A wonderful Lunch-spot to come with both your office friends. The service of this spot is quite fabulous and quick. The staff is quite energetic to response also a better place for office meetings. A variety of food within cheap rates make it the first choice in customer satisfaction.

R. Thomas uses exotic birds to attract people to their place of business, but the birds themselves are treated HORRIBLY there. If you are vegan because you care about animals, I would not recommend supporting this business; it was very upsetting and distressing to see such cramped and confined birds who were trapped in cages on the outside of the building of the restaurant - that sits upon a very busy, noisy roadway. These birds are being used more for decoration than anything else and there is very little or no regard for their welfare as these animals should be in a setting that is closer to their natural habitat. The booming inside music along with the outside noise and the confinement must create such a hell for these poor beautiful exotic birds. If you are the kind of person who cannot stand to see a large living being cramped up in a small cage - or if you can't stand to see a bird not being given its right to a natural habitat or a place to spread their wings, then DON'T COME HERE. It's awful, and I will never go back again. I got the listing from HappyCow not knowing what to expect - I just got off a flight from the airport in Atlanta thinking I was going to a place that would understand a vegan lifestyle if they are going to serve vegan fare. This is not the case, here. Just keep going - and find somewhere else to dine in Atlanta.

Good selection of food, even if you are vegetarian or even raw food vegan. For meat eating folks there is a good selection as well. Not a traditional menu by any stretch, but everyone should be able to find something.

R. Thomas Deluxe Grill has a unique menu that is great for those trying to maintain better health through eating. They offer lots of different vegetables and grains along with you normal fare. I can't stop thinking about the delicious ice tea I had. I must go back.

Limited menu. All organic and some vegan. Not a good place for late night dining if you need drunk hang over food. But fun to hang out because they serve alcohol late.

"Pay close attention to the unusual collection of parrots and other birds that reside in cages just outside the front door. Your eyes will behold a feast of colors from the wild decor that covers the entrance way. Your ears will be soothed by the pleasant sounds of water cascading from the fountain. The non-stop conversational hum that echos across the covered heated patio stems from the ever flowing parade of individuals from all walks of life who amble in through the door. You may be surprised by the simple table setting of card tables and plastic patio chairs, but don't let that stop you. People flock here for one thing, and one thing only: THE FABULOUS FOOD!! Yerba Mate tea, Edimame, the Thai bowl, corn-potato chowder, baked wings, various pastas, cashew cheese dip, Thai basil wraps, Portobello burger, fresh fruit smoothies/shakes, vegan cakes! If this starts you salivating, then head down Peachtree Road to your new home!"

Some reviewers say that the food is pricey, but seriously for the quality, it is a bargain. I have eaten in a lot of "expensive" restaurants and often I wish, I had saved my money and gone to R Thomas. And the slow service comment, even at Mac Donald's you have to wait for your food!

We have been coming here for years. When we ran the Peachtree Road RAce, it was a tradition to come here for a meal afterwards. Sit outside when it's warm. It has a very unique atmosphere, plus the food is fantastic.

For anyone that is eating healthy or organic, this is the place. The waitstaff makes you feel right at home. Queso's are to die for. I highly recomment this restaurant.

Its been here as long as I have lived in Atlanta and its continues to deliver great food and customer service. R. Thomas even still brings his "magic" bird around sometimes...its quite the show! A couple of my favorite things on the menu are the Spicy Fish Tacos and the Chicken Curry Basil Wrap both fantastic.

What can you say about an Atlanta institution that hasen't already been said? It's the best in town for a great meal and getaway from the other ho hum establishments. Mr T knows what his customers want and he supplies it like no other in the city. His decor and birds are a welcome sight to anyone. Three cheers Mr. Thomas

The food was really yummy aside from the fact that it is healthy. We can really tell by the taste of it that it was prepared with real fresh ingredients. The service was also awesome. This restaurant is very unique. The healthy food selection they offer made them stand out from the rest.

I have been going to R. Thomas for years and have always had great food and good service. Being a little organic in nature, I appreciate all of the vegetarian options and healthy dishes. Everything is prepared fresh and tastes it. Their breakfast and brunch items are just wonderful as well. Wish they had a larger space a little off of the road though. Give them a try if you haven't, you will have a great time and be impressed with the honesty and integrity of the food.

Pros: Good food and great service

Cons: The noise from the traffic can be a little loud

We dine at this establishment about once a week. The menu has a great variety of delicious and healthy choices! But there is a female server (now wearing a short hair cut) there who we try not to be seated with because she openly discriminates against us and is very rude and I strongly feel it is because we are African American. When she is not our server, its great food and service, but if she is.....brace yourself to be ignored, addressed rudley and even have your change kept by her!!!! Other than her, it is a great establishment!

This Atlanta institution has been around for decades with its funky, tropical themed atmosphere on the massive indoor-esque patio. While greetings from talking parrots are not generally part of an Atlanta dining experience, it is certainly part of the charm of R. Thomas. Delicious vegan and vegetarian options such as veggie plates, or the heaping quinoa bowls covered in sauteed vegetables and sauces. The free range chicken wings are amazing, and they are grilled rather than deep fried. Open all hours of the day, R. Thomas also has a stout breakfast menu to please the late nighters and early risers.

