This is the greatest optical store I've ever been in. A wonderful selection of frames. I've had seven or eight frames custom made for me by A. R. Trapp since 1996. These fellows are the best in the business as far as I'm concerned and I have been buying eyeglasses for almost fifty years. If you can't make it to Manhattan, they'll work with you over the phone. But the great experience is to go in and let them pamper you with great service and superior optical treatments. You'll love this store (and the people.)
Pros: Andy, Arnie and Isaac
Cons: It's in the middle of Manhattan
Nowhere in Manhattan will you find a better eyewear shop. A.R. Trapp is a small "mom and pop" (without a mom) shop that has the finest and best selection of unique, fun, and custom-made eyewear. Your initial stop by the store front window will hook you on this place. For the past two years, I have traveled from my home in Colorado specifically to find the most unusual of frames. Andy, Arnie, and Isaac are the three fellows who man the operation--and each one of them shares generously their knowledge of the eyewear business with the customer--all with the greatest of patience and humor.
One look at the goods in this store, and you will become FRAMED and as TRAPPED by A.R. Trapp as I am. Robert Harrison, Superior, CO
Pros: Staff, selection of frames
Cons: zip
A.R. Trapp has the best selection of traditional frames in Manhattan, with an emphasis on plastic. They are a true specialty store. The owner and staff are all veterans of many years in the business and each have very long memories of great frames past that can even be replicated in the present (thru their custom-order service). Gazing into their window frontage, filled with red themed frames, is entertainment in itself.
Pros: Great selection, Personal service, Specialty store
Cons: No website
