I tried all the Moroccan restaurants in nyc i think and this is so far the BEST. The food is always superb.
I always order the couscous lamb or the bastilla along with tha arugula salad !! Delicious ! It is very rich in taste.
I have been a regular and the staff also knows how to treat and welcome you !
Strongly recommend the place !

my husband and I love moroccan food, so we went for a dinner. We decided to order some appetizers. Hummus was ok. Spicy shrimp...sauce tasted like it came from the next door (Bricklane Curry House). Patatas bravas(crispy potato with herbed spicy harissa aioli).. cubed french fries with chipotle sauce.
I don't know what to say..They are far from moroccan food or mediterranean.
By the way, it took forever to receive the food. I didn't want to tip at all, but my husband gave them too much tip...so we had an argument afterwards. Thanks for that! We won't go back ever! mogador is super fast and good food.

The ambiance is sexy with dim lighting. It is great for a dinner for two, or gathering with a small group of friends around the pillows.

As for food, their Moroccan chefs make a great Berber lamb w/ couscous (tastes just like they make in Morocco!), and yummy chicken Fez.

I don't know where to start :) We were warmly greeted at the door and we felt like we are truly welcome to the place. Then we ordered some drinks, my friend got a Strawberry Margarita, and I got a La Poire St. Germain. Both drinks were AWESOME, perfectly mixed and delicious. Then we got several appetizers which were extraordinary. We got the Harrira soup (which is a must have), the Spicy Prowns, the Meze plate and the Bourekas. Everything was brought to us speedily. Then we continued to the main courses which were the Fish Tagine and the Mixed Grill. The portions were generous, the food was cooked to perfection. Noone rushed us and let us take our time. At the end we left a generous tip because the service exceeded our expectations with courteousness and speed. We will definitely be back !

I took my boyfriend for his birthday on a Sat. night. We had 9:30 reservations and got seated immediately....which was nice! Surprisingly enough the place wasn't crowed...that was definitely a plus!! Now I was all dolled up and I asked the nice waitress to take a picture of me and the boyfriend. After she clicks the picture, she says to me, "You're so gorgeous. I hate you!" and walks away! ok??? I guess I should have been flattered but it did feel a little bit weird to hear that. At around 10:45pm, I'm looking around to see if the belly dancer is any where around, and that's when the waitress comes up to our table and says that the dancer is "stuck in traffic" and won't be coming. Ugh...We were SOOO disappointed. That's the whole reason that we went there!! So she offered us a complimentary hookah. Ok?? No thanks...we got 2 drinks instead. Not bad :-) I did really like the meal and the ambiance of the place. Will I go back??? Yes...but I want the see the BELLY DANCER!~!!!

Went to Zerza last Saturday, when we got there we found out they moved a couple or three doors down from the old location! We thought the new space is very romantic but most important was the food: Everything we had was truly delicious and very tasty. At around 10:30 pm a pretty belly dancer showed up and added that nice touch to our dinner experience. Congratulations to Zerza for a great executed operation and for managing to capture the same unique and exotic ambiance.

Did you know that Zerza moved? I didn't...They moved few doors down the block, and lost 3/4 of their room. It was sad to find that out upon arrival. Now Zerza looks like a tiny narrow corridor with tables on both sides, not much of the menu and most likely no belly dancer (did not see one on Saturday night, but there is just no space for that!) The service was very nice/pleasant/friendly. I can't say that the food was bad overall, but my lamb tagine was not very tasty (the lamb itself was lacking flavor and was not) very tender. I will not return to Zerza, it lost its ambiance that I used to enjoy, and I am certain there are better places for Moroccan food.

The food is absolutely amazing! My favorites are the chicken bastilla, meze plate, duck confit, and the baby lamb chops. I used to go there all the time, but now I live so far away from everything. It's a shame they don't have another location around where I live. They have everything from belly-dancers to hookahs, excellent food, superb customer service. And they take care of their regulars. It's an awesome place. I highly recommend it.

