I really don't understand why this place is still open and much less the good reviews. To start with this Mexican was corrected twice on how to pronounce Chile Relleno. The waiter actually pronounced the "ll" as the l in lousy service. When the food did come the tamales were cold hard and oddly colored. I have never seen tamales like those anywhere in Mexico. The quesadillas(ll as the y in yucky cheese) were made with-get this-with American singles cheese. Really?! When food was returned barely touched no inquiry or compensations were offered. To be fair I have tried this place twice and know that the only thing holding this place up are the walls.

I couldn??t possibly count how many great places I??ve eaten at in NYC, Westchester and the surrounding areas and this place is number one on my list! This place is the BEST, I don??t even mind dining or having a drink alone here, I feel right at home. The food is fresh and delicious, the drinks are phenomenal and the staff is outstanding! The atmosphere here is joyous and that is thanks to the wonderful staff. Salsa y Salsa has become the choice spot for my friends and me to meet up, have drinks, food and relax and have a good time. We love the people here, enjoy the company of fellow patrons and the ambiance that this all creates. This is certainly a happy place to be and I highly recommend it!

Pros: Cozy and Colorful, Phenomenal Staff, Delicious food

.

We love popping into this no frills Mexcian restaurant for a quick delicious bite to eat. All of their food is freshly prepared, spicy and simply satisfying.
My boyfriend insists that they have the best mojitos, while I prefer their amazing margaritas. We like to sit outside because the decor inside the restaurant is somewhat lacking but the great food and service make up for the drab decor.
Whenever we are eating here, we see people we know walk by and last time we were there, people kept joining us. The staff was really accommodating by bringing us more chairs and adding a table onto ours. It was great fun!

Pros: Delicious Food, Outdoor Seating

Cons: Interior decor

The food here is pretty good - good portions and tasty, tasty, tasty. I was there last night w friends and we came specifically for the mojitos - they are the best in the city! A little pricey, but super-duper good! And we had Juan as our server - he was very nice and did not rush us out the door so others could be seated. That in itself is crucial when I decide to return to a place - I'm paying to be there - so don't rush! Salsa y Salsa is a cute little joint that is unpretentious and worth a trip.

Pros: mojitos and other drinks rock!

Cons: ummm, nothing really - maybe some cheaper drinks, but they are still great!

I have ate there 4 times and each time the food was great! Service is relaxed but NOT slow. The food is more of a Mexican fusion than out right Mexican. They take some typical Mexican dishes and change them around. I did have one that I was not crazy about but I failed to notice the sauce was mole which I am not a fan of either. I will say one negative thing, there salsa's are not that great. The chips are yummy but the salsa's all have a strange taste to them.

The prices are good as well as the drinks.

NOTE- This is NOT a place to go to if your in a rush or have a large group of people.

I'm shocked at the poor reviews for this place! I've been 3 times and plan to go back, for my birthday, this week! I've been a party of 2 and up to a party of 5 and have enjoyed myself each time! I seem to go for a late lunch or early dinner. It's low key, the atmosphere is kind of tacky, but bright and cheerful! I would agree that this is not the place to come if you're in a hurry. But, don't we need to slow down from time to time? The staff is polite, but not on fire to get the job done. With that said, I've never felt that I've waited too long for anything. The margaritas are some of the best I've had. As far as the food goes, I haven't had anything but the chile relleno yet, because it is so delicious!!! My friends have all enjoyed their food as well... chicken enchilladas, fajitas, some kind of sandwhich, etc. I've been in the industry for nearly 20 years, so I'm usually the one who's annoyed at bad service and food. I silently cheer to think that the owner actually throws people out of his restaurant! (No offense to the ones who were kicked to the curb.) I have wanted to do the same thing myself many times. In this city, we're so used to getting everything and anything we want, I think it's easy to lose sight of reality at times. I say, recognize that you're in a Mexican Restaraunt, you know, the place where they take naps? Relax, have a drink, go with the flow and expect to have a good time and maybe you just will.

Pros: great margaritas!

Cons: service isn't going to entertain you, bring fun friends!

.

I was taken here by a friend, and if there is anyone that knows about Mexican food, it's me. I was very satisfied by the food and drinks. The place is nothing fancy, but the food and margaritas were great.!!!

