i went in before they opened just needing a drink of water. i saw the Chef eating a beautiful ham sandwich from the hams he makes and i just had to ask if he mind if i tasted it. OMGordon, he makes the country cured hams himself, he made me one, i had a saison dupont beer with my sandwich only to find out he doesn't have it on the menu. wow, it really was good but later i found out he has it all over the menu so i stayed till opening and had his ham and rice, a take on risotto meets hoping john. this guy is good. the place rocks and i highly recommend it. We just got home from Stove in Portsmouth. I had to use my GPS to find it. It's tucked away on Detroit Street. It was deeelicious! We had the Fried Oyster appetizer and the Scallop appetizer. Enough for the 4 of us to split. We each had our own entree; 2 rockfish, 1 tuna, and 1 NY strip. Everyone was pleased. My mom and sister wish the fish was a little more pan seared but loved it. Mine was awesome, my sister in law had enough to take home. We had three desserts; Lemon, Chocolate and Strawberry. I wish I remembered their exact names but they were sooo good. We had water, 3 glasses of wine and 2 coffees. All this came to about $191.00. About what I would expect for this level of food. It was unique, fantastically flavorful and excellent portions. The restaurant was cozy. There is a small bar attached if you just wanted to grab drinks and an app. When we left it was busy in the bar but we never heard anyone during dinner. We'll definitely go back!

Message from Stove

Come on in. It's very quaint, almost romantic with only 10 tables. The cougar lounge has only 8 seats at the bar and one banqette that holds four so very fun and special.
