Excellent Service

by Camatoz

I couldn't be happier with the service and staff. For an awkward procedure/experience, the staff's attitude and character truly eased my anxiety at every step. Thank you.

Highly recommended and did not disappoint

by TMVeritas

In my opinion this is the best OB/GYN practice in the New York City area. They can meet all of women's health care needs from the basic to more complex. They have excellent office hours. Their office is nicely decorated. They have efficient office staff.

This is a wonderful office

by ClairBear54

Based on my excellent experience with Eastside Gynecology, I referred my friend to the practice. To my shock, she said when she tried to Google their contact info, it returned with an awful review. After reading it, I have decided that this must have been written by a disgruntled past employee or something. Why? you might ask. Because the review is so sour, angry and just UNFAIR...My Story; Unfortunately, I have had to have 3 d&c surgeries because of miscarriages. Each time, my Doctor has sent me to an Abortion clinic for the d&c because it is MUCH cheaper. (I do not have health insurance) Talk about insensitivity and rudeness. I had the unfortunate experience of being a patient at two different clinics, primarilly because the treatment and upkeep was so awful, I refused to return only to find equally bad or worse treatment at the next sub-standard facility. Dirty floors, rude, cold staff, and that hurry up and go home feeling you got from the recovery room staff. ENOUGH!!! Then I found Eastside Gynecology. My experience and that of my fellow patients that day was quite positive, all things considered. We were all sharing how kind and gentle the staff was and that the office was clean and beautifully decorated. Not to mention the many other little comforts they have for the patients, like slippers... what a nice touch. If Eastside is a "factory type clinic", I could only hope that ALL other clinics pattern themselves after them. In my opinion, and also that of my fellow patients, Eastside Gynecology staff gave us comfort and confidentiality at a time the we were in the greatest need of both. Do yourself a favor, if the need arises, GO TO EASTSIDE GYNECOLOGY

DO NOT COME HERE!

by tuliplady

I am still traumatized 3 months later. A few years ago, I needed to perform a termination of pregnancy. I went to Planned Parenthood - long wait - but staff was nice, non-judgmental, and listened to me.

I needed another termination a few months ago because my husband and I cannot afford children right now. So we went. I didn't mind the wait - but I got there, and met the abortion masochist from hell. It took me two weeks to recover form the pain. They tied me down to the bed like a crazy person, their equipment was outdated, gave me anesthesia I explicitly told them I didn't want - and lied about the cost that my insurance company is now telling me I owe - and THEY BILLED ANOTHER INSURANCE CO. I DIDN'T HAVE!

Pardon my being graphic - I know this is a sore spot for many - but to those of you who might - do not come here. They treat you poorly, and then make embarrasing mistakes in paperwork. They told me I had to come back for an RHnegative shot I needed - and charged me a full visit!! This is something that should have been included in the first visit!

I am still waiting for a callback from a person that was angry at me for calling her out on her insurance mistake.

PP is king - and say what you want - they provide a valid service to people in much need. Go anyplace else but here...

Pros: None

Cons: Treat you like an animal, forget simple procedures...

Appalling Treatment. Trust me ladies, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!

by MayDay2Day

I had been using East Side Gynecology as my OBGYN for 2 years. I found them on the list of providers who accepted my insurance and they were close to where I was living at the time.

I had visited the office 5 times. I have never waited LESS than 45 mins. The worst was my last appointment I waited 2 1/2 hours. When I complained to my doctor she made an excuse, and I explained that I had never waited less than 45. She got very snooty with me and rushed through my pap and made me feel very uncomfortable.

The kicker was when I received a letter in the mail A MONTH after my pap, saying I had a "condition" that needed attention and I needed to make an appointment asap. This worried me, so I called right away and was told someone would call me back about my records. That was a Friday.

After still not hearing back from anyone, I called back the following Tuesday. I was told to call back on Thursday. I called back on Thursday morning, and was told to call back after 4. I called back at 4 and was told someone would call me. I called back again at 6:30 because (surprise) I still hadn't heard form anyone. I was told someone would call me back after 7. I called back AGAIN at 8:30, a girl answered, told me she didn't know if anyone would get back to me that night, to which I told her I thought their service was appalling and she HUNG UP ON ME! I called back LIVID, left a message on the machine of the ordeal and was called back Friday Morning by my doctor. One full week after the first time I called.

My Doctor told me that she only works on Fridays, and thats why I didn't get a call back. Couldn't someone have told me that instead of giving me the anxiety of not knowing my "condition" and getting the runaround the whole week?

Needless to say I'm picking up my records and seeing a new doctor now. I also never realized it was an abortion clinic, I can't image the stress of getting an abortion and then getting treated like this to boot.

