The tapas are decent, but you'd go here more for the scene. Young people, cocktails flowing. The Sangria is very weak so I wouldn't waste your time on this.

I love this place!! Everytime I come here I have the best time with my friends. It's such a great place to unwind and let loose! I was here for New Years last year and got my tickets through JoonBug and they hooked it up!! I'm definitely coming back again this New Years and getting tickets from JoonBug again!

I came here for a late dinner one Saturday night and was happily satisfied with the quality of the food and service. We ordered the Chopped Romaine Salad , salad was also very fresh and we had the Prime New York Shell Steak, it was cooked well.

We closed out the restaurant and never felt rushed to leave. A very relaxing evening overall filled with good food.I would recomend to anyone.

Way too cool hostess! So cool she directs a door and earns tops $6.60 an hour. I am so envious of how cool she is and how cool of a party she dictates. Cheers to no future. 143 xoxo

went around midnight last night (two ruggedly handsome guys, no girls), and granted it was pretty crowded outside, the bouncer (~6'4", heavy-set, AA) had no problem letting us in for $20 each. it was pretty packed inside, but the guy: girl ratio was 3:1 (not surprising), and the busted girl: cute girl ratio was roughly 4:1. i would have rather taken that $20 and balled out at the mcdonald's down the street.

this place is great..the food is very good and surprisingly not overpriced for manhattan standards, the waitresses and bartenders are really hot and really friendly and the dj's are always great. fun chill place for afterwork drinks, dinner with a group, and late night dancing...will be back often and highly recommend it!

since I live around the corner, barna is often at least a consideration. The straw that broke the camel's back though was when on my birthday (last sept) myself and a few girls/guys walked up around 9pm and there was no - read it, zero- line, not even anyone loitering outside smoking. We were told that to get in we'd probably have to get bottles since it was going to be so packed. Being a lazy/full from dinner (and generally well-monied) group, we sucked it up and figured for a bday we'd get at least 2 bottles of goose/etc (which is a guaranteed $700 for zero effort for them). The lady at the door went inside, came back 5 minutes later and told us that she wouldn't be able to get us in. The sheer confusion at their audacity - remember there wasn't ANYONE there, quite literally - was just mind-f&cking-boggling! I've been treated sh!tty at places all over the city but this was just like WTF, are you f'ing serious???? Suffice to say I have not been to barna since, although I've been convinced by friends who go there once a month or two that the talent/eye candy there is pretty impressive, and slightly (marginally) less pretentious than @ the 'hot' places in the meat packing/chelsea/soho/etc.

The food was awful. Over priced. Bad service (maybe my server was new?). We ordered tapas, and I tried a little bit of everything. It was all bland and nothing special. I could have done better myself. It was as though they added garlic and butter to everything to make it taste OK. Definitely a good place to go with a lot of people. Certainly a good place to go if you are just going to get drunk at dinner and not remember your meal. This is my first review on citysearch, and I felt compelled to give a piece of my mind about Barna.

Even if you're there for a party, you must still wait in line, despite friends inside who say it's not crowded. The men at the door are dorky and rude. The crowd is NOT good looking by any means. These lines are not worth the wait!

Was invited for a birthday party over at Barna last week. Good thing we've arrived a little earlier, had our dinner in a nice and relaxing atmosphere, because later place was literally packed. Food was great though, we've ordered few tapas and shared it among us - loved every single piece I've had, so did my friends. Drinks were not very pricey(let's face it we're in NEW ORK!), plus they have those Blueberry kamikazi shots... As for me, Barna has it all - $exy decor, tasty food, decent crowd, and HoTT STAFF! Deffinately coming back, surprised to find out that it's been out for a while and I've never been there before.

I would highly suggest this place! The restaurant has great Tapas & Sangria. The crowd is very good on Thursday, Friday & Saturday Nights. I think the rooftop is the best in the city! :)

This place ROCKS!!! My favorite bar in Manhattan. Food is great, the staff is hot and friendly. Probably the nicest doorstaff in the city. The music is very mixed, great 80's and 90's tracks to the most current songs from all genres. The weekends get crowded but get there before 11 to avoid a line. Unfortunately the secret is out!!! See you at Barna!!!!

The place itself is very nice, and like a lot of other reviewers I was there for a birthday party. However, the bouncers seemed to think they were working the door of some club in the meatpacking district. Literally everyone in line was there for a party (I think there were 4 or 5 that night) - NO ONE was just coming in randomly, and yet the bouncers still felt the need to give people a hard time about girl-guy ratios. At one point there was no one in line except for two guys and one girl who were all together (I was outside on the phone) and he would not let them in. Shortly after, three guys came together, also for a party, and the bouncer said they weren't getting in unless they paid him. One of the guys gave him a $20 (personally I would have turned right around) and he threw it back in his face, laughing and telling him he had to do better than that. I've been to a lot of NYC bars/clubs so I know how it works, but this is NOT the place where stuff like this needs to be going. I would discourage anyone who is thinking about having a party there to choose that place. It's really a shame, because once inside it's fun little place. The bouncers probably turn off a lot of people who would otherwise likely really enjoy the place, and bring it a lot of business. Besides, isn't it the guys who buy all the drinks anyway?

