Stay away from VCA - they suck really bad. Their prices are really expensive and their level of service is very bad.

If I could give no stars to VCA I would. My cat died after VCA saw her and I believe their level of very bad care was responsible.

The vet even left the technicians in charge to look after my pet. The technicians and desk staff are the worst ever. But not as bad as the uncaring vets!

Do yourself a favor - go find an alternative vet before being made to do so by the appallingly bad treatment and services you get at VCA.

They are VERY EXPENSIVE AND LOOK TO INCREASE THEIR CHARGES ANY WAY THEY CAN - FIND ANOTHER VET WHO IS GREAT AS I DID!!

This was the first clinic that I took my cat to when we came to Texas. The staff was very friendly but the prices were a bit high for routine shots.

Their service and professionalism is the worst I have ever experienced. I took my cat in to be checked on her second day of not having any appetite.\n\nI already had numerous mis-givings about the quality of care and professionalism at VCA but because this seemed urgent, I did not research another vet to go to and decided to let VCA take care of my cat. BIG MISTAKE!!!\n\nTheir reception staff are very rude, arrogant, unsmiling and completely un-interested in you or your pet(s)not a good way to start with a sick pet.\n\nThe vet that did see my cat talked the talk and tried to appear caring. (Not the case.) I was told the cat would need to go to the emergency vet overnight because it was a life and death situation. I was told my cat should have oxygen on the journey by car to the emergency vet.Instead of preparing my cat for the oxygen, the vet actually left at 6.00 pm (because it was her time to ""clock off"" and left the most un-intelligent, lowest class rudest technicians I have ever encountered to prepare oxygen delivery for my cat.An oxygen chamber is an air-tight container for cats into which oxygen is fed. They decided not to let me borrow an oxygen chamber (maybe they did not have one which in itself is incredible that a vet treating emergency problems every day does not have a proper portable oxygen chamber.) What they did was take masking tape and attach a mask to my pet carrier (half of which is made up of gaps and vents to allow visibility and air-flow. In addition the oxygen tank was not even working - there was the faintest whiff of oxygen coming out. When I complained (but only to the technicians because all the vets had promptly left either at 6.00 pm or before about the set up of the oxygen tank and that it certainly was making no positive difference to my cat, the whole group of ragged technicians insisted that they were providing ""state-of-the-art"" service! What a joke! \n\nWhen i got to the emergency clinic they could not believe that a professional vet service (actually very expensive) did not have or would not provide a proper oxygen chamber for my cat. The very next morning instead of going to VCA I had already decided to choose another vet and have them take care of my cat and they could not believe how unprofessionally VCA had behaved. \n\nThey are very expensive, gloss over their charges and try to bait you to spend more money while having very little interest in the pet's actual health. \n\nYou never know whether to believe them for the sake of your pet's health or decline what you suspect might be a con on their part to get more money out of youit is this lack of trusting what they say that confirms you need to go elsewhere!\n\nMy friend also adopted two cats from Austin Humane Society and they are constantly scratching their ears. A different vet from VCA saw them and told her on more than one visit that there was nothing wrong with the cats. She then took the cats to another vet who confirmed that each cat had an infection in their ears!\n\nThat same vet on my prior visit could not find my cat's but-hole to stick a thermometer in! She was meant to take my cat's temperature and then said now it wouldn't make any sense because she had agitated the cat so much that her temperature would be abnormally high and give a false positive! Erthat's why you should know what you are doing in the first place. She then tried to inject my cat and the injection went through her skin and straight out again through another part of her skin! She had to get another needle to give the injection. She had my cat so pissed at her that she was hissing at the vet! \n\nAVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE! \n

Im going to try to be unbiased, but I know it will be hard because of my terrible experience. Condescending staff, bombardment of sales pitches including making you feel bad if you dont get every single last medicine to prevent problems your dog may not even come in contact with, over-priced, low quality of professionalism. They wanted to perform a shot for my Pup in the back. I told them that I would have to oversee it to make sure it was administered. They looked at me like I was eccentric lunatic, but eventually agreed. When the person came out to give the shot she dropped the syringe which was carelessly hanging out of her front pocket in her scrubs. My dog then started trying to play with it and she seemed to think it was cute and after a second took it away from him. This is just all around unprofessional. Also when they went to the back I (unbeknownst to them) followed them part of the way so I could hear their conversation, which involved badmouthing me for not getting the RX flea control, and describing me as some nut job who HAD to have the shot performed under his conditions.\n\nThey have no respect for your relationship with your pet. It's all money and RX sales down at VCA NW. Please if you care about your dog don't take them to this place.

