My husband is a true catfish lover. We will drive miles from our home in Calera for some good catfish. After eating there I realized we should have gone to old faithful "Jim and Nicks" in Alabaster. The staff was friendly and we felt welcome when we entered the restuarant. The waitress brought out hush puppies and coleslaw after we had been seated about 5 minutes or so and she also took our orders. My husband ordered the $13.99 catfish strips which consisted of 5 small strips of fish. He ordered a side of fries and the portion was small. My husband is a big guy and for that price we were expecting larger portion than we received. The amount of fries and the plate itself was something that we would expect when ordering a child's plate. On to my meal. I ordered the grilled tilapia. It was BLAND. I sprinkled salt, pepper and lemon juice on top them smothered it with tarter sauce and it still was not good. I was also disappointed by the portion. For $13.99 all I got was one approximately 3-4oz serving of fish and a baked potato. I was indeed blown away. i asked the waitress if there were 2 fillets and she said "No, but it's a big piece of fish". I could not believe that is what was considered "big fish". Needless to say despite very nice people, you go out to eat for the food and it really isn't worth the money they are charging. The value for the dinners we paid a total of $31.48 cents for was pitiful. We might as well stayed in Alabaster at Ol' Faithful Jim N Nick's or better yet driven to Red Lobster or somewhere for a complete meal for the money we spent. Disappointed. very disappointed. Don't go there or you will be too.

My family will drive many miles for good catfish. For years we have frequented Top of the River, but NOT anymore. Only 5 minutes from us with the best catfish I have ever tasted. And hush-puppies and coleslaw that make you eat so much you feel the need to be rolled out to your car! It's a bit tricky to get there, but you can see Catfish Landing on the hill behind McDonald's in Chelsea. Do you know how to tell the place is great? You can see the crowd from the intersection down below and when you get up there it looks like a block party! That's when you know know you have to try it! The service was great! The food was the best! The prices are very reasonable and the portions are perfect! You have gotta try them! This is their website. www.catfishlanding.com

This is the best little place that I have ever eaten at. You come in to all smiles with a basket of the best hushpuppies I hear have many ingredients and fresh homemade coleslaw. We eat alot of catfish but this is by far the best I have ever EATEN! We heard about them in Gardendale, Alabama and drove more than an hour to get there. We loved it so much we do it every Thursday! Home Made Family Run!
It does not get any better than this place! Please try it!

Southern hospitality is our speciality. Come try our southern fried catfish that will melt in your mouth.Or you can have catfish fillets grilled or blackened with our special rubs. We have been told our slaw and puppies are the very best anywhere. Try our boiled shrimp, golden fried fantail shrimp, or mini calabash shrimp. We are also proud of our fried gulf oysters. Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. If seafood isn't your thing, we offer fried chicken tenders we cut ourselves, and hamburger steaks smothered in onions, fresh mushrooms and brown gravy. We make our own peach cobbler (I mean REAL cobbler) and top it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. We also offer a wide selection of wines as well as cold ice tea and soda and ice cold beer served in a frozen glass. We want your dining experience with us to be an outstanding event. Give us a go next time you ride through beautiful Chelsea, Al. We're high up on the hill behind MacDonalds.
