Horrible experience getting color there! DO NOT GO... the man who did my color did not listen to what I asked for... I even brought photos of myself from before when I had the color I wanted and still he did what he wanted and it looks

Color: If you want to pay many hundreds of dollars ($450before tip if I remember correctly) for orangey brassy hair, this is the place for you. I honestly don't understand what the disconnect is there. I'm not going to call out the name of the colorist - but I went more than once to their highest priced colorist with brassy brassy results. As someone below mentioned it will be blamed on your hair color. Somehow amazingly my new colorist is able to give me the non-brassy highlights I want - must be magic.

Cuts: Honestly, they are excellent and well pieced for the precision you get -- the only reason I gave the salon 2 stars.

Ambiance: The Salon is adorable and the staff is polite and professional.

I was a first time customer and traveled 4 hours to get to the salon. Totally worth the trip! First Jeffrey gave me a gloss treatment. Then Hana cut my hair. In the past, everyone cuts too much length and I've been very unhappy with so many stylists. Not Hana! She gave me a great haircut while keeping my length. Also a great blowdry that has lasted half a week and looks like it will last another week!

It was expensive, but in the past I've paid less and was so unhappy. Also, the pampering feeling at the salon made me feel as if I'd taken a weeks vacation!

The new location at Mark Hotel created a disaster for me. I got my appointment with Tammy who is supposedly the director and a senior colorist!
I got highlights done and after four hours and four time processing as she blamed it on my hair color which is dark brown, I ended up with rusty red highlights with brassy shadows within my brown hair!
The worst part was she kept blaming my hair type which was a virgin dark brown color. She refused to correct my hair disaster and I missed an important event and every other salon I tried said, she had ruined my natural hair and I had to wait till it grows back and there is nothing they can do to fix the damage she had done with using the wrong color and damaging my hair with overprocessing with different chemicals. Just imagine losing your natural brown hair color and getting damaged hair after four hours of being subjected to chemical processing and at the end the attitude and overprice charge! She can not do dark brown hair highlights, do not try this colorist it if you do not want damage to your natural long hair which takes years to undo!

Review of The Mark Frederic Fekkai:
This place is a factory with no quality control.

In short, they highlight you every six weeks rather than just color the regrowth the way other salons do. Color technique is old fashioned and damaging!!!

I had been going to the salon for some time and got good, but not great, results. I continued to go because I liked my hair dresser and thought she was being honest when she told me that she was "working towards" the color I wanted. I thought we had a good, honest relationship. On my final visit, my hair was horribly miscolored-- I asked for light brown with blond highlights and brought in tons of pictures-- and got dark orange brown!!! It was so bad that other people in the salon were confidentially telling me it was terrible. When we finished, I told the hairdresser that it was not what I wanted, and she told me to "live with it a couple of days". She already had her coat on and obviously had someplace to go. I saw the manager the following day who suggested I asked for this color. When I showed her the pictures I brought in (fortunately I brought them back with me), she sheepishly said that they would re do the color. The head colorist tried her best to fix me, although was clearly annoyed stiff that this was thrust on her. She did an OK job but was distinctly unpleasant. Finally, my hair started breaking from all the chemicals and looked terrible for the next 6 months.

I've been to Vidal Sassoon, Oscar blandi, bumble & bumble.. almost every good hair salons in nyc.

I must say that Frederik Fekkai is the best. Today was my first time. Creative director Seiji Kitazato cut my hair and he was just amazing. No matter what salons I went to, I always could find something bothered me. Seiji knew what I really wanted after we had a few min conversation. This friendly hairstylist Seiji is the most talented hairstylist I ever met.
My hair condition was so bad and he suggested me to cut little more that I expected to maintain my hair healthy and look good. Although I ended up cutting more than I expected, the result made me just so happy.

I didn't have a chance to do color today but I'm planning to go back in a few months.

The salon staff, the service, Seiji Kitazato - just everything was so great and I can't wait to go back! :)

I have been going to the salon on Fifth Avenue regularly for about two years now. My hair looks fantastic! Every senior stylist has given me incredible haircuts.

