Walking in to Little Shop of Stories brings me back to my childhood. It's so rare to find a bookstore like this, fun and quirky, with children's books and toys and employees who are understanding about little hands that have to touch everything.

Little Shop of Stories is a locally owned children's bookstore. The set-up is charming and the employees knowledgeable and friendly. They have a great monthly schedule featuring storytimes, author signings, and book groups. Something for everybody! They have a fairly substantial selection of adult books as well as children's - they are especially strong in the literary fiction category.

The location and atmosphere is great. Not crowded, easy to browse with a stroller in tow. Staff is WONDERFUL! However I wonder who orders the books they carry -- they need to hire someone with a degree in English and some courses in children's literature. They have your typical kids books Sandra Boynton board books, Curious George, Goodnight Moon -- boring -- you can get 90 per cent of their selections at any bookstore or even some well stocked Targets. I think the mark of a great children's bookstore is finding great children's literature that you haven't seen before.

Little Shop Of Stories is everything you'd want in a neighborhood bookstore. Carefully selected children's books and related items, a smaller but excellent selection for teens and adults, and cozy nooks and overstufffed armchairs to enjoy quiet moments. Walking into this cheerful and whimsical bookstore immediately puts you in a good mood, and the owners and staff welcome and assist you with genuine enthusiasm. You get the feeling that this is more than a business--it's a labor of love and a commitment to the community. If you want to indulge, Little Shop Of Stories shares the space with Jake's Ice Cream, home of "Slap Yo' Momma Chocolate" and other delicious flavors. There's a party room in the back, and the two businesses combine to host birthday parties, visits from children's characters and other fun events. It's a warm, wonderful place, a welcome addition to the neighborhood. You should go.

Rarely do I find a book store with as much passion and love for books, especially children's books, as Little Shop of Stories. They specialize in the best of the new and the most loved of the old. They schedule so many fun events for kids, they can honestly become a hub to help a child's literacy and interest in books and reading. It is obvious that this store is well-loved by the owners and all the employees. It is bright, cheerful, and impeccably clean. If you ask for a suggestion, be prepared to get a list of great ideas, they've read them all. They share their space with Jake's Ice Cream. Books and ice-cream, can't beat it. Gotta go.
