If you want to have a party at a club in NYC don't try and book it through a promoter for that club, trust me, its too complicated. When I was trying to find a place to host my 22nd birthday i went on Access Gotham's website and chose HighBar from over 50 venues all throughout the city. They made sure my party of 42 people had no door hassles, VIP service, and a free bottle of champagne waiting for us when we got there!

Fellows I don't have this kind of expirence before. Door men were A** Hole. They don't want our business. They intensionally make people standing down for hrs and at the end just say excuse. They keep joking together. Over all very nasty serving staff.
In sort stay away from here. There are lot of good places to go in the city. So F**k them.

Wow! I'm not surprised that this horrible bar got only one star from most reviews. Never visit this place or you will get ripped off! The entrance looks very spooky. I felt like entering the haunted house--the wall was painted black and absolutely NOT classy. The elevator smells! Unfriendly/Horrible service and ignorant waitresses. Drinks come in a very tiny amount and totally overpriced! Literary, 3 sips of cosmo would easily cost you $17, plus 20% service charge. Expect to get 20% service charge while offering a total rudeness and ignorance to customers?!? Are you kidding me!?! The bar design is just ok, comparing to other beautiful and elegant rooftop bars in NYC. They can do better than that. If there is no improvement in the future, They should be consider closing down the bar!!

The worst roof bar to go in NYC, don??t recommend going there.
We went on sat night (were on list) waited for half an hour to get in (because they only have one elevator). Later on same night they didn??t let in a couple of our friends.
Dance floor was small and crowded; music was ok, people so-so, design ?? average.
Drinks extremely expansive- gin and tonic was $17 (usually same drink price is $8).
The worst part-this place closed at 2:30 am on sat night! But it takes 1 hour to get out of there. Do yourself a favor and go to another rooftop bar (there are a few better places in this area)

I went to the place and was amazed by the decor and the view... BUT the cocktails were way over priced... $70 for 4 cocktails!!!!! You can go to the Mandarian Oriental and be in a lush environment for less than that. Not only were they served in plastic glasses, there was also a 20% grat. attached.
Not cool.. and very bridge and tunnel if you ask me.

Went to HIGHBAR for the first time for a co-worker's gathering and was really impressed with what I saw when I exited the elevator. I work nearby and my co-workers and I should've discovered this place in the summer. It's really beautiful.
Unfortunately, I don't think I will be back or recommend this place to anyone after dealing with the staff.
There were two bartenders working but only one was serving group. The other bartender and waitress were too busy reading their magazines and texting on the phone. I finally got their attention to ask them if they could lower the temp as we were getting a little hot and she looked at me as if I was asking her to do me a huge favor. She didn't even bother to serve any of our guests cocktails that were sitting and stood there like she wanted us to leave. With the exception of the asian bartender the rest of the staff couldn't be bothered with us including the bus boys that were just watching TV. With no manager in sight we couldn't even complain. Too bad as this would've been a great place for our company gatherings.

Why spend your money here...don't waste your time. You are not welcome if you are bigger than a size 4, black or deemed not attractive.

Its is true the door policy is just awful. And the Italian door man is so rude. He was rude to my friends and exclaimed that the party was not for them, then suddenly the roof top was at capacity. Excuse me?!

Its the High Bar not the Four Seasons. This is the worst place to buy a drink in NYC, over priced, rude staff, and the view and music is not great

This is why I do not travel above 14th st. If most reviews are negative then there is a very big problem with this place.

Well this is New York and there is always somewhere much more better and way cooler around the corner.

In short...please do not waste your time.

I'm literally at this bar right now and i can't begin to tell you how rude our server is. She is making it quite clear that it is an annoyance to serve our party. For example we ordered a grilled cheese and, after having gotten no food or update for over 20 min, asked her about it. She sneered - and i mean SNEERED - "it's coming." We all had to chuckle at her incredible rudeness, which had manifested itself in many ways already, and she replied by yelling "well what did you expect to hear?!" ummmmm, how about "oh i'm sorry it's taking so long, let me go check on it." Then she went straight to her coworker and audibly retold the story about our incredulous inquiry. Unreal. Beware this place if you value decent service.

came here last week even though the weather was not ideal for a rooftop experience. Their indoor space is actually really cool too. My group and I had some of the food--Chips and Guacamole and my burger was awesome! a really great night despite the rain.