We've seen two vets here, and both were very relaxed and kind with our two terrier mix dogs, and had non-alarmist attitudes which as a worrier, I really appreciated. Our two dogs got in a fight and one had her ear bitten which we thought had been a superficial wound and didn't take her in, turns out it wasn't and it got infected. We felt so bad. The vet could have lectured us on not bringing her in right away, or said how painful this must be for our dog, or how bad it looked, etc but she had a very calm seen-it-all approach, and seemed to understand that mistakes can be made...sedated her to stitch it up and provided pain meds to give her and such, so not downplaying it, but also not fueling our guilty and worry with hypotheticals and possibilities like some docs/vets can do. \r\n\r\nAlso, this same dog (yeah, she is kind of a handful) goes into crying, foaming-at-the-mouth hysteria when you try to trim her nails (as in, all the staff come to look in at what is going on). It was this vet clinic that suggested we have her sedated and quick her nails/cut them short a few times a year since it is so traumatic for her, and they didn't feel comfortable doing it otherwise. Other places had just insisted on holding her down to do it, which we thought was borderline inhumane but what do we know, the vets are the experts (though a ridiculous reaction on the part of our dog, it was clearly a very real panic attack which was horrific for her and anyone there). \r\n\r\nAlso, I like the vibe in there, it feels like a local business, kind of like a general store or something, not all overly sterilized/hospital-ish.

Pros: Warm staff, take walk-ins on weekdays, lowkey vibe

Cons: Can be expensive...isn't it always?

I work in the service industry so I used to come inside this clinic often. My job required me to go to the back areas of the clinic and because I have some inside knowledge of what goes on back there, I feel it is my duty as a citizen to report what I have witnessed with my own eyes. Plus, my friend went there the other day, (I didn't refer him) ,and he also did not like the place. The man that owns this place yells at the employees as well as the animals. Maybe that is why they treat the animals in the kennel so badly. I have witnessed these kids yelling at the animals in the cages for nothing more than barking. I think the reason they take the animals back to this separate room is so that the owners will not see this and I just feel it is my responsibility to inform the public not to take their pets to this place. I know that I would not want my animals treated the way they are at Northwest Hills Pet Clinic. Also, I told my boss that I refused to service this pet hospital ever again.

I have had a great experience except for waiting a long time the last visit and the billing department being a little slow. One more thing, They sold me heartworm medicine that was 4 times what I can pay for through PETMEDS. Buy your medication online!

I've been going to this vet for years and I really trust them. Yes I pay a little more, but wouldn't you for your pet's health? One of my cats has a very serious heart condition and they have been wonderful. When my cat required surgery they were on the phone with me immediately before and after the procedure, describing step by step how it went. Further, my cat's cardiologist says Northwest Hills is an excellent clinic. That just confirmed what I've felt for years about them.