Pros: No Pros

Cons: Wait Time, Unproffesional staff, general disregaurd for patients feelings

Do Not Go To This Clinic

by nyc191

I went to this office for a breast exam after finding a painful bump. I called and made an appointment and the receptionist was fine. On the day of my appointment I waited for almost two hours. There were about 3 other people in the waiting room. No one came to explain why we were waiting. I went to the front desk after an hour of waiting to ask if someone would be with me. The receptionist said that they only had 1 practitioner and so there would be a wait. Why would you make appointments that could not be kept? Why didn't anyone come to explain this to the patients waiting? When I finally was seen the nurse practitioner was brisk bordering on rude and after an examination she told me that I had a bump. She offered no explanation and just said I should come back in a month for a full exam. I will never return here and will find another doctor. Do not use this office for doctor services.

Staff was pleasant, but wait time is outrageous

by lunaharp

My wife and I show up twenty minutes early for our appointment, sign in, fill out half an hour's worth of traumatic paperwork, some of which references releasing liability for our voluntary termination procedure (which we were not there for - my wife had a miscarriage and required a D&C), and proceed to wait THREE AND A HALF HOURS surrounded by people listening to their iPods at full blast and talking on cellphones despite the many signs asking them not to do so. Several times we considered walking out and going somewhere else.

After we're finally given our own room for my wife to change, several nurses and assistants come by and ask us what we're waiting to have done. Finally, after an hour, my wife pokes her head out the door and asks when she'll finally be able to have her five-minute procedure. They tell us we're next in line, then another nurse comes in and says we have two in front of us. By this point, my wife's in tears and we wish we'd gone somewhere else. Keep in mind that this is her health. This is our parenting future on the line if something goes wrong. We have no faith in this place.

Luckily, the nurses were so helpful, kind, and understanding, which awards this place an extra star. But unless they work out their management problems and stop overbooking, I would avoid this place if you possibly can.

I'm so glad I read these reviews

by bkgirl28

After reading these reviews, I AVOIDED Eastside and researched EARLY OPTIONS, as a previous reviewer mentioned. It was the best decision I ever made. Early Options was wonderful, especially during a very hard time in my life. Even the telephone staff was incredibly knowledgeable and comforting. They told me their names and told me to call them anytime if I had any questions. They have long hours and flexible appointment times. When I got to the office, I was treated like a real patient of a real doctor - not like at some factory clinic where they push you through, and don't really talk to you about all your options. I was able to talk one-on-one with the medical assistants and the doctor (who is kind, humorous and believes in natural/ non-pharmaceutical/ non-surgical medical procedures, if possible). I felt very safe and private. My boyfriend was even able to hold my hand through the entire procedure. I highly recommend Early Options for anyone who is looking for a private, respectful, and well-informed environment for early termination of a pregnancy as well as objective advice on birth control methods. It's fairly expensive because they don't accept insurance directly, but it was worth the comfort.

Eastside Gynecology was actually much better than I expected

by FlyShorts317

Eastside experience was actually much better than I'd anticipated. I looked into to going to other clinics and this seemed to be the best option. I liked their VIP service because my abortion was private (I got there at like 4pm or somewhere in there) and my boyfriend was able to sit in the recovery room with me. Most of the staff was very friendly and helpful. Overall the experience was good (if an abortion experience can actually be that) and the doctors were nice. I'm actually planning to switch to their office for regular gyno visits because my doctor's office always takes too long and in talking with the doctor that was doing exams she seemed to be very thorough and honest... anyway.. good experience overall... I would recommend them

Horrible service....extremely upset!

by gahb

I went in after finding out I was pregnant. A woman did a Sonogram and had me get undressed while she was in the room (I find that odd) after I was told to wipe myself with baby wipes while she was still in the room. After my unpleasant experiece with the Sonogram I waited for 2+ hours hoping a Dr. would come talk to me about my options. Eventually I spoke to the receptionist who was nasty when I asked her I was interested in hearing about my options. Finally she spoke to a tech, I overheard her say "I dont know what to tell this girl" A nasty woman looks at my songram and tells me I'm not techically pregnant and there was nothing they could do for me...I had to ask her what the next step was and she told me to come back if I wanted in 3 weeks to see if the egg had implanted yet (I am preg just not showing up in ultrasound) No one offered to do blod work take my vitals nothing....The good news is I was so unhappy I went elsewhere and I love it...just the nicest people ever, it's clean they talk to you, and very few people in the office....It's called Early Options it's on 124 E 40th street 212-431-8533

Wonderful treatment, would certainly recommend.