I am not even going to begin to explain the awful night me and my friends had at Highbar last night, but will do my best at making sure any TRUE NEW YORKER will not waste their time or money here. Unfortunately due to the awful management and DJ being so rude, what should have been a fun addition to my bachelorette party festivities basically turned a good night into a disaster! According to the DJ (who obviously was NOT from New York) there is 'no hip hop played here' so don't expect ANY good music. DJ, maybe you should make your rounds in the 20's on the West side and learn that good clubs actually play hip hop, then maybe you can actually get out of working for a club in the middle of Times Square? Set your limits a little higher maybe? I don't even know what was playing other than what I would refer to as god-awful Euro-trash TRANS techno, where the DJ literally pressed play on what was probably his Itunes library. Be wary of the security guards dressed like 'pimps' (full on HAT and pin-striped suit) as well as the tiny manager wearing pastels, who thinks he has the coolest club in Manhattan. Oh, and did I mention the bimbo 'model reject' waitresses who probably have no clue what day it is. Long story short, avoid this place if possible, and I prey it goes out of business as quickly as possible so other New Yorker's are not scammed out of a good night out.

We went to Highbar last Saturday and had such an amazing time. It was a group of us...roughly 20+ ppl. We didn't make any reservations but when we got there. The doorman was nice enough to accommodate our group. We ended up getting a table there since the bar was pretty busy. The service was really good no complaints on that side. The only downfall was that since the rooftop wasn't open the place was kinda stuffy. But overall we had a great time! Definitely recommend stopping by there in the spring time.

I had recently celebrated my 23rd birthday this weekend at Highbar. I wanted to write and thank the staff at Highbar. I had setup my birthday party through the promoter on Saturday. He help coordinate the guest list and making sure we had the private room reserved. When I got there with my friends they took care of us immediately. We didn't have to wait online. Our group was roughly about 100 ppl and everything went smoothly. I really appreciated the warm welcome I got from the staff and management there. Definitely recommend Highbar!

I had to entertain my friends from home and decided to go to Highbar since the weather was so nice. We didn't get a chance to call for reservations but when we got to the door the door guys were nice enough to take care of us. We were surprised that our check wasn't too high at the end of the night. We got 2 bottles and they gave us a bottle of champagne (not the cheap one, it was Perrier Jouet). Everyone was really excited with the views of the skyline.

I had my joint birthday party last weekend with my roommate at Highbar and I'm really glad we decided on Highbar. They were great in making sure that we were taken care of all night. The doorman sat us down and the waitress immediately brought us our bottle, etc. I would definitely recommend reserving a table...check out their party packages. It's not too pricey at all. They were also nice enough to make sure all of our guests didn't have to wait online. Overall everyone had a great time. Thanks again!

So, i made reservations and when I asked, the guy I made them with said that holding the table would be no problem, no bottle service, no fee at the door and no minimum required. AWESOME, RIGHT? Well, think again. When we got there, the security told me that they needed a credit card for a $350 min. When I told them I was told i would have no minimum, they told me the man i booked with got fired so his word was null and void. We ended up going in, they had the tables for us so all 20 of my friends started getting cozy and ordering drinks. About an hour later, the hostess sits about 15 people- AT OUR TABLE- and I was told it was because they wanted bottle service, so our table was taken away. So we decide to leave and go to one of our regular hangouts and I go to pay the bill and they demanded $350. I told them no way, i would pay what we owed and leave. They told me that they had my credit card and would charge it, to which I responded that they should because I wouldn't sign the reciept and dispute the charge through my credit card company. Eventually I paid the $200 bill (after they gave me an itemized receipt) and we left but my night was already ruined.

My birthday was Highbar was amazing...I couldn't be more happy. I called earlier during the week and spoke to the manager to see what was required. He was really accommodating and just stressed the dress code for the guys. I reserved a section and ended up purchasing two bottles which wasn't too pricey. The music was really good! Overall I couldn't ask for more. Definitely a good place to have your birthday party.

I attended a birthday party with a couple of my friends there. it was alright. think you might get lost once you get in. going to the penthouse, and when your drunk not fun to stumble out of. but the atmosphere, the people and great service. good DJ. unfortunately the drinks on the menu started at 16$ or was 14$. either way its too dang expensive for my taste.

