I find myself on these review sites and love to use them as a guide to where I go. So I read the mixed reviews about the Blue Ribbon and there was enough positive to make me try it out. I am sure glad I did! The place is beautiful! They said they have been open for 5 years and the place looks brand new. My wife and I decided to sit at the bar for a drink before having dinner. I was in heaven staring at the 8 different taps they had for beer selection! I had the IPA they had it was so crisp and so fresh. Coldest beer I have had in a long time. My wife who is a bit more picky then I am decided to have a Martini. Grey Goose and dirty how she drinks that I'll never know...but when it came to here it was huge. The bartender told us that they use a 8 oz martini glass instead of a 5 or 6 oz glass like most places. I was worried when the check came but it was less then $9 for that thing! Yay for my wallet! My wife loved the Martini and her 3 olives! When we decided to sit and have dinner not only did we get sat right away but the bartender offered to carry my wifes martini to the table. Who does that anymore?? We sat at a table that overlooked the lake they have out back it was frozen but awesome to look at all the same. The place was busy but our waiter was right there ready to serve. He read us the specials of the night and offered to refresh our drinks, which I did, another ice cold beer, my wife was still working on her martini. The waiter returned and we had decided to share an order of tempura chicken for an app. I order the ribs full rack and my wife ordered one of the specials, they called it a seafood combo or medley. The tempura chicken was out of this world! We both had the cream of seafood chowder which came with the meal and was fantastic. When the entrees arrived I think my jaw hit the table. The rack of ribs were huge hanging off the plate, the baked potato was steaming, and there was a huge chunk of moist cornbread on the plate. My wife's dish was a huge bowl of linguini tossed in a lite wine and garlic sauce loaded with shrimp, scallops, lump crabmeat, roasted red peppers and roasted garlic. We feasted like kings! After stealing a couple of her scallops we both had to wrap up what was left on the plate, not that there was alot but you always have to leave room for dessert. And boy were we glad. I may have had the best cheesecake I have ever eaten. It was definately the largest piece I have ever seen. I thought it was a joke at first but the waiter said that all the deserts are big. I know this to be true when I saw my wife's brownie sunday sitting in front of her. Let me say we left extremely full and extremely happy! We discovered a gold mine! I cant wait to come back to watch some football with all the big screen tv's! I saw that they had specials during the game $2 draft beers and $ .25 wings there was more but I cant remember! I hope this helps anyone who reads this. We had a blast! I'm sure you will too!!

The place looks nice, and the view of the lake is pretty. But the food is substandard. I had the seafood special ($22) and it was one of the blandest dishes I'd ever eaten. And it's overpriced. Sports bar atmosphere and black tie prices. $9 for a martini? I won't go back and I wouldn't recommend it. Staff was friendly, but we were turned off by the nose pierciings.

My family and I had the best dining experience at the Blue Ribbon restaurant. The food was excellent, the portions were huge and the service was great. I cannot wait to go back for the delicious Blue Ribbon chicken and Sangria! The tiki bar is so unique and a great place to meet friends! Highly recommended!!!!!

Blue Ribbon this was my first time going there the food and service was OK. It??s not my favorite restaurant to have lunch or dinner. And in this rough economic recession, people are faced with scarcity and must make a choice on what they purchase with limited funds.
Jumbo land Diner further-up the road has better food and is not Blue-Ribbon fancy priced. I actually enjoyed the bar I am not a food pro.
What next? Blue Ribbon competes with Jumboland Diner?
Consider making your chicken wings or grilling them at home.
You know the economy is really bad when Starbucks decides to compete with McDonalds. McDonalds has already decided to take on Starbucks pricey coffee drinks by creating some of its own at a lesser price. Now Starbucks is competing with a breakfast package for $3.95 which includes a latte and oatmeal or coffee cake OR a coffee and breakfast sandwich.
Suddenly I??m hungry!

I went here once with a friend and the only reason I haven't been back is because it's a pain to pull in and out of their parking lot (that's 206 for you). However, the food I had was great but I thought it was a tad over priced. Perhaps I'll go back some day, but for everyone else it's worth trying at least once.

