I have had so many negative experiences already within the first six months of coverage I do not know where to start- I am not even certain why I write a check to them each month. From the customer service representatives giving out the wrong information to not being able to keep their stories straight. Now I am faced with a $1500 hospital bill for a procedure their "doctors" deemed medically unnecessary even though the procedure I had done found a heart murmur. I have a question for the Atlantis doctors out there- is a heart murmur not something you would want to make certain isn't something serious? Can you sleep at night?
Apparently their "doctors" review the claims and have the final say on what is covered- so basically they can deny coverage at will. If you are actually looking for heath coverage- seriously stay away from atlantis. For not much more you can get legit insurance from a different company. Its pretty obvious the one person with the positive review on here is working for them. Don't be fooled.

I signed up for Atlantis about 18 months ago.
Paid my premiums. and then upon taking my daughter to the doctor for an asthma attack was told by the DR. that they had called Atlantis who said that we were not covered. I get home and call Atlantis and they say "oh your covered, the Dr's office most not have spoken to the right person."
2 weeks later I go to a Dr. and the same thing happens.
Calling Atlantis is painful. those answering the phone barely have a command of English, and they are completely unable to give a straight answer to any questions. requests to speak to a supervisor or some higher up results in having to leave a message and never having your call returned.
I ended my insurance coverage and they still billed my after cancelling. now they are taking me to court for the invoices sent after I canceled the policy.
Stay far away from Atlantis.

It is probably the most affordable health plan for individuals, families and small business in New York City.

You can find out more or request a quote at planquote@gmail,com.

In addition to over 30,000 health care professionals, they have their own Medical Center in each borough exclusively for member use.

Following is a bit of general information from their web site.

Atlantis Health Systems, Inc., a New York corporation (the "Company"), was incorporated on April 17, 1995 as a holding company to be controlled by health care professionals residing in New York State and practicing in New York City. The Company has established a subsidiary, Atlantis Health Plan. The Company was organized by 12 New York physicians ("founding Physicians"). The Health Plan's central goal is to advance the cost-effective delivery of high quality health care in New York City by harnessing the skill, experience and knowledge of health care professionals at every step of the health care management and delivery process, and to recreate the health care partnership that once existed between the patient and the professional.

They refuse to pay for all medications until you appeal. Then they find other reasons not to pay for them. These are basic medicines that I have been on my whole life for asthma which are only about $35.

They have clinics around New York where you can make appointments and see a doctor without doing much paper work. That would be great if the doctors were not the worst I have seen in my whole life. Twice (in 4 visits) they have confused medicines. I came in with a problem that the doctor told me was related to drinking to much alcohol. I told her I rarely drink. She told me I was lying. Later I discovered that it was a common side effect of the medicine I was taking- the medicine she prescribed!

You can also find your own primary care doctor. They have a list. Some of the phone #s don?t work. One of the numbers had no one who spoke English. Most of the doctors are from outside the US.

I fear for serious illness. I have read their right to deny coverage statement and it reads unlike most legal documents. It allows them to determine if you are ineligible. Then you may take them to 3rd party arbitration but not to court. Their list of reasons one could be ineligible is long with fuzzy language.