I had just heard about Highbar from one of my co-worker who had her birthday there a couple months ago and she loved it. I thought why not give the place a try. I had one of the best birthdays ever. We rented out the 2nd floor which was perfect for 100 people. Everyone was so helpful with helping me set up my night. The people on the phone great at letting me know the flexibility of my package and allowing me to get whatever i want. The people at the door gave us no problems and my party didn't have to wait in any lines. The dj was amazing. Overall it was a fantastic night and i highly recommend the place for anyone looking to have their birthday.

People always write reviews about how mean door people are in Manhattan, and I would like to write a good review about the door guy at Highbar. It was absolutely freezing on Saturday, and my girlfriends and I were standing on line at Highbar. When we got to the front we were greeted nicely by the door guy, but we had to wait while she let a few parties go in front of us. We didn't complain, and stood there patiently, and the door guy was so nice to us, and he gave us some free drink tickets because he made us wait in the cold while she let the other parties go in front of us. Nice door people DO exist in Manhattan!

We celebrated 2 of my friends bday last night at Highbar and we had an incredible time! The manager was a big help setting up reservations for us. The staff really knows how to take care of their patrons and the music was great. Our waitress did an incredible job from setting up our table and asking us if we needed anything throughout the night. From the door staff, to the bartenders and waitresses, everyone was friendly and courteous. Again, we had an incredible night, and our thanks to the staff at Highbar for making it a fun night! We'll definitely be visiting again!

Read through the reviews. You know when a place is not worth it when half the reviews give it 1 star. I wish I could give it no stars, but alas, citysearch doesn't have that option.

Here are the reasons:
1) Dumba** idiot doormen. You remember the few times you get pulled over by a cop for no reason? Basically just having a power trip? The doorman at this joint are classless ex-meathead talentless jocks that couldn't make it in professional sports. All they have is attitude that screams insecure (especially as other posters have indicated because of their Wal-Mart blazer. For this place, which is targeting expensive clientele, the doorman should be professional and courteous. All I got was a rude stare and a power trip that makes the d*uche bag doorman sleep better at night.

2)Overpriced drinks. Mind you I have partied and been to many clubs and bars in the city, many of them that were expensive as well. BUT, Highbar seems to have a stick stuck up its a** because they can charge people $16 for a cocktail that isn't anything special or $12 for a kamikaze SHOT!!!

That is ludicrous. Almost as bad as investment (or formerly) bank CEO's robbing their clients (read Madoff).
I bought 3 shots for some friends, total was $36 dollars. The bartender didn't even give me my change!
Such classless service is all over the place here.

3) Bathroom is wierdly designed, with an attendant. I hate attendants. I can put soap in my own hands and pull a paper tower myself. I don't understand why these pretentious places have attendants.

The only saving grace this place has is the design and views. Everything else is horrible. If I could rent this place out or promote it myself, I could turn this place into a gem. But the owner/management don't get it. Customer service trumps everything in business. It's what separates winners and losers, good places and bad, great places and just good.

I "highly" recommend staying away from here.

Pros: Nice space, view, design

Cons: horrible customer service. Rude ineffective staff. Waaay expensive drinks

My company hosted an event at Highbar (we were limited to the area or would have chosen another rooftop) and I would not recommend it to anyone. The event manager promised that there would be heaters, a coat/bag check, and a bathroom attendant. None of these were in by the date of our party. The bathrooms were also dirty and there were dirty mops laying around in the open. Some of our food "was in the wrong place" on the contract and therefore never got served after repeatedly asking for it. The event manager that I had been working with for weeks even left before the event even started and passed me off to someone I had never met before.

Overall rude and condescending staff. Take your money to another rooftop bar in NYC. There are so many other spots that will treat you better than Highbar.

The worst experience I ever had in a bar...
Feels like they are doing you a favor when letting you in, a few huge males loaded with testosterone are spread along the long way in, one wrong word or move and you are out...
The only drink I had before I left was the worst mojito I ever had (also the most expensive...).
I had a contact with one waitress and one bartender, both where rude and impolite (seriously, I'm not talking about not smiling, I'm talking about a waitress who pushed my lady friend since she was on her way to the bar and a bartender who told me with anger "this is the way I do mojito, if you want to replace it, go upstairs" when I told her it has a wired taste...)

This was the first and last time for me in this place

I've spent a couple of Saturday evenings at Highbar and I really like it there... Going on the earlier side is great for a start to the night and you get the sunset as added bonus. Once it gets packed it's not usually my kind of crowd but its a lovely place to get yourself going! I'd like to spend less on drinks but I guess that keeps me on my feet for the bar scene downtown!