It had been a while since I had visited R. Thomas. I was embarrassed when I recommended it for lunch with some co-workers.

First, $20 for lunch isn't reasonable when healthy food isn't as hard to get as it used to be, not to mention economic conditions. Secondly, the portions were minuscule -- ordered chips and salsa "crumbs n red stuff" and my salad might have had 3 leaves of lettuce (the saucer it was served on couldn't make it appear any larger). Finally, the food wasn't that tasty. My smoothie tasted watered down when compared to Arden's Garden and it was more expensive.

There just isn't an excuse for R. Thomas when there are other options. They need to adjust or they'll meet the fate of their neighbors.

Basically an old hippie restaurant, R Thomas Deluxe Grill has been a favorite of mine for a couple of years now. It has a great atmosphere, the building is cool, and it's almost like entertainment to watch the variety of people that enter and leave. I started going around when I became fully vegetarian two years ago, and am now vegan. I've consistently been able to bring family and friends who weren't as meat-unfriendly as I and seen them leave happy and full. There are really only a few places around you can get raw cashew nut cheese or cultured veggies and raw root vegetable salad, with a big smoothie of pear juice mixed with mango, dates, local organic bee pollen, and honey. How amazing does that sound?! Well, they have 30 juices and smoothies to choose from, and even just stopping in to get one is worth it, on a late night or whenever. Did you know it's open 23 or so hours a day?

However, recently R Thomas has reduced its portions AND raised its prices. This is coming straight from a person who works there. The quality has gone downhill somewhat in the last months, as well. Note, they have a few servers that are very experienced and have been there a long time. Don't be surprised by apathy. The kind of people that come into a 24-hour restaurant in the middle of Atlanta make life difficult for these people. Tip well, they deserve it, whether you know it or not. And the parking lot is terrible. At least they have plenty of it, though.

All that said, I'm planning on going this afternoon. It's still great, unique food and worth the traffic you'll endure on Peachtree.

I went to R Thomas to eat one afternoon and was waited on by a waiter named James. He was very rude and disrespectful to myself and everyone in my party. I would never in my life go to a place where the service was so poor and the waitstaff would be allowed to treat customers in such a rude way. Anyone going there should know that they aren't paying for the quality of food they are paying for the public humiliation of being treated badly by their employees.

I had to rate them one star since this wont allow me to give them zero, but really the service warrants no stars.

I have spent many late nights at R. Thomas. It was open 24 hours before late night dining became fashionable. They were the first. Their food is solid and good; truly reliable. The atmosphere is funky and eclectic and a little cramped, but adds to the friendly feeling and vibe that the place gives off. The wait staff are courteous and can be as wild as some patrons. When you're at R. Thomas you feel like you're home and in a really relaxed environment. The patio as an ambiance that is also very unique and that outside quality puts you right in midtown with a great city feel. This is the best 24 hour place in the city.

I love the eccentric patio atmosphere - it's very different than any other restaurant in the area. The parking is free, it's 24 hours, the staff is friendly, and my service has always been good. I'm still confused as to why there are birds in cages at a restuarant (it seems like it would be a violation of health codes or something), but then again, they are only located outside of the front door, away from the seating area. Their menu caters to a wide variety of people including your meat-eaters, veggies, and vegans. All the meat is free-range and all of the food is organic. The story of how they 'came to be' on their menu is actually worth reading. Do try their juices - they are all fresh-squeezed! Occationally they will run out of some of the fruits/veggies used to squeeze the juice, but there are plenty of other juice choices on the menu. I would say their only downfall is pricing - it is a little more pricey than I expected, but I think the healthy food and environment is worth it. Overall, I definitely recommend dining there.

I have been here time and time again hoping I will find something on the menu I can come here for. The edamame has always been a little mushy, the veggie burger was as well. It's great that it is open 24 hours and that is usually the main reason I go here. The cluttered atmosphere is unique and I love it...however, considering the restaurant is known for organic entrees and vegetarian options, I really feel bad for toucan sam and friends that seem to have been in small cages outside for years now. Hopefully, PETA members don't come here for their vegetarian food. The value isn't all that great and maybe one day I will find something on the menu I can't live without, until then, I say average. The idea is cool, but I just simply don't feel it is all it is made up to be.

This place was very neat to expierence. It's very eacy to get to and parking is free. The food was good but it was a little pricey. I had a Bacon egg and Cheese Sandwich with a side of green beans and my total was $17.00. That was including the tip which is 20% but the food was still good. Great for vegetarians and children. Wide selection on their menu too! All in all it was really good I just wasn't happy with the price. Oh yeah if you have 5 guest or more they automatically put you on one ticket and they won't seperate it. So it was really frustrating to pay individually!

I had the opportunity to visit RJ Thomas for a lite dinner. My daughter and I shared the R's Wings. They were not what I expected at all. The wings were healthy, light and very good. They were grilled, and had a light sauce on them. The homemade blue cheese dressing was very delicious as well. Definitely worth visiting again.

