4 Stars: It's Time Square But Still the W Experience (by Maxine Power)

Location is a pro and con. It's in Times Square so convenient to everything but it is Times Square so prepare to deal with the crazy foot traffic and loads of tourists.

5 Stars: W is for "Wonderful" (by djpiglet)

We were a little hesitant about making a reservation at this hotel because of some of the other reviews, but we were very pleasantly surprised. We had a wonderful time at the W Times Square . Our room was beautiful and it looked like it had just been renovated! The little chocolates that were left in the room everyday was a very nice touch, along with the note from the General Manager on our first day. We also noticed that we never hear the housekeeping staff, but the rooms are always clean.

Everyone we came in contact with at the hotel were very accommodating and we felt like they genuinely cared about the quality of our stay.

There was one staff member in particular who helped to make our stay extra memorable. Gil (I think one of the security staff?) was especially helpful and went out of his way to make our stay more special. We felt like VIPs in the hotel and also that we had a friend who would take care of us. We've stayed in many W's over the years now and the service in general is very good, but the service at this location was outstanding!

We couldn't have asked for a more perfect stay.

3 Stars: cool hotel, but not really worth it (by ryo89harvard11)

the hotel has a really upscale, modern, chic feel, and is definitely the best W in NYC.
however, u still have informal agents- not that polite, lousy housekeeping at times, although the views are really good on the high floors.
such a cool hotel, too bad there's so much detriments...

5 Stars: Simply the best!! (by pascalemd)

The W Hotel in Times Square is simply the best. It is chic, trendy and the cater to your every need while your staying there. I was in awe. The decor is fabulous. The service was INCREDIBLE!!Basically if you didn't want to leave your hotel at all, there is a lounge called the Living Room, the Blue Fin restaurant where I will host a birthday party this Saturday and the The Whiskey which is the club inside the W. My family is still ranting and raving about it!! KUDOS to the staff as the W-the whatever, whenever service. I booked a room again for my mom's birthday. She can't wait!!

1 Stars: Worst Hotel In NYC (by ignacious)

Everything about this hotel is terrible. It has the same furniture it had years ago, their 'water room entrance', or whatever it's called has been turned off more then half of the times i've been there which is at least 15, the people at the front desk are not as helpful as they think they are, management is rude and unapproachable and thats only when you can actually find a manager to speak to, no sauna or steam room, they closed down the spa, its so dark you can't even see the numbers on the elevator, the guest rooms are about as big as an average baby nursery, which would be great if I was 21 inches tall and 9 pounds...but I'm not. I've stayed here many times, usually on business but I am done. This hotel offers no amenities at all. They used to be great, they used to have fantastic customer service, it was a trendy, fun, new environment, filled with cool, down to earth staff members, their were fabulous spa treatments for myself and my associates until they apparently closed the spa and tell me they're not opening a new one, the dynamic is all off. maybe it's poor managemnet, I don't know. But, what I do know, is, I'm never staying here again and I would suggest you go somewhere else to.

1 Stars: No Spa!?!?!?!? Now This Place Officially Bites!! (by Friendo1)

What junk!!! I called to book a spa appointement at the away spa in the W Hotel, Times Square for my stay next week and they tell me it closed down. How do you close down the spa in the hotel? I'm so upset, as I frequent this spa and have a great relationship with my massage therapist and skin care person. I asked the rude front desk person why it closed and they said "to expand the gym". I've stayed at this hotel many times...no one works out in that gym, I'm usually the only one their when I'm working out. I asked if I could get an in-room massage with my regular masseuse and they told me No, because all the away spa people were let go. Like I want some random weirdo whos experience and expertise is unknown coming into my hotel room and overcharging me?!? The spa was the only good thing this hotel offered and was the only reason I stayed in the hotel. Without it, it's just a cruddy hotel with old wanna-be trendy decor and sub-par service. I immediately cancelled my reservation and booked a room at the Westin Times Square instead. I refuse to spend all that money to be treated like garbage and not even get what I want. Now, the W in times square offers NO pool, NO sauna, NO steam room and now NO spa. there staff is rude, the furniture is old, the sheets are usually dirty with holes in them, they charge you an extra $20 for internet service and $25 for a hamburger with a stale bun...what's the point of staying here?? DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY on this place, go somewhere that will give you a more memorable experience. Shame on you W Hotel, I expected more from you!!!