I had an avocado salad with shrimp to die for!!! try it!!

I also had a "Chile Relleno", and even thought it was not filled with the traditional fillings, it was still excellent in taste.

If you plan for a day in the city, and want a relaxed spot where you can sit, eat something tasty and chat your tongue away...go here... I loved it and will be going back for my B-day before hitting the club...lol

So, anyways, I think this was a great place and would definitely recommend anyone to go there...just remember, this is not a fancy place...

This is a small storefront restaurant on 7th avenue. It is decorated with photos of purple hibiscuses stuck to the walls- (strange for a mexican restaurant). The service is not good! it ruined the entire experience. Upon arrival we were seated and waited 15 minutes for anyone to come and bring a menu. When they did they did said ''sorry'' and left..... We waited and waited for everything... The 3 different waiters that came to the table were NOT FRIENDLY. The table was covered in dishes and the waiters were chatting and no one came to ask anythingever! When someone managed to flag down anyone to order an new drink they just brought a new one and plunked it down...leaving the old one. After we ate and they finally cleared the plates after begging them to clear the table..., they never came back, ever. we had to ask for a check, they never asked if we wanted anything else, if we enjoyed ourselves...anything. We paid and left....no one said good bye. thank younothing.

Firstly, don't use your credit card here- They charge it 6 times. Food was not worth being treated terribly by the waitstaff. They should try the customer oriented approach at running a business. Not worth it. Try Regional Thai next door or Spice down the block.

I've had my share of awful waitstaff, but Salsa Y Salsa tops them all! Waiters gave us attitude because we had asked about our food after waiting a good half hour (mind you, we were on our lunch breaks), and to top it off, overcharged us for it! The only good thing about this place was the plantains, but that's only because you really can't go wrong in cooking it!

I work near this place and have attempted to eat here once before, but was shooed away by the strong smell of urine. i guess i should have taken that instance as a sign, but today, my co-worker took me out to dinner for my 27th b-day. we walked by salsa y salsa and thought we'd give it the benefit of the doubt, and try it again... maybe my sense of smell has diminshed with the passing of another year. my co-worker didn't notice any urine smell either, but she's 29. i do have to say that the margaritas were really good, but that's about the only thing this place has got going for it. The food was awfully bland. there wasn't much on the menu for vegetarians, so my co-worker and i split the mama's nachos as an appetizer, which were mediocre... who puts carrots on nachos anway?? i then ordered the special, vegetable tomatillo soup or something like that and got boiled potatoes, cabbage, and carrots in hot water??? i also had a tostada salad which was basically iceberg lettuce drowning in tasteless wet dressing. my co-worker had the chicken tacos which were smothered with the same iceberg lettuce juice... no extra veges, no spices... it could have been cardboard as far as we were concerned.

go here for magaritas (or don't) and then try "super fresh taco express" on the corner of 23rd and 7th.

I live in the neighborhood and eat at this unpretentious Mexican restaurant regularly because the food is very good, prices are reasonable, the service is friendly and fast, and the atmosphere is cozy and casual. My favorite main course is the chicken enchiladas, although I have tried other dishes and enjoyed them as well. The margaritas are also tasty. The restaurant is small and the decor simple, lending the place a neighborhood feel. It can get crowded on Friday and Saturday nights, but I always find the waitstaff friendly and responsive. I have taken friends and family to this restaurant on many occasions and have always had an enjoyable experience.

I hate this restaurant. I went this week with one other person and was totally upset. First the servie is awful. they aer not attentive and they take forever to give you anything, even chips and salsa. then all of the help won't help you and you can only ask for anything from the person who took your order. at the end of the meal we were fed up, and asked for our check politely. The owner/waiter gave us a lot of attitude. Asked us to never come back to his restaurant. Told us to leave and then starting cursing at us in front of all the other patrons. This PLACE IS NOT WORTH IT. THE FOOD IS MEDIOCRE, THE SERVICE IS APALLING AND YOU GET CURSED OUT IF YOU MAKE THE SLIGHTEST NEGATIVE COMMENT. I AM GOING TO TELL EVERYONE NOT TO EAT HERE. YOU WILL BE DISAPPOINTED AND WILL LEAVE ANGRY.

