If you are looking for a super fun night out with decent food at a great price then this restaurant delivers. It is super tiny and very cozy, filled with an assortment of christmas lights and sparkly decorations but the place is always packed and someone is always celebrating a birthday...which prompts the music to get louder and people to sing. The waiters are hilarious, I recommend trying the assorted appetizer platter to get things started.

We wanted to try some other Indian restaurants. Eventhough our friend had recommended us to stay around Lexington ave, since we were already in East Village, and also we always pass by the long line for this place, we decided to give it a try. The price was very cheap (This is always good!!) but we weren't impressed with the rest... Well, we didn't mind about the place being tiny. Actually, the decoration (with the crazy lights) was pretty cool we thought, and the staff was friendly, also. However, their food were very bland... Not much flavor to them, even when they say, "spicy!!" and Tandoori chikens were over cooked (coverd in charcoal)... We don't think our expectation was too high for a "cheap" meal, but it was their qualification that was too low to be at least reasonable for the price. (Because we know that there are great restaurants who serve wonderful meals for "cheap" prices)

And saving the worst part for last... My friend spent the rest of that night in her bathroom...so sorry...
We will go back to Lexington ave. for a good Indian food from the next time.

If you are looking for a cheap meal with interesting stories to follow, definitely go to Milon. I have never paid over $11 for an entire meal (drink, appetizer, main course, ice cream) here. The staff and decor are both highly entertaining-there are happy birthday banners all over the place as well as Christmas decorations. Also, expect a hug from a member of the staff on your way out.

Unique ambiance with excellent food and good service. Tandoori chicken off the bone was excellent. Coconut soup was great. Found that the Bangladeshi competitors next door can become aggressive when promoting patronage at their restaurant though. Highly recommended for tourists because of the decor. I think that they filmed "Along Came Polly" with Jennifer Aniston and Ben Stiller here. Definitely worth checking out if you dont mind all the heckling of the homeless on the surrounding blocks.

all the great reviews you read below are accurate. great simple cheap food. place is crazy cramped but fun all the same. they managed to fit about 15 people around 4 tables that normally would fit 10 comfortably. red chili pepper lights that hang so low you hit them each time you stand up. make friends with babu.

I LOVE this place! It is incredibly tacky & cheesy, but that's exactly what you come for, and it's also BYOB. They don't take reservations, so prepare for a wait. It's a tiny, cramped little restaurant, so you get to know your neighbors well, and you can't help but hit your head on the hundreds of chili lights dangling from the ceiling. The food is so good, and unbelievably cheap. Go for your birthday, and they'll turn on the disco lights and sing a Bhangra birthday song to you. So much fun!

One of my favorite restaurants! Tacky ambiance, dirt cheap prices, great food, BYOB, great service, what more can you ask for? Become a regular and you get "star" treatment :)
Great place to take your friends on their birthdays, just be prepared to tightly packed in. Its worth the trouble.....

Crazy lights, wacky decoration, BYOB, Cheapy Indian Food while hearing hip/reggae/house mix of indie songs... What else you can ask for. Fun to go there for someone's bday and dont forget the booze!!!

I am Indian and this is absolutely the worst Indian food I have ever had in my life. We ordered three different dishes and each one was blander than the next. Anyone who thinks this is good Indian food needs to try to real thing. The food is cheap and the atmosphere is crazy but the food really isn't worth the ten dollars you spend. They couldn't even manage to get the naan right, they brought us out pita bread trying to pass it off as naan. I would recommend trying any of the other Indian food chains in the city over this place.

If you ever remember saying to yourself "This is the weirdest place I have ever been to," you will be wrong! because you haven't been to Milon. The host even brought out a nice plate of "bread chips" for our group to eat. Our group of 12 could easily fill up the entire space of this place yet magically we fit in with another 30! Personal space was not to be had and several times during the night couples mistakenly groped the wrong leg. The food is tasty and cheap (very), the staff is willing to please, you can bring your own alcohol, and everyone will definitely feel much closer to each other by the end of the night. There is also a very interesting Indian birthday song and strobe lights (a waiter turning the switch on and off!).

Bottom line: Good food, cheap, and oh yeah, bring a camera!

I would recommend this restaurant for anyone who wants a change. This is the type of place you can go on a date (it'll definitely give you something to talk about), or just hangin' out with friends.

A friend of mines told me about this restaurant about 3 years ago...and i recommend it to my friends.

The chili pepers and red wall paper is hard on the eyes...but you get used to it!

Just remember your personal belongings when you leave, since it'll probably be on the floor.

the best place to go on your birthday - or better yet to recommend for someone else's birthday; milon comes up with the indian birthday song, strobe lights and a candle in your mango ice cream dessert (always free of charge). come often and then you can specify that you don't want to be bussled out - it's so busy all the time that this is the main problem with the place!

Woo-hoo! My absolute favorite of all the indian row joints! Don't miss their Saag Vindaloo - it's a glorious (and HOT) take on a classic that I've never encountered anywhere else. Just don't bring a big group...

I beg my friends to join me at this place! The food is unreal and a dinner for four (and I mean eating til you are overfull) will cost you about $30 ... you can't beat that with a stick. BYOB.

One thing to remember though, always go to the left. You'll know what I mean when you get there.

Pros: Fabulous Ambiance, Great Food, Attentive Service

Cons: Tough for the Tall, Usually Hot Inside

There's usually a wait outside Milon, despite the three seemingly identical neighboring restaurants. For good reason. Milon is packed with energy, from the red pepper-shaped lights that adorn - heck, that ARE the ceiling - to the semi-attentive marathon-running waiters. Pretty much all the standard NYC Indian fare is executed well - and it's absurdly cheap. Take your meal with a Mango Lassi (rich mango milk-shake ambrosia of the gods) and some excellent, warm Nan (comes with dipping sauce). AND. Tell a waiter it's someone at your table's birthday. Just do it.

Pros: Food, Price, Birthday Treatment

Cons: Service, Width of a dorm bed

.

First off, the food is delicious and is ridiculously inexpensive. The service is friendly and they really seem to appreciate their regulars (although I'm not one). But the place is so small you're literally rubbing elbows with the diners next to you (avoid the back of the restaurant, it gets really narrow). The decor is gaudy to the point that it becomes interesting. It's BYOB if you like alcohol (which keeps the bill down too).

Cons: Sooo Small, no booze

Seriously, the doormen of Milon and the competition right next door try to get you in at their respective restaurants! It just adds to the fun! I took my brother here on his first trip to NYC, we ate way too much food for under 20 bucks for the both of us! Yet the service is that of a $50+/person meal!
It is an experience! I love this place it is a special find!