I have been using this vet clinic for years. I have also used many other vet clinics in this city and can honestly say that this is by far the best! About these poor reviews- I think maybe the problem lies not with with the pet owner and not the vet clinic. Guess what pet owners??? We are consumers! It is up to us to ask about prices and stay informed. The vets at this clinic are doing what they were trained to do-and at no small cost. Most veterinarians owe $75,000-$100,000 in student loans upon their graduation and yeah, they have to run a business. If they don't charge the consumer for their very expensive time and expertise, how would they continue to provide us with great care and new eqiupment? How would they hire the best staff? Maybe all of the reviewers who rated this clinic poorly because of money need to remember that age old saying- you get what you pay for! \r\nAlso, I have never been treated poorly here. Everyone from the receptionist to the technicians and the manager have been nice to me, my pets and my friends whom I have sent here. \r\nMost importantly, the doctors here are amazing! They truly take pride in their job and it shows. Dr. Kelly-even for his lack of bedside manner, is certainly one of the best veterinary surgeons I've used. So is Dr. Riddle who is also one of the nicest people I've ever met. Dr. Buel and Dr. Hardy are great and Dr. Maltby is the kind of vet that vet schools just don't churn out anymore- loves your animals like they were her own. \r\nAlso, you don't have to have an appoitment to go here. Walk in: service when you need it. What more could you ask for in a vet clinic? Maybe those of you who wrote poor reviews about this clinic need to adjust your expectations about what is costs to own pets or even better, find our before getting one.

I have been taking my seven year old pugs to this clinic for 6 and a half years and have been nothing but overwhelmingly pleased. My male pug, ""Lance"" sustained an injury to his eye during the night which required a visit to an emergency clinic. After their horrible butcher job in which they attempted to save but actually destroyed his eye, I had to choose another vet out of thin air. I hastily chose northwest hills because of proximity to both my house and the emergency clinic. Dr. Kelly performed the exam and informed me that the eye would need to be removed. When I went to retrieve Lance the following day, Dr. Kelly came to greet me holding him in his arms. He seemed to be talking more to the dog than to me as he discussed how well he did and what type of care would be required. \r\n\r\nMore recently, Dr. Buehl was an amazing help as I brought in my female pug, ""Kayla,"" into the clinic with a broken leg. Not only did she provide my dog with excellent care, she treated me with incredible kindness and was able to calm me down from hysterics. The staff allowed me to visit Kayla several times throughout the ordeal and helped me make the difficult choice on the best course of action. The chosen surgery was ultimately performed by a Veterinary Specialist elsewhere on Dr. Kelly and Dr. Buehl's Recommendations. Dr. Buehl phoned to check on her after a week or so had passed and I was very impressed by this level of care and service.\r\n\r\nI have a great deal of respect for every member of the staff at Northwest Hills Pet Clinic and would never dream of taking my dogs elsewhere. They continue to suprise and impress me with the simple ways that they go above and beyond their job requirements to show how much they care for the animals they treat. I have been blessed with two inquisitive and accident-prone pugs and I consider myself lucky to have stumbled upon the excellent care and service provided by the wonderful doctors and technicians at Northwest Hills Pet Clinic.

Ahhhhhhh, we meet again. I must first state the disclaimer that this happened years ago, however, it happened, and I have never forgotten it. \r\n\r\nI brought one of my cats here to be spayed - in part because they worked with volunteer organizations to provide low cost spay and neuters. When I arrived with my cat, they asked me to sign paperwork that stated my cat would be bathed. I asked ""for what""? And they said, for fleas. I stated my cat did not have fleas - they stated every cat has fleas. I told them I was not signing the paperwork as I have lived with my cat for years and would know better than them if she had fleas. One of the techs came from the back at this point and started running a flea comb through her and came up with 0 - nothing. So they then stated they would do the procedure without me signing the form but if they happened to find any fleas later, they would bathe her. When I picked her up, guess what was on my bill??? And, even worse, since I was not the original owner of the cat, I did not know she had already been spayed and I was very upset that the vet went through with the procedure (cutting her open) as it is my understanding you can clearly see the previous scar once you shave the animal's belly.\r\n\r\nEvery time I drive by this place, I am disgusted.\r\n

DO NOT GO TO THIS VET! I waited a good amount of time before I wrote this review. I wanted to take my time and think about the situation. First, I read about some of the bad reviews regarding Northwest Hills Pet Clinic on this site before still calling and going to this Vet. That was my first mistake. So why should I complain, they told me not to go there. Well at the time, I just wanted to spay a cat, how hard or costly can that be? Well,I learned my lesson. So again, to my fellow Austin residents, DO NO GO TO THIS VET! So how can this Vet botch a simple spay and screw the customer? They can make a mangled zigzag incision on the cat (you should have seen this) which harbored bacteria causing an infection for which this lovely Vet charged $50 for a $10 (5x actual cost) bottle of antibiotic to treat the infection they caused! During the filling of the paperwork, they were very pushy with all of the ""extras"" which I refused. Based on the response to this infection, I believe this is how they make their extra money. I think this Vet should be investigated. Feel free to contact me about my review. Thanks.

