I just tried calling them to place an order and the line was disconnected! LOL When we did eat there, we enjoyed the match point salad. Except they never had ALL of the ingredients. . .one time jicama was missing, another time black beans, etc. Each time, I asked them if they had EVERYTHING for the salad, and they said yes!

I'm a former disgruntled employee, and I'm only one of so, so many. The reason is because EMPLOYEES DON'T GET PAID. That's right. Ziltch! This is the most illegal business I have ever seen! Let me break it down for all of you. It starts with Michael Dekhtyar, the owner/operator. He has a peculiar way of conducting business. See, typically you get a job, you work, you get paid. This however, is not how Michael does business. At "Match BBQ & Grill", you get hired on the spot, you work, your paycheck is two weeks late. You talk to Michael, he wraps his arm around your shoulder and assures you from the bottom of his cold incompassionate heart, that he promises to pay you, and gives you a phony bologna deadline. You continue to work, and work some more. You talk to Michael again, after his promised date to pay you has long passed. You finally get fed up with the eviction notices, the notice of termination of service for your electricity, etc back home. Disgruntled, you quit. You go back and talk to Michael. He again, assures you that he's working on getting funds and that you will deffinitely be paid at the end of the week, month, etc. More months pass by. You realise that Michael is full of sh!t, and that you've been taken for a wild ride. Even more disgruntled after several MORE months of begging and pleading for your hard earned cash, you go down to the Pomona Superior Court, and file a lawsuit. Michael gets served his court documents, and you think you've finally got his ass. A couple months or so pass, and you get a letter in the mail from the court. You curiously read the letter, and to your shock, you discover that Michael had requested an extension to your trial date with him, and that the trial date has been moved back by three more months! He will keep doing this until he can't push it back any further. At this point, you want to go smash the windows of both his pathetic, illegal restaurant, AND his $45,000 Mercedes Benz CLS 550 (not that you actually would!). I have yet to know exactly what happens once you finally have your day in court with him, since I'm still waiting. Oh joy. I'm owed money from a bad paycheck for $535.91, dated June 30, 2008. Over a year has passed since I worked there. My old co-worker, a chef, is owed... (hold on to your seats!) $15,000! That's right, that wasn't a typo! FIFTEEN THOUSAND DOLLARS! Let me tell you, he is NOT happy! When it came time for him to register his truck at the DMV, he didn't have the money. So he called Michael and begged and pleaded with him for some of the money. Michael actually went down to the DMV with him, and wrote a check on behalf of this ex-chef. A week or so later, he gets a letter in the mail from the DMV, informing him that the check had bounced, and that he now owed like three hundred something dollars! So far, he has gone out and got a lawyer to help him. I don't know anything else at this point. I have found two other ex-employees on the internet, and they too have similar stories. The bartender that worked there while I was there, used to tell us fellow co-workers, that he was like four paychecks behind, and that he was living in his apartment with multiple eviction notices, no electricity, no gas, and no water. Hearing from co-workers about being two, three, four or more paychecks behind, was commonplace there. The old head chef had bought a new car, and lost it because he couldn't make the payments. He came in a while later after he quit, begging for money because he couldn't afford food for his wife and kids. He walked out empty handed, back to his old beat-up Thunderbird. Any business owner in their right mind, would feel absolutely terrible and sorry about this, shut down, and pay off all their former and current employees. Michael however, is not in his right mind. Do you know what he does instead? He puts up his "Help Wanted" sign, and hires a whole new set of employees to keep his illegal sh!thole running! Then the same damn things happen all over again! Another bunch of disgruntled ex-employees are born over a few short months. He must have DOZENS of ex-employees after him in court! I know of at least a few. I don't know how this guy stays in business, he has been doing this for about a year now. Think twice about eating there! The money will go straight to Michael's pocket, so that he can do things like have the oil changed in his Mercedes! It won't go to his hard working employees that make business possible. When I come here - I immediately wanna party. The ambiance is great. But that's where it ends.

The food is mediocre.
Only been here 3 times. Twice as Herman's. Once as Match.
Won't be back.

Wait, yes I will. The only thing happening with this place is the bar. These bartenders know their sh!t

I don't understand why this place can't get it together.

It has so much potential - but I've cooked better food in my Easy Bake Oven.

First the good. Paradise salad was fresh and tasted great. Jerk chicken wings were excellent. Temperature-wise, the wings could have been hotter. They may have been sitting on the counter for a bit before they were brought out. By the way, they were brought out a good 10 minutes after my wife's salad - this would never happen in a real restaurant. Corn bread with the BBQ was also good.

On to the bad: The chips they bring out first are old fried flour tortillas. They are served cold sprinkled with Lawry's seasoning and no salsa dip. Cold grease and Lawry's seasoning, barf.

My wife ordered a baked potato. Before the order went out, the expediter (cook at the counter) presumably saw something wrong, took it back to the kitchen, and stuck it in the microwave. The taste was alright, how do you foul up a baked potato? We were trying to figure out the cheese it was topped with - something on the order of Kraft cheddar.

I ordered a half rack of beef ribs with a side of mac & cheese. This is where they lose the right to have the word BBQ on their sign. The ribs were garnished with parsley which was annoying to pick off. Meat was tough, salty, not properly smoked and screamed "I was baked in an oven". On real barbeque ribs, the membrane on the bottom of the bone along with the meat should peel right off. Not so at Match Grill, the membrane and meat were glued to the bone. The BBQ sauce is weak, not spicy or sweet it was just there.

Mac & cheese appeared to be the same cheese used on the potato. Noodles were overcooked and mushy. Taste was bland. At first spoonful I thought "velveeta".

Service was mediocre. There were four ladies up front but only two appeared to work the supposed 5000 sq foot dining area. I ran out of iced tea at least 3 times and it took a few minutes to get a fill up. The expediter did not appear to be super competent with the service as our appetizers arrived well apart from each other.

This used to be Herman's BBQ which was also not a great place to eat. We gave it a second chance and is definitely thumbs down. Go down the freeway a bit to the real BBQ joint... the one with the singing cowboy outside.

Match BBQ and Grill is in the same spot that Herman's used to be in (near Walmart and Winco) but the food is 100 times better! The ribs are tender and flavorful, the jerk chicken wings are the best wings I've ever had, and the hamburgers are the best in Southern California. The crabcakes are worth ever dollar they charge - all crab with hardly any filler. I recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for high class bbq in Pomona. Yum!

This restaurant is also known as Herman's. I went there for a birthday celebration. The staff was friendly. The food was adequate, but not spectacular. The atmosphere was typical of a BBQ place. It is located in a shopping mall and not a bad place to get a quick meal.