I would like to start out by saying i had a great time at the BLUE RIBBON the other night. The moment we walked in the door we were greated with a smile and prompt service. The meal was great and the service was outstanding. So i came on this sight to write a review and i noticed a review written by kittyvon which i thought was humorous. First of all they all must live in upstate NY because beer and alcohol prices are outrageous in the city and he was comparing Blue Ribbon as being expensive. Their is something wrong when a person hat is more expensive than someones outfit and these same people think drinks are expensive at the Blue Ribbon. Also there are two huge parking lots on both sides of the building why would a bouncer have someone park in front. Last but not least on fridays there is a no hat policy every other day you can were a hat. It seems like these people should stay in the city because they are to high class for the country.

In Sussex County, every last good place has closed to the new franchising industry breaking into our area. But, the Blue Ribbon has made a mark in the restaurant industry! They do not compare themselves to any business and uniquely stand alone & offer a variety of foods with a very generous portion and fair pricing!
We started with the munch bucket sampler and for $9.95 four of us feasted! The presentation came in an edible bucket. We also got 2 dozen steamers and I can honestly say they were piping hot and some of the biggest clams ever eaten. The server was accomodating to bringing us bread, and refreshing our drinks, to making sure our every need was met. Our soup came next, and it was gourmet with chunks of seafood in every bite, (seafood chowder). Our salads were delicious and by this time we didn't know where we were going to put our main entree! We were astonished by the portion sizes and ate as much as we could and took the rest of the meal home! In all my eating years I still talk about the size of the Chicken Parm that was presented to us! We finished with some after dinner drinks and will definately return to try some of the wonderful desserts that passed by us! We were checked upon several times by the owner, his wife, his sister and the manager! Each making sure everything was up to par! This is a real friendly atmoshere and we did not feel rushed at all and cannot wait to return again! Thank goodness for bringing a little bit of the city to us here in Sussex County without having to commute and pay high city prices!

Pros: The decor, the patio and the boardwalk where they dock boats.

Cons: Couldn't fit dessert in at the end! Must return to try it!!!!!

Where should I begin... We went to this atrocity of a bar on a saturday night. A group of 4 midthirties New Yorkers. Two men, two women. We were dressed appropriate for a nice dinner because we were coming from Restaurant La Tour.
This is how it starts. My friend is trying to park his SUV in front of Blue Ribbon when one of the bouncers come over and suggest him that he should park his car upfront. So my friend gets back in the car and parks it as suggested. We come to the door. And another bouncer tells my friend to take his "f'ing hat" (his words not mine) off. Or we will not be admitted. Mind you my friend is wearing a very stylish hat (he is in the fashion industry) that costs more than most people's entire outfits! The bouncer tells us "this is a New York club. SO you take your hat off" (Yes. You tarzan me jane and excuse me but we are in New Jersey not New York) Then the owner comes over and tells us to move our car. Geeze, your bouncer told us to park there! So we move the car again because the owner's lady friend always parks there. Then the bouncer comes back over and starts verbally harassing my friend about his hat. At this point the hat is just sitting quietly on the bar next to our ontouched drinks. So you see where this is going. And all this time we complied quietly. So we just left, leaving our untouched drinks and a huge tip on the bar. Not to mention the bad taste in our mouths. All in all: The owner and the bouncers treat customers very poorly. In the hospitality industry, it should be priority to keep your clients satisfied not to keep them perpetually harassed. Over-priced drinks, an uncalled for New York wannabe attitude in the middle of New Jersey farmlands and a cocky management team just about sums up this otherwise nicely constructed restaurant/bar. The architecture is ok. On another note, there were a LOT OF Abercrombie-clad young ones at the bar, that really made us feel like teachers at the school dance. What's up with that?

Pros: The building looks nice from outside

Cons: Too many very young people. I mean YOUNG!

Blue Ribbon is the perfect place to be if you like delicious food at very reasonable prices. We go faithfully every week. Kid- friendly and great service. Last, but not least the unique outside dining is rare to find in Sussex County.

Pros: Outstanding service , delicious food

.

Had the assortment of appetizers, delish!
Ordered the filet stuffed with crabmeat and shrimp. Very tasty. Crabmeat was creamy and light, shrimp was done to perfection.
Being from NY and going to very pricey places, this was a nice find. Prices are average, the service was good, the food delicious....check it out. You will not be disappointed.

Tried 2x in the last year with the same result. Overcooked, dry burger the first time and an over cooked dry steak the second. Pretty bad when a so called "steakhouse" gives you well done food when you order medium rare. Also the drink and food prices are a little steep.Manager/owner could care less if the customer is satisfied. There are far better places in the area, don't waste your time at this dud.