I've been taking my many cats to Northwest Hills since 1985. I have lost count of the number of times that these vets have saved my cats lives, including several emergency surgeries performed by Dr. Kelly, who must be the most skilled vet surgeon in the city. Every one of them truly loves these animals and it shows. Also, I'm never rushed out of the office; in fact, there have been many occasions when a vet has talked with me and tended to my cats for 45 minutes or more. I have exclusively used Dr. Buel and Dr. Maltby for years(I also liked Dr. Stewart very much when he was there) and they treat my cats as if they were theirs. This clinic tends to be pricey but based on my experience with some other local clinics (as related to my volunteer work with a rescue organization), I feel like I'm getting what I'm paying for. I should mention also that the front desk staff members are friendly and prompt without fail.

Pros: Excellent care, compassion

Cons: Pricey

Dr. R. J. Kelly\t\t\t\t\r\nNorthwest Hills Pet Clinic\r\n3426 Greystone Dr.\r\nAustin, Texas 78731\r\n\t\t\t\t\tRe: My dog,Pete, and Dr. Riddle\r\nDr. R. J. Kelly,\r\n\r\nI brought my now 10 year old Jack Russell, ?Pete?, to your Northwest Hills Pet Clinic almost exclusively for 9 years mostly related to your location. The vets have been ok, but mostly quick, unremarkable and inexpressive. For about the last 5 years I have felt that the profit motive was overwhelmingly your #1 goal. This last visit offended me to the point of sharing my opinion with you, anyone and everyone, and the veterinary association and licensing entities of this state. Even though my experience\r\nmay not indicate any illegal act by the clinic, it certainly is in my opinion ethically and\r\nprofessionally wrong. \r\n\r\nTo pick up Pete and be told, without a phone call to me during the day, that you\r\ntook out 10 teeth and,... by-the-way, here is your bill for $564.... is simply wrong. \r\nMy sister was at another neighborhood clinic today & shared my experience. They\r\nwere astounded. They call the client always.\r\n\r\nMy complaint first, and foremost, was consideration for preserving my dog?s teeth. I don?t think my dog needed mass tooth extraction?10 of them. My dog is quite healthy. I have never seen the loss of a tooth due to looseness, but I realize the tartar was heavy. I believe the vet chose to extract rather than bother with the cleaning the 10 little teeth he extracted. Along with this were, of course, more charges and more meds. Why 3 separate meds this time vs. last visit and extraction? A mouth wash too. Ka-ching, ka-ching.\r\n\r\nThe price is outrageous, but to have taken 10 teeth from my pet without consulting with me is worse. You had my phone number. \r\n

We've been taking our pets to NWHPC since 1993. Yes, Dr. Kelly is terse and sometimes kind of rude, but he's also brilliant. We once took our dog to another clinic for a second opinion on a major surgery that Dr. Kelly had recommended. The second clinic was pretty sure that surgery was the best option, but they wanted to consult with an expert in that area first--Dr. Kelly! They do push a lot of services and meds, but I really feel it's more for prevention than upping the bottom line. If there's a chance that your pet might be in pain and the pain med is safe to use, why not use it, just in case? Those extra bloodwork panels can lead to early diagnosis of diseases that can be treated if found early. I've had good experiences with nearly every doctor there, and they've taken care of my dog and many cats. I've had 2 cats become deathly ill for unexplained reasons. With the first, they took the time to run extra tests, consulted with other vets across the country, sent samples in to the research school for analysis, even did exploratory surgery. After a week, they finally said 'We're sorry, we just don't know'. Not that I was happy to hear this result of course, but their honesty impressed me. And they actually told me they could keep him there and continue care at a $100/day, but instead they wanted to show me how to do it all myself, so that I could take my kitty home. They could have kept him there for that extra money, but didn't. (Max got better, BTW!) The other cat was not able to be saved, as he got sick so fast, but they tried their best--Dr. Buell even offered her own cat as a donor for a transfusion. Even after Shadow passed, they still sent his bloodwork off for analysis, to find out what went wrong. He had become allergic to his own bloodcells, a totally random thing that could not have been cured. I appreciated knowing that we had done nothing wrong. Their knowledge and network of experts on call is worth the extra expense for me.

