I would like to say that I own Martial Arts Institute of Vacaville and I'm guessing that this gentleman who submitted the only review here is a competing business owner --- never met him - heard of him. He's claiming that we have made many claims - we teach traditional martial arts --- not MMA or street fighting. We teach our kids' classes very differently than our adult and teen classes. Unfortunately, it is easy to be anonymous and put out reviews to attempt to hurt the business of a competitor.

If I could give this place ZERO stars, I would. After posting on Yahoo Local the owners of this studio started to harass me online and post negatives comments on my other reviews, both positive and negative ones, editing their posts repeatedly, only further proving my point that they lack true confidence in both themselves and their service. If their business is so great, it can stand the test of supposedly only one negative reviewer. They are as phony as a 3 dollar bill. I've been in law enforcement for over 20 years, and I've never seen instructors try to teach me something that was so far from reality for the street as what their instructors were claiming would work. In the real world there is a real need for effective techniques that will actually work. When you're looking down the barrel of a gun, or the guy has a knife to your throat, or there's more than one of them, the only thing that's going to save your life is techniques which have been proven to work and have been drilled into you over, and over and over again. There is no quick fix for this, or effective crash course that I've seen for self-defense. The instructors claim it's self-defense, but they've never been in a real street situation in their life, let alone had to deal with them day after day for 20+ years. I couldn't believe how ridiculous their techniques were... or that I actually gave it more than a few classes worth just to be sure. As far as all around training for the family, I can't say it does well there either. If you're thinking of this for your children or family, think again... the reason they have almost nothing but kids studying with them isn't because they're good with kids... it's because it's easy to fool children and their parents too, if the parents have no understanding of martial arts prior to bringing their kids there. This place seems to me more like most of the other "martial arts studios" these days ... just unlicensed day care centers masquerading as a martial arts studio... do yourself a favor and don't waste your time or your dime by going here. This place will only suck you dry of both and create an illusion of confidence and self protection, and unfortunately illusions can neither help nor protect you in the real world.... or worse yet, try to rely on Taekwondo or Aikido to save your life one day. At the VERY least do a proper comparison by trying out all the studios in the area first before deciding on one just because the person seems like a "nice guy" or not. Martial Arts instruction is all about the experience of the individual, like a good doctor or a good attorney; it is not something which can be mass-produced or is the same quality just because the brand, ie: "Sony, Taekwondo, etc." is the same. Do you want the doctor who is cheapest... or the one who can save your life? I've seen enough... stay away from Tae Kwon Do, AKA "Take your dough" studios... period.
