I go here about once a month with my husband and have never been disappointed. The food and atmosphere are both amazing. It is absolutely delicious and the ambiance is romantic and cozy.

They only accept cash, which is a small drawback. They do have an ATM in the back, but I'd suggest getting cash from your bank before you come to avoid the ATM fee.

Went to Aurora saturday night for a party of 4 we asked to be seated inside but were told we had to wait a while to get a table so they seat us in their magical garden. Their so call garden is a plastic tent and it gets literally frozen every 5 minutes then the heater is on and it gets terribly hot the whole thing it is obviously no made for winter... so now the food is ok not as good as it used to be but again you have to eat in 3 minutes or else food will be so cold that you can't eat it.

We just really liked our overall experience at Aurora in Brooklyn. Really nice decor, great atmosphere and fantastic food! We liked everything. Every single dish was elegantly delicious. Try their olives appetizer, I don't know where they get them, they are so fresh and tasty! Also octopus and baccala were excellent. As far as main course, I liked chef's special duck in a red sauce and butternut squash gnocchi. I had a piece from each of my friend's plate and let me tell you... there was absolutely nothing that I didn't like. Oh, forgot to mention their little pizza with pears and gorgonzola cheese. I highly recommend this place for people that want to eat upscale and elegant food at affordable pricing.

I know food, and Aurora has missed the mark. Why get so fancy when you can't even cook the basics? No salt and pepper on the table and guess what, none in the food either. I don't care if they don't use salt, just use something that gives taste. Ratings out of 10:

Food overall = 4
Focaccia = 9; Regular bread = 5
Cod fritters = 5 - missed terribly on the bland sauce!
Meat plate app = 5 - Give me 5 minutes and I'll beat the crap out of this lackluster meat plate
Butternut squash dumplings = 6 - great texture, missed again on the sauce, BLAND taste
Chestnut pasta with wild boar ragu = 3 - didn't get a lower rating because it was edible. Again, got fancy with the boar but lacked any kind of taste. Filled me up and I felt robbed
Pasta w/ mushrooms = 2 - This dish outraged me. My Stepdad described it as "light." Yes, it was light, and even lighter on taste
Tiramisu = 3 - I order this desert EVERY time it's on the menu. It is my "go to" desert at Italian. Sloppy texture, too creamy, missed on taste, not enough alcohol or coffee, served in a square glass (WHAT?! why so fancy pants?). All in all, a total disaster.
Panna Cotta = 4 - slight improvement from the Tira but still a miss. Good texture but again, it's about the taste!

Service = 4
I used to work as a waiter, so I know it's difficult to be in a good mood all the time but it was early in the night and our waitress was cold. She didn??t come when I waived to her, she didn't answer my question about beer that I asked her twice. She didn't even know the 7 beers they carry and which ones were dark. She got relieved at the end of the meal for whatever reason and that waitress totally whiffed on my Stepdad's desert. When I asked for salt, I got big-chunk sea salt. FAIL! The food came super fast, which boosts their rating.

Atmosphere = 7.5
They are so close to a 10 but they don't even know it! How do you miss fine details like this is beyond me, it almost makes me angry. Why are the tables so small? The lighting scheme needs serious work. Only got to peek at the garden but it looked nice. Why are you not accepting credit cards?! Cheating on your taxes? Boneheads!

Overall, it gets a 5/10 average between the 3 categories. But I erred to the side of 2 stars because they butchered their deserts and 2 of their 7 beers were 750 ml and nothing on tap. Extensive wine list but whatever! Every decent restaurant has some wine to choose from. Ultimately we come to eat... and Aurora, get your act together y'all.

Pros: Decor, focaccia

Cons: Food, service, lighting, tables... what else is there?

First of all its supposed to be located by the waterfront. Not the case. Its actually up the block in a deserted area where the garden is shielded by what looks from the outside like an abandoned parking lot.

We were taken to the garden on a warm day and what is suppose to be an outdoor garden is covered by a plastic tent, no ventilation no open doors...the tables are dimly lit with candles covered by small paper bags! How Frugal.