Pros: highly knowledgeble, good pet care, friendly staff

Cons: a little pricey, doctors are very busy, so sometimes are a bit short with you

I have been taking my pets there for years to see Dr. Dunn but since she has left its just not the same. I finally found her new hospital. its White Angel animal hospital in Lakeway. It a little further to drive, but to have her see my dogs its worth it. I suggest to anyone who wants a doctor who will really treat you and your pet with the utmost care give her a visit. Shes great.

I've taken my dog to this vet clinic several times in the last few months. Drs. Whitworth, Buell, and Dunn are awesome. My dog discovered the joys of cheesewhizz from Dr. Whitworth, and now he is all about being bribed for some! The receptionists and assistants are also very friendly and helpful. I appreciate not having to make appointments, and the staff are very good about calling you with reminders for shots, etc. My only complaint is that sometimes it can entail a bit of a wait. Don't even bother going in at 7am - the vets don't get there until past 8am. I was there recently to pick up some medication and I was there at least 30 minutes. I should have been in and out in 5 minutes. That aside, only good experiences so far!

I normally take my dog to a vet south. However; her regular vet was not available so a friend told me about nwhills. We walked right in and got immediate service. The vets (Drs. Kelly and Buell) were friendly, and very helpful in solving our problem. It is nice to know that if we have a problem that needs immediate assistance they are available for us.

I had to take my cat in for emergency care. The vet was wonderful, but I ran into the first problem when billing didn't start on the day scheduled. I had set it up for them to deduct from my account every Friday. Friday came and went, and nothing was deducted. I tried calling them, and finally got a hold of the head of billing on Tuesday. They told me that they didn't deduct because I had not set up a schedule. I told them that I was looking at my copy of the billing schedule.\r\n\r\nThey apologized, and went on with the billing. Then, when I had trouble with my bank, I asked them to no longer deduct from my account unless I called to verify the payment, otherwise I would come into the office to pay in cash. They said that would be no problem.\r\n\r\nThey went on to deduct from my account causing an overdraft fee.\r\n\r\nWhen I contacted them, they said they would credit it back to my account. I said, ""Make sure you do not do this again."" They told me that the head of billing would contact me later in the day.\r\n\r\nI called back later to find out that the head of billing had gone home 10 minutes prior, and that there was nothing they could do about the charge for 3 more days. They did not credit it back.\r\n\r\nI have talked to 3 different people today, and none of them knew anything about my previous calls. Now I am stuck with overdrafts, and incompetence. I am sure they will still continue deducting from my account unless I go down there and tear up my information.\r\n\r\nGreat care, but don't trust them with your bank information, be prepared to pay in cash or find someone else.

I have been going to Northwest hills for many years for routine check ups for my cats. Recently, one of my cats became extremely ill. She was literally on ""deaths door"". Thanks to Dr.Buel and the caring loving staff of Northwest Hills she has made a complete recovery. I feel certain that without them she would no longer be with us. I am forever grateful to them and so is my kitty!

I took my two dogs to NWHills to have a routine bortadella vaccination and they became deathly ill and underwent months of treatment to recover from, what I now know, was an inexcusable mistake. It was confirmed to me by another veterinarian at different clinic that NWHills had administered the wrong vaccination to my dogs (a fluid sample was taken to confirm this) and that in many cases, this serious error can be fatal to a dog. I learned that it was a vet tech at NWHills that made the error. My dogs are fully recovered but they endured unnecessary pain and suffering from what should have been a routine vaccination. My veterinary bills were well over 2K dollars as a result of this mistake and the only positive thing I can say about NWHills is that they offered to pay for the expenses incurred . However, they did not even admit their mistake to me until after I had already taken my dogs to another clinic and had proof of the error they made. If they had notified me immediately of the error, my dogs would have endured much less pain and suffering.

