Laiola is a great restaurant in the Marina for dinner!

by Jennifer M. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 957

I had dinner with my little sister here. It's a bit pricey, but as the review below mentioned, the service is terrific. Since we'd never been here before, we just asked the staff for recommendations. We weren't too hungry, so we just got a couple of things to share. Everything we ordered was delicious.

They also have outdoor seating, so it's a great destination for those rare warm city nights!

On the night we went here it was very crowded and we found the service to be lacking. It might have been a night where they were understaffed. Took forever to take our order and get our food. When the food did finally come we realized pickled halibut is something we will never order again.

Laoila is a Fun date restaurant, excellent Tapas, red wine & service

by Eric P. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 1,482

My wife and I tried out Laiola for the first time last night and loved it. Totally bustline scene on Chestnut, really great tasting Tapas, awesome Spanish wine (wines by the glass actually come in a mini-decanter which is 1/3rd of a bottle!) - so it's really fun to get two "glasses" and try out the fabulous spanish reds they have. What really set Laiola apart was the service. The partners behind the restaurant will likely wait on you. Super friendly, total lack of attitude other than enthusiasm for what they are doing - and real depth of knowledge on the menu. Let them coach you on what to order and you'll have a great time. Definitely a noisy place - kind of have to yell to be heard - but lot's of fun. Menu standouts include chickpea croquettes, bacon-wrapped medjool dates (what's not to like about bacon wrapped around something sweet?), calamari (not your typical calamari dish) - and for dessert the pan con chocolate (also very unusual).