by photogirl14

I had to terminate my pregnancy unfortunately at 17 weeks. My doctor recommended East Side Gynecology and before going there I read every review I could find. I was hesitant to go because of some bad reviews, but trusted that my MD wouldn't steer me wrong. I'm very glad that I went to this clinic. I had a 2-day procedure. During both visits I was treated with respect, dignity and warmth. Every person I encountered, from the receptionist to the recovery room staff, spoke to me with kindness and professionalism. I was very sad to terminate my pregnancy and broke down crying twice. Both times I was comforted by the staff with warm hugs and encouragement. I really couldn't have asked for better treatment. The nurses in the recovery room were very helpful and informative about aftercare. The surgical staff made me feel very comfortable (the MD held my hand and talked to me pre-surgery, without provocation. He was genuinely just being kind.) If I have anything negative to say about my experience I can say that I wish I had more information / counseling up front about the Day 1 of the procedure . It was very uncomfortable and I felt under-prepared for what was to come. My doctor should have filled me in better on what would happen, too. However, that said, overall I feel that everything went very well and that I was well cared for.

Pros: Nice facility, professional / warm / friendly staff, quality care

Cons: Could have used more info pre-op

Please take this to heart. This place is an abortion factory - please find a different clinic.

by AnonymousWoman

Before I went to Eastside Gynecology, I had come across the negative reviews online, but I didn't believe them because I trusted my doctor who referred me to this place. Like others, I want to warn all women in NYC of Eastside Gynecology's combination of unprofessionalism, apathetic attitude and ill treatment of patients. Please take this to heart. If you are in the unfortunate predicament of having to choose a location for your abortion, please ask your provider for another abortion clinic in NYC - I am sure there are plenty of others that will offer you quality care.

I was referred to Eastside Gynecology for a surgical abortion within my first trimester. As many women know, having an abortion is not an easy decision. Unfortunately, this center made the experience even more unpleasant and uncomfortable. They were unsympathetic, rushed me through the process without addressing my concerns and provided a consent form with grammatical errors, which I tried to correct before signing - however was reprimanded by their nurses for attempting to change the document. As I recall, the consent form stated "I understand HOT the abortion..."

My boyfriend and I both feel that Eastside Gynecology is set up like an "abortion factory," where women are led into the experience one at a time from the waiting area and then watch one another emerge from the surgical room within 5-minute increments of one another in the recovery area. During my follow-up appointment, the doctor refused to let me peek at my own medical records (I was told that she would answer any questions I may have, but that I shouldn't look at them by myself) and then told me that I asked too many questions when I was unclear about her answers.

Please try to find a different clinic in NYC. You deserve quality care, respect and compassion, not to be treated like a mere physical body going through a routine procedure.

Pros: None.

Cons: Errors on consent form, Rushed and rude treatment of patients, Unprofessional attitude

Horrible Place...DO NOT GO HERE!

by shykat

I was a patient here (not for an abortion, for a LEEP procedure) and it was horrible. There were a few really nice people in the scheduling office and my doctor was very kind, but everyone else is horrible. My appointment was bumped several times until I REFUSED to let them bump me. It just goes to show that the squeaky wheel gets the oil. Everything was very slow, I always got there early and still never was seen until easily an HOUR after my scheduled appointment time.

They stopped taking my insurance recently and so I had to switch physicians. It's been an awful process. I asked for a referral and they told me no...I had to get my referral elsewhere. What kind of doctor says NO to a referral? So, after searching on my own and through my insurance, I finally found someone else. However, I had to go through EastSide to get all my records and documents faxed. It was SUCH an ordeal. Every time I called the office to find out what was taking so long, the women answering were so horribly rude. They acted annoyed at the fact that I was disrupting them with my questions. God forbid, I disrupt their day, I suppose. I don't get angry when customers call ME at work...I expect the same courtesy when I call other businesses. Silly me.

Regardless, DO NOT go here. It's really, really bad.