Most importantly, we passed on the bottled water and were served warm tap water--no ice! We tried the octopus --three small tender pieces on a very large plate and the scallops--5 very thin slivers of scallops covered in garnishes. For the main course, the seared salmon was served in a plate of green water and empty mussels the salmon was slightly undercooked on one side. No sides served with main course. The short rib, was a piece of tender albeit blubbery steak served with polenta sauce that tasted more like grits. A side of potato or asparagus was an additional $5.00. The margarita, too strong on the tequila and very bitter not quite what I remember a margarita to be!!!! Overall, the most enjoyable part of the meal had to be the bread basket. Too much focus on presentation and too pricy, very small portions and who the heck ever heard of organic Italian??? This is not keeping up with tradition...would NOT recommend at all. We had to go back to Manhattan and have dinner there the same night.

Well, if you have a date, this is totally the place to be. Book a table in the winter garden. And make sure you share a couple of antipasti!

went to aurora last night (thursday), 2 of us, and had a beautiful relaxed night. we wanted to taste the new menu and we had a couple of appetizers, a pasta and 2 entrees and everything was just as expected - really well prepared and well served.
the staff was relaxed and prompt with service, welcoming us without unnecessary big deals, but with a sincere nice and simple attitude. our waitress was also well informed about food ingredients and wine information(!).
although the weather was not that nice, the restaurant was surprisingly busy; the hostess helped us with a quiet table and she didn't make us wait very long to be seated.
again, just as expected, a very nice dinner in a very nice environment where you are made to feel like home.

Aurora has good food, but if the server forgets you exist, the food will never come.
We went for brunch (10/14/07) knowing from previous visits that we were in for some well-crafted food and drink. It took some talking to get an outdoor table without reservations (for Brooklyn brunch?!). There were five open tables but we got to sit down pretty quickly and ordered our food within 10 minutes.

We drank our coffee and had some juice. Plates of food seemed to be heading everywhere but to our table. After 45 minutes I raise my hand to our server to get some more coffee and she says, "DID YOU WANT YOUR CHECK?"

WTF? Hello!! We never got our food. Our server like deer in headlights froze in fear and went to speak to her manger and hostess. It appeared that she hadn't even submitted the order to the kitchen, but regardless, we were done. This was unacceptable for a restaurant that considers itself a notch above most of its surrounding eateries.

Another thing to note and this just may be a difference in cultures, but the manager and the hostess are very European, i.e. overtly nonchalant with customer service skills, lacking eye contact or actually listening when you are trying to talk to them. It helps to act sincerely sorry when you mess up and instead they told us that it was the kitchen's fault. Who cares if it was the dishwasher or the owner's fault, it was the restaurant's mess up.

It's a shame, but I'm done with Aurora for now and as a general rule, think twice before entering a restaurant that's hosted by rude, insincere Euro-trash.. it may be an indicator for the rest of your visit.

Got to Lodge, Sweetwater, Dressler or Enid's, you'll pay less and you won't be treated like crapola.

When my then-boyfriend asked me to marry him after taking me to Aurora, we decided then and there that we wanted to have our wedding reception there. The service was amazing, the wine was delish and the food was superb. We left very happy. We loved that there was a park at the end of the street (we were going to have our ceremony there but we couldn't get the permit due to "construction" so we got married at a park in Greenpoint instead, which worked out very well)...three days after the wedding and we're still hearing about how fabulous the restaurant / food / wine / service / ambiance was. The menu was incredible. They were accommodating to all of our vegan friends and the waitstaff moved like ninjas...virtually invisible and incredibly attentive and professional. Carmel (the manager) was wonderful through the planning process and she answered all of my questions as they came up. They even decorated the restaurant exactly how we wanted (we provided materials two days before and I didn't have to worry about a thing). We were treated extremely well and if I had it to do all over again, I wouldn't change a thing. Thanks to Aurora, our wedding was absolutely perfect.

