We tried to make a reservation for Sat and were told it was a walk-in, we don't take any reservations. So we showed up early around 6:30 to go here for dinner and was told there was a 30-45minute wait, but nobody is waiting ahead of us.

A table opens up and we ask him if we can take the table, he says no you have to wait 45minutes. We ask him why, and the host says well there are people on the list ahead of you and i'm going to give them a few minutes, we ask him how many more minutes? He says 5minutes. 20 minutes pass and the table is still free sitting there by itself. A couple seats open up at the bar and he asks us whether he wants us those instead. We tell him we want the table and give the bar to the people who are not here, and he says no I'm not going to do that even though it has been 30 minutes he has been saving the table for someone who is not there. He actually started shouting "do you want the bar or not?" in a completely inappropriate manner.

It turns out that the host was actually calling his buddies to save the table for them, while they took their leisurely time, and making paying customers who were right then and there wait. I was a frequent customer here but never going to come here after this, they don't deserve any business with the cronyism shown by this this guy.

Management should re-evaulate the types of people they hire over here.

I have been to Barrio Chino a few times and never had a real problem with the late and few is ok and reasonable. Nothing special. Went there on a Monday night and was told a 30 minutes. After an hour was told "another 30". After complaining to Joe was not given an apology and was told "too bad" Will never go back.

This tiny little LES staple is my favorite Mexican place in NYC. Sure, its crowded, and you always have to wait for a table; i saw Sofia Coppola and her entourage turned away because the place was so full. But give your cell # to the friendly bar staff and head across the street to Little Giant for a warm up cocktail. The freshly prepared sangrita served with your Cazadores is worth the wait.

Pros: perfectly poured margaritas & amazing tilapia tacos

Crazy... i've been asked to wait an hour on a Monday night for a table at this place, and I would have done it if i didn't have to get up early for work. That's how good the drinks are- the jalapeno grapefruit margaritas are my favorite. The food is consistently good, and the atmosphere is always cozy and fun.

Went with a few friends for a low key weekend night. Knew the wait would be long, but persevered and whiled away at near by happy hours. Once seated, the staff were accommodating, courteous and efficient for the bustling pace & small space. Drinks were served quickly despite the crowd. The food and coconut mojitos were delicious! Also sampled a few of the magarita flavours and were not disappointed. Overall had a great night, recommended!

Drink: Coconut Mojitos
Eat: Bistek Torta
Sit by the bar and let Amy serve you!
And you will walk out of there with a full tummy and a big grin on your face (after drinking alot of Mojitos and having Amy serve them) :)

Its hard to understand how a waiter that is sitting on a table flirting at all the girls (by the way he is gay) could still be working there for two years, and everyone still keep loving him and loving him and loving him. personally, i do not understand. If the problem is waiting in line for an hour, everyone does it, so does you fern... whatever! Barrio Chino is the best place ever, to eat, drink, have an amazing night and stare at cute waiters (Santana)..

I've always liked this place and I bring all my friends here. The Habanero Margaritas are AMAZING and the food is "deliciosa". But last time I was a little concerned about the service -- I don't want my favorite restaurant go to hell just because of one waiter.
We as customers know that you have to wait for an hour that's fine, but when you finally get your table, it's very annoying to see the only waiter (Santana) sitting on the tables and hitting on all the female customers while your drinks are on the bar and your food is nowhere to be found. This is not a review, it is more a call to the Barrio Chino management.

The food is very good. Service is surprisingly attentive. Price is reasonable ~$40/person for drinks and a few appetizers and an entre. Dark Rum Mojito is phenomenal (so is the light rum).

i love this place. the food is excellent but the coconut mojitos make me want to die - but in a good way. unfortunately, there usually is a long wait, and the space is a little cramped, but that's the lower east side for you. definately recommended.

Okay, so it's not the cheapest place around, but it's the mostest-bestest place to get your sweet drink on and eat. Maybe I just love anything with rum in it, but it gives me the courage to get into the tequila once in a while - but only after I get some of the fish tacos in me to hold it down. (So I'm a bit of a sissy when it comes to tequila, big deal, I had an experience in West Virginia once.) Don't make faces either if you've never had a fish taco, those are good enough to get your sober friends to come back with you for a second visit.

I love the enchiladas (both mole and verde), the drinks (grapefruit maragarita is the best! ever!), and the staff (they're all cool and really know their tequilas!) but why are you so far away? and always packed? can't you give a girl a break? oh, and i forgot, i love the churros too.

This place is great, and even though the portions are small it is still the tastiest 'mexican' food you'll find around. If you're into spicy items, try their habanero or jalepeno martinis, they're excellent! Their shrimp dishes are delicious! Get there before 7 or 8 PM and you won't have to wait so long.

The food is amazing. True the portions are small but so good I don't mind ordering double. The enchiladas verde were sensational, love the sauce and the cheese. The tacos although itsy bitsy were delicous bite size treats. The real draw back for us was the super loud atmosphere. We came at dinner time and the volume was so loud we couldn't compete reducing our conversation a bare minimum. I wouldn't eat in the resteraunt again but I plan to do take out if they have it.

I was really excited about this place and would be a regular here if the prices were about $1- $2 cheaper on each item. great food & drinks, but too pricey for the portions you get. unfortunately, won't be coming back for that reason.

Found Barrio Chino by accident...no sign out front, but the menu posted outside looked good. Atmosphere is great...relaxed and comfortable. The food was fantastic...the tacos are some of the best I've had but way too small and too pricey - 3 bit sized ones that cost $7. Tortas sandwichs are incredible and a value at $7.50 (plus greens). $8 margarita was tasty but too small. Loved the guacamole and chips. Nice selection of Mexican beers including hard to find Pacifico Cerveza.

The food here is very good. Everything seems to be made with fresh ingredients and is well prepared. We loved the fish tacos, the steak tacos and the poblano stuffed with roast pork and fruit. The guacamole was a tad bland, but it was nothing that a splash of great salsa couldn't fix. The grilled calamari salad was also tasty, but the calamari was a touch on the tough side. Overall, I would recommend the food here and woul return for more.
I was disapointed with the drinks. I tried a mojito, which was stingy on the mint and too sour. And I tried a margarita on the rocks, which was also too sour. My friend had to return her margarita and ask for a splash of simple syrup. I don't like it when these drinks are made too sweet, but sour is not good either.

I absolutely recommend the Jalapeno Infused Martini- an incredible drink. Also, the food is extremely tasty and great value. The steak is prepared brilliantly.

Finally, try the Habanero Grapefruit Margarita. Very Spicy but the contrasting flavors blend well.
