I was not happy with this vet at all. I took my 16 week old puppy in for his first wellness exam. I wanted to make sure he was nice and healthy after getting him from the breeder. I expected them to check his eyes, ears, nose, etc. But no. All they did was come in and talk to him like a baby. And then the doctor just listed to his heart with the stethoscope. He said my puppy was healthy and that was it. Not to mention that my dog is only 6 pounds and they put 14.8 on his paperwork. I left feeling a sense of uneasiness because that could not have been it. I decided to go with my gut and take him to another vet. They found that he had an ear infection and they treated it. I'm so glad I went somewhere else. If I had listened to what the vet said at VCA Shadeland, my dog would be harboring an ear infection, and I wouldn't have known. Don't go here. They're not thorough at all.

I took my very ill cat in to VCA animal hospital on Shadeland. It was discovered that his sudden weight loss and lethargy was because he had lymphoma - cancer. All the treatment options were well explained to me, and at no time did I think that the care he received was lacking in any way.

With the help of Dr. Jennifer Heidel, we decided not to opt for painful and probably frightening aggressive treatment, which would not have offered a lot of life extension and might have cost him dearly in quality of life. She helped us care for him at home until it was time for him to pass.

She cried when she had to put him down.

ALL my cats are going here.

They are low cost which is great when you have many animals that don't get sick very often. They are also very flexible when it comes to appointments. I was sick with the flu and they rescheduled with no cost or difficulty.

We have 2 dogs and 4 cats and they all go to shadeland animal hospital.

This is my second experience with this facility. I was not satisfied with their level of care my 1st go round with a different pet and this time was far worse. Since our new dog was purchased at a pet store we were required to take him to this vet under the store?s health guarantee. I can only imagine they have some arrangement to keep costs down which is good for their bottom line but as I learned not for your animal?s health. Our dog has been sick and presented the same symptoms for almost 4 months now and has been under their care. Among the congestion, cough, and runny nose, the worst symptom was the constant diarrhea everywhere. Each visit it was a new VAGUE diagnosis that was given along with new prescriptions. Eventually, a pattern emerged: As long as the dog was medicated he was fine but within 24-48 hours of the prescription being gone he became very sick again especially the immediate diarrhea. It wasn?t until almost the 3rd month that at our not so polite insistence that they finally even sent fecal samples to a lab. There was a new diagnosis, new medicine, and then the same cycle continued and he became sick. Finally, they tested him again saying if they couldn?t figure it out they would recommend him to a specialist but they determined it was a parasite so they kept him for almost a week and used various medicines and sent him home. It wasn?t 3 days and he was very sick again. When it came time for them to recommend him to the specialist as promised, they had to call the pet store to get approval before they could recommend it. GOOD vets give recommendations for a dog?s health based on what is in the best interest of the dog?s health not what in the best interest of a company. I was appalled! I?m yet to talk to a vet that wouldn?t have taken more aggressive action or sent him to a specialist much sooner. It is very disheartening to know that. I?ve owned pets for 25 years and have never felt vets could be as incompetent or borderline negligent as Shadeland Animal Hospital has made me feel in my experiences there.

Took my dog here for a minor emergency when my regular vet was closed. The dog's eye was scratched and he wouldn't open it and the eye was watering. The vet was wonderful. Very compassionate and calm in a chaotic situation. He understood my concern for the dog and prescribed eye drops. Would visit again in an emergency situation without hesitation.
