Ratings_icons Wonderful Avian Vet!

Amber G.

I was looking for an avian vet, and stubled across Dr. Malka at the VCA Sacramento. He was knowledgeable and very kind to my cockatiel. Highly recommend, also because I booked online and was a new to the practice, I was able to print a coupon to waive the price of the initial exam.

Dr. Shachar Malka, exotics specialist, is my personal vet for all my rescue/ rehab/personal rabbits (12) and guinea pigs (18) and I feel fortunate to have my animals under his care. I am impressed with his expertise, kindness and compassion. The staff has also been very kind and helpful, both front and back office. My trip for vet care involves 8+ hours round trip from Yosemite to there and back yet I would not consider going anywhere else. I highly recommend VCA/Carmichael to any person seeking the very best and state of the art veterinary care for their animal. Ratings_icons Worst veterinary experience ever!!

Marchel B.

Do not take your beloved pets to this horrible place!!! I only gave one star because it is necessary to submit the review.

I took my mini doxie to see their 'reknowned' orthepedic surgeon because he was having a little trouble walking straight after squeezing through a small space in our fence. This man, Jeff Biggart, is a mean horrible man who has no business handling animals. He reeked of cigarette smoke and looked like he had a serious hangover. He barely observed my dog walking around the room before telling me that my dog needed an immediate $8,000.00 surgery or he would be crippled for life and that I 'couldn't handle a crippled dog'. He made me feel terrible for not being able to afford this for my dog and then told me that the surgery could also cripple him. I was a complete wreck, but decided to follow some advice I'd seen on the internet and put my dog on bedrest with baby aspirin for a few days before considering such an invasive procedure.

Lo and behold it is three years later and my little doggie is just fine. Getting a little older and a little forgetful, but NOT crippled.

I complained to the management and they sided with their 'doctor' (and I use the term loosely) and said that based on my dog's symptoms, his treatment plan was appropriate. They made no comment on his treatment of me.

I immediately switched my dogs care to Blue Cross Pet Hospital on Fair Oaks Blvd. These are the most wonderful and caring people one could ask for in the treatment of their pets. Unlike VCA, whose charges were ridiculously exhorbitant, Blue Cross has extremely reasonable rates to go along with their wonderful care. VCA was constantly trying to upsell products, and laying on the guilt trip when I declined. Blue Cross has never attempted to pressure me into purchasing products that I am not interested in. Switch to Blue Cross and stay away from VCA!!!