Went to Barna last night with a group of friends for a birthday. We went to the bar downstairs, although I understand there's a rooftop bar as well. The music is loud, very loud, but they play great music. People dressed in everything from sneakers and tshirts to suits and elegant summer dresses. There are hipsters talking to models talking to out-of-towners, which makes for a great experience overall, as everyone is approachable and having a good time. Drinks are a little pricey ($15 for a glass of wine!), but the beer is relative to Manhattan prices ($6 Heineken). It was crowded, but not packed, which was even better. Not a pretentious hotel bar like some others I've been to (Whiskey Blue and the rooftop bar at the Gansevoort stand out). I recommend it.

A friend and i went to the roof on a Thursday night. The red wine sangria is bitter (first truly bad sangria I've had in NY) while the strawberry margarita is tequila with strawberry syrup. Drinks run $10-$14 and they are bad! Dishes are pretty good - albondigas, crab stuffed peppers, shrimp. If you're just going for drinks and tapas, expect to pay $50 per person. Overall, it's not worth the value.

This place is very nice. It has a very chill atmosphere, good drinks, good service, good food. Nice place to come to for a light snack with some drinks or just to hang out at the bar or outside on their roof. The only HUGE negative I have about them is if you to their for dinner, you'll spend a fortune before you get satisfied. The portions are very small and this isnt the kind of place you can go and take a bunch of tapas to share between a few people...even the entrees while great tasting were very small...It felt as if we went to a Spanish restaurant owned by the French, which were imposing their size portions. The two of us dropped almost 200 for a dinner with 2 drinks each after which we were still hungry...Other then that, nice place.

While I was there, three different people confronted the bartender, asking if there was any Vodka in their drinks. I paid for 3 Grey Goose w/ splash tonic ($11 each) and left without even the slightest buzz. Same with three of my friends, and five other strangers. Crowded, overpriced, watered down meat market. Don't even bother, waste your time or money. Signed, a fellow new yorker and drinker

Went to Barna on a weekday night to catch up with an old friend. From the maitre'd to our waiter, the service was friendly and impressively responsive. And the atmosphere: impeccable. Intimate and romantic to say the least. And then there was the food! We sampled at least eight tapas plates and enjoyed nearly every one of them. After our reasonably priced meal (for a trendy Manhattan restaurant) we headed up to the roof for drinks. It sports both an indoor and outdoor section, so if your schtick is champagne on the sofa or martinis under the sky, Barna's got you covered. Will definitely return.

A group of 5 friends and I went to Barna for dinner for my 30th birthday this past Monday (August 22, 2005). We received bad service and several of our orders were wrong, missing an ingredient, or missing altogether. Perhaps it was because the 20% tip was already added to the bill, but the waiter brought us plain gazpacho without any of the other ingredients described on the menu; later, when we complained, he brought us saucers of garnish instead of new bowls of the soup properly prepared. Then, he managed to mix up a sauteed spinach order with a spinach salad, and at the end of the meal, we realized that he had completely forgotten to bring a side of french fries that we had ordered at the beginning of the meal.

I don't think there was anything new and exciting about this place. The food was below average, the service equally so, and the sangria doesn't compare to the other Spanish restaurants that are in the area. Definitely wasn't worth the trip the first time, highly doubt I'll go back.

I was there last Tuesday with a few friends around 9pm. Super cool space, much hipper then anything on Park ave. in that neighborhood and a great staff including some very attractive bartenders matched with a beautiful crowd.

We hung out by the bar mostly to ourselves, not an overwelming social crowd, but there were some georgous groups of hipsters looking like it was their meeting up before going out to the clubs (a few of the girls looked like top models), but the vibe was real chill.

My one friend ordered some tappas at the bar -- I had a bite of the octupus which was great and he said they were all good, but I will have to taste for myself before I make my formal decision.

Overall, great new spot they may turn into one of my favorate hangouts.

We attended a going away party for a friend at this place. The decor is great, the service is good, but the food sucks. The have a fairly limited menu, and I opted for the sea bass. It is hard to go wrong with sea bass, but somehow the chef managed to screw it up, it was completely tasteless. Besides that the food is priced in the medium ot high range. That said, I wouldn't go to Barna for dinner, but it is not a bad place to get a drink. In all fairness however, the place has only been open a short while - maybe the cook needs to find his zone.