First off, I received HUGE attitude from bully's in suits from Walmart at the door. This was at 6pm for happy hour! The outside looks like a garage and the inside decor is cliche'. The rooftop was breezy and would be quite lovely, if it weren't for the horrific view. One of my friends was so turned off by the bouncers that they decided to leave. I will not be going back nor recommending it to ANYONE I know.

First impression when I received an invite was much better than when I actually went. First off meat head at the door asked where I lived before I was let in, "oh you live right next door in this big building, ok you can come in". Then upstairs its full of girls that still think they are in their HS click and guys with pink shirts and khaki pants. Not impressed with this crowd. Drinks were reasonably priced. If there was a better crowd I would roll back and since I can see the roof top from my balcony its that convenient.

If you like places that the dude the WOULD HAVE bothered you CAN NOT get into..... then you will LOVE HIGH BAR. If you have a problem with a place keeping its door tight so the people inside all get along then don't come here. I personally would RATHER spend a few dollars more on a drink and have a fun relaxed environment where everyone gets along.

This place has a great Hamptons meets San Tropez feel with big outdoor couches and luscious canopy beds to relax on BUT don't complain about getting a few bottles to use the real estate. Im sure you can sit inside at brothers jimmy's or outside at some sports bar for free so go there if you don't want to drop a few bucks or know someone that can hook you up.

The girls are hot the views are great and the beats are tight, what more can you want during the summertime.

Be nice to the doormen, be patient if you don't know anyone and chances are they will see your not an meathead with some money and let you in.

Seriously, I would rate this club as one of the worst in New York. The bouncers are unbelievably pretentious even for New York, meanwhile wearing H&M suits. The decor is hideously purple and the view is not even as good as any Upper East Side apartment. I would never even waste my time attending this venue and would certainly not recommend it to any of my clientelle.

Once you find your way through a shady maze to the elevator, you are taken up to yet another roof top bar. The inside,(or should I say outside?) is crisp and clean with the wait staff clad all in white. The majority of the women are leggy and beautiful. However, the men, as well as the views, leave more to be desired.

There are two kids of people in the world. The type that instinctively understand how special a dive bar can be and those that miss the point altogether and walk out pretty quickly after arriving. Highbar is a classic. As all of the reviews say, it's definitely a 'high bar.'

This place is much better than 230 5th in terms of crowd and ambiance but the view is somewhat limited. The doormen can be tough if you're ratio isn't good so come with your special lady. The drinks are slightly overpriced, but the signature martinis are tasty.

Much better than 230 fifth! Staff seemed trained and knowledgeable. Having worked in the service industry for years I could tell there was an uncommon sense of cohesiveness that made the space feel comfortable.

I went there on a nice summer evening just to check out the place with a friend. We were sized up at the door, and as we are attractive women, had no trouble getting in. I went to use the unlabeled non-gender specific bathroom and walked in on a man urinating. That was the highlight of my visit. The crowd was over 40 and yuppie-like. The servers would not allow us to sit in the many empty seats. The drinks were good, but at $16 a pop they ought to be. The feeling of discomfort and snobbish aura will be keep me away.

Loved it!! The atmosphere was laid-back, the staff was nice and accommodating and the space was perfect. It had a beautiful, diverse crowd -- and it seemed like the bouncer was making a special effort to keep it diverse and interesting, not exclusive and snobby. Good drinks. Very comfortable and welcoming place.

My friend and I went there last night to check out the place. I was going to do a happy hour there with a group of my friends, but after spending an hour there, I changed my mind. To reserve a table costs 600.00, what a joke. The place is small, the drink prices are ridiculous and the vibe is pretentious. We were asked to move several times because all the tables were reserved, which basically means that if you don't have a reservation, you can't sit anywhere except at the bar. The view is unimpressive and there are other rooftop bars in the that offer much more. Highbar feels like a calculated wanna-be where I wanna don't. I won't be going to back to this place anytime soon.

highly pretentious staff and just ok drinks. It's like b/c my group didnt come to the door with signs that say We're Millionaires, they didnt want us there. Well I make plenty of money - and i'll choose to spend it elsewhere moving forward.