This morning at 4am my wife and I decided to have breakfast at R Thomas. Even at this hour the staff were very friendly and provided top notch service. I had the veggie omlette with home fries my wife had the french toast. The food was fantastic...well prepared and timely. The best home fries I've ever eaten. The birds starting waking just as we were leaving around 6am.

The food is a little more expensive than I was expecting, but the food is really good. I've only had the Thai Express bowl and the Down Home Bowl, but I have a feeling anything coming out of that kitchen would be delicious. First time I went service was horribly slow (but it was New Year's Eve), second time was a little slow, but very friendly. Their 9-grain dinner rolls are really good also, a little sweet. Overall I definitely recommend this place, especially to any vegans/vegetarians out there, because the menu caters to them very generously.

I had a really good time. It had a really good atmosphere with good food that was healthy for you. I got a dish with chicken in it and it had the best sauce.

i've always given this restaurant credit for having healthy and tasty vegetarian food 24/7. service, however, is seriously lacking. we were in a group of seven. half of us got drinks promptly the other half did not get their drinks until AFTER the meal. We asked the server for the missing drinks when we got our food, and he apathetically answered "they haven't finished making them yet". no apology, no "i'll check on that", no nothing... bleeehhh.

Best place in town for a fun, funky meal any time of day or night. Food is excellent, service is solid, and you can't beat the atmosphere. Try the real yerba mate - it's worth the visit for that alone!

My friend took me here to get something to eat and I have to admit, when I walked in the joint, I thought to myself....what an odd place. But once yousit down, you really start to enjoy the hippie vibe R. Thomas offer. The food is amazing. I ordered the chicken curry wrap...and it was so so so so good! The flavors mixed together perfectly, and it just mealted in my mouth as I ate it. I recommend this dish to anyone who visits R. Thomas. All the food on the menu looked great, so I am sure you will not be dissapointed with anything you order. You have to try R. Thomas - I know you'll love it!

I live directly behind R. Thomas at Camden Brookwood, and go into this little piece of paradise once a week. Who needs the Rain Forrest, when we have R.Thomas. Healthy food, but burgers and chicken, if you must. Casual service, who cares, great all night hours. If you are on the Raw Food kick, check out the new menu. Richard Thomas, the owner just installed a new American flag on the side of the restaurant. Made by kids from Alabama, whose town was destroyed by a severe hurricane, using remnants of what was left of their homes. Another great humanitarian, who cares about the earth, and what we put into our bodies. Personally love the Spicy Fish Taco's, and the smoothie with Fresh Ginger.

Pros: Healthy Food and Smoothies!

Cons: Patio is very hot this time of year!

I've been going here for over a year now and they still impress and please my appetite and expectations like no other! From the amazing atmosphere which is calm and soothing on a weekday to crowded and crazy on Friday and Saturday nights, there is no place like R. Thomas. If you want to eat at the most incredible place in Atlanta (if not all of Georgia), go here immediately. No matter what you like to eat, no matter what time you have a craving, R. Thomas is always open!
To those who complain about the service time, you must understand that excellent food takes a little bit more time than drive-thru and perhaps you should dine with people who are more engaging than a napkin ring. [sort of joking about that last little bit...]

Visited R Thomas for the first time this week (7/24/05). The place was fun with all the birds, plants, and atmosphere. The menu was wonderful...with many vegan choices. I had the Thai Express bowl and my wife had the Magic Quesadilla. Both dishes were perfect. The service was very good. The birds were great. We will return here often.

We never, ever visit ATL without stopping in to R's to re-fuel on yummy southern delicacies. After the club or late brunch, afternoon snack, wash it all down with a blue moon tea. Yummm...

Love this place. Come often for Sunday morning breakfast. They use the freshest ingredients. I appreciate the variety of offerings because I like veggies, but my husband does not! Be prepared to stay awhile if you like birds. There are caged parrots and carnaries on the premises.

Waited 10 mintues before I ever got a drink, and thats just the beginning. every order took mad long to come out..,. I even cancelled desert due to the wai. there werent more than 5 people in the whole place- 10 PM Monday night... all the veggie food is cooked in the same pan/grills as the meat... To top it all off the stuck me with an 18% service charge, since we had 5 plus people ... I wouldnt have given them a cent over 10% if that...

In a city of concrete, R. Thomas offers green respite in a tropical rainforest atmosphere. Here the shrieking of the cockatoos? R. Thomas himself, inventor(?) of the sake-based Bloody may greet you! "Be careful," he will warn you. The Bloodies are insidious & you won't even feel the kick til it sets in. See and be seen here, and hope the "reader" comes in to sell you a glimpse of your future. Alone(?) Never mind, delve into the latest underground newspaper, or just watch the beautiful people. You'll feel younger and healthier when you leave. This place has LONG been a favorite of mine.

24 hr vegetarian paradise, they also serve a number of free-range chicken dishes which are also great. Enormous menu including several dozen side dish choices. They also have coffee drinks, desserts (fantastic key lime pie), & nachos, which makes this the perfect late-night snack stop.
