I'm Joe Solem. I've been a professionaI photographer since 1979, doing mostly advertising and public relations work. After reading kimrose's review I did some checking. I didn't shoot any weddings in July of 2005, so I went back further and there it was in 2003, Kimberly and David. Her mother hired me for one hour's work, including both the photo session and the ceremony. They did not hire me for the reception. They paid around $400 in total, which included film, processing, one set of prints, and the negatives. I shot four rolls of film in that one hour, and took them to be processed and printed at a large and well-known lab (not a pharmacy) where I'd been taking my film with good results for years. Apparently one of their film processing machines was not operating correctly that day, and one of the four rolls was under-processed, resulting in thin negatives. The prints from that roll looked terrible. The lab scanned those negatives, I worked on the digital files in Photoshop, and got another set of prints which looked somewhat better than the first set but not as good as the prints from the other three rolls. I spent hours trying to make it better, and made about six trips back and forth to the lab.

As for her complaints about not taking pictures of this or that, I really can't say since she has the negatives and it was five years ago. I have the digital images from the one roll and there are quite a few of her and her groom. Yes, they are in focus. I make a point of asking people what they want, since everybody's wedding is unique. Usually I suggest they make a written list of "must-have" shots . I don't remember if they had such a list, but I'm sure I tried to do my best to give her what she wanted during that short one-hour time period. It's unfortunate that the lab damaged 25% of her photos, but I can't see how that makes me the "worst photographer on the island". My other clients, some of whom have been using me for over fifteen years, would disagree.

How dissappointed I am that we some how found the worst photographer on the island. I was looking back through my wedding photos as my anniversary is approaching next week. I was married in Oahu in July, and Joe was our photographer. We chose him because for some reason our hotel recommended him, and we were able to purchase our negatives to bring back home with us.

There is not one single photo of the groom standing by himself. NOT ONE!! It's his wedding! There are plenty of me (the bride) by myself however. I do not have a single family photo from my wedding - all my pictures are of the wedding party, us with our siblings, us with our parents, but not a single one of the family together. We were married under a beautiful arbor that was overflowing with flowers, however you can't see it in any of the photos, because the photographer didn't capture it. All of the photos are in the exact same place. The photographer didn't position anyone. We were married just yards away from the beach, but don't have a single photo on the beach or by the water.

I was just married - and with all the excitement, couldn't remember which photos had been taken with whom. That is the photographer's job! It is also his responsibility to make sure that specific moments are captured - i.e., a family photo, a photo with the grandparents, a photo of the groom, etc.

Here's the WORST part -- there are only 2 photos of the bride and groom by themselves, one of which is blurry!! And even worse, a roll of film was messed up in the processing - the roll that was taken during the ceremony!! You know why it was messed up?? Because he has his film developed at local pharmacy stores, not at his own studio!!

I have blurry photos and many examples of the worst photography EVER!! Guests standing in the crowd took better pictures than he did.

DO NOT USE THIS GUY!! HE WILL RUIN YOUR HONEYMOON WHEN HE SHOWS YOU ALL THE PICTURES THAT HE DIDN'T TAKE AT YOUR WEDDING!!

Pros: NOTHING, NOTHING, NOTHING

Cons: BAD PHOTOGRAPHER - I WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO RECAPTURE THE MOMENTS
