I have some experience with Northpoint Church from when I lived in Atlanta around 10 years ago. I have a ministry background as well. I recently moved back to Atl to be near my family. Long story short... I came out about a year ago and have been looking for a place to worship. Buckhead was my first try and I was very nervous. However, the message... from the series Christian (week 5)... absolutely blew me out of the water. FWIW... they are NOT anti-gay. VERY far from it. You need to watch the message to understand. I was amazed as I worshiped with 8-10 other gay folk in the middle of the church. It was quite an experience!

Buckhead Church is part of a huge entity of churches. Nothing is wrong with that if the intentions of the church are pure. My experience with this church was not exactly a good one. I have a problem with a church that has no set programs to help their own congregation or those in the community in need of assistance when they fall on hard times. Regardless of how much you have it happens to everyone. I could not give my all to a church that I know would not be there for me if something unfortunate was to happen. Before anyone criticizes my statements I was told by a staff member that there are no resources or programs for financial hardship situations. They just refer you to community organizations. That alone is enough for me to know that this is not a church I want to be a part of. Loud concert worship is not the focal point of serving God. Serving God is helping and loving those in need with God's love. It seems that people of Buckhead Church feel a sense of entitlement. They feel like you bring all of your problems on yourself. That's not true. Anything can happen to anyone. Also, how can you have an issue with democrats? What is that about. Do you really think that God cares about your political preference? No church should be judgmental. God doesn't want to you to think you became successful by your own right. God wants you to know it is only through him you have anything you have and it can be taken away at any moment. I shared my thoughts with the staff member I talked to. Hate and judging will never bring anyone to God.

I have been attending Buckhead Church regularly since May 2006. I absoluetly love the sermons. The mission for the church is to reach unchurched people. The church leadership realizes that many people have been burned by other churches.

Joe..seems you are insanely jealous of rich preppy kids. Inferiority complex perhaps? I think your issues go much deeper than the church itself. Seek help NOW! And by the way I have attended Buckhead Church a few times but not a member and haven't been in around two years.

I am really troubled by some other comments left on here concerning Buckhead Church; I feel some of what has been said is highly unfair and judgmental. I am sorry if you had a poor first time experience at Buckhead Church, that should certainly never happen in any church. However, claiming that this church is elitist and racist is just plain wrong. All churches can improve, but how can positing negativity help spread our Lord's word and mission? It seems counter-productive to me. Does that really benefit anyone? Making judgments about the members and attendees of the church after a short visit is even more hurtful. This church has a more modern style of course, and it does feel like a concert when you are there to worship, which I absolutely love. If I am at church to worship and praise my Lord, then I want it to be as loud and joyful as possible! But this is my style, I am an enthusiast and I feel comfortable in this environment which I recognize that not everyone does. If the style doesn't suit you, then there are other churches out there for you too! Finding a church home is like finding a real home- you have to search and search for all your must-haves and at the end of the day you want to feel comfortable and yourself. It isn't about the church you attend or where you feel the most comfortable to worship our risen King, it??s about being in a growing relationship with our Savior. Wherever it is that you can do this, please do it! Buckhead Church has helped thousands fulfill North Point??s mission statement: ??to lead people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ. We accomplish our mission by creating environments where people are encouraged and equipped to pursue intimacy with God, community with insiders, and influence with outsiders."So just because it doesn??t seem like the right fit for you or it doesn??t suit your worship style, it doesn??t mean it is a poor church.
Personally, I have been attending North Point Community Churches (Browns Bridge, Buckhead, and Athens Church) for the past five years and have gained more knowledge than I have in my previous 15 years of church experiences. The sermons are on realistic issues in today's society. The messages take the Bible and put it into today's context which is especially helpful. After coming to Christ six years ago, Any Stanley??s messages have challenged me to continue leaning hard into God for everything, and hold me accountable for my relationship with Him. I can listen to messages online and in my car. Andy Stanley has written numerous books that have changed my life. My husband and I went through our pre-marital mentoring through this church and plan to be in a couple??s small group here as well. This church has been such a home for us, and we are so blessed to be a part of it. Once again, I am sorry for those of you who did not find this church as amazing as I do, but I urge you to have more tact and forethought in your descriptions and reviews of the church. This site is for posting honest and helpful reviews, and I don??t think what some of you have said will be helpful for non-believers or those considering Buckhead Church as a possible church home for them. Just because you didn??t like it doesn??t mean it can??t be liked. There is a reason so many people attend this church, and I pray that God gives you the peace and wisdom to realize this. There are always improvements than can be made, but constructive criticism is much more appreciated than downright judgments.

