STAY AWAY! FARRRRR AWAY! DR. HAWKINS DOESN'T SEEM TOO BAD AT FIRST. THEN, YOU MEET HIS STAFF AND THINGS START GETTING VERY BAD, VERY VERY QUICKLY.

I am not new to depression/anxiety and take very standard meds (non controlled, well-known) to keep my conditions under control....I'm basically a very very easy/low maintenance psych patient. I've been stable for years on these meds, and only sought out a new psych because of an insurance change. That alone would have been enough to make my radar go off after the 2nd visit, when his NP wrote my prescription for a dose that doesn't even exist!! I tried to kindly ask her to verify that the med was available in that dose (my way of having her look up the medication and correcting an error NO ONE in psychiatry would EVER make.) I watched her open the PDR, look up the medication (or pretend to) and then tell me "yes, this is correct."
Again, been on this med for over 10 years .... and P.S.... I work in healthcare myself. I took the Rx to my pharmacy and both pharmacists could barely keep a straight face when they saw the Rx. They called the office to speak with the NP (per usual pharmacist/prescriber protocol) and I was able to fill my Rx for the proper dose later that day. My pharm. and I joked a bit about how bizarre the mistake was, and how lucky I was to be "sane enough" to know just how crazy it was of a mistake, but LITTLE DID I KNOW......
The following month, I made CERTAIN that I saw Dr. Hawkins ONLY - no NP. I did not alert him to her error (mostly out of my own kindness and a building sense of things not being "right" in that office.) Things felt "slimy"...uncomfortable....tense, and he was acting very uneasy. It was just better to get out of there ASAP. A few very shady things took place via communication with his office which I will not detail to protect my own anonymity. Years later, I learned just how "LITTLE I KNEW" back when my RX was written incorrectly..... the NP's mistake wasn't so "bizarre" after all. SHE'S NOT EVEN LICENSED TO PRACTICE IN THE FIELD OF PSYCHIATRY!! HER LICENSE IS LIMITED TO GERONTOLOGY, ....which is care of the elderly. (Like, WAY old.) Typically, that specialization doesn't even manage meds AT ALL because by age 70, meds are managed by Primary Care Doctor, Cardiologist, Neurologists, Orthos, occasionally pain management. NEEDLESS TO SAY, THERE ARE SEVERAL COMPLAINTS THAT HAVE BEEN FILED AGAINST HER, BY PATIENTS AND PHARMACISTS ALIKE. WHY? BECAUSE SHE IS PUTTING PATIENTS AT RISK .... and Dr. Hawkins is liable for employing her as well. I'm disgusted by such abuse of power; they both are no different than other predators....they select prey carefully....choosing groups that are both depend on them and who they see as mentally weak, therefore easy to manipulate. They ALSO are no different than other predators in that they begin to believe they are protected from ever being "found out" or "caught" because their power/status is more influential than it actually IS, AND that their prey lack any and all credibility. (that no one would ever believe a person who had "mental health issues") So, they get lazy, and greedy. Nothing happens for years and years of wrongdoing, so they do more, and are less careful.... And, that's how they get caught....EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.

Very unprofessional and ill-mannered front office staff. At my request, I only see Dr. Hawkins. Unfortunately, at each scheduled visit the wait is ALWAYS no less than 45 - 60 minutes past the appointed time. Additionally, there have been numerous occasions when my regular follow-up appointments have been re-scheduled and later re/rescheduled to accommodate the Dr. Hawkins' outside business activities or vacation plans. However, when I attempted to cancel an appointment (due to a severe migraine attack), then reschedule a re/re-scheduled appointment, I was informed by a very "rude & ill-tempered" clerical staff member that I would be charged a $45.00 "same-day cancellation fee" since I failed to give 24 hour advance notice. Notwithstanding the fact that I reminded her that I had been re/rescheduled to accommodate the Dr. Hawkins' plans, she insisted that it was their policy and I would be charged the fee regardless the reason. THESE PEOPLE DO NOT CARE >>> they are just "IN TO WIN IT"... GET PAID!!! While Dr. Hawkins (himself), when he does see you will listen attentively (or at least he as least he's learned to give that impression) for only a very brief few moments before offering to change/renew/add/modify prescription medications. Hardly seems worth the extremely long time spent waiting in the overly confining small waiting room, inappropriate Muzak (Background Music for Business), and NON-PRIVACY area of "Patient Service" at the front desk. After more than a year of very frustrating "customer non-service", mismanaged M/H wellness care, numerous failures to contact my preferred pharmacy with Rx refills authorizations, and the other previously stated issues, I have requested my records and transferring my care to another MH provider. If that weren't already enough, they are now requesting an additional $50.00 to provide ME a copy of MY personal medical records. Well... ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!!