Went to check out this venue last Friday because I live in the neighborhood and frankly - had nowhere else to go. There was a line of about 20 people outside and the bouncers/doormen were being quite tight at the door. Luckily I work in the industry and I was able to bypass the line with one guest. If you're used to the prices and lines at clubs in the Meatpacking District or Chelsea it's a pretty cool place to hang out before hitting a club. Once I got in, I did appreciate the door policy as the crowd was definately hand selected - mostly consisting of models and I'm assuming very rich guys (about half of them being downright ugly; though stylish in a gaudy Versace-kinda way). I personally think they could work on the music - which was an odd mix of an accordian, electric violin and a drum... trying to be hip with the live music - I guess. The crowd started thinning out around 12:30 - 1 am probably to go clubbing. Highbar is one of the only upscale hangouts in Hell's Kitchen. I do agree with the negative reviewers to a certain extent but I also do sternly believe that you can't blame the management for being selective should they want to uphold the venue's image. Bottom line, (for guys) be prepared by going with a group of attractive ladies and be ready to spend alot of money. Otherwise, Ava Lounge is on 55th and Broadway.

Like a few others have reviewed here, the first thing you experience when heading to Highbar is the most obnoxious, self important staff members that attend the door.
I always think it's quite sad when folks in such a position are clearly miserable in their personal lives and thus choose to usurp the 'power' of their positions to make themselves feel important. The truth is, when you are in that position, the most important person is YOUR CUSTOMER!

I was one of the attendees of a large party that booked a space at Highbar in advance. Our party was about 20-25 people and though a few were already upstairs, 15-20 of us arrived moments later only to be told our reservation didn't exist and they never heard of our friends inside. When attempting to provide an alternate name for them to check, the response back was callous and uncalled for.

Our group was comprised of all professionals in the entertainment business, and we often patronize venues that are comparable to Highbar for corporate events, parties, and more.
NEVER have any of us experienced the snotty holier than thou treatment we saw here.

The irony is that we would have been terrific customers for them to have inside - we might have enjoyed their absurdly priced drinks, etc, and we certainly would have been happy to share any positive experience with friends to provide them with future business. In the end the door person in question offered to let us in if we committed to a minimum spend. The irony was that the amount they asked for was far less than we were willing to pay but by that time they lost our business altogether.

I know it must be tough when one of your staff members is using his role to compensate for his own, um, 'shortcomings', but a new place like Highbar that already has this many negative reviews in their first month open may want to rethink their hiring strategies.

I came here on a thursday night. I kind of find it laughable that the place is so exclusive and acts like its 1Oak or Tenjune. C'mon guys its times square. I got in with my girlfriend right away but don't make a face like you're doing me a favor. The place itself is set-up pretty well and the view is good, not great. I like the bbq grill gimmick. While I didn't have any food, it did look good. The servers/bartenders are all good looking and you almost feel like you're in miami with the mixed crowd and vibe. However, as previous commenters mentioned $16 dollar drinks is a little much-this isn't Gansevoort in the Meatpacking on friday night or 230 Fifth with views that are truly impressive. I also have to laugh at some of the other reviews-whichever promoter/PR person wrote them, you have to tone it down a notch. Its too obvious to tell which reviews are legit and which are paid for. Overall, I'd go back if it was someone's bday or a special event but beware of the door and the prices.

The seating area and views are really well planned. We had a group of eight go after work . Comfortable places to sit (cabanas) and a beautiful view. Crowd is mixed--young and old. Met people I knew from other firms. Really nice night. We are planning birthday party next week. i liked the bar that is near the ledge to the right of the grill. Great views from there and wonderful breeze.

To make it brief...there is no better place to spend your summer than Highbar with their 360 degree rooftop view of Manhattan. The decor is beyond spectacular and the over ambiance is perfect to spend an entire evening with friends or meet new ones.
New York City hasn't seen a chic bar like Highbar in years. If you're looking for an extraordinary, new and fun place to chill...Highbar is the place to go.

Phenomenal views. Really cool exterior/interior design, there's a white roof covering the bar and the rest is open with seating areas and high communal tables with barstools. I love being outside in the summer and this place is just right. It's one of the more beautiful looking outdoor spaces I have seen. There's also an indoor space below they call a loft. I've been about 5 or 6 times. The door is tight but not overly difficult. It's exclusive, but still chill in a casual elegant sort of way which is nice.
The crowd is eclectic, seemed friendly and hip.
The bartenders are very friendly (the girl in the white shorts) and give fast service. I love the outdoor grill to grab a snack while sunsetting. I'll be going there as much as I can this summer. My new hot spot!