Georges does my color, and he is a genius. When I first went to him, my hair was just recovering from a bad colorist at another Fifth Avenue salon -- she had literally fried my hair, and a whole section had fallen out as a result. Once the hair grew back in, after much care and pampering from Fekkai's stylists, Georges started working on my color. It has looked fantastic ever since -- the right shade for my skin, glossy, just perfect.

Go see Manana or Fal fro an eyebrow wax -- you won't regret it! And sit back for a mani or a pedi that is heaven-sent.

BTW, they no longer charge for beverages, so feel free to sip a cup of tea while the staff makes you beautiful . . .

For what you get, this Salon is over-rated. The stylists are ok. The first time I went to Brandon, I was somewhat satisfied but each time thereafter it has been a disappointment. They only know how to give one cut on long hair. The pretentious and abnoxious attitudes becomes a real turnoff after the first visit. The sylists are always running late and aren't very personable. And if I'm paying $160 for a haircut, I do expect not to be charged $5 for a perrier! On top of that the stylist doesn't even blowdry your hair, there's an assistant. So by the time you're done paying for your mediocre hair cut, you're out $200+ after paying for the haircut, the water, and tipping the stylist, the shampoo person and the assistant.

Last week I went to Frederic Fekkai for the first time and I had the most amazing experience. Jacklyn did my
color and Amy cut my hair and It never looked better. Everyone was friendly from the housekeepers to the managers. The salon was beautiful and I highly recommend anyone to go. I know I will be returning for sure!!!

I am someone who has gone to some of the best salons in the city and I would have to say that despite the lovely decor at Fekkai the service was the worst and the color job I had done was not worth the money. I would also advise that you ask about additional charges as they truly nickle and dime at this salon which is surprising for an upscale salon. I paid $2.75 for a diet coke which was offered to me..and then after recieving a terrible blowdry by my colorist assistant I was also charged.

I really would recommend walking up the block to Vidal Sasoon or over a few blocks to Bumble and Bumble before spending your money here.

The best brow waxing I have ever had is with Manana, recommended to me by a friend. She is no nonsense about her job, arches beautifully and cleans up your brows to perfection. She's a "senior eyebrow specialist", which is a snooty way of saying you'll pay around $50; however, brows can make a face, and she is the best!!!

You people are soooo stupid. The place is most likely full of good stylists- it is the business that is at fault. They run on 15 minute appointments for a haircut- stylists ideally work on hourly appointments. That is why you are rushed, get dodgy service and why they are always running behind and are stressed. A famous UK stylist married an American and went to work there- stayed for a day and walked, she was used to having hourly appointments. You get pampered, no rush and a magic haircut. This person has since been America's Hairdresser of the Year, more than once. Who is right?

Is it place to be seen or good service you want?

Do yourself a favour and look further afield unless all you really want is to be seen with "Z" list celebrities- if so get a life.

I went to Frederic Fekkai for the first time about six months ago. I recieved great service and a fantastic haircut from Giovanni. He was proffesional and not to mention very handsome. Since then I have returned several times to both the 5th avenue and soho locations for blowdries. I reccomend Nicole in Soho and Hana in 5th ave for great blowdries. I read all the other reviews on here and I think everyone doesn't know good hair when they see it. I have had nothing but great service from everyone in both locations, including the managers.

I gave it an extra star because of the free apple. I had a manicure scheduled with Alexandra and not only did they forget about me, I sat there for an hour and a half and no one asked me if I needed anything. Ultimately they made me leave without my manicure because Alex was already booked!!!!!!!!! I told them unless I get a gift certificate for a free manicure next time I could not come back, They said no, but they could give me a free bottle of Hair Shine worth about 10 bucks...gimme a break.