I took my dog to this vet clinic for over 3 years. While the staff were professional and the care was decent, I became increasingly dissatisfied with them over time. Many of the vets do not have very good interpersonal skills and did not create a pleasant atmosphere to interact with them. The clinic tends to be very medication-focused, and while that may fit the philosophy of many people, it does not with me. I felt pressured to buy the prescriptions and was not offered alternative options. Also, even after I specifically stated on paper that I did not want them to fill any prescriptions, they still filled them. Each bill became more and more expensive. I took my dog in for a simple teeth cleaning (she had her exam the week before and everything looked fine) and the bill ended up being $500 after 2 extractions and meds! That was the last straw and I will be taking my dog to another clinic from now on.

I've read many reviews about this clinic. I worked there for a while. The other employees were great and caring and no doubt that has not changed. This and many clinics out there drive the bottom line. I have not found one that doesn't. Dr. Kelly acts as if he knows everything, and occasionally he does. By being pushy in the clinic and then calling you later to see how it is all going he makes you think he knows everything there is to know. The other doctors discuss things and their diagnosis with each other. Dr. Kelly does not. Then at the end of the night when your sick pet is left in the cage, Dr. Kelly doesn't want to bother answering simple questions about the overnight care. He told me once ""You ask too many questions."" I only wanted to know whether the cat should be fed and if so which food was appropriate. You wonder why the front staff looks stressed out of their minds? Dr. Kelly rants at them for every tiny mistake. Not just a talking to, but full out yelling in front of customers and other employees. He is city wide famous for this! I worked other places and they all knew exactly what I was talking about. Anyone who does this to his employees does not deserve to be trusted with pets. I worked in the back, mostly immune to his rantings, but it was common to have to console a front desk employee along side a recovering dog. I never saw him fully abuse a pet, but unfriendly tactics were used.

I have been taking my pets to these folks for 15 years. I love them so much and have so much faith in them that for the past 9 years i have been driveing from WAY south to see them. Dr. Buell has always been there for me, treating my babies with respect, remembering them and their past diagnosis and personally calling me to keep me in the loop if i had to leave. I tried many vets before and would never go anywhere else. I don't know how their prices compare to other folks but i do know that i would highly recommend these vets who have seen me through 3 dogs.

I HAVE BEEN GOING TO NORTHWEST HILLS PET CLINIC FOR OVER TEN YEARS. MY PETS HAVE RECEIVED PROFESSIONAL, COMPETENT AND COMPASSIONATE CARE. THE DOCTORS AND STAFF HAVE ALL BEEN KIND AND CAPABLE. I WAS VERY SURPRISED TO READ SOME OF THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS. IT SEEMS TO ME THE PRIMARY COMPLAINTS ARE FROM PEOPLE WHO BEGRUDGE PAYING FOR PAIN MEDICATION FOR THEIR PETS AFTER SURGICAL PROCEDURES OR PEOPLE WHO DEMAND DISCOUNT PRICES ON THEIR PETS MEDICINES. 10 to 15 years ago I brought my cats and dogs to this clinic to have them spayed or neutered. That was 7-8 cats and 2 dogs. I have a new puppy that was an extremely healthy purebred Aussie, that had one genetic defect ""Cryptorchidism"" that required an abdominal surgery at the time of neutering. When I picked up my dog he was very lethargic due to the surgery and anesthesia -- but he also had one of the worst bowel problems I have ever seen in a dog. They also sent home pain meds, 5 of them at a cost of 19.25. These pain meds generally cost $.78 a pill and these people charged $3.85 per pill. A day or so later he developed an infection of the site and I returned to their office with him. They ran no test to see what kind of infection nor really cared about the bowel problems -- they gave me a script of antibiotics (I have not researched the overcharge on those yet) and told me to give him one every 12 hrs and also Imodium and Pepto for the bowel problem. He could not keep the antibiotics down -- they came up every time and they said keep trying. After making the puppy wretch his guts up for a couple of days and with only 1 of 9 pills remaining down I discontinued the torture. He is starting to come back to life a bit -- but the bowel movement is still horrible. What -- now I need to have a dog on Immodium for the rest of his life due to something they did? They pretty much ruined this dog for a cost of $400. What happened to this clinic in the past 10 years is beyond me, but they are not to be trusted ever again. I will take the pup to a real vet and find out what is causing the severe bowel problem -- as there has to be an underlying problem they refused to address and this poor pup never had a problem before his visit there. He will have to be taken to another, much more competent vet to find out what went wrong and how to correct the problem. STAY AWAY FROM THESE RIP OFF ARTISTS. They no longer are good careing competent vets.