Now I see why so many previous reviewers pick Zerza for birthday dinners. It a terrific place for a special celebration since it's small and quiet enough so that 8 or 10 people at the large could all talk to each other and be heard without screaming. But don't wait until you have a large group to experience this great restaurant. I ate there tonight as part of a party of two and had a fantastic meal. We shared the grilled salmon and the vegetable tagine, both of which were superb. Service and ambiance were great too. I can't wait to go back!

First things first - the staff at Zerza are superb! It was a windy snowy/rainy night that we got there, late of course by almost 30 minutes for our reservation, but they still had a table ready for us. But we didn't like the spot because it was right underneath the stairs, so we asked the manager if we could get a different table - he said no problem! we just ordered drinks and waited till a table upstairs got free and we were relocated. Staff were very attentive and friendly. The food was amazing although it did take a bit longer than i expected for the appetizers, but they were well worth the wait! Drinks could have used a bit more kick, but overall excellent experience. It was a bit tight to have the bellydancer though, not much space for her to move around so she practically bumped into our table a couple of times. Would definitely go back!

Was there on a Sat with 3 people for a birthday dinner, apparently this is a popular spot for birthday dinners. The food was not bad, but I've had better Moroccan, the cous cous was somewhat tasteless. Most of the diners there were there for the belly dancer. Some of the male diners got rowdy and somehow took the belly dancer for a stripper. The belly dancer was ok, but I thought she was just the opening act. She picked different guys to join her on the floor, which was funny at first but got tired fast. I had a good time but wouldn't come to this place for the best Morrocan.

This place is awesome! I have been to Zerza a few times and always had a wonderful time-the food is absolutely delicious and the staff is always friendly, helpful and professional. I recently celebrated my birthday there and it was truly memorable. The owner was so helpful in planning my party-he even had a special three course dinner menu prepared just for us! The cozy atmosphere and cool music went over really well with my friends, who now love Zerza just as much as I do. Also, be sure to try the Lebanese wine that our waitress recommended-It was fantastic!!

Zerza is absolutely fab. I went for a friend's birthday dinner and we had a lovely time. The ambiance of the place is great, especially the cozy second floor. The food is absolutely delicious- you must try the feta with honey. Oh my God, we couldn't get enough. The hummus plate with all different kinds of sauces was so good- and this is coming from somebody who doesn't even really like hummus. The wait staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. The malbec was great. And we ended the night with apple-flavored hookah. It was just a lovely night and the ambiance of the place really made it great. And while not dirt cheap, it's definitely affordable. This is the kind of place that people search for in NY. I will definitely be back.

When planning a friend's surprise party, I was often disappointed with the service/ return calls I got from other restaurants. from The moment I called Zerza the service was fantastic. The party was a huge success with all 12 people having a great time. The food was delicious and came at perfect intervals. The service was ATTENTIVE and thoughtful. And the belly dancing added a great element of fun to the party. Thank you! I will come back here again !

The first time I went to Zerza, I was one of 4 people. We were seated promptly and had a very enjoyable dinner. Recently I arranged a birthday celebration for a friend with a larger crowd of 15 people and was disappointed with the service. The waitresses were rude and we were kept waiting an hour (or more) beyond our reservation time. Needless to say the birthday girl was less than impressed. Having said that, I very much enjoyed the food and music there. My suggestion would be to go there in small crowds, but don't try to arrange an event there.

Beautiful rose petal strewn surfaces, moroccan tiles, waitstaff that knows their stuff & to top it all off, delicious homemade FIG ice cream. the food is the true star here, although the beautiful atmosphere is so nice, it's almost distracting. Perfectly spiced briwats, perfect hummus, and enough mezze to make a meal of.

Algerian and Moroccan wines round out the experience. Only drawback is a tasty sardine dish that's just a teensy bit overcooked. Overall, a true delight!

