Since 1960, beginning in its original location on Manhattan's Upper East Side, Dorrian's RedHand served as a beacon for all those in search of good food, drinks, and cheer. Over the years. Dorrian's has forged its reputation by offering the finest Irish and American pub fare possible and providing the best possible customer service, by treating each and every customer like family.
I scouted out this restaurant as a potential site for a bridal luncheon but found it to be not quite right for my needs. The restaurant itself is on the small side and I wasn't overly impressed by their menu selection.

If you like well groomed preppy boys Dorrian's is a must! Came here a few weeks ago with a few friends and had a great time. Bartender and staff is very friendly as well. Great music throughout the night. Not sure how the week nights are but our Friday night was a blast!
Pros: Great crowd

A few friends and I headed to Dorian's last Friday night and had the best time ever! It didn't get crowded until 10:30, but when we arrived there around 9:30, there was already a group at the bar and a few people sitting around the restaurant. It gets really crowded, and hands down, if you like preppy people, go here. The boys are super cute and the music is awesome-from recent hits, to Whitney Houston's 80's hits to 60's oldies like "Twist and Shout," and "Run Around Su." Boys-best to wear at least a nice collared shirt and girls, definitely go on a Friday and/or Saturday night, and I can guarantee a plethora of cute, corporate boys for you to choose from ;)
Pros: Preppy, great music, good service, hot people
Cons: Can feel awkward if you're not dressed up enough

"Still Crazy After All These Years" a popular Paul Simon album which certainly describes the scene at this ever popular UES "Preppy Party".
Oh yeah, the women ARE HOT and approachable too. The bouncer at the door is only doing his job. Drinks are easy to come by and prices are reasonable.
8 years out of college and I still feel comfortable hanging here. Dorrian's does the job right!
Pros: Good crowd. Respectable and Preppy
Cons: Can take a while to get into on a Thursday night

Greatest bar in Manhattan. Hands down. Great looking girls. Friendly patrons. Awesome bartenders. An unbeatable music play list. Also, it's a favorite of the New York Yankees and Rangers...always good seeing them there.
Pros: All
Cons: None

I've been going here for the 4 years, there ALWAYS HOT GIRLS at this place. Last week a bunch of us from the office went there for food and drinks after work and found more. Good music, Big screen tvs, and open windows give this place a great feel. We had a great time.
Pros: HOT YOUNG GIRLS!!!!
Cons: LONG LINES

Have you ever came to in the morning after a night of heavy drinking and realized that you did something you wish you could take back? That's how I feel about this place every time I go there. This place gives the UES a bad reputation. Rude Doormen and shady management. Google it. The crowd truly reminds me of a basement frat party full of Freshmen and Sophomores with brightly colored popped collars. But that also means they have some decent looking girls. The bartenders are OK and do their job for the most part. WIth so many great places to go in this city, I'm ashamed that I have been here more than once. If you fit into this crowd please spend your time here so I won't have to run into you anywhere else.
Pros: Good looking girls
Cons: So many

One night in this establishment helped reinforce every single negative stereotype that exists about the yuppie/preppie devolution of our society. You've already given up on life if you set foot in here a second time. While overly intoxicated under age girls who summer in the hamptons may be mildy entertaining to eye from afar, it's not surprising that this was the spot that served as the meeting place for the preppie murder thing 20 years ago. If I ever received a gift card to this establishment, I would wonder what I did to upset that person.
Pros: Very Drunk Yuppie Girls
Cons: Very Drunk Yuppie Guys

I'm not going to waste my time writing a lengthy review about my horrible experience at Dorrian's....this place is just not worth my time. I will say this though....if you want to go to a trashy, awful, crude, rude and tacky place, then Dorrian's is the place. Enjoy the quality service....ha
Pros: nothing
Cons: EVERYTHING!