KEY TAKEAWAYS:
-FOOD IS DISGUSTING
-HORRIBLE SERVICE
-GOT CURSED AT
-WAS TOLD THAT I WAS AN IDIOT AND HE USED OTHER EXPLITIVES

DON'T GO HERE!!!

THIS WAS THE WORST DINING EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE! Eating at salsa y salsa was the most shocking experience. the food was ok. the service was pathetic, it's difficult to even call it service and the management at this restaurant is extremely poor. The management is very unprofessional and they treat their patrons horribly.

usually i order take out from this restaurant and yesterday i decided to take friends out to a low key place but it turned out to be a horrible experience. We received really bad service and the waiter was very unattentive. At the end of the meal the owner began yelling and cursing at a couple on the other side of the restaurant. He was calling them names and told them to "GET OUT" i was really shocked and embarrassed that i brought my friends there. I could not believe how poorly this restaurant treated their customers. Their food is not good enough for them to be rude to their patrons.

I strongly suggest against this place. the food is not that good, and you'll just leave with a bad taste in your mouth (from the food) and the service!

our group of six came here for lunch yesterday. they advertise a $6.95 fabulous lunch special. its a decent value you get your choice from a list of about seven items (tacos, enchiladas, as well as other dishes i cant pronounce), and for an extra $3, you can add an appetizer as well.

the place was very empty since it was relatively late (2pm) and there was only 1 waitress and 1 busboy, which shouldve been plenty considering how few people there were. however, we had a hard time flagging the busboy down to refill our water glasses, and we had to explicitly tell him which people needed water he neglected to refill 3 empty glasses at the table since only 1 person had asked for a refill.

we started with mamas nachos (~$7), which was a plate of crispy-ish multi-coloured corn chips layered with cheese & salsa, sprinkled with beef, and topped off by a dollop of guacamole & sour cream. they were ok, but i thought that the serving was a bit on the small side, and was also slightly disgusted by the pool of oil that formed at the bottom of the plate.

for my entree, i chose the chicken tacos. the two soft corn tortillas came stuffed with chicken & lettuce, and topped with a smattering of cheese and tomatoes. they were decently marinated, and the all white breast meat tasted healthy. two of my friends got the chorizo fajitas, which they said was good. it was more generously-sized than my two small tacos and came with a side of rice. i forgot the name of one notable dish but it consisted of a pile of cooked seasoned tortilla chips with sliced chorizo & topped with a fried egg. the concept was pretty interesting, and it tasted decent, but also oddly a lot like the noodle dishes that you can get at asian restaurants (maybe it was the spices that they used).

overall, good value for the money. service could be improved, but it wasnt terrible.

Awful, awful service. Took long time to get noticed to even be seated. When we were finished took FOREVER to get the check and when we finally did it too FOREVER to get our credit card back. It was almost funny. Funny enough that the guys next to us commented on how bad the service was. Only good thing about the place are the margaritas. Will go back just for those but we will sit at the small bar and hopefully get timely service.

My lady friend & I arrived at 9 on a Thursday night. It was crowded but not so much so that 2-3 tables were still available. However, it took some effort to first get noticed and then get seated. It took some effort to get a server's attention after that (there were a grand total of two servers). It took some effort not to say "Are you kidding?" when the guacamole arrived after the entrees. It took some effort not to salsa dance on the server's face when we questioned why the main courses came before the appetizer; she responded "I'm not your waitress." That was actually kind of funny. It even took some effort getting the check. The only thing that did not take any effort was walking out of the place. If you like being frustrated and embarrassed during a meal, run to this place. Otherwise, run away.

Service and delivery suck. Didn't show up for the second time on delivery. Never again. Then they lie about it and are rude. Not much better in person where they make you feel lucky to get someone to wait on you. They do have good food, though.

Enjoy margaritas made with a range of high quality tequilas, a fanstastic array of appetizers, and flavorful, filling entrees. (I am vegetarian but others seemed happy to clean their plates as well.) The atmosphere is relaxed and fun, and the space is cozy without being crowded. The service was fast and friendly. Prices may be higher than your favorite taco stand, but for seated dining with all the perks, it's very reasonable. I will definitely go back, and recommend this restaurant if you're looking for an unpretentious environment without sacrificing great taste.