Scheduled an appointment with Dr. Hawkins in an attempt to get back onto my Adderall prescription. Was last on it during highschool, and as i am having trouble in college at the moment i figured now would be an appropriate time to get back on.

but Dr. Hawkins wouldn't even see me. (found this out after i payed the $250 for the office visit without insurance) instead of seeing dr. hawkins i saw his nurse or w.e she is. and that was after the made me give a urine sample?? seriously??

so i tell the nurse the problems im having, the reasons i would like to get back onto my adderall prescription and she says that i need to go see her other doctor friend and pay for 3 individual ADD tests ($120 each, + office visit) because "too many people are trying to abuse prescription medications..."

so basically i payed $250 (that i really couldnt even afford to spend in the first place) for an office visit with someone that isnt even a psyciatrist... nor even attempted to figure out what kind of problems i might be having... and then a referal to another doctor...

complete waste of time and money. im not upset about not getting the prescription, because i will get that anyways. im upset however that so little care and concern is put into this practice and how quick they are to refer people to their other doctor friends. trying to spread the wealth. complete b/s

The waiting area is extremely small and downright suffocating with no privacy whatsoever. The waiting chairs are next to the front desk so that there can be no privacy. Those waiting will hear everything. Dr saw my son but I felt he did not care in any way. I was left with the feeling that he was just happy to write a prescription and send us on our way asap. Waiting times are beyond ridiculous. I would never return to this office, never.

It great that you are getting help but pills cannot heal a spiritual problem. I have been helping those who hear voices for 4 years and all are cured without pills. Voices are demons. I have never taken any payment. Nor do I ask. Do yourself a favor and realize forgiving does not mean reconciling or talking the "them" again. Its "their" problem - those who hurt you. There are no chemical imbalances found to date.
I use yahoo messenger id Ken_ben223. No fees

I heard a lot of wonderful things about this psychiatrist and have had horrible experiences in the past in the Arlington-FW area. Other psychiatrists either didn't listen, were cold, not educated or comfortable with newer medications or had horrible staff. I must admit after reading a few reviews lately I was torn. After deciding to give him a chance he was great!! He was very polite, informative, knowledgable and easy to talk to! HE doesn't make you feel like a 'psych patient' He talk to you like a person who happens to need the professional expertise of a psychiatrist! He even ordered some fancy DNA test to see which meds would be best for my liver! Amazing and light years ahead of ANY psychiatrist I ever saw. He has counselors there to see you, and even a chiropractor who has done wonders on my sciatica! After only 2 visits I already feel better than I have in 20 years.

This is the worst clinic I have ever had the opportunity to visit. The first appt actually went well. But after that, there was a problem involved ever since. Starting with my insurance. He prescriped me a Rx that was very expensive to me, only because it took his staff almost 2 months to get the pre-auth. And for once, it was not on the insurances end. When I called, I was never able to speak to anyone. Always leaving a message that was never returned, sometimes leaving several messages a day. There was no shows from the Doctor, the staff wouldnt even call to reschedule. The office took my $30.00 copay for a phone consult appt that didnt happen. I called the office to ask what the problem was, they informed me at 4:45 that the doctor was sick. This place is unorganized, the staff is condescending, uncaring, lazy. It starts at the top and dribbles all the way down to the staff. Furthermore, I just recieved a message from his office needing my new insurance company information, probably to bill me for a no call no show appt, even though they have done that to me. Stay far away because if you are in need of a Psychiatrist, then there is some possible mental problems you are going through, and they will only aggravate the situation. You do not need any further issues.

What a horrible doctor. Seriously. As a new patient, I filled out all the paper work. I filled out a paper telling my symptoms. Among them, self harm, self harm thoughts and suicidal thoughts as well as my hallucinations and paranoia and such. When I finally was able to see him, we talked for about 10 minutes. All he asked me about was my "voices" and paranoia. Nothing about my visual hallucinations, nothing about my self harm, nothing about my suicidal thoughts, nothing at all pretty much. And I'm pretty sure by law he is supposed to make sure I'm not a "danger" to myself. Which he didn't do. At all. All these reviews saying how caring he is I find VERY hard to believe. He probably wrote them all himself.