....if you are a tool who likes to wear pink Vineyard Vines polo shirts with the collar up. Be prepared to wait in line with a bunch of dudes in blue shirts and designer jeans who just got their first job as an investment banking analyst. If the upper east side isnt the coolest place on Earth, I don't know what is. A typical night at Club D's will be spent having bud lights and shots of SoCo and lime with your pals from BC, G-Town or PC then followed by flashing your business card to some drunk coeds looking for some late night hookups. I would highly recommend this bar, especially if you own a whale belt.

Dorrian's Red Hand is a great bar for anyone looking for a relaxed fun night on the upper-east side. Good crowd- lots of young classy,...wealthy professionals. Allaround good time.
Pros: location
Cons: cost

club ds is simply amazing. The owner is the nicest guy in the world and the staff are amazing as well. If you want to have a fun time--listening to amazing music and being treated like an old friend, go to club ds. The bartenders are always friendly, often times remembering names of customers after only seeing them once and, generally, the people there know that they can let loose and not be judged...the way all bars should make one feel. I am an expert on the current bar scene in New York and am writing a book about it. In my expert opinion, this is THE place to top the night off and it is clear that other people share my view.
It is best during the week as sometimes the crowd changes on weekends to something less impressive.
Pros: Atmosphere, friendly service, great value
Cons: n/a

Dorrian's has the best tasting V&T's in the City. Everyone goes there, and always will. No T-Shirts allowed. Love it.
Pros: It's totally Awesome!
Cons: Nothing!

I was only there for a little while late night on a Friday night but it seemed like a great place to go. Everyone seems to be very preppy and pretty. I would def. go back there again. It cleared out pretty early too.
Pros: Pretty people

Dorrians...The moment you walk in the door you know it's going to be the "Best Night of your Life". From the Blue Blazers, to the shots of Jaeger...
the dimly lit atmosphere gives every busted guy the chance to take home the girl of his dreams. Sidenote: Pay special attention to the HOT bartender on Friday night!!!
Pros: Hot Bartenders

Oh God. Please. God help me. Why would anyone want to be in YOUR crowd?? I went with people from Europe, LES, UES & the Bronx and had a blast. You do not have to "fit in" or go to the "right" schools to have a good time. Someone in our group is freinds w the owner. We finally left because the crowd really wasn't beautiful enough for us, bo ha ha ha!

I love the review before "Well, if you haven't figured out life's most obvious secret, you clearly don't belong." So true - Dorrians always a great night out
Posted 03/03/05
You walk in and see a somewhat-dumpy, rundown, dark place with checkered tablecloths and think to yourself: "Out of all the places in NY, why here?" Well, if you haven't figured out life's most obvious secret, you clearly don't belong. For people who are native upper-east siders or others who went to the right schools (outside of NY), we have long been aware of the fact that WHERE you are isn't so much the issue...it's WHO are the people at this place. Dorrian's is place where you can always be assured to be surrounded by the "right" people. During summer weekends, the place gets invaded by a B&T crowd, but on a Thursday night...it's an ideal hangout for "us" if you don't want to go "out-out." Question is...are you one of "us" or one of "them?" If it's the latter...stay home--you probably won't fit it.

Dorrian's is the bar that preppy New York twentysomethings hate to admit loving. Almost nobody plans on going to Dorrian's on Saturday nights, but somehow everyone ends up there. Dorrian's is a large bar but it can get crowded very quickly. The party generally doesn't get crazy until about 1am. It's a very popular spot for alumni from the NESCAC colleges.

Great place for a fun, crazy night out. Low-key crowd dressed in casual attire. Great music and dancing starts after 12.
Pros: Inexpensive, Good Crowd
Posted 12/17/02
If you are coming here and are not part of the crowd that frequents, then you aren't really expected to have a good time. I know that that soudns mean, but Dorrian's is more of a clubhouse than a bar. Case in point, in November and December, during the party season, when people show up in full formal regalia nightly. If this is your scene, you'll have a good time, if it's not, you're probably better off going somewhere else.