Entertaining, but out of touch with real life concerns. This place is very insular. It is a bunch of Buckhead Baptists trying to feel "cool" about church. They miss what many churches miss-- a genuine concern about the poor and the needy.

But, they really make it worse with a crass materialism not unlike what I see on Real Housewives of Atlanta. If you are white, you'll feel at home; If you are not white, you better be rich (I am not), and maybe you will feel at home. I'm not white, and I definitely felt left out.

The music was good, and the lights were cool, but the overall effect was like going to a concert. I went in alone and left alone--not a soul said hello.

There seem to be two types of people here, too, you have your metrosexual wanna-be hipsters, and your REI, mountain hardware wearing wanna-be rock climbers, and well, a third, your wealthy buckhead elitist yuppie people.

Anti-gay. They think you are going to hell. They'll never say it outright because they think that would turn people away. But, they're definitely not in your corner if you are gay and are actively against you and your equality.

And, there might as well be a "Whites Only" sign on the door; not literally (as in they won't let you in the door), but you are definitely not a concern--they're aiming to "reach" upper-class, wealthy white people in Buckhead. And, one look at the congregation can tell you that's who attends.

I'd avoid unless you share the church leadership's beliefs that all queers, non-christians, liberal christians, and Democrats are going to hell.

I've been to BC several times now. The service is usually entertaining insofar as the production values are pretty darn high and insofar as the preaching can keep your attention. But, what they don't "push down your throat" is what they really believe about non-really-conservative Christians, Muslims, Gays, Democrats, etc.

They really think that homosexual people are going to hell. They think that gays should not be given any equality whatsoever. They worry that Democrats are going to hell. As a majority of their people see it, Republican = God's Way. And if you are black... you are definitely not welcome here. I mean, they're definitely a white's only church. Of course they aren't overt about it---but the preaching, the small groups, etc., are all about white people issues and concerns. Their main goal is to convert wealthy upper class Buckhead white folks-- and that's it. Everyone else be damned.

Pros: Location, Production Values Are High

Cons: Anti-Gay, Anti-Progressive Christian, NOT diverse at all

Considering myself very traditional in my worship preferences, I was apprehensive to attend Buckhead Church with my husband, who was not raised in a Christian home, but who found meaning in Andy Stanley's messages. While the rock concert-like worship was out of my comfort zone in the beginning, the worship-leaders continuously give the glory to God and always focus the congregation on worshiping from the heart, whatever that means for individuals. They also repeat verses often enough and songs frequently enough that I've even learned the words to some!
I had also heard that Buckhead Church is the "Singles Church," but have been amazed by the children's programs! Our son is in one of the infant rooms, and the volunteers are so friendly and professional. The facilities are incredible!
I am so excited that God lead us to Buckhead Church! God is happening here, where there is something awesome for everyone!

This church preaches the importance of developing a personal relationship with Jesus Christ however your significance in the church is that of a number. The church is too busy controlling the masses. If you ask why BHC leadership why they can't devote any effort to individual needs they will respond with excuses that the population is growing beyond its control. Group conformity is the key to being accepted and so it is almost like joining a cult. In reality, the church puts more effort into Feng Shui (furnature and lighting) than to their mission which is to ... to lead people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ. Their stategy is ... to create environments where people are encouraged and equipped to pursue intimacy with God, community with insiders, and influence with outsiders. However, you will find that the church itself puts little effort into its mission and strategy. It is upon you to acheive this for the church. For this reason, membership in the church has little significance. The mission and strategy are simply marketing slogans. You can be a member of this church and still be as equally lost in the crowd as someone walking through the door for the first time.
If you attend BHC you will be a number. The significance of the number depends upon your ability to conform to the specific requirements of a quarterly meeting where the leadership gives you 15 minutes to introduce yourself to a group of people you don't know and form a bible study during a week night. The church's effort is to simply advertise the meeting, open the space, and provide sandwiches. The church itself provides absolutely no formality to the group formation process. However these community groups are the primary means of forming fellowship in the church.

Pros: Thousands of people in one place. Its like going to a football game every Sunday.

Cons: If you can't conform to certain aspects of the assimilation process you are insignificant.
