I wish I wrote a review when I got this photographer three years ago. Maybe it would have saved a bunch of people from my experience back in 2007. I do not know why Turtle Bay Resort put this photographer on their list because I think this just screwed their reputation good. I had a destination wedding and I needed a photographer from Hawaii being from Cali and no friends to recommended anyone to me. I took Turtle Bay Resort's recommendation list and called George. I guess I should have gone with my hunch when I talked to him (quiet...not much personality...did not seem enthused to talk to you) but I liked his story book and price so I signed up. I thought the pricing was worded sort of fishy even when I asked...he sort of gave vague answers. You don't get the set price so he can't suck you in for more money (Scam). Anyways, the day came and he was late. When he did arrive and the wedding was about to start...he went based on his timeline....he didn't rush and took his sweet time taking whatever pics he wanted. He was sort of creepy tell you the truth..not very personable. I shook that off in the morning and just didn't let it ruin my day. Luckily I had a friend taking pics on the side because he didn't take many candid shots and didn't ask me what I wished to be in the pictures. I had a small party of 40 ppl and hardly had any personal shots with friends. He only got large group shots. Anyways, when we sat down to talk about price later on that week...we were shocked with the actual price. With all the things he threw in..you are really paying $5000 for the album not including day of photography...im estimating over $7000 total or so. instead of the original price I was mislead about. In the end...we bought the CD of all the pictures for $500 along with paying $3000 or so ahead of time. Yup forget all that ...we just bought the CD. Since I picked up photography I was able to retouch and make my own album. I felt so robbed by this photographer. Really made me mad for so very long. Please do not use this photographer! You will regret it!!! I am typing this 3 years later...come on...that tells you something!

I wish there were more reviews about George Smith Photography to allow consumer to fully ascertain the business. This review I'm adding is on yelp, but I would like to add my same review on INSIDER.

I wish we saw this review before we selected our wedding photographer and signed a contract with George Smith Photography. My wife and I are currently experiencing exactly the same thing. I could repeat word for word the review Jason posted on 12/15/09, but instead of recapping the same story I want to give some advice to anyone who still wishes to work with George E. Smith.

First, if you really want the DVD with all of the images on it you will probably be better to avoid the Storybook Album package and choose one of the other options. You will have a set amount of time for photographs and you won't receive an album, but an additional $250 per hour if you go over your time is a lot less than you will be charged when he puts together your album.

If you still want to work with the Storybook Album package be very specific with your contract. On our contract George handwrote something to the effect of 'Storybook album with a MINIMUM of 50 images' and also 'with acceptance of the album design you will receive the proofs and DVD of all the images'. When you read this, it seems harmless enough but you need to specify the maximum amount of images you will allow in your album or you will end up paying an additional $25 a piece for every extra picture that he adds into the album. This means you need to handwrite somewhere on the contract a statement that the album shall not exceed ## images without your consent. Even though his website advertises the album with 50 images and you get to choose those images, it didn't actually work that way for us. Our album was full of duplicate poses and irrelevant photos that he said captured "the complete story of the day". The album with all of the images (220 total) came with a bill for thousands of dollars for us to pay in order to get the DVD. He was *kind* enough to offer up to a three year payment plan if we couldn't afford to pay thousands of dollars right after our wedding and honeymoon.

Also, one word on the album design layout he provides. We received several 8-1/2 x 11 sheets of white paper with dozens of boxes to designate the album pages. Within each box there were handwritten numbers to indicate which images were to appear on the page. We had to flip though our proof album to match up all 220 image codes to the corresponding pictures in order to get a basic idea of the design. We told George Smith that his initial album design (containing an additional 170 images at $25 each) went well over our budget and we needed to work with him to create an acceptable album design containing closer to the contracted 50 images. He communicated that we were confused about the wording in our contract: if we did not accept HIS first design we were not entitled to receive the DVD or the proofs; subsequent designs, including editing the quantity of images, did not qualify.

This has been a very difficult situation, definitely not how I expected to start married life. I want to make sure that no one else is lured into a seemingly competitively priced contract only to discover that George Smith will exploit the situation to take more of your money in the long run. I cannot have the photographs retaken, and now I truly regret not hiring Chrissy Lambert Photography.

George did more than take great photos of our special day.
He knew everyone's name and was very patient throughout the day. Honored all our requests and delivered everything in the contract within the delivery time as he promised. He included a DVD of all the images
and the complete set of proofs. His 30+ years of experience is a real plus. We highly recommend George.

Pros: Great Photography with a real Pro

Cons: None

.

he mislead me to think i would obtain my photo's from my wedding on a dvd free to print myself. He slapped me with a $4500 bill if i wanted my photos from my wedding on top of paying him $3000 for taking them.