So basically he just asked me about two tiny things and then sent me on my way with some medicine that I've never ever heard of. Which on the website says, and I quote, "Deciding to look at alternate medications is something your doctor may do. They need to consider that Fanapt may change your heart rhythm (meaning there is more time between heartbeats). When taking other drugs that may cause this same change in heart rhythm, you are at a higher risk of a serious, even life-threatening medical issue (torsade de pointes), which may result in sudden death. In many cases, your doctor may prescribe another medication like Fanapt first. "

In many cases your doctor pay prescribe another medication like this first. And did he? Nope. I'm never going back to this doctor.

I have been to many psychiatrists and therapists over many years and had just about given up. Until I heard about Dr. Hawkins. A friend of mine told me "You HAVE to see the doctor. He is a dying breed!" When I met him I knew exactly what she meant. He actually CARES and listens to what you have to say. Didn't just give a script and push me out the door. My anxiety has kept me home bound over the last 2 years. I would only leave to got my doctors appointments and get groceries. I would only go late night to avoid the crowds. I also have had major self esteem problems. Dr. Hawkins helped me with all of these problems. He is surprisingly comprehensive . We even talked about my weight and sleep problems. I have been trying to get my MD to order a sleep study for years and Dr. Hawkins after thoroughly interviewing saw the need to get a study and ordered one! WOW! It's been only three weeks since I saw Dr. Hawkins and I already feel tons better. Like a new me. This guy is good! Very impressive. I was even late to my appointment but he never made me feel rushed. For this too I was very grateful. My 16 year old is seeing him next month too!
Thanks Dr Hawkins

I made an appointment with Dr. Hawkins but was not seen by Doctor Hawkins but instead his 7 foot tall, condescending, unbearably rude female nurse practitioner. To be fair I was 15 minutes late for my appointment, but I had my infant son with me and I called ahead to warn the staff and ask if it was still ok to come in and was told it was fine. When I entered the office I was severely scolded by the office staff for my tardiness that they had just said over the phone wasn't an issue and that was all the nurse practitioner seemed to want to talk about- how it wasn't ok, I messed up her schedule, having a child who was not cooperating was no excuse- this is all after I told her I was sorry and it would not happen again. When I asked her if my recent mood problems may have anything to do with the fact I have the Mirena installed and the hormones may be interfering with my medication or exacerbating my previous mental issues to which she responded she had no clue and I should ask my OBGYN( if she was a medically trained doctor she would have known the answer to my question and I have NEVER seen a nurse practitioner on a first time psychiatric appointment for a comprehensive psychiatric screening and have seen many doctors.) and when I told her it was a mental not physical question so my OBGYN had told me it would be most wise to consult with a psychiatrist she had no reply. She saw me for all of 7 minutes, did not offer me any advice or bother to refill my prescriptions and if it wasn't my husband's birthday she would have ruined my day. I am returning to the office on Monday only to see the actual doctor and complain that he has such people representing him.

Dr. Hawkins' care was beyond my expectations! He was very kind, attentive, patient and helpful. I was under a lot of stress with my employer and thought I was going to have to retire early. He gave me hope, insight and fought for my short term disability. I couldn't function, concentrate or sleep I was so overwhelmed. Dr. Hawkins wrote a few prescriptions, ordered additional testing and referred me to his medical paraprofessional who helped my migraines and weight gain! His care is very comprehensive and light years ahead of any other doctor (not just psychiatrist) I have ever seen! You won't find a better MD who is more competent, sincere (without arrogance) and who will get results fast. He even diagnosed and treated my sleep apnea! His work ethic seems tireless. He sees a lot of patients and you'll most likely hear them sing praises about him in the waiting room.

Dr.Hawkins truly is an active listener & he really is a rare breed when it comes to dealing with people on a level of authentic respect, courtesy, compassion, & helpfulness. He has gone out of his comfort zone to aid me in preparing reports, & writing out manual prescriptions one at a time, even though his system is automated. I know that this is a burden & encroaches on his time management; however he does it ungrudgingly. Psychiatrists of the past have not been accomodating in this regard & have emphatically refused to even consider it.

Dr. Hawkins obliges because he understands that this helps me to take each prescription to a different pharmacy so that I can cash in for food coupons. In addition, Dr. Hawkins has alleviated the costs I incur for reports, by allowing me to circumvent paying for add'l reports by putting in a current date on an old report when it has been feasible & acceptable by the entity requesting it.