We went at AURORA reastaurant on thursday night. We went there to celabrate my 29th girlfriend's birthday.
I also celebrate my one 3 months ago.We had an amazing experience as usual,
The waiter reccomended us a really nice bottle of Barbera to have with our meal. The service was speedy and delightful. For an appetizer, I had the absolutely mouth-watering burrata (buffalo mozzarella). I then had the gnocchi with mushrooms ragu' which was very good. My wife had the pappardelle wild boar ragu' which she loved. For dessert I just had to try the cherry tart in combination with a glass of Sagrantino passito reccomended from the waiter as the initial wine.Exellent!!!
I love the decor of the restaurant-very warm and cozy. I am definitely returning to Aurora, my favorite Italian restaurant. I give it a 10 in all the fields. Thanks Aurora and its staff for making my dinner such a memorable experience.
Excellent wait staff, great food, and the place is wonderful.
We will definitely be visiting here again, and hopefully soon!

Intimate & rustic atmosphere. The food was fresh and delicious! It is amazing - great service, fabulous food, wonderful wine! The ambiance is also relaxing.I found my new favorite restaurant. The staff was so attentive (and adorable)and helpful that it was a dining pleasure. The food was so amazing - we tried so many dishes to get a great tasting - fava beans salad ,duck reccomende m/r, homemade pasta , the most fresh mozzarella I've ever experienced - everything was just perfect. I literally can't wait to go back to Italy and this restaurant. The sound levels were just right that we were able to have intimate conversations all evening. The temperature inside the restaurant was perfect and the windows were all wide open to let in the great breeze that the city had tonight. Everything was spot on!
I strongly reccomended to have dinner at Aurora restaurant for the wonderful food, exellent wine list and professional stuff.

I went here on Sunday with 7 friends for my birthday as I'd been here twice before and loved the food. Despite the fact that we were a large-ish group that ordered champagne immediately upon sitting down we had the WORST service I have ever encountered. In the past the service has never been exceptional but it was never so bad as to overshadow the rest of the experience. Before the champagne had even been halfway drunk, our waiter was harrassing us about buying more alcohol and continued to do so even after we assured him we would let him know when we wanted more drinks. He took our appetizer orders and waited 20 minutes before he returned to take our dinner orders and then blamed us later for the delay; he brought half of the cocktails we ordered and left us alone without the rest, later returning to explain that they had a shortage of martini glasses and then (much) later giving us our martinis in cabernet glasses... one of them being undrinkably "dry"; and he was completely MIA for about an hour after we had our entrees. They didn't seem understaffed at all... there were plenty of glassy eyed waiters clustered together talking, or meandering around avoiding eye contact. It was really frustrating and we agreed that the 20% gratuity included on our sizeable bill was not an appropriate exchange. This is NOT something I or any of my friends do often (most of us have worked in food service) but we requested that the manager comp our drinks and he obliged. The WORST part of the meal followed when the waiter had the nerve to come to our table and argue with us about the comped drinks. I was trying so hard to be polite I actually started to explain to him why we were upset before one of my friends cut me off and asked the waiter to leave. The waitstaff was so absurdly rude and hostile, we left Aurora feeling uncomfortable. I've always recommended this restaurant on the merit of the menu and the wine list, but I'll now be warning people off in view of the service :(

Ok, so i'm not one for writing reviews online for restaurants, but this place was really bad both times i have gone there. The first time, my wife and I ordered the rib eye for 2 and there was a bloody meat cloth underneath our steak- no joke. They acted like it was a chore to deal with the situation, and were not very nice about the whole thing. We decided to be fair and go back to give it a second chance. The front of house was not very nice yet again and we ended up waiting an hour and a halff to sit down. We watched the staff argue, and the manager argue with other patrons while we all waited for them to figure out how to run the front of a restaurant. It was actually a little sad to watch them struggle so much. The manager knew what was going on with us and just ignored us completely. Anyway, the only thing keeping this place afloat has to be the chef, who's food was really great the second time around. I also noticed the chef getting angry frustrated the manager at one point as well.