Zerza is a trully Marocain place. For those who loves Maroc go there you will be surprised and really pleased, you feel like overthere across the ocean, for the other you should better try once in your life a chicken bastilla or a prune/apricot/ almonds tajine...excellent food really excellent!!!
The staff is really busy running every where but always with a smile and always to please the guest so what ever negative review I've read on this place, this restaurant is my one of my best experience so far in NYC.

Slow, slightly overworked staff but nice food and atmosphere. The space feels a little crowded -- too many tables in a small space, but overall, not a bad place if you're looking for a cozy ethnic restaurant. Also, it's on the same street as all those indian restaurants, in case you change your mind. The most classic dish is called 'tagine'. That's what I tried.

I was shoked to see some of the negative reviews here: I've been In Zerza 5 times since it's openning a few months ago, and I haven't experienced ANY of the problems mentioned in the negative reveiws. The food is excellent, the atmosphere is very nice and relaxing, with some really good Maroccan/Arabic music, the owner is a very nice person, and really makes you feel welcome. It's a great place and does have a very special touch. I am definetely coming back for more. Cheers!

"Who would ever thought that we would found such restaurant on 6th street" was my wife and my impression when we visited Zerza last night. We enjoyed the romantic setting upstairs, and the food was just excellent. The chicken with their spicy sauce was just amazing..we will go back everytime we come back to New York.

My wife and I have eaten here a bunch of times, and we think it is fantastic. The food is top-notch (Moroccan cigars, briouats, fish tagine, kefta tagine, zaaluk, pissaladiere, you name it!), the service is spectacular and the owner, Radouane Eljaouhari, and his wife are such incredibly nice people. In New York, it is rare to find restaurant owners who take such a personal interest in making sure that their establishment is providing superior food, service and atmosphere. In fact, we just had a Moroccan-themed party, and Zerza catered the party for us. Everyone LOVED the food, and our party was a tremendous success!

Can't wait to go back to Zerza!!!

The atmosphere is charming, the waitstaff polite, and the food is tremendous. I got the chicken tagine, delicious. Also, don't leave without trying their famous soup--it is amazing! It goes from empty to line out the door in instants though, so get here early!"

I am from Morocco, I have been to every Restaurant that claims they specialize in Moroccan cuisine, in NYC. Like everyone else, I read about Zerza somewhere, so I decided to go. I was VERY PLEASED with what I found. Finally a restaurant that serves MOroccan food as supposed to be served. The taste, the presentation..everything was excellent. I give a lot of credit to the people behind this restaurant...I can't wait to go back.

Pros: Best Moroccan in NYC, Atmosphere, Service

Cons: crowded on Week-ends

Eric Asimov of the NY times loved it, and thanks to his article we discovered this new Moroccan restaurant...we ordered man of their small tapas style appetizers, (I especially liked the Zalok, a puree of eggplants and garlic), and the pissaladiere, the caramalized onion tart. We had a good time, we will go back again, and again...

Pros: Food, wines from North Afri, cozy and romantic

Cons: crowded

Went with a large group -- waited half an hour for menus and an hour for drinks. The service was so bad it was almost funny. The food was not great -- everyhing basically tasted like it was drowned in the same sickly sweet sauce. The eventual 4 hour dinner was not surprising considering that the kitchen is smaller than the kitchen in my one bedroom apartment. The owner was very nice but tried to serve as bartender, waiter, and chef with disasterous results.

I've been here many times and it has always been wonderful. The food is delicious, reasonably priced, and the service is very friendly. This is a place where you can eat authentic Moroccan home cooking. Zerza is lively, and a meal here is a real bargain compared to so many other restaurants. Don't pay attention to some of the reviewers who tried to undermine this restaurant. I think some people just like to complain!!! To me a place that made me go back at least 6 times in 3 weeks, and had the (New York Times, and the Daily News write wonderful articles about them, is place that must be doing things right. (Avoid Saturdays if you don't like to wait for a table)

we came from Florida to visit some family over the week-end. We were told about Zerza from the nice folks at the Waldorf (where we were staying). It end up a nice small restaurant with good service and great food. We will go back each time we come to New York.
