I had my hair colored by a young lady today named, Tong. Never before have I had such a fantastic color job done. It is beautiful. My hair was in such a mess where I had tried to do it myself and another salon had tried to fix it. Thank you so very much Tong. I will continue coming to your salon for her to do my color.

If you are the kind of person who just wants to sit down and trust the person doing your hair, Nilan is perfect for you. She always as an idea of what would look good on me and I never have to worry about not liking the cut. Great conversations and good people watching are added bonuses.

Pros: Great ideas for new styles, proffesional staff, top notch!

I am sadden to know that Michael Campbell is no longer with Van Michael. He is the BEST, it's unfortunate because a lot of women of color are loyal clients.

Pros: Example: best croissants in town

Cons: Lack of stylists of color

My friend tried to help me save money by coloring my hair with color from CVS. It was a disaster! I live near the Highlands so I booked an appointment with Van Michael and was able to get in with Jyll. Not only did she fix my color but it looked better than it did before I tried to do it at home and it felt healthy too. I am hooked. I highly recommend Jyll.

Pros: Very talented colorist. Salon looks great!

I am really into having natural looking highlights, and I could not be happier with Jaime... she's a perfectionist and really into making it what you want. The salon is nice as well, with some great stylists...

I started seeing Lexi for color and Mekaylah for a cut at the Highlands location about a year ago, and I'm impressed every time I go into the salon. Lexi always explains everything she's doing so I'm not expecting anything that's not possible for my dark dark brown hair, and she's taken me fiery red back to brown and everything in between in that time. Mekaylah is a great haircutter, reasonably priced and always on time! She handles my very thick, wavy hair with ease!

I've lived in a few southern cities and Van Michael's has to be the most consistently excellent salon I've been to. I see Rob for my haircuts and Stuart for my color. I really can't say enough about those guys. They feel more like friends to me at this point. I guess the only negative thing I could say about them is that it's damned hard to get in with them unless you book an appointment in advance. I suppose that's the price you pay for being in demand!

So I have been trying to find a hairdresser for years and had given up my search when a friend recommended Van Michael Salon in buckhead. Unable to force myself to go to Buckhead I opted for the salon closest to me and am forever grateful I did.
Will not only made me feel great about myself and my look, but he took the time to explain which cuts would go best with my face. Luckily he talked me out of a Beckham for my face shape and kep me from being a victim to a trend I could not carry. Thanks Will!!!

I have been going to Van Michael for over 5 years now and their customer service has only been getting worse and worse. When you go to pay, their front desk staff is very rude as if you are a nusiance. It really leaves a bad taste in your mouth. The person whom has cut my hair doesnt even listen to me anymore about what I want and makes me wait for 30-45 minutes EACH time. My time is not valued at all. Honestly, I am sick of overpaying for mediocre. I am looking into another place where I can get what I pay for.

I have been a fan of Van Michaels for awhile but my colorist left so I haven't been to a Van Michael in about 1.5 years. Since i moved to VH, I naturally choose VM to do a cut and color. Great colorist, great brow wax but then it was time for a cut. No was the theme for the day. I brought a picture that was insulted, I was told, "well I am not sure what we do about this" to my cowlick, I didn't want the straight flat iorn look and when I asked about "sprucing it up" after I got the flat iorn look, I was told "well you don't want to do that as you could then damage my hair" instead of just spritzing my hair and adjusting, and finally I was SHOCKED when we were done as I looked atrocious and the response was "go home and play with it". You are kidding right? I thought that a stylist was supposed to style.

Well I left and called the manager WHO DID A GREAT JOB. She got me in later to a sr stylist who wet my hair and all we had to do was restyle and teach me how to style. HE WAS FANTASTIC AND THE MANAGER DID A GOOD JOB. That is why I gave them 3 stars instead of ZERO! I never would have know that I had a good haircut if someone ELSE didn't style it. THEY LISTENED and didn't use the word NO at every request.

Don't know if I will go back. The Sr Stylist and Manager were fantastic but I just don't know. ...

Insultingly expensive + unfriendly front desk personnel = 2 stars. Sorry Van Michael. If you don't improve the customer experience and value, someone else is gonna beat you to it.

Van Michael used to be known for the best stylists and colorists in the south. Unfortunately, those days have passed. Over the past few years and continuing today, they have lost their best talent due to their changing corporate attitude. They used to have one of the top training programs in the business but this too has fallen into obscurity. There is no longer any innovation. The client experience has become mediocre at best and the service has become overpriced. There are many other salons in Atlanta who still value your business and have much better talent, much of it from the early days of Van Michael. I urge you to seek them out. Your time and money will be better spent.

My boyfriend arranged for me to have my haircut with a "top stylist" here about a month ago for my birthday. I have beautiful, long, layered hair... Well, I had that. I went in for a new STYLE and was specific that I didn't want too much length to be lost unless absolutely necessary. I told him I'd be OK with 1-2 inches, but that's all. He said, "Oh, we're not even going to take off that much!" He proceeded to spin me around and show me exactly how much he was going to cut off - Fine, it wasn't much at all! So far, so good - nice people, nice atmosphere.

When he showed me the final product, I almost had a nervous breakdown, but I kept it together as to not upset my boyfriend who just paid a total of $100 for my hair (cut and tip only). The stylist cut almost 5 inches off and gave me these horribly choppy side bangs that still, to this day, I can't get fricken styled right. When we got home, I cried for hours, I couldn't even look in the mirror. I wanted a new style, not a whack job, and most of all, he showed me what he was going to cut off, and this was WAY WAY more. Even worse, I wanted a new style, and what he did was take AWAY the style - I have a drab and boring cut now. I thought maybe it'd take a while to get used to, but still, a month later, I avoid looking in the mirror because of how depressing my hair looks. He cut it too short and completely sapped the life out of it.

