.

Was looking for a nice fall jacket to wear for work and strolled through most of the clothing stores at the outlet mall. Had my eye on a couple, one at Kenneth Cole and the other at Saks but kept looking. Walked into Burberry and started checking out their jackets. I noticed the sales staff immediately came over to me and asked if I needed help. Normally this would be a good thing, but since there were at least ten other people around me also looking, and I was the only one to get attention, it struck me as odd. I politely told the man in the suit, "Thanks, but I am just browsing." and turned to look again at the jacket I found. The following comment from the man made me realize just why I caught their attention. He said "Nice sweater." in a somewhat pittiful tone. My sweater that I was wearing was not really nice, in fact it was pretty awful. I had no plans to go shopping that day and had thrown on a few layers of clothing, including the cheap sweater from Walmart to keep warm since it was a chilly day. I had left my purse in the car and was only carrying my credit card in my back pocket. I wasn't even wearing my diamond rings from my husband. And I'm sure he didn't see me step out of my husbands 7 series BMW. So I must not have looked, how should I say it, wealthy enough to shop in Burberry? Well little did they know, it didn't matter how expensive the jacket was, if I wanted it I would buy it. But I have to say, a few minutes later when that mans comment really sunk in, I decided that Burberry would do just fine without my business. I left the store and went back to Kenneth Cole and bought a jacket there, along with a few outfits since I saved so much.
Bottom line. I know I wasn't dressed that great when I stepped into the store, but did that really require such a passively rude comment from one of the salepeople? It actually made me not want to shop there, ever. You just don't say those kinds of sarcastic things to a woman. I'm sure all of the salespeople in the store could not possibly be so rude. This was just my experience there.