5 Stars: Amazing Experience!! (by DirtyMartiniGirl)

This was my first time staying at a W Hotel and I absolutely loved it!! The decor is very modern and stylish and in the heart of Times Square. Rooms were very comfortable. The lounge, The Living Room, was trendy and upscale, great for drinks. The customer service was INCREDIBLE, the best I've ever had at a hotel! The people that helped us all weekend were friendly, remembered all of our names, and were willing to accomodate our every need. They were genuine and seemed as if they love what they do. The prices are steep, but so isn't everywhere else in Times Square. If you're looking for a fun and stylish hotel, I definately recommend staying at the W Times Square. I will definately be staying there from now on!

2 Stars: Disappointing (by mpk7)

I rated this as below average because there were some good things. The staff is great and our room had a great view. The hotel is right in the middle of everything and the bar area was nice. Drinks were expensive but very good. But for the not so great things. You figure if you are paying a ton of money to stay in a supposed high end hotel, that it should be incredible. Our room had various problems, cracked sink, stains on the blinds, the shower didn't close correctly so water constantly got on the floor, you could see where the shower was patched so part of it stuck out of the wall, the shower head came out of the wall and so did part of the pipe. The elevator and hallways are dimly lit, so you can hardly see anything. While walking around New York, I saw an econo-lodge and joked that we should have stayed there.

2 Stars: What is all this hype about? My experience was dismal (by mix579)

My first and last visit to this hotel. My room was on the 35th floor but the card-controlled elevator only let me off on the 34th floor. When you leave the elevator, it's pitch-black with blue lights above the guest room doors. I guess it's supposed to be cool but it didn't turn me on. When I moved in, the heating didn't work. The "fix" they suggested was to set the fan to permanent. When I turned the shower on (I made sure the switch was set to "tub") I got blasted with a stream of cold water. The shower door didn't close completely, so you can't shower without flooding the bathroom. The bathroom sink didn't drain properly. Apparently everybody in New York sleeps in because the restaurant doesn't open before 7 am for breakfast (but there's a Starbucks across the street). On top of a $300-plus rate they charge you another $17 for internet access, come on!

On the plus side: the beds are very comfortable. But that's not enough of a reason to come back.

3 Stars: A bit overpriced for what you get (by jill n.)

The staff makes you feel welcome in this tiny lobby. Big room by W standards but kind of bland, also by W standards.

The concierge was friendly after he gave me his disertation on how he invented the practice of having a concierge set up hotel clients with a social itinerary. He had some pretty good hookups that panned out so I am not complaining.

I had to go elsewhere for a gym and the lobby bar had many annoying yuppies from Happy Hour onward. Luckily there's some new hot bars nearby that these dorks won;t find out about for 6 more months.

Overall, no reason to go back. Too expensive for not much.

4 Stars: Great Customer Service! (by chang21)

I am neutral to the value since usually my stay is at the company's expense, but this hotel has the best customer service from all of my past experiences. Everyone on staff is friendly, kind, and ready to meet your every need with a smile. That's what really made my stay enjoyable, despite the location being in Time Square. The staff should really be proud of their performance. Having stayed at the W in Union Square, that hotel does not compare at all.

W New York is a hotel that is just synonymous with flashiness and is simply a name that is not backed by any substance whatsoever. Though it may be the in place to stay at this very moment, that shouldnt mean much because the hotel is nothing that great. Rooms are average but overpriced.

When I was in college and bunch of friends and I decided to go in on a room at the W when we were in New York. If there wasnt so many of us, we would have never afforded a room. The staff was fairly nice to us, they were a bit snobby considering we didnt really fit in with their hip upscale clients. Our room over looked times square which was really nice.