I am a former employee of NWHPC, I have just had been diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. I probably will never be able to work again, and I was so pleased with my job and the people I worked with at this clinic that I will never forget them. They are all skilled and good-hearted people. They have done nothing but support me in my time of need and do all that they can to help. This is a group of good people who really care about your animals and what is best for them. They take time out to play with your animals and make sure they are comfortable in their environment when hospitalized or in an out-patient surgery and they also make sure that all of your animals boarding needs are taken care of promptly. I can tell you first hand that this clinic is a wonderful place for you to take your pets and that they will receive the best of care.

I didn't know what to expect, this being my first pet, so I thought I just didn't know what I was doing when they kept pushing different products and services every time I went in. But when my dog had a hysterectomy, the vet was very pushy and rude in trying to get me to buy very expensive pain meds for my dog. I wanted to wait until the next morning to see if my dog was in enough pain to justify $20 for 3 pills (I live down the street), and the vet compared my not paying for my dogs pain pills to my husband not paying for pain meds after I have surgery. He raised his voice, demeaning me, and almost made me cry in the office. I recently took my dog to another vet; they didn't push anything and even recommended waiting on some things I thought she might need. Now I know the difference between a good one and one that cares too much about the bottom line. The only up side to NW Hills Pet Clinic: no appointments necessary.

I am sorry to say that the prices do not match the skills.\r\nThey will not release prescriptions or cut a break with them if your cat is very sick.\r\nAfter 7 years I was forced to go elsewhere due to costs.

I am sorry to say that the prices do not match the skills.\r\nThey will not release prescriptions or cut a break with them if your cat is very sick.\r\nAfter 7 years I was forced to go elsewhere due to costs.

Pros: Good location

Cons: Very Expensive

.

While this pet clinic has great service and cares about your pets, they will not release pet prescriptions and will only price match with Petmeds.com. One has to believe that Dr. Kelly and Dr. Hardy have an investment in Petmeds.com. The problem with this policy is that is not posted anywhere in the clinic. The staff knows this but does not mention that this is indeed their policy. Buyer beware. They charge more than double for 6 months of some medications than that of Petmeds.com. You can get a year supply of these same meds for about $20 more than the Petmeds.com 6 months supply price so when you do the math, the savings is more than 60% of the equivalent time and medication from Petmeds.com which means you are saving 260% over the vet. The medication is heartworm medication called Sentinel. I have 5 dogs which are all over 56 pounds. I love my dogs and want them to live but they should not be prisoners of a greedy person. Their excuse.. ethics. Who really has the ethics problems?

We have a 6 month old small yorkipoo and were very nervous about having to board her for a long weekend. The staff and Dr. Faludi were great and assured us she would be well cared for. When I brought her in, I was a mess. Yet, our baby had a fantastic time and the staff went out of their way to play with her and make sure her accomodations were fantastic and comfortable. We love Northwest Hills, especially Dr. Faludi, they are great with small dogs.