The food at Aurora is amazing. The physical atmosphere as well. My friends and I would eat here 3 times a week, but lately, there have been so many kids/strollers/obnoxious parents that we have been looking elsewhere. It's not an inexpensive restaurant, and if I want to go to a kiddie restaurant, I'll go to Chucky Cheese.
A couple of weeks ago, I went by myself with a book to have dinner and a glass of wine. The restaurant was almost empty. After I'd started my meal, they seated a family w/ a 2 year old right next to me. The kid was fine but the father parked the stroller UNDER my table on top of my foot, didn't apologize and then proceeded to talk in a DADDY voice loudly to his kid. The staff could have seated them elsewhere or asked me if I wanted to move. I immediately had my $70 meal packed up and took it home.
I have no problem w/ parents bringing their kids or babies to restaurants, but they often seem to forget about the other diners who are out. In these cases, I expect the restaurant management to be mindful of the rest of us who are out to either just have a lovely meal/dining experience and good grown up conversation. I can't even imagine having a romantic meal here with how it has been lately. It's a shame. I love everything else about it....the staff, the food and the physical ambiance. Other people I know from the neighborhood also feel the same way....

Pros: amazing food, cool physical ambiance

Cons: too many strollers and obnoxious parents lately.......

.

Great atmosphere, dim lighting and romantic. The service is a relaxed but nonetheless involved in making the experience feel special, homey. In fact, eating here was the first time I felt at home again with my Italian mother?s preparations. But the food is more than that ? gourmet with lovely presentation ? there is nothing on the menu that doesn?t make your mouth water. The menu goes from fois gras to Bolognese to beet tartar. A love for fresh seasonal ingredients is clear here ? the specials change daily? The wine list is made for the menu and the manager kindly recommended a reasonably priced bottle to accompany our meal. Highly recommended!!

Pros: ambience, food, wine list, garden

Cons: I wish they were in the city! (rumor to be opening in Soho)

The food was creative but lacked full flavor. Portions were appetizer size and were served as the main dish! The manager was trying to remove a cork from a bottle of wine that had been contaminated with a broken cork and did so in front of our table to our amazement since he served it anyway to an unsuspecting customer.
The wines were way overpriced. I will NOT travel to Williamsburg to this place to be underserved and dupted!
Also the manager grabbed the cash out of my hands rather than allowing the waitress to take the money which included her tip! THEY ALSO RUSH YOU.........was not a good dining experience.

Ever since I discovered this place I can't get enough of it. The food, the atmosphere, the service, everything is amazing. If you want a romantic dinner on a friday night it's perfect. If you want a relaxing place to have brunch with your friends this is it. Don't be intimidated by all the good looking people you see coming in and out of Aurora, it is very down to earth and the staff are all very nice.

For my birthday my husband brought me to this magical Italian restaurant.
It was a perfect night. The waiter was simply fantastic, everybody was friendly, and the food was amazing. It felt like we made a trip to Italy without ever leaving New York. We had a very romantic dinner and I will definitly come back.

I have been to Aurora several times over the past year, and it has become my favorite restaurant in New York. The atmosphere is comfortable, romantic, and warm; the servers are always friendly and attentive even when the restaurant is quite busy. The food is quite simply amazing- and often inspires me to attempt home recreations of dishes I've had. You must order the burrata appetizer (fresh mozzarella with a cream center), the salads are amazing- not an afterthought. Vegetarians and meat lovers have many options. The wine list is great. Aurora is well worth the trip, again and again.

Took my husband here for his birthday. Our reservation was for 8:30, we arrived at 8:36 and the host told us that he was "just about to give the table away". Whatever. The good news was he was the only jerk in the restaurant. Everyone else, including our waitress was great.
The food is amazing.
Can't wait for another celebration.

I and my husband, a native of Italy were guests at a friends birthday party last week. The service was smooth, attentive, and the food was teriffic. It was the first time in a long time where we enjoyed everything from beginning to the end. from the moment we were greeted at the door by the warm Maitre'D to our patient and knowledgeable server. We returned last night , just the two of us for a romantic dinner. Aurora TOTALLY came thru again. The tortelli filled with squab was to die for and we had the special hangar steak ( for 18$) the price is right, the atmosphere is cozy, charming and rustic and the wine list is filled with all Italian wines at excellent price points. This is sure to become one of our favorite spots. Worth the trip from the city.