4 Stars: too modern for its own good (by Kim K.)

The W is definitely luxurious, and it assuredly well placed for a Broadway tour of New York City, but I think this hotel tries a little bit too hard to be hip and modern and 'different' when it comes to the rooms themselves. Not only did it take me thirty minutes to figure out how to turn the lamps on (or even which structure was the lamp) but the bathroom had translucent walls and didn't even really have a door. The service was fantastic, the concierge was truly helpful and wonderful - but please put a door on the bathroom!

4 Stars: GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE (by smhensley)

I've stayed in quite a few Ws and they all unfortunately have cheap, contemporary decor but for the cost and amazing service this hotel rates top! The staff was amazing and made my week there feel comfortable and safe. I had a great room on the 46th floor with a great view! Food at Blue Fin was great with a professional staff. The Whiskey down below was fun. I would stay there again if I needed to be in Times/Crazy Square. Great memories! Thanks!

5 Stars: Top of its game (by kensol)

My first W Hotels stay, and I have been won over. The design is refreshing, contemporary and warm, but not the easiest hotel to get checked into. The bars and restaurant are all excellent, but too overcrowded and loud to fully enjoy. The staff is very attentive and friendly, and the room was comfortable and spacious (by NYC standards). My only gripe was the a/c went out after my first night apparently due to the drop in outside temp. I was told that this is a typical NYC occurance, where entire hotels switch their rooms from central air, to central heat. This change, proved to make the stay less enjoyable than it could have been.

We chose the W because we'd heard such good things. When we first got here, we loved it. Great service and nice hotel room. Really modern, and very comfortable bed. Great location and views. Then, things started going wrong. Mugs with lipstick on them, waiting over an hour for the whatever/whenever service to replenish our ammenities and (and then they got the order wrong), and holes in our sheets! We also got double charged for the internet service, which we didn't even realize there was a charge for. For our trouble, we got a $75 free breakfast from room service (which didn't strech as much as you'd think). Overall, it's like a bad present. All nice and shiny wrapping on the outside, but pretty dissapointing once you open it and get inside.

4 Stars: No hot water, no new sheets. (by pikachu)

The first day I checked in, my shower head was broken. They then switched me to another room directly in front of the elevator. I then asked to be switched to a different room with a working shower and away from the elevator. The third room they switched me to was away from the elevator, but the shower knob did not work, as such, I was unable to turn the knob to get access to hot water. My stay was 17 unpleasant days.

The housekeeping department did not change my sheets for four days until I called the front desk to have them changed. I knew this because I spilled sauce over my bedsheet and the stain was still there after four days.

All this trouble, they gave me a $50 credit to Blue Fin.

5 Stars: Absolutly Amazing!! (by tipsy211)

From the moment everything was amazing. Our room was not yet ready, being right before New Years and very busy, so we were ushered to the hip and trendy bar and given 4 free drinks (definitely try their Mojito's!!). Athough the room was small (it IS NY) it was very impressive and had all the amenties we could ask for. Ask for a room with city views and you can check out busy Time Square. The decour was more my husbands style, very modern done in grays, but even though it was so modern, it was also very classy. The service was impecible and EVERY person we dealt with in the hotel must have been heavily trained in excellent customer service. The concierge was AWESOME in booking us dinner reservations. I can't say enough about this place. I would have a hard time staying anywhere else in NY after this!

5 Stars: Classy and Comfortable (by Barbm6)

A friend recommended this hotel and my husband and I were very pleased. Everything about the hotel is sharp looking, with a real comfortable atmosphere. The only con is that the room service is a bit expensive. The bed was the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in! We highly recommend this hotel.

5 Stars: Terrific!! (by SweetHomeAL)

After transfering from the Royalton Hotel we were overly delighted on our accomodations. We were booked in an "Urban Suite" with unbelievable views of Times Square. The room was incredible as was the entire staff. I would highly recommend this hotel for vacationers or business travel!!!

5 Stars: Very cool (by rnoia)

Wow. I can never go to another hotel and be satisfied. Ultra modern, high speed internet (great for business travellers). I never thought gray, black and chrome would take over a hotel.
Very cool. The service here is incredible. Their "whatever whenever" service makes all other hotels pale in comparison.