I have taken my cats to see Dr. Buell for almost 20 years now. She is GREAT with cats, and I trust her completely. I had never taken my animals to a ""clinic"" before and had some concerns about seeing different doctors, so I made a point to request her every time I went in. She knows and cares about us. It does, however, make it a bit traumatic for us when she isn't there, though the other doctors are also very good. (Dr. Maltby is great w/my brother's dogs.) On Saturdays they don't take appointments and tend to get really busy so you frequently have to wait a long time to see your preferred doctor. I have spent enough time ""behind the scenes"" at the clinic to see how much these people truly care for the animals. They are extremely professional. Dr. Kelly runs a tight ship! :-)

There are no doors in this clinic!! The doctors want you in and out as quick as possible. In the exam room next to us the was a family putting their older dog to sleep. They had no quiet time, and privacy to spend with their beloved family member, because of the ""no doors policy"". I found the doctors very rude, and not very compassionate, very disrespectful!

I have coming to this clinic for 8 years and I would never trust my animals with anyone else. I am very satisfied with the back staff and all the Doctors. I really enjoy Dr. Faludi. The price is reasonable when you compare it to other clinics of this medical quality. The front staff is sometimes misunderstood because they always seem to be so busy. Overall this clinic is GREAT.

I have been taking my Westie here for 5 years. This vet is great for routine check-ups and shots. However, when my Westie starting having severe skin problems I was just told that this breed has allergies and dismissed with some expensive dietary supplement that has not helped. I have taken him there several times and his obvious discomfort have been rudely dismissed every time. At this point I am changing vets hoping to find someone who cares enough to solve the problem. I used to really like them, but they are more concerned with pushing people out of the office and charging you exorbitant amounts (it always ends up being $150 a visit) than actually helping for the last couple of years.

More interested in profit than the best interests of our pets. Shameful!

I've always taken my pets to NW Hills for years. But it is true that the clinic has gotten so successful that they've lost the personal touch that made them special in the 1st place. The front desk has gotten sloppy and don't take time to get to know you anymore. The room setup is a bit like a conveyor belt which is great for efficiency but kind of stinks if your pet wanders. NW Hills is worth it, but you have to speak up and Dr. Kelly WILL listen. I just don't think that anyone tells him that it's a bit lax lately. Dr. Buell is excellent too - especially with cats.

Dr. Kelly is an excellent vet, and there are several others at the clinic. The cost is comparable to other vets, and their terms are reasonable. They will also board your pet when needed. Dr. Kelly or any of the staff will talk to you about your pet, and give recommendations on their care at home. They care about your animals. Dr. Kelly will do ACL surgery, and the cost is 50% less than the Austin specialty clinic. My dog loves to go there.

Perhaps it depends on which vet you get when you walk in, but this place is a compassionless money pit, and some of the professionals who work here have the absolute worst bedside manner I have ever encountered. I recommend you look elsewhere.

Charges a lot of money for prescription and non-prescription drugs for your pet; then won't let you fill the prescription yourself somewhere else. The vet refused to fill a prescription I needed for my dog until I got a bunch of test performed at considerable expense. Vet tech's and support staff are nice however and making dealing with the occife a little better. Dr Ballard has been a good vet and very skilled.

I have been taking my dogs here for 14 years and think they are the best vets in town. I was referred to Dr. Kelly when my regular vet was clueless about what was wrong with my dog. Dr. Kelly immeadiately correctly dianosed her and performed surgery and saved my schnauzers life. I was blessed to have her another 9 years thanks to Dr. Kelly. I highly recomend NWHPC to everyone I know. They are caring and thoughtful to their patients as well as the people who own them. When my dog finally died at the ripe old age of 17, Dr. Kelly later called to check on me. You don't get treatment & tenderness like that from your average vet. I love these people!! They are the BEST!!

I've been bringing my cats here for the past 10 years, and they're a fairly nice clinic. Very clean and professional. But every time I bring my cats (3) in for their annual shots, there is always something extra that I have to spend money on, so I rarely get out of there without spending about $300 for 3 cats.

I have been using this place for years and I am sad to have to leave it as we are moving out of town! My two cats have always been well taken care of. We got good advice on some probs we were having, and they took their time with us. Spaying the cats was also very cheap - under $20. I have seen numerous vets here and all were curteous.
