" aura keep you from trying out this place. At this point it's more of a gimmick than anything since the crowd is pretty lame (a lot of squares trying to impress their overly-made-up dates), but the drinks and atmosphere are so lovely that it doesn't even matter. The bartenders here truly elevate mixology to an art form. If you sit at the bar, you will also discover that they're really friendly and willing to talk about their craft even though they are usually incredibly busy. The lighting is very low and the furniture is laid out to create a sense of privacy--it's a very warm, hushed feeling although the noise level is actually about medium. Try and go early on a weekday before it gets too crowded--that way you won't have to worry about the door policy.
