I am a practicing physical therapist and finding a legit pilates studio with instructors who were educated on the mechanics of the human body like I am was important to me. I have been to many other pilate studios, but nothing compared to 6th street pilates. I am very impressed!

Pros: Small classs, one on one attention, knowledgable instructors

Whenever I go to 6th Street Pilates, I leave feeling and knowing I've gotten a great workout, but I am not sore, or feel that any of the trainers have not given me personal attention. The training is all about what works for me and with such small class sizes (8 at the most), you don't feel like you are in a room full of trainers who just want to get you in and out and on to the next class. I've felt terrific every time I've left and miss it when I am not there.

Pros: Terrific trainers - mindful

I've been going to Katherine's mat classes for four years now and not only has my body changed but I still look forward to classes on a weekly basis. I'm addicted to Sixth Street Pilates! I also love the atmosphere and have made wonderful friends in class. Thanks Sixth Street!!

Pros: Best Pilates in the city

I have been a student at this comfortable, low-key East Village studio for several years. As a result, I have increased stability and strength, greater body awareness and mobility, decreased back pain and improved breathing habits. The studio??s instructors are knowledgeable and personable, and they have the skill of teaching with endless patience while pushing students to achieve their personal best. They have transformed this formerly reluctant exerciser into a devotee.

I like to tease Jeremy, the owner of the studio, that he has performed a medical miracle with me and saved some insurance company hundreds of thousands of dollars. He laughs modestly, but it's no joke. I started coming to the studio close to four years ago. Back then my lower back would seize up in muscle spasms every few months, plane rides were awful, it even hurt to sneeze. I had been to an MD and knew I didn't have a disc problem, yet something was out of alignment. Acupuncture, visits to the chiropractor and Thai massages would help ease the pain momentarily, but the spasms and discomfort always returned. I have been working privately with Jeremy once or twice a week, more or less, for the last four years, and I have been pain free - 100% pain free - for at least nine months. I also feel so much better in my body. The private sessions are really useful if you are not very athletic or a dancer, because the teacher helps you understand your own body's mechanics in a way that only one-on-one instruction can provide. So whether you are looking to alleviate pain, or just feel better, treat yourself to the private sessions. Your body will thank you!

I have been going to Sixth Street Pilates regularly since 2004. I live on the upper east side where there are many exercise studios, so you can see how devoted I am to the place. I am most impressed with the quality of the instruction and the professionalism of the staff. The studio is immaculate and well run. The atmosphere is relaxed but serious. I love the pilates mat classes. If you don't mind splurging, try a private pilates session. It is very worthwhile.

Mat is great for me but I have been going to different classes depending on my schedule and all are really really efficient and dedicated. It is really worth the $15/class (and yes, it is really unexpensive...)
I suffer from the back a lot and these classes do an amazing job on me!
I'll add they lauched morning classes, which can be very convenient for some.
Go there and try it!

I have never stuck for any kind of exercise for more than a month, since I started going to sixth street pilates 4 months ago, I have notices that I have become addicted to it. I go to mat classes and private classes, and both are absolutely amazing. Even if you are in mat classes the attention is personalized, instructors get to know who you are and how your body works, they design exercise for your body specifically and guides you wherever you need help. They also talk to you about why your body works the way it does and how to improve on it. They have patience and they love pilates and how to teach. I am not planning to stop any time soon, and my life has changed since I began going to classes. Highly recommended for absolutely anybody!

I decided to bail on my former pilates instructor because I was confused and felt awkward with the process, and Sixth Street attracted me because it's relatively close to my home and the prices are very reasonable. I've now been taking private lessons with Kristin for four months and this is the first time I've stuck with any form of exercise for this long. And I have to say, I love it and don't see myself slacking off any time soon (and feelings of awkwardness are fleeting with her clear instruction and enthusiasm). Part of my success so far is understanding pilates and what it's done for my post-pregnancy body, the other half I credit to Kristin. I've worked with private trainers and pilates instructors in the past, and it's Kristin's style that works for me. The studio itself is environmentally-friendly without making you feel guilty if you're not, and from the moment I stepped into it, I've felt comfortable and welcome. A bonus for me is that they're located on a lovely side street in the East Village, so it's always a nice walk to get there.

I have been taking private lessons at Sixth Street Street Pilates for five months and it's definitely the best part of my week. It's my first experience with private lessons and I've been so lucky to have Ashley as my teacher. She's kind, funny, patient and challenging--and her expertise is staggering. The studio is lovely: small, clean, green, friendly. I have gotten stronger and best of all, found more of a connection between mind & body, as cheesy as that sounds. I can't recommend it (or Ashley) highly enough.

Each teacher at Sixth Street Pilates is more gifted than the next. You really can't go wrong with any of them. The classes are safe, challenging, fun & you come out really know something about your body as well as feeling stronger & more lithe. The studio itself is full of light--a very pleasant place to work out. I mostly study with Jeremy, who is patient, explains the moves very very well & makes class fun. Each class is different & I always leave feeling like that one was the best yet. Because the classes aren't stacked back to back, you have time to catch your breath afterwards. If you haven't tried pilates before, this is a great place to start, because the teachers really manage to work with everyone individually while still keeping the class moving,

I've been going to 6 street pilates for a couple of years now & no doubt this is by far the best pilates studio in the city. not only that the prices are sane, & they have classes in different hours, the teachers are the best teachers i came across in the city so far. they are innovatove, attentive and professional. I've been going to Kathryn's classes & i'm addicted to her classes; she makes you work hard & makes you laugh at the same time. Jeremy's classes are also great.

I have been to many different pilates instructors over the years and Jeremy is by far the best! I went to him for over a year before moving to California and loved it! I looked forward to going because he challenged me with exercises and kept it different in order for me to get the maximum benefit. He also listened and took the time to personalize the positions because I suffer from lower back pain and an ankle problems from an old accident. (You rarely get that attention in a gym or a group class!)

I am a part time resident of NY from Los Angeles - and I have been looking for a good pilates studio for a long time. Not only did I get hooked up with 3 very good instructors - but the environment is pleasant - clean - inviting and a pleasure to work out in. I couldn't be happier to have found a great east village pilates home!

Sixth Street Pilates get my whole-hearted, highest recommendation. I almost hesitate to broadcast how great is -- it feels like a great New York secret. But the staff here deserve all the accolades they can get. Everyone is professional, trained in multiple bodywork disciplines (dance, yoga, etc.) fabulous at what they do, sincerely interested in their clients progress and all in a low-key atmosphere. The individual session and the classes are both terrific. Whether you are a beginner or experienced, you'll feel at home, learn about your body, get in shape and have fun doing it.

I've been to enough of those intense power yoga and pilates classes at big gyms and snooty studios to know that I prefer the relaxed atmosphere of Sixth Street Pilates for my practice. It's a great neighborhood studio whose staff and students are friendly and respectful. I've taken classes from nearly all of the teachers there, and they are all equally kind, knowlegable, and attentive to students at every level. Rather than speed you through a sweaty and shallow work-out (that can later cause or aggravate injuries,) the instructors make sure you are making the right connections in order to perfect your yoga or pilates practice. I leave each class feeling a little stronger and smarter about my body. They also have great workshops with renowned experts for even more focused bodywork, and the prices are some of the least expensive in the city!