THE OTHER SIDE OF EAST SIDE

by becky24

HI,
THIS IS MY FIRST TIME GIVING A RATING, I WOULD LIKE TO START OFF BY RESPONDING TO THE DISGUSTING COMMENT THAT CITY GIRL 11 HAD THE AUDACITY TO WRITE. WOULD YOUR STAY HAVE BEEN MORE COMFORTABLE IF THEY WERE PLAYING NIRVANA FROM THIR OFFICE AS OPPOSED TO HIP-HOP MUSIC. YOUR IDEA OF AN UPPER EAST SIDE CLINIC ARE YOUNG CAUCASIAN BLUE EYED GIRLS ISN'T IT!! DO U THINK U SHOULD BE GIVEN SPECIAL TREATMENT BECAUSE U WERE SELF-PAY? I DON'T THINK SO. I HOPE I BUMP INTO U O THE STREET, I WOULD LET U HAVE IT UPPER EAST SIDE STYLE!!YOU ARE OBVIOUSLY A SPOILED BIASED DUMB WHITE KUNT. YOU HAVE THE NERVE TO MAKE THOSE BIAS STATEMENTS REGARDING THEM COMMUNICATING IN THEIR NATIVE LANGUAGE ("YAPPING IN SPANISH") OR QUESTION WHERE THEY WERE EDUCATED, SUGGESTING THAT THEY COULD HAVE CAME FROM NO WHERE ELSE BUT A VOCATIONAL SCHOOL! WHY BECAUSE 95% OF THE STAFF ARE MINORITIES. GIVE ME A BREAK , I WISH I WOULD HAVE RAN IN TO YOUR COMPLAINING BUT DURING MY VISIT BECAUSE I WOULD HAVE KNOCKED THE HELL OUT OF YOU. THIS IS AN ABORTION CLINIC, NOT THE MARRIOT HOTEL, HOW CAN U EXPECT THEM TO CATER TO YOUR EVERY BRATTY NEED, U GOT YOURSELF KNOCKED UP SO DEAL WITH IT NOT BEING 1ST CLASS TREATMENT, YOU'RE STILL ALIVE AREN'T YOU. I WENT TO THIS CLINIC A FEW MONTHS BACK WITH A FRIEND AND THEIR TREATMENT WAS EXCEPTIONAL, THEY EVEN HELPED US TO A TAXI SO GIVE ME A BREAK , FOR FUTURE NOTICE , IF YOU WANT TO BE PAMPERED GO TO A DAMN SPA!!!!!!!!!!!1

Pros: CONVENIENT LOCATION

Cons: SOMETIMES A LOT OF PEOPLE

In Response to "David" (aka Staff from Eastside Gynecology)

by citygirl3311

Do you kid yourself mister. If you would like to bring up the issue of the staff/nurses/receptionists, they are Clearly the kinds of people who have graduated with assistant medical degrees from institutions such as Touro or the Katharine Gibbs school, which New Yorkers are more than familiar with thanks to endless television infomercials and subway posters. Yapping Spanish amongst themselves and playing hiphop music from behind their office doors isn't my definition of an Upper East Side professional clinic, neither is the entire staff ordering take-out food and reeking the clinic of China Fun (right around the corner) during business hours, pleasant. On top of that, since when do the nurses bring their children into work and have the boy wander in the waiting area? Besides all that, I can swear on God, nobodyyy from beginning to end even explained anything about my procedure to me even though I was self- pay ontop of paying for a VIP recovery room (an extra $250)... Hard to imagine how theyy treat the patients who have medicaid/medicare- probably as Another Number. So in response to "David" isn't it interesting how yourrr wife (who was treated) didn't botherr to leave a review yet you (a first timerr on citysearch) does?? Quite frankly what man who wasn't even the patient would take time out to sign up for a site justt to leave one review?? Would have believed you were actually a real patient as opposed to one of your staff memebers if it weren't for your immediately rushed response to my initial one, the fact that you are a male posting for the first time, and your wife couldn't even careless to post. Nice try buddy.

NOT RECOMMENDED

by citygirl331

The staff that works here is SLOW. Even with an appointment, you will be in the waiting room for almost 2 hours. Though they get the job done, the staff ISN'T very friendly nor do they care about the patients individually. They're simply a Business- Not caring people that should be working at a medical center.

(This is my first review on citysearch and I found the need to sign up for this site for the sole purpose of reviewing eastside gynecology and letting women know this clinic is def Not the best around).

Pros: Nice, convenient location (Upper east side)

Cons: Slow, unfriendly, uncaring

AVOID AVOID AVOID

by mariesmist

The medical care here may be adequate but the customer service is horrible. Do not believe the claims on their website and phone service that they provide compassionate care. My appts were mixed up. I was led room to room with no word as to what was expected. The waits are long with no explanation or apology. A formal complaint letter was sent and unanswered. On a subsequent visit, I was left in a room and forgotten about until I came out to ask what was going on. I waited over an HOUR to have my chart released to me so I could go elsewhere. The NP was unprofessional and brusque. When I spoke to the office manager of my concerns, she brushed me off and offered to give me names of other docs I could go to. Absolutely unacceptable that I was there FOUR HOURS for a 15-minute procedure. NOT RECOMMENDED.

Pros: upper east side location, variety of services

Cons: rude secretaries, long waits, disrespectful treatment