Now you go to an italian restaurant about 6 to 8 times a month and finally your mouth tells you someone in the kitchen gets it right.I had the stuffed quail just simply the right notes, the artichokes same thing tender right savoryness someone in the kitchen knows his produce. The service was pretty good and suggested an inexpensive fun sicilian wine that worked great with my gnocchi with beef,my guest had the fish cacciuco/boullibase very very happy. The ambiance and the music was fun and relaxing, i love their garden and can't wait for it to be open.We decideed to have dessert and i had the gianduia budino and my guest went for the waiter suggestion of the umbrian dessert both very decadent and well done. You could just savor the many hours spent over evry single dish. This is a great bargain williamsburg people get up and take advantage of it.

I went to Aurora for the first time with friends, Williamsburgh area take me back in the past, the restaurant ambience is very rustic, they put olive oil and bread on the table the bread is very good remind me the bread I used to eat in Italy, the food was very good and tasty, but the portions are ridiculos small I mean for what you pay at least you deserve a modest portion, I ordered filet sol and gamberoni with a delicious red sauce the size of the fish was microscopic, i just made the the plate clean eating bread, my wife ordered ravioli, we could barely see them in the plate, our friends complain also with their portion so miserable small, I really dont know if I ever go back there unless I'm on diet, maybe I will if they will make adjustment on their portion.

Really delicious. Had pasta with clams, small clams. And tiny tiny portions! Delicious bread, and they didn't want to bring more when requested, saying they didn't have any! Cute atmosphere. Price? More on the expensive side. So in summation, delicious food, kinda pricey, and you don't get a lot for your buck. If you like nouveau -- which means tiny portions -- you won't squawk.

Absolutely phenominal talent in the kitchen. Aurora has never let me down. While not exactly cheap, you get more than what you pay for with perfect portions and impeccable preparation. Not much more I can say about it, the food is fantastic - what else can you say?

I have litereally had dreams about Auroras. Ive been three times, twice for dinner and once for brunch. Their brunch was delicious and very affordable but nothing too crazy. Pretty classic brunch menu. Dinner, however, is a different story. The homemade pastas, especially the ravioli with orange powder and the orrichetti with Wild Boar Sausage, are just ridiculously delicious. A salad I tried with riccotta, candied nuts, spinach and watermelon, has literally popped up in my dreams it was so good. During the summer, seating in the garden is prime. An herb garden where you actually see the chefs cutting from, is charming. Great addition to Willliamsburgs score of dining. If I remember correctly, make sure you bring cash, they dont take cards!

I went here on a date and the experience was wonderful. Candlelit tables, efficient service, delicious food and very affordable. The pastas and seafood shine, and the desserts will absolutely blow your mind. Very highly recommended.

A note: go early, or on weekdays. When we arrived, the place was practically empty -- within 20 minutes every table was full.

Went there w/ reservations for 6 and was promptly seated. Nothing too special about the atmosphere, but it was warm and inviting with a charm all its own. Through the darkness, you could see a large bay window which showed the moonlit outdoor garden which instantly made me want to revisit this place in the summer. The food was fabulous (we ordered many appetizers and many different entrees and shared it all; none disappointed) and the value was quite nice. Crowd was sophisticated and probably a bit more mature (read: old) than most other places in the neighbourhood, but that's not a problem. Service was attentive without being overbearing - fun, even. At the end, we were served complimentary shots of limoncella which was a delicious and esophagus warming way to head out into the cold night.

This has to be the best new restaurant in Williamsburg. Truly wonderful food in a beautiful space with nice service. And just off the beaten path enough to escape the hipsters- the crowd was low-key and sophisticated. We'll definitely be back.

Amazing italian food served by a warm and friendly staff! It seems that lately much of Williamsburg has fallen victim to a "cooler than thou" attitide. That makes the arrival of Aurora that much more of a blessing!!!

Long before Williamsburg, Brooklyn, became one of the city's best restaurant neighborhoods, this Italian eatery was cooking up above-average Roman-style fare. In fact, Aurora was so successful, it made the jump over the East River, opening…