I have been desperately searching for a hair cut in NYC ever since I moved here about one month ago. I have heard mixed reviews about Frederic Fekkai, but they had convenient hours, and I know the salon is very reputable, so i figured, it couldn't be bad. When I got there, I told my stylist exactly what I wanted and it seemed like we were on the same page. They spent about 4 minutes washing my hair...and about the same time cutting it...all while I was standing up. After all was said and done, I was $200 dollars down, and walked out looking EXACTLY the same as I did when I walked in. When I complained to my stylist, and told him I wanted him to do more, he refused, and then pushed me out the door. The atmosphere there is so pretentious, they don't care about you, or your wants or needs, and I left feeling extremely. I would normally not be interested in writing any sort of review, but this experience was so bad, I felt I had no choice. Go somewhere else.

Every POOR review is CORRECT. I have NEVER in my life (of salons) been treated so badly and my hair is a mess. I went to the Soho salon and have been going to Jamie. He had me in tears and burnt my hair.

This is not worth themoney. My friend and I went for haircuts with Mia. We were scheduled for appointments one after the other. it became a disaster. She didnt listen to me when I told her i wanted anew style and described it to her very clearly. She cut it the same way but at the same time she was trying to finish my friends. So she became overwhelmed very quicklly as she was falling behind. It was lik she was paniced, The more crazy she got the worse the haircut became. This is the worst cut i have had in 20 years in New York. Even cheapos. My friends hair was uneven and chopped. It looked awful. We have both spend another 200 to get them fixed. Worst of all is the front desk. They are rude and really dont help at all. We both called and left messages for the manager to no avail. No one calls back or gets on the phone or sends a letter, nothing. We left messages for the manager, a Miss Bao.They dont care. This may have a high end name and gets all the out of towners but believe me it is not worth it.

I walked into Fekkai @ 5:00 pm on a busy Saturday for a consult with Jeffrey Tam who was recommended by one of their stylists to a friend of mine. I was so disappointed about highlights I received the day before from Salon AKS that I got depressed every time a passed a mirror. I do not live in NYC and get to the city about three times a year. Jeffrey didn't know me from a hole in the wall but he came out to the front and squeezed me in on the spot. Not only did he correct the color, he didn't bad mouth the job done by the other colorist and gave me some advice on what to ask for when I am at home. He even encouraged me to call him if I had any other questions. I have been to some upscale salons (Salon AKS and Rita Hazan) but from now on, Jeffrey will be the only colorist I will see when I come to the city.

I have been a loyal Frederic Fekkai customer for 15 years following the salon from it's original location at Bergdorf's to 57th Street, and now to the new Fifth Avenue location. My regular hair dresser is now on a reduced schedule making appointment setting challenging. I've tried for 2 weeks to get an apointment. I've made multiple phone calls and have spoken with 5 different people including the manager. Tonight, after 10 minutes trying to find a mutually acceptable appointment time, the desk manager Melanie actually hung up the phone on me! I was stunned.

I'm incredibly disapointed by the way I was treated. Generally the service at Frederic Fekkai is good and my hair cuts have been wonderful. I've never been hung up on before. It's very rude. I feel terrible that after all these years I won't be going back to the salon and my hair dresser won't know why.

I've been coloring my hair for the past 15 years and this was by far the worst experience of my life. I had heard really good things about this salon, and saw that Citysearch editor's had rated it the top pick for a hair salon, so I decided to visit the salon to touch up my roots. My hair has been reddish blonde for years and I wanted to keep it that color--just freshened up. The colorist tried to persuade me to go brown and I refused. I said that if she didn't feel comfortable coloring my hair the way I wanted, I could see someone else. I should have walked out then because the end result was unbelievable for a top salon. However, the colorist, Elizabeth, insisted that she knew what to do. She began by coloring my roots bright red and then bleached out the rest white blonde. Following this she put on a rinse to the bleached part so that it did look a nice strawberry color. The cost was $300. However, the next day when I washed it--all the wash rinsed out and I was left with an inch of bright red roots and the rest was bright white. Furthermore, the bleach job totally fried my hair. My hair had never ever looked that bad--including the time my cousin colored it in jr high school. The salon offered to recolor my hair (with a different colorist) for free, who insisted that I had to dye it dark red/brown to sink into --leaving me with red roots and much lighter other parts--nothing was blended at all. I've had to have it recolor my hair six times since that color experience (just two months ago) and have spent more than $1000 on trying to fix my hair. I was so shocked and disappointed that a highly rated professional hair salon could do such a really bad job. I would caution anyone from going there.

