Yes, the food here is always perfect. Every dish that comes out of the kitchen is ready to be photographed and eaten with sighs of contentment. All the people dining alongside you at this fabulous neighborhood restaurant are people who have dined there before and returned again and again. Every diner cannot say enough about its high quality in every aspect of dining - but you must have reservations here! Seafood is a specialty but every meal is a gem.

We dined at the West Bank Cafe as a group of 6 on a Saturday night. We were initially put off by the area at night - the back of the Port Authority Bus Terminal and the homeless shelter across the road did not have us thinking we were in for fine dining. Once inside however, we were all pleasantly surprised. The food was very well done and beautifully presented, the staff were helpful and available when we needed them, and we were generously given some dessert plates for the table with the compliments of the chef.

My experiences in the 42nd St area have too often been of the "Menu Touristik" variety - the West Bank Cafe offers a chance to eat well away from the visiting crowds. Just take care in the neighbourhood getting there and away!

Pros: Excellent food, surprisingly nice decor

Cons: Location - be streetwise in the neighbourhood!

I'm addicted to bacon cheeseburgers with a side of fries. I've enjoyed this meal in such diverse places as Fatburgers in Westwood, California; the Space Needle Grill in Seattle, Washington; the Yard in Antigua; and Booeymonger in Washington, D.C. None of these fine establishments, however, come close to equalling the West Side Cafe in preparing and serving the most succulent, cooked-to-order BCB and fresh crispy fries one could ever imagine enjoying. Moreover, the wait staff is exceedingly friendly and attentive and the ambience is just like being in the comfort of your own home. MY spouse also considers West Side's chicken Caesar salad to be a work of culinary art. The ingredients always taste fresh - never perserved. Well Done, West Side Cafe!

i cannot believe it is free.. the friday night after party is so good. i love this place. so will you. go at 9 or 10, grab a seat, a drink, and be prepared to be so pleasantly entertained! I have never eaten a full dinner here, but go the appetizers with drink menu. They are fab.. the calamari is some of the best in the city.

i've been to the west bank lots of times and its become one of my favorite places in the city to eat. the food is fantastic (the crab cakes and chicken are the best). the waitstaff is friendly and professional and the restaurant is super clean (i could probably eat off the floor if i wanted to, but that's not a good look). when you go make sure you save room for dessert. it's crazy good.

Clean, modern and nicely decorated. The hostess asked if we wanted our coats hung up (we did) and then proceeded to take us to our seats. The small banquet we had in the back was romantic and cozy. The waiter was very attentive and checked on our table several times during our meal. The water glasses were filled when needed. The tuna tartare was excellent, fresh and nicely presented. The Salmon came with caramlized fennel, fngerling potatoes, swiss chard and an orange reduction sauce. It was terrific. My wife has the strip steak, grilled to her liking and accompanied with potatoes and string beans. A real lemon tart (very tart) was shared for dessert. All in all I would highly recommend the West Bank Cafe for dinner. P.S. The bathrooms are very high tech and clean.

What an amazing little restaurant tucked away behind a few trees and an awning??? This classic NYC restaurant has been around for 30 years and is still kicking. Chef Joe Marcus is constantly working on presenting amazing dishes for amazingly affordable prices. This is truly the Jewel of the theatre district where anyone of the multiple celebreties that flock to the Boards of Broadway in our city can be seen on any given night! Truly not to be missed!!!! (quiet times are between 3 and 6 and then again from 8 to 11)

Pros: Great Menu, Great Prices, Hundreds of Bottles of Wine to Choose From

Cons: Busy during pre-theatre

Under a new chef, WBC has migrated towards a more Mediterranean menu while keeping it's terrific staples (thanks for the special tuna tartare!) A lovely place for brunch as well, it's a good regular hang-out for dinner with good food, a comprehensive wine list and pleasant staff. The pasta dishes are consistently good as is the fish and try their soups - seasonal, fresh and delicious.

The West Bank Grill exceeded expectations. From the Host to the Waitress, everyone was very accommodating and friendly. We arrived early and sat at the cool yet understated bar. The host asked us if we would like a seat near the window or a booth. The food was great, the beat salad was superb. The presentation was elegant yet not fussy. My only complaint was not having enough options for entrees, but the dessert made up for it. I would defiantly recommend this, especially before a show, its a nice escape from the cheesiness of the Theater District.

Pros: Service, Food, Ambiance

Cons: Entree Choices

.

The sea bass special wasn't memorable -- salty and bland. the service was snobby, hostile and basically rude. For an overpriced restaurant, their silly, inflexible, one entree or two appetizer minimum was absurd. the wine was overpriced, but decent. you can do much better

I have been about seven times, the last after a concert at Carnegie Hall. All of the menu items are fantastic - especially the chicken with mashed potatoes and asparagus, as well as the rice pudding - to die for. When I was there last, I saw Daniel Stern and Christopher Reeve. I highly recommend the prix fixe. There are many choices available for a great price. I love it. The only drawback is the need for reservations around the typical pre-theatre times.

We arrived earlier than the rest of our party and the staff were unphased by the later additions. The food was wonderful and the restaurant though noisey and crowded still gave us enough privacy to hear each other and feel we were the only table Dan had. The rissota was perfect, and my teenage daughter and her friend loved the attention afforded them.
A nice place to meet other theater goers before or after the show. Great bar also.

simply the greatest. We love everything about it. Steve who owns it is a great guy. We've reaten there 10 times and have never seen a celebrity. Greta wine list which is affordable.

This charming Theater District cafe has been dishing up delicacies for over three decades---all without sacrificing the friendly spirit that makes locals come back again and again. Any of a number of California wines will pair well with…
