I love the popovers on the square. What a great place. The popovers are really the best ever. There can be a line but we didn't have to wait too long. They have fabulous food.

Loved our experience here. The line was long, but it moved fast. We ordered the sundae within a popover - carmelized bananas, homemade chocolate sauce, vanilla bean ice cream and so much more in a warm popover - delicious and meant to be shared! There is seating inside and out - we picked up some great cookie too to bring back for the kids.

My siblings and I hosted a 50th Wedding Anniversary cookout for our parents at New Castle Common this past Labor Day. I wanted the cake to be special, so I ordered it at Popovers. The pastry chef was a young man and very friendly and helpful. We decided on a yellow quarter sheet cake with a lemon curd filling, and butter cream icing. He suggested gold roses for the 50th. I also ordered a dozen chocolate cup cakes for the kids, and asked him to surprise me with the decoration of those, which really got him excited. When I picked up both I was so pleased; the cake was elegant and the cup cakes decked out with fudge and confetti. The woman who iced the cake helped me carry it all to my car a block away. Both the cake and cup cakes were a huge success at the party - out of this world flavor, and many had second and third helpings. I highly recommend Popovers for specialty cakes.

What a WONDERFUL addition to downtown Portsmouth! Their food is terrific, home made sandwiches, soups, and breakfasts. But their pastries and namesake, popovers are to die for. Don't miss this one, and you can enjoy your maple butter outside on the patio.

It has a relaxing atmosphere. It is not your average cafe. Their menu ranges from coffee and wedding cakes to appetizers and after dinner drinks. Where can you go wrong with that menu?

A great place to come for dessert, but be prepared to spend. They also have delicious soups, quiche and other entrees, but again a bit pricey. A nice place to sit and eat both inside and outside. Not as good a selection of coffees as other places around.

Pros: Fantastic Desserts

My wife and I and our 2 year old ate dinner here midweek. There is apparently no table service at this time, which is fine. You order and pay at the front and wait for your name to be called.

The food was average. I had the cuban pork sandwich and potato chips, which was quite salty and certainly nothing to write home about; priced slightly high for a sandwich between $7-9. We had an appetizer, warm soft prezels with crab dip, which cost $11, and included approximately 1/3 cup of dip. The dip tasted slightly of crab--barely. Way overpriced. My wife had a bowl of clam chowder for $4.50-$5.00. It was average in taste. Nothing spectacular.

But the last item is the kicker--- $7.50 for a small 'kids' plate of ziti pasta and butter (two restaurant packs of butter tossed on top of the pasta unopened). Basically about $0.50 of pasta and a couple packs of free butter for $7.50. This is the biggest ripoff on a kid's menu that I've ever seen. What made me even more mad was that there were no prices on the kids menu items. Plus the pasta was undercooked- sorry, my 2 year old doesn't like it el dente. Add on two iced teas for a totoal bill of $38.00. I wouldn't mind the price if the food was great-- but it wasn't even close. It's a small overpriced cafe. Look elsewhere for dinner.

Pros: Clean and comfortable atmosphere. Your kid can be loud without a problem.

Cons: Overpriced average food. Grossly overpriced kids menu.