I have gone to Fekkai several times, I started going to see Brandon Shin at the 57 St location 6 years ago. Brandon did amazing cuts however a good friend of mine opened a salon, so I have been going to him for the past year. I wanted to try Fekkai again, I have been to the new Bendel's location twice, both visits I saw Roz for a cut. She was amazing! Second time I got color with Beth. She did not listen to me whatsoever and did what she wanted, I walked out of the salon looking like a skunk. I have dark brown hair, and ended up with a platinum blond streak on the left side of my head ONLY. I have gotten color at a few high end salons in NYC, Oribe, Bumble & Bumble, I was expecting beautiful, quality color from Fekkai and I walked out looking like I spent $25 at Supercuts. I have never been more disappointed in a colorist. After calling 3 times to speak with the person in charge of re-dos (with no call back) I finally demanded to speak with a manager. I returned for my re-do and Beth was rude to me, left the color on way too long without checking on me and then left someone else to finish her horrible job without even speaking to me before I left. I now have bright red roots and black ends. I would not reccomend Beth for color. I would go back to Roz for a cut, but have a bad taste in my mouth altogether. Because of it's increased size the salon is very impersonal, staff is extremly rude (with the exception of Roz). Take your $$$ elsewhere!

What you see is not what you get at Frederic Fekkai, because what they tell you on the phone and even what they have listed on their menu may not be what they charge you.

After my arrival for my appointment on August 18, 2007, the stylist, Alexandre, asked me how I wanted to style my hair. I thought that perhaps curls would be nice. Upon checkout, I was presented with an additional, previously undisclosed $50 fee called a "curling iron add on" on top of a "blow-out" fee of $85.

The industry standard at salons such as Bumble and Bumble is a set styling fee regardless of the equipment used. Therefore, you would think using another tool does mean you pay for their cost of buying the tool they use on you.

My makeup application differed both from the published rate (which was quoted to me at the time I reserved the appointment) of $75. Upon checkout, I was presented with an invoice for $100.

I spoke with one salon manager on Friday, August 24, and then again on Monday, August 27, when I was told by the salon manager that the position of the salon director, Raha Ashrafi (with whom I did not get a chance to speak because apparently she hung up on me prior to our discussion), is that I was lucky I didn't get charged more money for the same service.

My general impression was that the stylists and management were very arrogant and the service was horrible. However, Ananda (makeup artist) and Manana (eyebrow waxing) were great; if I could pay them for their services without having to go back to Fekkai, I would.

I have curly hair but I like to wear it straight too! I've gotten some pretty bad haircuts, but never here!! I've always seen Herve and he is wonderful! Friendly, sweet, and a genius if you ask me! Last 2 times time I brought in a picture of exactly what I wanted and he totally made it happen! Even better than the picture! I had a party to go to that night and as Herve said, "I'll make you look fabulous..." and he did! The cut was so amazing that my curls even looked better! It was 11 weeks before I went again... so even though it's expensive, it lasts a long time! I would highly recommend going to him especially if you are bored with your look, just need a change, or want to be transformed and look sophisticated!

Cons: Expensive... but still worth it!

OK, it looks like a huge open room with table after table of stylists; with a bare feeling to it. It's also very loud.

When I was finally seated at Francis' station he didn't ask me any questions about what color I wanted my hair, what kind of highlights, how many, etc. I began to tell him what I liked, and he simply told me not to worry, that he had been doing color for a very long time and he'd take care of it. At first I was taken aback by this, but in the end my color and highlights came out absolutely PHENOMENAL!! I have a lot of hair and it was down to my butt (almost all one length) and I was surprised that for Francis (Designer Level Colorist) to do my roots, and then my highlights, it only cost $300. My hair looks delicious! Natural looking color and highlights, with a beautiful glossy sheen; like you see in commercials.