He is a gem in his profession & the best I have dealt with since 1999. He is what I would term a psychiatrist "unusual.

Dr Hawkins takes the time to understand what is going on before he makes a diagnosis. In my case, he even consulted with a second doctor before prescribing medication. Warm, caring and understanding, Dr Hawkins is a good choice for someone who needs a doctor that will take the time to listen to their problems and concerns.

The first time I saw Dr. Hawkins I was a mess. I was one step from going into a inpatient program. No one was able to help me. Very few psychiatrists accept my insurance. I was lucky and I was able to see him after I explained my situation to his staff. (He was busy, but I was in crisis and he was sympathetic)

He took the time to actually listen to me. He wanted to address all my problems. He stressed that I also needed therapy and that medication isn't a cure all. I have been on tons of different medications. Nothing seemed to work. After looking at the entire picture (and telling me to be completely honest and not hide anything) he placed me on some meds, I was able to see one of the therapists that same day, and I must say I feel so lucky to find him.

He really really cares. He listens. He doesn't just give out meds, He wants to address your issues, and most doctors just don't these days.

Dr. Hawkins is caring, knowledgeable, compassionate, and I am so very glad that he is my psychiatrist. You won't be sorry if you visit him.

"Warm, inviting, comfortable, serene, confident with a feeling of caring that wrapped around me as I entered his office. Dr Hawkins' personal attentiveness in unparalleled and I had no doubt that my case was taken to heart. On my second visit I found myself emotional in describing the gratitude I had for finding his office. Never before had I had a doctor truly understand and cared about what I was experiencing"

I heard so many great things about this doctor and had to see him. Dr. Hawkins is a very caring and considerate doctor. He always gives me samples ans even coupons to help me as a single mother of 4. He listens and asks questions and you can tell he takes his profession very seriously. He goes the extra mile to see that you get better! His staff is not a good example what caliber of dr. he truly is!

Dr. Hawkins has been a breathe of fresh air for me and my psychiatric illness! He ACTUALLY listens! He didnt just tell me what to take he asked what my concerns were and told me upfront side effects. Unlike other psych doctors who just give you whatever and the see there nurse every month. I have never felt better in my twenty years of fighting manic depression! I would refer my mom, my best friend and my child to him! Seeing Dr Hawkins puts you in good hands

Dr Hawkins is by far the most compassionate, caring , professional and knowledgeable psychiatrist I have seen since moving here 3 years ago. I was so worried I would nt find another good doctor after moving here but after hearing s many good things about Dr. Hawkins I decided to make an appointment. Wow! This guy is impressive. After just 7 days he changed my medications and I haven't felt this good in 20 years! Ever since then he always listens, show he cares and goes the extra mile! In the waiting room you will more than likely even hear his patients say good things about him. He has a busy practice but I never feel like I am just another number on the assembly line. I even sent my co worker to him and she is doing great too. I could on and on but just know that Dr. Hawkins is a psychiatrist who truly cares and WANTS you to get better!

Dr Hawkins is an attentive listener. He asks questions and is genuinely concerned for the welfare of his patients! My son is doing much better with his studies now. I would recommend him to anyone!

Dr Hawkins has not only helped me get better emotionally but he listened to my concerns and ideas about my treatment plan. My family and I are eternally grateful to Dr. Hawkins and his practice!

Dr. Hawkins listened to my issues and my goals. He helped me consider a probable cause hindering me from reaching my goal. Together we explored which medications would create the greatest success! I appreciate that he listened to and validated my observations and made prescriptive adjustments based on that. A successful collaboration; I feel like the "real me" is alive all the time now!

I recently started seeing Dr. Hawkins after I was unemployed. I couldn't seem to concentrate and focus. I went to several MD's and specialists to have every test under the sun run but all they could tell me is that I look healthy. I was at my wits end and very frustrated when I did a search online and came across Dr. Hawkins website. The very first appt. the Dr spent the whole time just finding out about me as a person and the symptoms I was feeling. He told me his diagnosis and put me on two medicines. Within a week I felt better than I ever have in my life. I've found a new job and couldn't be happier. Thanks Dr. Hawkins! John in Arlington

Dr. Hawkins is very professional and nice. He discusses options with you unlike alot of docs who just tell you and hand over a prescription. Really like the guy. My wife will be seeing him soon too.
