The people at this clinic are more than professional. They are sensitive with high integrity. They are not all about the money. We got a free evaluation and was the most inexpensive panel my dog has ever received. GOOD people. Totally sweet staff.

VCA North Coast is a total rip off, most of the good doctors have left and the ones left are not knowledgeable, the staff sucks and the place is way too expensive. I hear the doctors work on commission so they over charge to meet their quota. Stay away from all VCAs, they get you in the door with a "free health exam" coupon, then the gauging starts. All Pets is a way better place to go and as far as emergency services, I would drive to Carlsbad to CVS or Sorrento Valley to VSH. At least they are specialists that know what they are doing.

I had a middle of the night emergency with my dog, and had to take him there after 10pm. I really love my regular vet, but the fact that most VCA's are open 24-hours, that is a huge bonus. :) I took my dog there also, 8 years ago, the day I got him.
Price seemed a little high, but maybe they charge more for 'after hours' business.

VCA hospital put my elderly dog through traumatic surgeries that I later found out my dog did not need considering cancer was normal for this age, and as long as he was eating, sleeping, drinking, getting up fine, walking and was in good spirits, then he would be fine. VCA made major mistakes on the surgery of my dog, where they had to perform two additional surgeries to fix their mistakes in which they charged me for as well. Additionally, they did not give other options that they knew were more affordable and less traumatic for my dog, even when asked for. Then, my dog had minor fractures in which VCA again did not give all options available. When I specifically asked for other options, the nurse denied what she said about no alternative choices, even though I had two witnesses who heard her very clearly. When I called the nurse on her lack of truth and twisting of words, she said we were not allowed back. Be careful of this center, they will use a vulnerable moment and take you for a financial ride and use your love for your pet against you, and if you ask for alternative options, they will use guilt as a manipulating tool to hurt you. They need to be investigated for overcharging and using a vulnerable time in a person's life to manipulate a situation. Physicians and dentist are fined, loose their license and many times go to jail for this kind of practice...vets need to be held accountable too!

I had been going to VCA for years and always felt Dr. Elliot was one of the best surgeons in town and from what I have heard from locals, he is. However, when it comes to atypical disease processes, the team of vets at VCA are average to poor in diaganosing and managing long-term and difficult diseases. This is a big emergency clinic (5 vets) and their focus is really getting things done quickly and efficiently rather then taking the time to deal with complex diseases. For standard or emergency care VCA might be just fine but if you are a dog owner who includes your pets as part of the family, I would suggest you find a vet who is able to take the time to put you and your pet in front of the line.

PROS: Good quick standard or basic care.
CONS: Poor w/high maintenance or challenging disease processes.

The vets at North Coast Animal Hospital are very caring and thoughtful -- and they don't look to gouge you. We've had two sick cats with them. They are very honest as to options that we have had, and helpful in deciding when and how to "pull the plug." We really appreciate them!