Then I went to Tiffany for cut (I'm not sure what level she is, but I asked for someone "really good") and although I had at first thought she cut off too much... by the time she was finished, she transformed my hair from long and boring to eye-catching and sophisticated!! She was SUPER friendly and it was really a pleasure to have my hair cut by her. I am very critical of the way people cut my hair, and she really did a beautiful job... I felt so pretty I cried when she was finished! Then I gave her a big hug and a nice tip =o)
The price for the hair cut was $150, but they also charge 18% Gratuity Tax on top of NYS Tax.

I didn't tip the shampoo girls bc both girls who washed my hair never introduced themselves to me, or spoke to me or offered me a magazine or anything to drink. Believe it or not, while I had the dye in my hair two of the maids (they were dressed like maids you'd see in a hotel, and it seems all they did was clean up) asked me if I wanted something to drink and if I wanted a magazine. (Them I tipped!)

All in all, I think it's a no nonsense place that employs people who know how to get the job done right!

Let me preface this review by saying that I've been to several high end salons in NYC, so I know what's out there. I got a fantastic cut at Fekkai, though that was the only good thing about my visit. The salon is too busy loud and hectic, service is average at best, and the front desk check in/ check out person (same guy both times) was hasty and rude to me ... this is inexcusable. The perks are small for such a high-priced salon - a glass of water with lemon and a couple minute shampoo massage. I had to wait about 15 minutes for my stylist. He was all business, but listened to me and offered a couple of his own suggestions, and it turned out great. I was bothered by the fact that there was hair on my chair and ledge area from the person before me. That's ok if you're at a cheap in/out place - but not if it's Fekkai. Like I said - I DID get a great cut, but it's vastly over-priced for the experience that you get. You can get great cuts elsewhere for much less.

In my experience, this salon doesn't live up to it's name. I knew I was going to pay an upscale price, but I didn't get what I paid for. I was told highlights started at $275. They also charged me some type of service fee- in addition to the tips. You would think at those prices the colorist would want to listen to exactly what I wanted. Instead, I felt rushed. I kept trying to tell her the look I wanted but she insisted that all highlight color is the same and to trust that my hair would turn out beautiful. She did a decent job but it was not what I asked for.
Oh, and I didn't feel like a "fashion princess" as this site describes. When I walked in to the reception area the guy at the desk kept me waiting while he was on a very long phone call. It's common knowledge you should tell the caller you will return their call if you have a customer waiting in front of you.

My first experience at this salon was nice, not amazing. So, I made another appointment, and I regret it. It was extremely chaotic and noisy. They were doing hair for some models that day, and it seemed like therefore the other customers did not matter. My original stylist was missing in action, and no one contacted me. I had to wait an hour for a rather unpleasant stylist (that cost more and no one offered to cover the difference) who wasn't really interested in discussing what sort of hairstyle I wanted. I decided to spare myself a disaster and told her I'd like a TRIM. I walked out with some super-short layers and a terrible hairstyle reminscent of the mullet. I won't be going back. For that price, I expect a lot more and a stylist that I can build a relationship with and return to. It's hard to do that with a somewhat inexperienced staff pretending to have what it takes.

Random gripes: After they wash your hair, they tie it up in a 'towel knot', and it's dreadful. It hurts while they pull your hair to try to get it wrapped up inside a knot with the towel. If you do go here, I recommend you tell them not to do this unless you enjoy being manhandled.

The facilities are pretty, but don't expect a clean chair to sit in. Numerous times I was asked to sit in a chair that had the previous person's hair left all over it...

Dear Frederic Fekkai, your products are great (your glossing conditioner and luscious curls smell fantastic!) but the salon was just a huge disappointment for the money.

The new salon was a little chaotic at first, but is shaping up quickly. The acoustics are still poor -- too much noise -- but work is continuing to solve such problems. Appointments now need to be made a couple of weeks in advance, even if you're a regular client, because the space is smaller than in the Chanel building and schedules have changed. The stylists and colorists are top-notch, however, and the service is good. Everyone is polite and, if you have to wait, you're well taken care of. I do all my maintenance at this full-service salon -- nails, hair, wax, etc. -- and have doen so for over 5 years. I'm very satisfied with the service and work quality.
