This place is bar-none the poorest karaoke service and song selection in the Chicago area. The regulars say what they may in reviews as they sing repeatedly treating new singers to a hours long wait! If you can find a song in their vast collection comprised of about 1% of available songs you can expect the smug look from a host who enjoys shafting new singers so much that they have a huge posted complaint hotline poster right next to her station! I have never seen anything like that! I recommend that patrons write the complaint hotline number down before you sit down.

OK, so Louie's is a neighborhood karaoke bar in Wicker Park. I wish that I didn't ... but I LOVE THIS PLACE! Everything here, at first glance, is wrong. They only accept cash, the atm is only working 1/2 of the time, and at the end of the night, the mic is constantly over run by booze laden, glossy eyed f@#k-wits who think that screaming the song "Friends in Low Places" about a mile and a half out of tune is some how kin to a mating ritual.
However, at second glance, the staff Mel, Erin, Hawk, Abe, etc are phenomenal, and really great to talk to. The wait to sing isn't that long at all usually. There is always a decent beer on special ( or at least PBR), and what's more interesting is that a lot of the regulars, can ACTUALLY SING!!!! I've never been to a karaoke bar that didn't scare my inner ear into my duodenum before. So, that was nice.
I definitely say take a week night some time with a hand full of friends and head to Louies and party like it's Saturday. Then play hooky from work. Then rob a 7 11....ok ... just the first two things, then.

The new karaoke system is great, and Erin is a brilliant host (ask her to sing Heartbreaker. Trust me.) The liquor selection is not amazing, but they have really cheap beer specials. If karaoke's your thing, Louie's is a good place to go. Oh, and random - free popcorn.

I think this place is THE BEST karaoke spot in Chicago! I've been hanging out at this place ever since I stumbled across it when I first moved here. Awesome crowd- yes, it's busy on Fri and Saturdays- but that is what makes it fun! The more rowdy the crowds get, the more fun it is, becuase let's face it- we all want an audience! The DJ's are all powerhouse singers too- I asked, and they are required by the owner to sing throughout the night in order to "keep the party going." Sometimes people pick a lot of slow songs, and the DJ's have to jump in there and kick things up a notch. One reviewer here got all hot and bothered about that, which is stupid, because if you're there to have fun, then you will rock out with the DJs! The DJ on Saturday and the doorman sing together and totally bring the house down! Tipping does help you move your song along, but hey- that's life. pay to play. These DJ's work hard for their money... Sometimes I get to sing more than others. It just depends on the night, and how many requests are in. Regardless, it's always a party. You just have to be patient on weekends and wait your turn like everyone else...get there early and turn in all your songs, so the DJ can space them out throughout the night. Oh-and being nice to the DJ's helps too. Oh- and you can order-in food from anywhere. My fav is ordering Piece Pizza down the street and bringing it in. Tues Wednesdays are great low key nights to chill and sing for a smaller crowd. You get to sing more on these nights, plus they have a $1 schlitz, so you can get wasted on ten bucks. It is the "Place Where Friends Meet!"

Pros: So Fun! cheap beer, singing DJ's

Cons: cash only

Apparently this is a popular spot, and apparently people enjoy terrible karaoke more than I do. The place is tiny and probably crowded and the only time I was there they didn't have much of a selection of beer on tap. Go somewhere else.

Ever since I first moved to Chicago, I've been frequenting what I at first thought was just a hole in the wall. The jovial atmosphere and wide range of singing talent never ceases to amuse. It is pretty crowded on weekends, understandably, but if you're patient (and friendly helps) you'll get to sing your song--as long as you submit it early enough. For the karaoke shy, come on a Tuesday or Wednesday and sing for an intimate friendly crowd that is always sure to applaud.

Pros: Happy, Fun songs, Singing DJs

Cons: Crowded on weekends

They've got a new karaoke player. There are about 2500 songs to choose from. They have 3 wireless microphones which is a great plus. Excellent selection of songs. You can walk around the bar or dance as you sing. There are also new plasma televisions to watch your favorite sports teams.

You can sing a lot on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Sunday and early Friday or Saturday starting at 9pm sharp. After midnight on Saturday you will likely sing if you attach a tip with each request...because if you don't someone else will! On weekends money talks.

There is no food available there except popcorn. So, eat somewhere else first.

You will see some funny and interesting characters singing there. And, you can use the small dance floor to dance around with your friends as you sing. You can also sing at your table with the three available wireless microphones.

Some reviews on here were done on a busy Saturday which I admit can be somewhat difficult to get the chance to sing your song. But let me tell you once you get your song up you will be singing it proud and loud with a friendly crown that will never find your song oversang or your singing below par. To those people that find it crowded, what do you expect on a Saturday night?? If there weren't any crowds people would complain even more. Hey it's a Saturday, it's a day to be social! If you do want to experience your song after your song Karaoke, try going on a Tuesday night or Thursday night or just go to another Karaoke bar and sing to yourself.

Since I live near Louie's I figured I'd stop by for a Saturday evening of karaoke with friends. We showed up when the bar was lively but not too crowded. I was surprised to learn the bar did not take credit cards. We arrived at 11 pm and put a few songs in. At 2 am they were pushing us rudely out of the back room and we STILL had not been allowed to sing one song while the karaoke DJ let the same group of people control the microphone all night. By closing the same people controlled the mic. The DJ didn't care and it was a complete disappointment. Too much favoritism.

The sign outside says this is a place "where friends meet." Guess that's true because you have to be in the KJ's inner circle of friends to get a chance to sing. We got there around 11:30 pm. Between the four of us, we didn't get a chance to sing once before closing at 2:30 am -- after blowing lots of $$$ on drinks and tips. Yet a few other people got to sing several times during that time span. Even the KJ sang twice herself. WTF?

Maybe she didn't like our songs, because we didn't pick stuff that should be outlawed at karaoke bars like New York New York, and I Got You Babe.

We were really tempted to go back and get our tips. But it wouldn't have been satisfying because she couldn't see us take it while she was busy singing again.
