Awesome bands

by BooStuff21

I went to Drom about a week or two ago for my best friends birthday. I am a sucker for bars that have live bands and this one seemed great. The band was fa blast and really played stuff that got the audienced on their feet! I defs plan to go back to check out another act and maybe next time for some food. The menu looked amazing so what else could you want - good eats and good music!

Rude staff

by aaron123

Came here to see a friend play. We talked to the person collecting the cover charge and mentioned our friend who was playing. He collected our money and didn't mention that our friend already finished playing. When we found out and went over to collect our money, all of a sudden he didnt know who the guy we were planning to see was and said he couldn't do anything about refunding us. We asked if we could see the manager and he directed us to the bouncer....

Look at the reviews for this place. There are 5 star reviews then than the 1 star reviews. There is something suspicious about that, I would doubt the credibility of the 5 star ratings.

I also emailed the venue about my experience and they never replied back....

RIP OFF! Don't waste your time or money!

by federal1

I'm not one to leave a negative rating for anywhere, but this place deserves it! Foremost, to charge $40 per person for admission to what should be better called a basement is ridiculous! Seating is slim to none, so be prepared to stand the whole night. Drinks have NO set price!!! I paid $12 one time and $15 another for the SAME drink, all in TINY little plastic cups. Then when you try and bring up the price difference, they basically respond with do you want the drink or not!!! Talk about classy! If you pay with a credit card, they will add a nice and hefty tip whether you agree to it or not. You can't buy a round a drink unless everyone in your party is standing at the bar, because they will only hand ONE drink per person. The DJ that was playing the night I was there, used the stage monitors as speakers, so the music had to be cranked extra loud for everyone to enjoy. It basically sounds like a $20 boom box being played too loud! All I can say about this place - AVOID IT LIKE THE PLAGUE! Even if there's someone playing you really want to see, you wont enjoy it! On the other hand, if you enjoy a basement like atmosphere, don't mind paying $40 at the door, and slamming down $15 booze in plastic cups, while being treated like a second class citizen, then DROM is the place to be!

Pros: None!

Cons: Overly priced! Horrible service! Waste of time!

Terrible Wine and Service

by critic1982

I visited Drom yesterday for the first time. The first three bottles of wine I attempted to order were not available. After asking the waiter what was available he recommended a white wine ensuring me that the wine was dry. To say the least, the wine was aweful and extremely sweet...this guy did not know his wines...

No Zero Star Option?

by whitmn

If you want to go to a place that is understaffed, charges $5 for a diet coke, doesn't stock enough red wine on a Saturday night (not kidding - THEY RAN OUT - and as a tablemate and I had only one glass each, I swear I wasn't the culprit!), and makes you wait well over an hour for less than mediocre food, then go for it. One of the people at my table said he has had excellent food there in the past, but last night was so ridiculously terrible that I doubt even he will be back. There are too many great places in NYC to waste your time and money here (not to mention sending your good mood spiraling into a foul, violent place). *****Hey, Citysearch, if a place has four 5-star reviews, one 4-star review, and five 1-star reviews, how does it end up with a 3.5-star overall rating? That's sketch.

Pros: Live music

Cons: Everything else

Cool little spot

by izntreal

It's a fresh breath of air in a neighborhood filled with me-too dive bars. The music is always diverse, live bands from around the world (it varies, you have to look at their schedule or call them) but there always seems to be something there for everyone. The food is great (like a fusion of Turksih and Spanish Tapas) and you can eat while you listen to the bands.

High ceilings and laidback but classy decor, but not fussy. My date and I tried the Prixe-Fixe dinner which was nicely presented. It's a fun spot for a budget-minded night out.

Must tries: Fried Baby Okra, Samosas and their "special" cocktails are some really dazzling concoctions, careful though, they sneak up on you!

I'll definitely go back again.

Overpriced for this venue and area.

by matto6

Salsa night, $10 cover. $3 coat check. $7 Corona bottles (+ $1 tip = $8) is a steep for the E. Village. No draft beer. How about selling $6 draft pints?
Also, the killer was a bottom-shelf vodka tonic in a little plastic cup: $12. And it was a weak drink. So, not going back or recommending this place.

Pros: big space

Cons: bottom shelf vodka tonic costs $12 - and it was in a plastic cup and weak.

Never again!

by AlisoNYC

If there was less than an star option for the ratings, that's what I would give Drom. My impression is that the management's goal is to take advantage of its customers and music performers to the furthest extent by offering the least and charging the max while trying to pack in as many people/sardines they can. The space is nice and the musicians I've watched there were great but neither make up for the slow and rude service, poor and over-priced food, and the bad quality and overpriced drinks served in plastic cups. I know several cases of people who have gotten sick from bad drinks served there. Part of the excitement of the place is that you never know how much you'll pay for your drink: we were charged 2 different prices for the same drinks over 2 separate orders from the bar; in both cases the bartenders rang up a lower price at the register.

Pros: guest musicians

Cons: Rude management and service, overpriced, bad quality food and drinks.

Got hustled by management...

by nycBird

At the 12/13/08 Senlendrici show we were hustled by management. We bought ticks @ $35 and paid the $20/person table charge. After that the manager came over in the middle of the show and insisted we pay another $20/person. I told him his web site advertises $20/person for concerts and he said "Special night; $40". So I asked for the check and they refused to process my credit card forcing me to pay cash. The food and bar fees were outrageously high for the medocre product they offer. Stay away from Drom.

Pros: great music

Cons: management are hustlers

what a rip off

by cello1881

We were in this bar to listen to Husnu Senlendirici on 12.13.2008 and the admission fee was outrages for $40.-- per person.
In any established jazz club in NYC do not charge more than $25.00 for any world wide known artist. Service was not great and bar charges were outrages. $15.00 for a glass of whiskey was a rip off and serving the drinks in plastic cups were classles and cheap.
Obviously Turkish mentality was carried out and applied here.It was a very dissapointing experience and It is not recomended.

Pros: hard to find

Cons: expensive and bad manegement

Great experience!

by jjinrutherford

My husband and I have been to DROM a number of times because it is always a memorable night. DROM has put together a compete world "experience," from the food to the drinks to the music to the atmosphere. When you head down the stairs, you would never guess that waiting for you is a gorgeous, warm, intimate and spacious at the same time venue. The music never fails to stir the crowd;we always find ourselves dancing. The food is delish and the drinks go beyond standard boring "martini menus" you find at most bars - my favorite is a burboun and ginger concoction. DROM is a great place to take visitors for a taste of what cultural NYC is all about.

Pros: the music and the mixologist

Amazing music, great venue!!!

by NYCfunchick

I've been to Drom a few times and never disappointed with the music. There is a great show almost every night and the food is good too! Prices are very reasonable. Service was ok - could be better.

Pros: Ambiance is awesome. Great lighting, warm colors... Fantastic live performances. Late-night DJ parties are great too!

Cons: Parking is a b*tch. Take a cab or the subway. Service was not great... just ok.

Total crowd pleaser

by TBiamby

Drom is a beautiful venue with a great vibe. The brick walls and cozy seating are warm and inviting and the crowd is always bubbling... definitely a fun place to mix and mingle. The staff are friendly and attentive and the gorgeous bartenders will make you anything you want. The extensive menu will make your taste buds dance... olives, salads, skewers and appetizers of all sorts, there's something on it for everyone. The bands and musical events are lively and engaging with theme nights that are sure to keep you entertained. I have been going to this space for some time, but now as Drom, it has become a low-key sophisticated venue with an eclectic mix of people and musical variety. And, oh, did I mention the bathrooms... they're always clean with the best hand-dryers in town!