On the flip side, the salon was very nice, the people were friendly ,and the environment was nice, I suppose you just have to be choosy about the stylist you get.

I relocated to Atlanta 3 years ago & I have been in search for a hair salon that has excellent stylists, are courteous & most importantly a salon that knows how valuable your time is. I found all of this at Van Michaels in Buckhead. As a Black woman, I was skeptical at first, but to my shocking surprise it is the best salon that I've ever been to since moving here. I have visited several times with different stylists & my visits were all great. The best thing of all, no waiting!!! If your appointment is at 5:00pm, they mean 5:00pm. Im in & out within an hour. I received a chair massage, which was so good. Mick did the best cut ever. I've never cut my hair short & was nervous at first and didnt even know how i wanted it cut. He just said "I'll take care of you" and that he did, he went to work & the outcome was Fab-U-Lous!! Elyce & Juana are also very talented stylists, they were all great. I would definitely recommend this salon. Each stylist specializes in different things, which is also great. Im so glad I finally found a hair salon that embodies everything I want.

Went about a week ago for the very first time. I walked in, was nicely greeted, and then shown around the salon. Did not wait at all before I got started with Mark. He was great. I told him what look I was going for, and he told me how to get it. He even explained the science behind it, which is the first time any stylist has done that for me. My cut ended up exactly as I wanted it. They did not push any Aveda products on me, just asked me once at the register if I was getting anything else, which I did. This place may be a little expensive for some ($60+ for a men's cut), but it's well worth it if you ask me.

I saw Courtney for years and she is a great stylist. Main reason I left was to find a new colorist. It can be pricey, depending on who you see. I haven't been there for over a year so I can attest to the snobbiness of the staff now, but I never had a bad experience. Parking can be hard.

It is too bad that a salon with such talented stylists have allowed their reputation to substitute for overall salon service. I have gone off and on to the same stylist at VM since the original store opened in Buckhead. While I have been pleased with my hair cuts and stylist, the salon experience is always frustrating. The constant overselling of Aveda products and services, the long waits, and the disorganized/snobby staff don't make it very relaxing. And when I am paying $85 for a hair cut, I would prefer to leave the salon feeling better than when I walked in! No longer willing to fuel the VM (vanity machine!).

Explained what I wanted and what I didn't want-and she gave me exactly what I DIDN'T want! It was the worst haircut ever! I called to reschedule to fix the damage (which they offer). Unless I took a day off work I couldn't come in before the two week free cut and would have to pay! Then I realized why would I want a someone who is awful at cutting hair to do it again. I went somewhere else and the guy who cut my hair asked me who cut it before-that it was awful and hard to fix. Snotty staff, overpriced, and they can't cut hair!

Several years ago Van Michael Salon was the regular salon that I went to. When I left for college, I was no longer able to go to the salon. After I returned to Atlanta, I decided to go back. I was disappointed in how much the quality has gone down. The haircut was ok and the highlights were bad. The highlights started so far from my head that I looked as if I had gone a month without retouching them. The color was inconsistent as well.

Went for color. when she was done (I wanted light brwn undertones with real blonde chunky h/lits) It was all very dark brown with no visible to the naked eye h/lits! then the staff, knowing how bad it looked proceeded to say "oh it looks sooo good!" which pissed me off more. So I schedule a redo, since I need way more H/lits for it 2 look like the picture, she gave me such teeny tiny foils that my hair looks an overall grey! you can not see the difference b/w the 2 colors! Plus my hair is short and I told her not to H/Lit the back so much since it is short, so she h/lits the hell out of the back, so now it looks poka dotted!! Looks NOTHING like the picture I gave her twice! WHY DID I PAY SOMEONE 115 DOLLARS WHO CAN NOT DO HAIR??!!!

I have been going to Van Michael for about a year now. I have started to get coloring done as well and have always been impressed with their ability. However, my last trip their it seems that my colorist is getting too busy and I ended up getting stuck with her assistant to do my glossing. The assistant, which I know is licensed, seemed to do a good job until I washed it 24 hours later. The roots and the rest of my hair are two different colors. I don't have a problem using an assistant for washing, etc. but there is no excuse to pay $70.00 for a coloring job and then have two different shades going over your head. I did call and they had me set up to get it fixed with someone else within 72 hours.

I've never felt compelled to write a review but, after an appointment at Van Michael salon in Virginia Highland, it seems most just. I walked in with a wretched haircut that needed desperate fixing and walked out with a haircut that was unfathomably perfect. Will listened to my gripes and perfected the cut to flatter my face and overall look. The whole staff is extraordinarily friendly and needless to say, I'm a fan.

After searching for over a year for a new salon, (my schedule didn't allow me to book in advance.) I am finally able to go back to Van Michael in VA. Highlands! I will never stray again! Stewart is a miracle worker and he will need all of his talents to fix what other "professionals" have done. I am a believer.

As an executive consultant, appearance is very important and I wouldn't trust mine to anyone else! Stuart has given me the most beautiful consistent color I have ever had -- for over four years! The level of professionalism at the salon has always been top notch. Not only have I always had a wonderful experience, I have recommended stylists to others without hesitation - and never have I received a complaint! Thank you to the entire staff!