5 Stars: Very modern (by ChefBea)

This is not a hotel for the lovers of antique furniture and oriental rugs. The design is very sleek and modern and somewhat disorienting. The rooms were small and painted black with accents in gray and white. The bathroom shower only had a partial door which was clear....The service was impeccable however and you can't beat the location!

5 Stars: Fun-Hip-Trendy-Cool (by drdannybenenfeld)

We first got in the elevator and bumped into Usher, then met our friends on the seventh floor living room bar for pre-dinner drinks, which had a friendly upbeat crowd. The concierge conveniently booked us dinner reservations at Nyla (Brittney Spears place, which was awful), then we came back and went downstairs to the Wiskey bar and danced all night. After that we ordered room service, which is 24 hours, up to our very modern bedroom. The bed was incredibly comfortable and the bathrooms very unique. In the morning we had relaxing facials/massages, then topped it of with some sushi at the Blue Fin while we were facing all of Times Square. Cant wait to come back. Thanks again to all the friendly staff!

5 Stars: South Beach meets NYC (by keysthong)

The art deco style of the hotel takes your breath away from the moment that you walk in! Though there was a rather dated deli sandwich in our mini bar (which actually gave us a light-hearted laugh)and Hooter's-like waitresses that didn't even know how to make a Cosmopolitan (shame on you), our stay was great! Nothing is perfect, but one episode of "Sex in the City" to class up the waitresses and a Bartender's Guide and this place would be almost flawless! The NYC Chamber packages don't steer you wrong with this choice. Three words.... location, location, location! Time Square rules! Give it a try, you won't be disappointed!

3 Stars: Don't bother with the bar (by Aleeseah)

If you stay here, avoid Underbar. Though the bathrooms are cool, the clientele is just like school on a sunday....no class! There must be a sign on the door marked "desperate men enter here."

5 Stars: W Times Square Rocks! (by lisa923)

W Times Square is nothing short of all the hype. It is the best hotel in NYC... The staff is terrific, extremely helpful and the hotel itself is incredibly stylish and a great place to either relax in it's incredible featherbeds or to meet a few friends for a drink in the Livingroom or The Whiskey.

I recently stayed in the urban suite and loved it , the room decor was great very contempory it even had a huge sterio with a cd changer . The living room was great for entertaining guests and it even had a pullout for the guests that didnt leave . The bar scene in the lobby was excellant but my favorite was the wiskey which is in the basement and may I say one of the nicest clubs I have been to .

4 Stars: It's about time, Times Square... (by brighteyesnyc)

Best new option for Times Square. Hey, a chic hotel with three bar options. The one in Blue Fin on the ground floor is way too hot (temperature wise) but there is the second floor (for those of us who know). It's worth the intimate setting where you can get a drink and hear your date. Did I mention air conditioning that works. We had dinner afterwards which is worth requesting a banquet. Definitely worth the visit...

5 Stars: Amazing Place (by havlovick)

To preface, I haven't stayed in other hotels in the Times Square area. However, The W provided us with such an amazing first experience that I will be hard-pressed to go somewhere else next time. Everyone was VERY helpful. Our corner room on the 47th floor was incredible, with a great view of Times Square. The softest hotel bed ever sealed the deal. One warning: At midnight, as we re-entered the hotel to the sounds of Prince, and a lobby area filled with well dressed 20-somethings, we got on an elevator with a couple in their 50's. The husband was clearly not happy. The wife was laughing, saying, "well, I don't think this place is meant for anyone over 30..."

5 Stars: T.J. taught us the "W walk" (by tjebkes)

We really liked this W Hotel. The location is great, and we found the staff to be helpful, especially T.J. the doorman who gave us a nice tour of the hotel. Cool waterfalls in the entry of the hotel. We received a room upgrade for free upon check-in. The room was very nice looking, although the bathroom was obviously designed for aesthetics and not function (e.g. no counter around the sink). The feather bed was awesome. We'll definitely stay at this W Hotel in NYC again.
